Mitch L I love wreck it ralph, but its more about the idea of video games and not a specific real one. And something tells me the assassins creed movie will not turn out good.
It pissed me off that reviewers were panning Ratchet & Clank as well. It's REALLY not a bad movie. Rotten Tomatoes also gave it 1% less than Pixels. It's just like any other kids film. It's negatives were that the jokes were a little predictable. They'd say the joke and then show the punchline essentially. ex. "what could go wrong?" *something goes wrong* That kinda stuff. Other than that the movie had a lot of little references that made it a treat to watch. And as a general kids film it's good. pacing, actors, etc.
They honestly should have just went with a full on CGI movie. Then there wouldn't be any limitations on the human side of things. We wouldn't have the same acting and miscast problems.
Nah, we're YEARS (19) from Thrall being relevant aside for off-handed mentions of Blackmoore's pet orc. They've still got to do the 2nd war and Beyond the Dark Portal, THEN they finally work on Thrall's story.
The everyone is a main character thing doesn't really work for a movie because there simply isn't enough screen time to focus on and develop all of them. It can work quite well in a tv show format like in "Baccano!" however.
That was great, you could usually tell him by both his axe and his hair. Then Kargath was standing next to him when Gul'dan was angry. Sadly, you didn't get a full view of the bladefist, only the ropes around his arm

In my humble opinion, and whether it is a valid "excuse" for this movie being somewhat bland and a little rushed in the development department, is because I think Warcraft 1 lore is barebones and kind of bland and crappy anyway. I got the feeling throughout this entire film that this is essentially an attempt at setting up for the "good parts" to come in future films. Thrall founding Durotar, the Battle for Mount Hyjal, Arthas's fall and rise into the Lich King, and much more is where Warcraft really got enjoyable in the story department, and even a lot of more recent lore created for the expansions of World of Warcraft as well. The fact is the First War was conceived in 1994 by a bunch of rocker dad's drawing orcs in a classroom in Cali, and it was generic and bland then making come off as exactly that when reconstructed for a new audience. Like it or hate it, it's worth seeing, simply because the expectations for the future sequels of this film will be worth it and because as far as video game movies go, this is easily in the top tier.
Also over 40 minutes of footage was cut and could explain a lot of the random jumps to random locations without exposition or development. I think Activision had their hands a little too deep into this one and fudged it.

I largely share your views on the movie, with one thing to note. I actually really liked how the humans armour and weapons looked like the came straight out of a video game rather than using actual functional medieval arms. I thought that really helped set the tone of the movie and added to the atmosphere nicely. But yeah, overall, just an okay experience.

As a Warcraft fan had no issues with the movie as a whole, not even the actors. They felt, natural, to me. With the exception of Garona, who falls precicely in that hole that Blizzard has of being horrible with writing strong women.
Sylvanas is a mental wreck and written right now as nothing more then an eventual raid boss. But they likely force in another 'redemption'. Nova I will agree. Kerrigan, for fucks sake, that was such a horrible story in SC2. But for WoW, most other female characters get sidelined or royally demoted to 'damsel in distress'. I was glad a few strong females did show up in WoD to hopefully mean a turn of the tide, but with Metzen in charge still, doubt it will go far.
I liked Lothar's performance, although yeah him trying to cover up that accent was very noticeable.. I think the actor's Australian or something. Never noticed it in Vikings, but yeah when he's surrounded by british people it's hard to not notice.
Spoilers! - Garrona actually is half human half orc. When Medivh was talking to her and said he was seeking a place to fit in and and met a woman who accepted him. He was talking about over in Draenor, where he met a orc woman. He was Garrona's father.
Correct! And confirmed in the novelization of the movie. The movie canon wanted her to be half-human like the original canon for the games, before she was retconned into being half draenei.
Jared this was a wonderfully done review. Your thoroughness and insights really make it for me and I honestly miss this aspect of your videos. Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you for putting up this review, ProJared. Also, really nice touch with all the Warcraft II music you threw into the background. That really made the video for me.
