Still have the car, if so how many miles now and how has it been holding up? I’m looking at one now that’s the same year and with a few more thousand miles for about $8k
I was at the dealer ready to by a GS350 when the salesperson came up to me and said the car just went up $2000. I asked him why. He said Scotty just did a review on it. Lol
Love your videos Scotty and thank you for everything. Having been with Lexus since 1998 and the GS 400, I can tell you, nothing beat the V-8. Yes it's more money to service and I agree with you 100%. However, no 6 can even come close to the fun of the V 8. I love Lexus so much, I named my dog after car lol. Again, thank you for everything Scotty.
LOL how is your dog Lexus hehe 😜. But for real, I got an LS460 and that 380HP V8 reminds me of the LFA. Obviously doesn’t compare but it sounds quietly glorious. The GS400 is also a beast of a car. What’s the 0-100 on that?
I’ve got a 2010 Lexus GS350 all wheel drive that I bought used in 2017 and it has been a dream since I bought it. Not one ☝️ problem with it since I purchased it. I bought it with 81,000 mi on it and I have about 115,000 miles on it now with no issues whatsoever. It’s also a tank in the snow with the all wheel drive. It’s my wife’s car and she gets compliments all the time on it and she loves it. They are definitely overbuilt and built completely well. Lexus thought of everything building this car and it is so much fun to drive and very quick! I will be keeping it till the wheels fall off !
@@Landcruiser252 if you can find all wheel drive I would jump on it if you live in a snow area. It is so good in the snow and runs like a tank. When we got it the salesman said an attorney owned it and got it for his wife who was afraid to drive in the snow.
@@Landcruiser252 I think the original sticker price when it was initially bought in 2010 when it was new was $59k. We could never afford a new one but this was definitely worth the money used when I bought it back in ‘17
I was going to mention this as well. Costly over the life of a vehicle. But it doesn't matter whether its a belt or a chain. Belts wear, chains stretch, they can both snap. The important thing is what happens when it does break. If the engine is an interference engine it will mess up all the valves and timing and wreck the motor. (VW, Mitsu, Acura, Honda, and plenty more companies do this) The alternative is a free running engine which allows the belt or chain to break but not interfere with the engine. What I don't know is what the technical gain is for either configuration. There must be a reason why companies choose to do this one way or another.
@@juancastillo5078 chains last a lot longer than belts. A lot of manufacturers have gone away from belts (I'm thinking of you Honda) for the superior method of Chains.
I LOVE this generation GS. The design is very smooth/round and it has a sloping rear roof before all the Germans cars had it. The interiors on these still are really good love the gauges.
Love my 2008 is350. They truly do last long with minimal maintenance. Though mine is modified, I'm confident it will last for a long time. Still planning to get a isf though. Love that V8 scotty!
omg I love the GS350. i drove a 2016 F-Sport model and it had great handling and it’s 311hp 2GR-FSE is powerful. honestly the best looking one is the 2013-2015 model

