I have a Lexus GS300 SE-L. 2006 car and it's fantastic in every way. Silent, comfortable, reliable and very fast! It also returns 43mpg on a motorway at 75mph in cruise and between 21 and 29mpg around town. (UK figures) I will not be changing my car for a very long time. Since I've owned it, I've changed the oil and filter every 3,000 miles, using fully synthetic oil only. Apart from that I've only spent a total of £500 on the car, including tyres; making it the cheapest to run car I've ever owned. You're right about the door hinges, I solved the issue with a light spray of WD40 - no more problems. These are arguably the best mid-size saloons in the world in my opinion
That’s pretty much exactly the same mileage I get on mine, 43mpg on a motorway, 22+ in town in traffic. Lovely car, still at least 120k of mileage left in the engine, probably a lot more
These hold higher resale value than all of its German rivals for a very good reason. They're made to last unlike their high tech complicated German counterparts. My parents prefer Mercedes if I do get one but they don't know that this is not their W123 W124 luxury tanks these are high tech fragile luxury phones. If I want a Luxury that lasts,Lexus is the only option.
@@SacreDro I've got the gs300. Carbon buildup is not a big issue. Get a carbon cleaning every 80k miles or 5 years. Not a big deal. I did it and car drives perfect. Great gas milage too. 28 mpg avg for me. So the money I paid for carbon buildup I get back in gas due to direct injection efficiency
Just the video I was hoping for. I already have a 2010 Lexus GS 300 but this video is very informative and now I know more about the car and what to expect in the future. Thanks bro, keep up the good work!
Marcin MK5 I got the car with 129k km. I've only had the car for about a month and ~3k km so I can't really say. But it's a Lexus/Toyota so I think it's safe to assume that nothing will go wrong for a very long time as long as scheduled maintenance is done.
G I live in South Africa where we don't have the GS 350 or GS 430/460 just the GS 300 and GS 450h. The GS 300 model was continued in South Africa until 2011.
Its a really nice car actually, and for the time being when it came out the equipment was really ahead of competitors. I had one before and it hade, cooled and heated seat, back up camera, touchscreen for multimedia etc, softclose, rear heated seats and of course the other thing he mentioned in the video. For 2007 model year thats prettyr nice! Only downside was the engine noice though.... It was a 450h so it hade the CVT transmission which locks the rpm in some wierd way and changes gears ther after which made a really boring noice, but it was pretty fast though.
Great review never seen one with cloth seats before. Main issues; TPMS, a real pain in the arse, sensors expensive from Lexus, I am in the UK, things may be difference in other countries The cooled seats have the cooling power of an asthmatic mouse Check the exhaust at the 'y' joints Lexus exhaust very expensive. Check for wheel corrosion, every Lexus I have has this issue Good points Very good economy for 3.0 v6 can do 38mpg on motorway Very quiet and refined Fully loaded as standard, keyless, electric seats, blinds, xenon, heated seats, dual zone climate etc Very reliable
Thanks for the video. I plan on getting one in the upcoming weeks. I commute daily for work. I wanted the V6, but not sure. Not to picky on gas, but don't want to just blow $$$ if I don't need to.
It seems the 2006 has transmission issues that them from a solenoid and computer management of the transmission. The computers surface mount components solder develop micro fracture over years from cooling and heating cycles. These micro fractures cause varying resistance and in turn the signal is compromised. You will notice harder shifting as it progresses. the 2006 gs300 I own is on it's second transmission. There is also a high pressure fuel regulator that goes out and can cost a lot more than it should. The dealerships will try to replace the entire fuel rail. Given the older age of a typical gs experiencing these issues. It'll more than likely break the brittle plastic of the injector when they remove them from the fuel rail. At $400 a pop, cost can go up quick. They will also try to sell you a new fuel rail. If you go online and dig around for more information. There is a service manual that details the proper procedure. It entails removing just the high pressure fuel sensor and machining the fuel rail on the car to seat the sensor better. The computer that causes the transmission issues can be sent of for repair found online. They will refurbish it and send it back. I'd suggest that if anyone start to notice the transmission doing this behavior.

To be honest, all cars break down eventually and 160,000 miles is a big mileage for a car. I live in UK where cars depreciate really fast. I paid 4000 pounds for my car with 70000 miles on it (I guess the current value for the car is a little over 3000 pounds). I do not drive it as much as you do. If my car develop a serious problem I might just buy another car as it may not be economical to get it fixed.
Thanks a lot for your GS300 and GLK350 review. But from your review I don't know which one is more reliable, people usually think Lexus is far more trouble free than Benz, but from your list they seem to be same level, this might be a point you can clarify or improve.
I would love to have one but I’m quite concerned about the boot (trunk 😅). A bit small for à family of 4.. My second choice will be the RX 400H for this reason!.. Anyone who experiences both?