I would love that. I do think that it will be dependent on what state the cut footage is in. I believe Duncan Jones said there is at least 40 more minutes of footage that was cut. He also said that there was footage that would have to be polished up to match the quality of what is in the film. I would love to see some more of the Draenai for instance.
3:20 That's actually what I was thinking for most of it. Whenever it cut to the humans, I couldn't wait for it to cut back to the orcs because they were more interesting and looked cooler. Also, is that Heroes of the Storm music playing in the background or was the originally from another game? Unfortunately, I never really got to play any Warcraft games so I wouldn't really know.
I totally agree! He hasn't really had any other big projects other than being Ragnar and it's kind of ingrained in him. I feel like he was cast because they needed a character like Ragnar in a film spending most of it's budget on CG. He's an actor who plays a specific type of character rather than offering variety, and that's OK. He fits here just like he'd probably fit in any other action-heavy film or series.
Haven't seen it yet, mostly because the parts they picked for the trailer didn't have what I'd call the best "acting". But its nice to hear that it's "ok"
Garona, Jared. Not Ganora ;) About Lothar, the actor's name is Travis Fimmel, and I agree with you on his accent. I think he's Australian. I could still hear Ragnar Lothbrok in him, which sort of put me off a bit as well.
They didn't go away, he's currently in the process of both moving across the US and attending various events, so we probably won't see much of him until the dust settles.
Anduin Lothar is played by Travis Fimmel, an Australian -- but also, he's been playing Ragnar Lothbrok on VIKINGS for years now and I could really hear his norse-ish accent in Warcraft. Ragnar and Anduin are somewhat similar in attitude and character as well, so some of the Viking's accent may have bled into Anduin Lothar.
Man, i played Warcraft 3 was well. I loved the campaign and the story. Good music as well. Undeads and humans kicked ass. Since I was young, I was super sad when Arthas became evil. I will never forget that...
Hey ProJared, The actor who plays Lothar is Travis Fimmel and is best known for his lead role in Viking, Ragnar Lothbrok. If I had to guess as to why his in the film i'm sure it was to get the attention of Vikings fan bases. I highly recommend you check out Viking to see the best of Travis Fimmels acting. If you are that curious about him that is. Anyways, love the review thanks for the hard work and keeping it spoiler free!
its interesting to here your opinion on the "everyone is a main character" thing because i loved that the focus was split on both sides with a human and orc villain/hero on both sides of the story.
Btw, main human actor you're referring to is called Travis Fimmel. I believe he is Australian but with quite a diverse ancestry and is the main lead in Vikings, a pretty great show that I'd recommend. He is pretty good as a rather stoic viking there, but I am not sure if that carried over too well into his portrayal of Lothar here. Am going to see the movie later today.
I dunno...he is the last of the bloodline of Strom (who are the descendants of the "malformed" Vrykul) (and seriously...are you going to try and say that Thorias Trollbane (Lothar's cousin that he abdicated the throne of Stromgarde to) isn't a Viking!? Holy crap he looks completely out of place at the Table of Kings during the 2nd War during the alliance war meeting, since everyone else has this more Medieval Europe thing going on and then there's Thorias...who'd you could easily mistake for a large leather clad Dwarf).
So basically your pros are: - CGI looks good - Warcraft Lore is handled well - It's not offensive if you're a fan of the Warcraft Universe - There are plenty of well done nods to the fans/fanservice Which means that, if you're NOT FAMILIAR WITH WARCRAFT, the pros are: - CGI looks good That's it. One good thing about the movie. And you're wondering why the critics are so harsh on it?
I've never played Warcraft but I enjoyed the movie. The story was a bit messy at first but by the end everything was fluid to me. A fun movie that had a pretty unique story. Not a great film but certainly better than a lot of films being released year after year in theaters.
The CGI wasn't "good", it was fucking spectacular, so good that the human actors were made less realistic for their existance. The feat of being a technical marvel alone warrants it recieving greater scores then what it got; but I'll keep it reasonable, it was a really solid action movie, marred by poor pacing and a lack of direction. Like a cart load of movies that have received greater scores before it. It's really easy to hate on it, but it could have been substantially worse. It could have been Pixels...