I bought a 2008 Lexus GS350 with 240k miles on it from the original owner two years ago. I have daily driven it and it now has 265k miles with not one single issue. Scotty is right , this is a wonderful car!!
Thank you for this, I’m currently looking at one the same year model with about 179k miles for around $8k and have been wondering if there were any people out there still daily driving them with over 200k. How long did it end up lasting you?
I have the generation before this one. It’s a 2005 GS300, the last year of the 2JZ chassis, and a 2001 IS300 (mechanically the same car, but shortened). By far the simplest and most spacious engine bay I’ve worked on. Most of the work I do is preventative, I love these cars.
Hey do you know if the 2006 has the 2JZ chasis? I bought a 2006 gs300 thinking it had the 2JZ motor but I was bummed to find out it wasn't. Obviously the GR motors are fine.
@@cqntialstarco no, the 2006 GS/IS are designed after the GRS crown platform. Although it’s not a JZ motor, that 3.0 GR engine in your GS300 is special in that it was only offered for a short time in the states in only the GS. It’s also pretty cool that it comes from the Crown if you’re into JDM stuff like me.
I had that same particular Lexus GS model same red color, the rear calipers are notorious for getting seized up, but its overall bulletproof when it comes to reliability.
I currently own a 2006 gs300 which I daily and it's an amazing car. I'm on Lexus number 13 (have 3 in my driveway at the moment) and the only issue to watch out for is the 2006 model year with the 3 liter engine had a serious issue with oil consumption. Besides that these are bulletproof cars. Even the awd models are virtually problem free. Great video!
Infiniti G35 MT. 240,000 miles. Excellent condition. No repairs. Only normal maintenance and consumables. Older Infiniti s match Lexus durability at 250 k miles. 96 Maxima MT made 230km with only clutch when sold.
I have that exact car in that year and color. Sometimes some ahole tries to race me it always amazes me how effortlessly I smoke them without trying. Most regular cars can’t keep up at all. The car is much faster than it looks and is very luxurious at the same time.
just bought a one owner GS with 189k. Changed all the fluids, did an engine flush, and put 19" rims and tires. Black with tan interior. It's an zmmaculate, quiet, luxury hwy cruiser with great gas mileage. Absolutely love it.
I had a 1999 GS 300 and put 200,000 on it with only a belt replacement and minor suspension work as it aged. I loved the car and had people fighting over it when I parked it with a for sale sign.
Finally someone else who likes the cars too. Scotty. I work on Mercedes as a mobile mechanic. Mercedes are the biggest overstated piles of crap on the planet. I always get customers asking me what kind of car should they buy when they’re tired of spending $500 every month in Mercedes repairs. For years I e steered the. To Lexus with the V6 engine and especially the GS 350. The maintenance is pretty Low and they don’t have the serviceable timing belt like most Lexus do….they have a timing chain that never gives any trouble. Although I specialize in Mercedes I have quite a few Lexus that I service once my customers get out of Mercedes and into Lexus. I actually like working in Lexus but I will say a lot of their factory parts are expensive as hell but the staple service item parts are pretty reasonable in the aftermarket. I deal with a lot of dealerships with wholesale accounts but Lexus dealerships suck donkey balls when it comes to getting a wholesale account. They don’t even want to talk to you if you’re not spending $100-k a year with them. Screw that man…..greedy bastards. Their loss cause I just get stuff online cheaper anyways but it’s just nice to have a relationship with a dealership at times but Lexus acts like they’re too good for the small mechanic.
Greetings from Sydney Australia Scotty. I recently got my late father's 1999 GS300 with the straight 6 cylinder 3.0 litre engine. He'd bought it before retiring as a 3 year old car and enjoyed many years of touring with my mum. I never could appreciate Lexus but now can. Loving your content mate !
We recently purchased the fourth generation model and we are still amazed how the car rides and handles. When you put it in Sport mode, it's like the car literally transforms into a V8 with the nice sound that comes from the exhaust. Nice review Scotty!
I have the 2007 GS 450h version. Garage kept. Has the electric motor. Very reliable. Only issue I’ve ever had which comes with certainty when owning any hybrid model vehicle is the dreaded hybrid battery replacement but the original one got exactly ten years out of it. $2300 aftermarket with unlimited mile 5-yr warranty and I’m pushing about 345hp. Best vehicle I have ever owned for reliability, performance, and beauty.
I bought a 2008 GS-350 AWD in April 2019. I wanted the AWD because I like to be able to drive when there is snow on the ground. The AWD version comes with the V6 engine that Scotty praises and it has the same 6 speed automatic transmission. I've heard that the AWD system is very strong and reliable. I can understand why Scotty would avoid the AWD; he probably does not see too much snow in Houston. I bought this one with just 65,000 miles on it and it drives like a dream. I get over 30 mpg on the highway. I must admit, I drive it very cautiously; I usually accelerate very gradually. Indeed, sometimes when I am taking a corner while going down a slight hill, it seems like I am coasting (I never had that sensation my less powerful automatic transmission cars). I miss my standard transmission Audi (which I just saw today; had a nice talk with its owner), but this AWD Lexus is great. And, as far as I can tell, it drives like a RWD car; it's AWD system puts most of the power to the rear wheels in normal driving. I hope to drive it for at least 10 years or more and get it up to 200K miles.
can you update me on your experience with the car? I am kinda falling in love with this thing and it's on my wishlist for cars around/under €10k (I'm also trying to convince my mom to sell her Audi A5 2.0tfsi sportback and get one of these with the hybrid system) 😅
@@moazdaza2044 Hi Moaz. I had a 1999 Audi A4 that I loved. I sold it to a friend when I was leaving the country for 3 years; he refused to sell it back which is why I bought the Lexus. It has been very reliable. It’s AWD would be better (I think) if I had better tires on it…I eventually will have a set of summer tires and winter tires. Service is pretty easy to get; it mostly uses Toyota parts. I paid $1500 to have the transmission fluid changed (a big deal since this car has a sealed transmission; Scotty has a video on this). I was able to check the service history for this car because Lexus maintains an owner’s website that tracks service performed by Lexus service centers. However, I have a local shop do most of the service. Okay, here are the annoying things with the car: 1. The A/C and heat controls do not have physical buttons/dial for the fan speed; you have to access it using the touch screen. Oy vey! That was almost a deal breaker. But the AUTO setting for environment is extremely good so you rarely need to make manual adjustments. 2. The map/directions system is antiquated and hard to use. I am considering having a module added that will allow me to use the navigation (and other apps) from my phone via Bluetooth. 3. A lot of the features of the car can (and probably should) be adjusted by software. You have to go to the dealer to get that done. I bought a cable and I downloaded the software (without a license) that supposedly can let you make those changes…but you need a Windows 98 computer (which I have). But the system is hit or miss. I managed to get it to connect once; I changed the settings so that the seat/steering wheel do not swing out of the way every time I turn off the engine. I also changed it so that the doors do not automatically unlock when I turn off the engine. 4. The rear view mirror was a mess. I got a replacement that is slightly better. I advise buying a replacement mirror. New ones are expensive. It might make better sense to buy a used one and if it is in bad shape (there are streaks where the silvering is fading), send it to be refurbished. That costs about $100. Then you pay the Lexus dealer $100 or so to install it. 5. The perforated leather seats are rather fragile. It does not take much to get a tear. That happened to my back seat when I put some heavy boxes in there while moving. I get leather conditioner to try and keep it supple…but it is a challenge. At some point, I may have to spend a couple of hundred $$ to get the leather repaired. These are all minor things. There probably are some more. Overall, if you take care of the car, it will probably give you a long life of service. I intend to keep mine for at least 10 years.
@@itsoundzgood I have to do a fill up right as I start on on a highway only trip. I set the cruise control for 65 mph (or sometimes 55 mph...the lower the speed, the better the mileage) and I fuel up as I am exiting the freeway. If I only track freeway miles at a steady speed, I can get over 30 mpg. Depending on which road I am on and which direction I am heading (say from Columbus, OH to Cleveland...where there is a several hundred foot drop in mean distance above sea level) I can actually get as high as 34 mpg.
I live in the south so I've lucked out the past few seasons. It's decently weighted so I'd image it would perform ok. Not as good as the AWD version of course.

