Between ‘77 and ‘79 I played the tri-state area with a band called “Night watch”, and Phoebe Snow, who lived in Teaneck New Jersey hired us to back her up. We played quite a few times, and I also went out on the town with her and her sister to see George Benson at Avery Fisher Hall in NYC. We ended up at JP‘s club, and jammed till 5am with John Belushi of all people, who happened to be there. We went back a second time to hang out and jam. That time, Ray Kennedy (He wrote sale on sailor with Brian Wilson) was headlining. I still have a cassette of it given to me by the club. I was playing acoustic piano, & the house band backed us up. We also played Teaneck high school where she was an alumni. We also played a place called Trax in NYC that was kind of a secret spot known only to musicians and the cast of Saturday night live etc. Personally, she totally blew my mind as a singer. She was hands-down the best vocalist I’ve ever worked with or heard in my life. Her records don’t really capture her talent like her live performances do. She left us way to soon. I’ll never forget her, and the honor of working with her. Rest in peace Phoebe.🎹🤘🎶🎤🌷🌷🌷🙏🙏 Sincerely, Kincaid Miller
Tragically, Phoebe Snow WAS overlooked, and in too many disturbing ways to name---yet, her brilliance lay in her unique vocal talents that presented an almost 'pleading' sound in her beautifully synthesized range whenever she sang everything to perfection! And, no matter what I was doing when I would hear one of Phoebe's signature songs, then all work and distraction ceased, and came to a grinding halt---to present day observance! Alas, you were called away from this earthly coil far, far too soon, my dearest Phoebe Snow, as I send you healing love, peace and comfort forevermore---may you rest in eternal peace...
Richard Iritano She has created memories in my life forever, as my mother played her music all the time especially on Saturdays when we would clean the home together. My mother has also passed on, so her music holds dear to my heart.
What a lovely way to clean house, as mother and child bond to some of the greatest music worldwide. That's why I thank my lucky stars that both of my parents are alive and well-they are the very best persons whom I have ever known. May your beloved mother rest in peace...I am deeply sorry for your loss, friend. She sounds like a lovely, caring person, she does.
I had the incredible pleasure of meeting Phoebe and she was as lovely and genuine as you would imagine. Wonderful person and great artist. Forever missed. 💖🌹
I saw Phoebe twice. In 1977 I was living in a small college town in TN. A friend said there were free tickets for this outdoor concert. I knew she sang "Poetry Man", but was in college in another small town from when she made that big hit until the spring of 1977 when I finished college. So, I went to this live concert outside in early fall. She was wonderful and I found music I might never have found on my own. About a year later I was back in Florida (home) working and she came to a concert hall near me so I saw her again. I feel truly blessed to have seen her live .two times! There is no one else with her talent and her way of being.
SHE truly belongs in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Listen to her duet with Dave Mason called Dreams I Dream. She had COMPLETE command of a LARGE VOICE. Extremely UNIQUE vocalist, male or female. Remarkable talent besieged with tragedy. Love her.
There will never be another like Phoebe Snow - voice from the Angels above. And the unforgettable one & only Larry DeBari on guitar - they are both truly missed - may they both R.I.P.
We love and miss you soooo much, Phoebe!! Thank you for giving of your unique gifts to us all and giving us something to hold on to, while you watch over us all. I started listening to you when I was a little girl and never regretted it. There will never be another Phoebe Snow!
This is so utterly brilliant. What a singer, what a voice, what songwriter. Her talent was immense and this performance is a magnificent testament. Thank you vSpirit2 for getting it up here. Long live the memory of Phoebe, one of the greatest singers I've ever heard.
Phoebe was a friend of my mom, she used to come to our house when we lived in Santa Cruz. I was only 4 or 5 so I don't really remember much. I wish I could though. She was a beautiful human.