I am not familiar with warcraft, but I enjoyed the movie more than any other in recent memory. I personally enjoyed not being bombarded with information, and having to observe and learn while I watched. I do agree that it should have been all cgi, and that pube stash mage guy was not pleasant. He had Smosh Movie level of acting.
My history with Warcraft: Played the shit out of the RTS games, especially 2 but I had a blast with 1 at the time. Played WoW from pretty much two months before Burning Crusade, off and on until near the end of Draenor. Big fan of the lore and overall setting, and I'm one of those people who whine bitch and moan for WC4 even though I know it won't happen until WoW runs out of established characters to serve as loot pinatas. Even then, WoW 2 is still more likely given their stance that StarCraft is their RTS focus for the foreseeable future. For the Horde! My thoughts on the movie: Storywise it was all over the place and would have been much better off as a three parter for what it was trying to explore. Some scenes felt interrupted and then abruptly resumed a few moments later, though none stood out to me as "pointless". Some could certainly have used more explanation, some left me a little confused, but none of it felt like fluff. Actionwise I liked the fights. I think there could have been more duels between commanders and other one-on-one fights being highlighted during battle scenes, but the combat felt true to the games in that it focused more on the overall ebb and flow rather than Poor Schmuck #237. The ceremonial fights held by the Orcs were fun to watch, too. Lorewise it was nice to see it expanded upon where it needed to be. Like why the Humans stood pretty much alone during the First War, why certain characters did the things they did, and the relationships between various characters was fun to watch too. Going into the movie knowing the lore of the series I pretty much knew which character was going to do what, but they changed events enough that I found myself second-guessing my assumptions. I also nearly shat my pants when I heard the Murloc gurgle. Overall, a decent movie. I almost think of it like a chick flick but for Warcraft nerds; it knows its target audience and targets the everlasting shit out of it, but the people who drag friends and loved ones to see it with them (i.e., not the target audience) will get just enough eye candy to make it feel like not a complete waste of an evening even if it's not something they would actively seek to watch themselves.
I haven't read the comics, I just find their movies dull and predictable. The Netflix Daredevil show, though... now that's quite the different story. :)
Marvel just found a formula that works at making movies, till all the people starts to get bored to death of the same things over and over they will not change a bit, sadly most viewers are conformists so it will take a while to see some innovations.
I know you didn't enjoy the fight scenes all that much, but I really loved how they sold viewers on the sheer power of the orcs. That one semi-jumpscare orc ambush where they strike the human soldier in the head with their hammer and that massive bang resounds... man, that was impressive on the big screen.
most people that bash this movie is ppl that thought it was gonna be about WoW. I've seen countless ppl (prb young) that complain that the "new" strategy games don't follow WoW lore...so funnyXD
Agreed with the son of Lothar point (I don't remember his name either). But, I just wanted to point out that he's introduced way earlier than where he is injured. Also, Durotan's final confrontation was awesome, come on :(
There is basically no potential Fish out of Water in the early Warcraft Story. Thrall and Arthas could be pretty good ones in later movies. If you want an excuse for Garona: She was the translater for the Orcs on Draenor (for the draenei) and spoke rather simple sentences after first meeting the humans.
There was a scene when the main wizard is going to request a meeting with the guardian the guys son was transporting that wizard too so the sun had about 30 secs of screen time before the scene you mentioned
Something i just noticed after my second viewing is that the pacing doesnt seem as bad the second time around. First time i saw it i also thought the pacing was quite jarring. For some reason the second time around somehow i felt i cought a lot more of what was happening in each scene.
Travis Fimmel who played Lothgar basically played it as a little more subdued Ragnar from Vikings (another one of his characters) I think it's a part of him as an actor, one of those personality ticks people have that bleed over into every character they play like Johnny Depp or RDJ
I might still see it. My problem is that the movie took way WAY too long to come out after it was announced way back in the day and I had outgrown World of Warcraft completely by the time the movie came out. I might buy the dvd from the bargain bin at work just to finally see it.