Sold my red 06 GS300 with 196k miles in Feb. Car was super reliable. Over the 6 years that I owned it, all it ever needed was a fuel pump (my fault, let the fuel get to E before filling up for ~2 years) and an AC pump. So glad I watched this. Scotty - you helped me decide to buy a Lexus when I was car shopping for myself and now I am looking at a 2009 GS350 for my daughter. Love my GS350 RWD, burnouts and tires are cheap! Plus a luxury machine most the time, automatic sunshade, great stereo, comfortable seats. 2007 146k miles
I love this generation 3rd Gen GS. I WILL get one, but it's gonna be the GS460. 4.6L V8. It's not expensive to maintain at all. I already have a 2008 LS460 in the same red color with the same 4.6 V8. Oh and yes the aluminum strips are losing paint on my LS too!
The Lexus 3gs are great vehicles. I have the 2006 GS430 with the 3uzfe V8 engine. I love the torque! These cars are way ahead of its time! And the reliability is amazing!
Keep an eye on the cv joint rubber seal then🤣 they tend to brake when they are 10years plus... And you start losing grease from cv join it might brake... 😉
had a 2006 GS430, what a car it was. Same color as the one in the video. Only complaints i have was the Amp died so no more sound, Tire pressure monitors were not cooperating, the AFS light system was glitching in one of my headlights.
my daily is a slammed 03 is300 with 230k miles, rides better than most of the newer cars I get in my shop . its not a bandwagon deal, these cars are amazing as long as you show some love.

Also Scotty, no timing belt! The 3.5 V6 uses a chain.
@@juancastillo5078 I'd think that a belt-driven valve train would be a cheaper manufacturing cost for carmaker.
@@juancastillo5078 chains last a lot longer than belts. A lot of manufacturers have gone away from belts (I'm thinking of you Honda) for the superior method of Chains.

The maintenance is pretty
Low and they don’t have the serviceable timing belt like most Lexus do….they have a timing chain that never gives any trouble.

I am kinda falling in love with this thing and it's on my wishlist for cars around/under €10k
(I'm also trying to convince my mom to sell her Audi A5 2.0tfsi sportback and get one of these with the hybrid system) 😅
Okay, here are the annoying things with the car:
How are you getting 30 on the highway?? I usually average about 27mpg highway with my 2008 350 awd