Christ all mighty what a very very special voice she had!!!!! There will never be another Phoebe Snow! Gone too soon but left us with sooooo much! RIP Phoebe!!! Love you baby!!!
this woman can do anything she wants with her voice she's got range control complete rhythm style creativity distinction when I say to you this woman can sang I mean this woman can sang God blessed you for because you're singing in the great great choir now
I would have loved to see Phoebe in concert. Her voice is so mesmerizing, and she is the best singer I have ever heard....but I am a huge fan.Love her. RIP Phoebe.
Will never forget hearing “Poetry Man” for the first time while In Vermont. Still one of my favorite songs. Saw her in concert in Miami many moons ago. She passed soon after.
I drove down from Phoenix to see her in Santa Barbara in 2009 not too long after this concert.....I'm glad I did. Our Phoebe died two years later. Apparently it was time for her to sleep tight with her little sweetheart daughter. I still miss her.
Ms. Snow is showcased in very fine voice indeed. Unfortunately, I didn't discover the Brilliance that is Phoebe Snow , until the "Something Real" album. But I ate up everything she'd done prior. So sad to have lost her...
i listen at least oncea week. and yes she is one of the best female guitar players iknow. could you imagine what shed be doing today. also a great song writer. i love her as a person and a musician .phoebe you and your daughter rest in peace!
Brings back my Los Angeles life in the early 70's…never fell out of love with this wonderful artist. Still have all her recordings…still listen to her at least once a week. Brainwashed my kid with her music for years…just wonderful to see video on her. A real gift this lady. Such big talent. Miss her but have the music and now the video's...
There are artists who are so versatile that record companies don't know what to do with them- what category should they be in? What market should they be sold to?, etc. Those artists have to work extra hard to maintain their careers by fighting for their spot at their record company, and usually end up being overlooked and discarded. So those artists must then put out their own music in some form. Especially female artists, who rose to fame in the 70's and 80's. Many names come to mind- Jennifer Warnes, Teena Marie, Chaka Khan, Melissa Manchester, Jean Carne, Karla DeVito, and of course, the wonderful Phoebe Snow. What Phoebe possessed was the ability to make the listener feel that she was singing to them. That is a rare trait and few have that ability to connect with the listener. Many of these artists not only wrote their own music, but played an instrument. They were real singers- no auto-tune for them, and they actually SANG their songs in concert. Unlike "singers" of today who continue to lip-sync to backing tracks in concert and somehow, manage to win awards for their "concert performance"- yes Jennifer Lopez and Madonna, I'm talking about you. When you think about how lucky some artists were, like Linda Ronstadt, who took so many risks, and ventured into so many musical styles that kept her career going for so long, you wonder why other record companies didn't work with their artists to try the same thing. An artist like Teena Marie, who should have been right up there with the likes of Streisand, never got that acceptance that she should have. You cannot listen to her wide range of songwriting styles and that incredibly strong versatile voice, and say she didn't deserve it. These days record companies do not invest in their artists, they think of a 2 or 3 album deal and move onto the next "pop" singer. Another example is Sheena Easton- she started off promising, then was quickly given a ridiculous makeover as some kind of 'sex queen' and that didn't last long and neither did her career. But what she could have been, with the right guidance and top-notch material, is an artist who would still be selling today. And don't get me started on how Epic Records let slip thru their hands a powerhouse vocalist that could have went on to acheive great success for them- that artist is Karla DeVito. After her stunning debut album, Epic shelved her 2nd album and even though she eventually got another album put out, the momentum was gone by then. She lost out to Madonna for the Evita role, and had she gotten that role, perhaps she would still be recording today. Many of the artists I mentioned above have passed away and some never got the respect or the proper representation they deserved. But it is what it is, and at least with singers like Phoebe Snow and Jennifer Warnes, we have a decent catalog of material to listen to of when they were in the prime of their careers.
I'll tell you that Christina Aguilara is one of those very talented artist who got overlooked/mis-managed. The first time I saw her on tour with TLC, I could not believe what I was hearing and how she was under marketed. She is a trained vocalist and can scat. I was so disappointed that the music industry treated her like she needed to be marketed as a sex object and not for her exceptional vocal abilities.