Okay, I gotta know. What on earth is that beautiful, bop-it-looking, red and green staff of awesome sitting in front of Chrono Trigger back there? I've seen in for a long while and have no idea what it is.
I was at the pre-premiere screening, and the entire cinema was BOOKED.I'm not joking when 100% of the audience laughed for a solid minute at that single murloc.
The guy who plays lothar , is from a tv series named vikings, where he plays a caracther named ragnar, what happened is that he just acted as ragnar 100% of the time playing lothar, he didn't changed he's acting on both caracthers, thats why it felt out of place
It was faithful to the game and was mega homage to the fans. Oh and its clearly building for warcraft sequals. Good job warcraft you didnt do a Batman vs Superman.
Anduin's accent is passable only because he's not native to Stormwind, at least not in the original lore. I don't know if they changed it, but he's from Arathor, which I always imagined to have a kind of Scottish / Irish culture. Since they're also speaking Common, not English, they really could have gotten away with _any_ English accent, because it would just be written off as different Common dialects.
I didn't know any of the characters' names. I knew their faces but not their names. When Kadgar was in the scenes it stopped feeling like a movie and more of a high production LARP. It wasn't the best movie that could have been made but it felt like they wanted to inject a bit of Warcraft 2 into it and I think that hurt it.
I would also enjoy seeing more Khadgar on Warcraft 2, also 2 full length parts. Part1: Tides of Darkness, Part2: Beyond the Dark Portal (Expansion Set WC2)
As someone with very limited knowledge of the Warcraft franchise I found the story confusing (too many characters, didn't understand what everyone's motivation was, etc) but visually it was very well done. The only movie lately I'd compare it to is Scott Pilgrim vs. World.
Watching this with headphones is the best, because it makes it easy to hear that sweet, sweet Warcraft II OST. Seriously, that Nostalgia is just so amazing X)
the actor who plays Lothar also plays Ragnar in Vikings....he plays the same character in the movie as he does in Vikings. I don't think he played the part well...don't think he's really a good actor anyways, but I did like the movie regardless.
Saw it last night. My mom is a huge fan of the game, has been for many years. I never got into it myself, but went to see it with her to support her and her excitement over it got me excited. I'd say it was really good, not great, but I enjoyed it. Actors weren't good, as you said, some of the dialogue was strange, I laughed out loud a couple of times because what they were saying was so ridiculous. But I did feel for the characters, which is rare for me, battle scenes were exciting, maybe not memorable, but I remember them being quite exciting. I'd definitely watch this again. And for my mom, the avid WoW player, she was ecstatic, she loved it, and that was the best part for me.
I was hoping this movie would succeed and break world records. You know why? *NOT* because I care about the Warcraft universe AT ALL, but because I want this to succeed so that Blizzard is encouraged to make a *DIABLO 2 FULL CGI MOVIE* using the same graphics as D3's cinematics. MAN you don't know how much I'M DYING to see them make a D2 CGI movie. :(
I didn't really have any problems with Lothar, probably because I've seen the guy in Viking's and he's very similar with his acting there. I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie to be honest, I thought it was fun and I hope for more! I found his son weird too, but only because he wasn't a good actor in my opinion, I didn't have any trouble believing they were father and son though, I think they both look old/young enough to be what they should.
I'd have figured making a Warcraft movie would be like making a D&D movie. There's so much lore and emergent storytelling that you could make up new characters entirely, and as long as all the appropriate lore elements were set in stone, people would accept it as Warframe canon. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about getting all the characters ever to squeeze into one two-hour movie. You can focus on just a couple and have a smoother story to tell.
My thoughts on the Warcraft movie! Let me know what you thought of it or your expectations too! Zug-zug!
Do one minuet reviews again please and thank you.
Fuck me dad
What happened to your 2015 E3 analysis videos?
I might see this now!
i like the new hair!