Hello I have a 2007 gs 350 and just 1 day ago I pushed the start button and it shut off and wouldn't crank I tryed 2 other times and finally it cranked what could possibly be going on?
Don't worry about it. This ticking sound you referring to is due to direct injection system. You can also have ticking/knocking sound (louder) if you use lower than 96 octane petrol. Everything I'm saying here is described in owners manual. So use premium petrol (I use 98 octane) and keep a regular maintenance and you will have a very reliable car. Good luck.

Hi DCR... great video! I am about to buy a low mileage GS 350 from 2013. Have the issues you mentioned in this video been addressed in the newer model? My only real concern is the adaptive variable suspension (middle east version). Please advise.
Awesome job dude, appreciate it a lot. What about the RX Lexus, I am looking at 2010 one mostly the air suspension parts and the battery pack for the Hybrid one, if it goes out how much does it cost. :)
I want to buy the hybrid version but I don't know what to look for. Very hard for a non mechanic to understand in which state it is before one buys it. It has 215.000km so I am scared that the battery pack will fail soon.
I'm planning to purchase one. i have a question for Gs300 owners. how bad is fuel consumption on this car? i heard it's pretty bad and will cost quiet a lot of money on fuel.
Gas consumption isn't terrible for a V6. The car calls for premium fuel though as well. If saving money on gas is an issue, I wouldn't go with a Lexus (6 cylinders and premium fuel)
I would say fuel consumption is reasonable for a v6. I get 18l/100km city (aggressive driving), and about 9.5l on highway when driving about 120-130 km/h (occasional acceleration to 170km/h when overtaking). You can reduce fuel consumption up to 12-13l in city if you drive it gently. Also I noticed that when outside temperature is low it get much higher consumption compared to when it's warm. Also remember this v6 requires premium petrol no less than 96octane, we don't have 96 petrol i our country so I use 98 octane premium gasoline. Also make sure you do a full inspection before you buy one, because you never know how previous owner maintained it. If it has a full service history you can actually buy a high mileage one. These engines live to 500k+ km if maintained regularly. Also make sure automatic transmission fluid had been changed at least every 90k km.
Lol are we talking about Lexus or what, i heard they are the most reliable cars but watching this video I dont know what to think about them anymore !!!!!!!!!

My car(2008 gs 350) has 168k miles on it and just got a timing chain cover leak repaired. Price is 3k$ to repair that as they have to take the engine out.
Thank you for sharing your experience lol. Really learning of this common/uncommon issue that does happen with the 2GR-FE and 2GR-FSE engines.. How is the car now? Was looking for a GS300 or a GS450h and one has the carbon buildup issue, the other the battery which may fail.

Marcin MK5 I got the car with 129k km. I've only had the car for about a month and ~3k km so I can't really say. But it's a Lexus/Toyota so I think it's safe to assume that nothing will go wrong for a very long time as long as scheduled maintenance is done.

Best used car reviewer on UA-cam, useful information and entertaining
Seems like a great used buy, very attractive car!
It was a 450h so it hade the CVT transmission which locks the rpm in some wierd way and changes gears ther after which made a really boring noice, but it was pretty fast though.
is it a bad idea to buy a 2009 450h with 280,000 kms? what should I look out for?
Great review never seen one with cloth seats before. Main issues;
TPMS, a real pain in the arse, sensors expensive from Lexus, I am in the UK, things may be difference in other countries
The cooled seats have the cooling power of an asthmatic mouse
Check the exhaust at the 'y' joints Lexus exhaust very expensive.
Check for wheel corrosion, every Lexus I have has this issue
Good points
Very good economy for 3.0 v6 can do 38mpg on motorway
Very quiet and refined
Fully loaded as standard, keyless, electric seats, blinds, xenon, heated seats, dual zone climate etc
Very reliable
Have you owned or have a detailed opinion for the GS450h model?
Thanks.
@@SacreDro I have not experienced the GS450h only the GS300. I found the GS450h boot too small for a family so decided against the purchase

Damn, I found a 06 gs300 for a good deal, 7k with 89,000 miles, but looking at this makes me think about passing on it, I honestly want a gs350 because it’s faster and more reliable

Purchased car with 60,000 from Sewell Lexus in Dallas where all maintenance has been done. 2 payments left and I own her.

Good luck.
That's variable valve timing for you, "ticking"

I used to get 20 mpg in town and up to 38 mpg on a steady motorway cruise, will 500 miles per tank