Now, you did it, 'thebeastlacey'---you've got my eyes all welled up and ready to cascade away in doleful streams of missing this great, essential and irrepleaceable talent of rich, cosmic portent! Now, why'd ya have to do it to me?
if is not enough pleasure to listen to a most beautiful voice...to then read the most thoughtful comments on UA-cam can bring on the tears......twice!!! r.i.p.Phoebe
Phoebe Snow, Laura Nyro, Carole King -- Incredible female musical talents. I'd have a lot less to appreciate musically if it wasn't for the likes of these. What a magnificent era for music! 8/2018
I have been listening to those incredible talents since I was probably 5 years old, with Laura Nyro being the first one. I still play the album Eli And The Thirteenth Confession to this day.
Phoebe really touched lots of people down here in my hometown of New Orleans and greatly when I was down through out the south beaches from Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and down to Key Biscayne and Key West. I only wish Phoebe Snow could have Glorified the Lord with the anointing of the of the Holy Ghost filled singers and musicians who are the best in the country. However Phoebe maybe blessing the King of kings as of now like no other can. Phoebe Snow. We miss you very much. Luv. Daniel Bear.
THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST SINGERS ALIVE...LOVED HER WAY BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL...THE SIXTIES...SOME SONGS STILL BRING NATURAL TEARS TO MY EYES..NO ONE ELSE HAS HAD HER STYLE SINCE... I dedicate this whole albumto Emma Jo Lee Love...RIP...Boy, did we have fun around Phobe Snow"s albums
I think of my mom when I hear her. When she played her albums in the house, she was in a good mood, and there'd be a happy feel in the air. Nice memories.
Thank you for all your poetry Phoebe. I love every song you sang and I know you are keeping the angels entertained, my only wish is that we could have kept you a little longer. Let the good times roll girl.
She was so giving her all after what she had been through. I've adored her since the 1970s.
A fabulous performance by a fabulous singer. What a loss to the musical world.
ALWAYS LOVED PHOEBE.🎉Awesomeness-Sincerely Uniquely Beautiful + Powerful💥Thankyou Phoebe.. from Aotearoa New Zealand 2024

Do you have any favorite live performance song by Phoebe Snow? I'm gathering songs for the D.J. for my high school's 50th anniversary ❤💕
Just discovered this, I'm insanely jealous. I agree 100% about her vocal skills, I would have loved to have been in that back up band.
I wish I could listen to the cassette.
Love Honor and Respect to Her❤
Awesome experiences with Phoebe Snow! Thanks for the recollection and telling this to us. ❤ ❤❤❤
I'm back again . I love this great lady. She was one of the greats.
She was an irreplaceable gem that can NEVER be duplicated. Voice on loan from God.
Phoebe Snow was a major talent and gave up her career to take care of her severely disabled daughter. Her voice is so soulful and unique!
Unlike Neil Young: he dumped both of his handicapped kids in a institution: granted he pays for their maintenance, but still....
She's one of the top talents of our lifetime. Always an inspirational person in every aspect of life. Joy & peace be with her through eternity.
Magnifico!!!!! RIP dear!!! Who's still listening until the end of time? Be safe everybody!!! ❤🙂👍👏
SHE BRINGS ME TO TEARS BECAUSE SHE WAS SO OVERLOOKED. HER GIFT WAS INCREDIBLE!!!

Her voice could silence church bells! I miss Ms. Snow every day, as nothing will ever be the same again...

Nobody ever mentions her guitar playing, but she was great.
She was what I call the example of true talent. I was a young little girl and now grown and listen to her with my children.
she was a great fan of jimi hendrix

Pheobe Snow had a voice that will knock you out of your chair. Hypnotizing, Mesmerizing voice.
She had a magical voice. Took you away to special places.