Well if it isn't complete shit that means we have a new best video game movie.
Unless you count Reck-it-Ralph, you're right. Let's hope Assasin's Creed will take that title.
I dont think the prince of persia movie was complete shit?
Mitch L I love wreck it ralph, but its more about the idea of video games and not a specific real one. And something tells me the assassins creed movie will not turn out good.
incrediblejonas The only thing I remember about that one is being very bored.
The first Pokemon movie wasn't complete shit

+pejnismiggle Maybe it's because they use a lot of the same cutscenes from the video game?
Well no, the game uses cutscenes from the movie. Remember, the game is based on the movie, which is based on the original game.
The orc arc was easily an 8/10
The human arc was so bad I was just waiting for them to end. I wish the movie was all about the orcs
They honestly should have just went with a full on CGI movie. Then there wouldn't be any limitations on the human side of things. We wouldn't have the same acting and miscast problems.
"Not a trainwreck" is actually way better than I'd ever hoped.
I can't wait for the sequel Warcraft 2 : It's all Ogre now
Yah, I can see cho'gall heads fighting each other.
It's not ogre yet
Nah, we're YEARS (19) from Thrall being relevant aside for off-handed mentions of Blackmoore's pet orc.
They've still got to do the 2nd war and Beyond the Dark Portal, THEN they finally work on Thrall's story.
Sean Green They need to make a long series.
They should have filmed the same movie from two points of view and released the Orc and Human version at the same time.
This reminds me of what happened to Hotel Transylvania 2. That film wasn't awful, but the critics bashed it.
What? Why did critix bash it?
Patrick Froysland It's probably because its an Adam Sandler film.
Kole The Otaku Oh...
Well, people should not be so closed-minded about those types of things.
+Patrick Froysland Because it's a movie with Adam Sandler that's geared towards kids
wowy zowy Did you just---
Wow, the internet has finally reached a new low.
They did the opposite of The Hobbit, which was split into 3 movies with no real need, The Warcraft was 3 movies crammed into one movie.
Lothar basically plays his character in Vikings. It works in Vikings, but it just doesn't work for the commander of a large army.
Cannot agree more!
The everyone is a main character thing doesn't really work for a movie because there simply isn't enough screen time to focus on and develop all of them. It can work quite well in a tv show format like in "Baccano!" however.
No one else noticed Grom Hellscream in the background Gromming about?
That was great, you could usually tell him by both his axe and his hair. Then Kargath was standing next to him when Gul'dan was angry. Sadly, you didn't get a full view of the bladefist, only the ropes around his arm
I think I saw his blade at one point...maybe I remember wrong, but I thought I did.
you can see his fist when the stormwind gate closes
Bioshroom fuck, Now I'll have to go watch it again
I DID!! and Khagar Bladefist!
What!? The actor who played Lothar was Ragnor from Vikings... hes a fantastic actor IMO, and I loved him being Lothar in the movie.
*Warcraft Movie Easter Eggs*
- A murloc appears
- There are wanted Kobold and Hogger posters

but man attempting to make a full feature film out of the second and third war, that's tough.
***** it's not bad, it's just jarring to see a scene of CGI orcs, and the cuts to human actors.
best trollpost ever. The CGI is the best we have so far. Did you watch the movie drunk ? Or are your cinemas just outdated (projector etc.) ?
so what. so many movies have aged, just look at the bond movies, even those aged heavily.
When you see the movie again look for Grom Hellscream, he is fighting in most of the battles, but had no speaking lines.
I wonder if they built an all new model for Grom? I mean they could have easily lifted the model from Warlords of Draenor's cinematic and touched it up a bit. :)

yeah me too
Oh god 5 more days until e3
He was probably embarrassed by them to a certain extent. Or maybe not enough people were watching them.
ONLY 8 MORE DAYS UNTIL ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK!!!
lol wtf
I got pretty mad when Dalaran was already floating personally
If they ARE going to ever do a Warcraft 3 Portrayal they still better show Archimonde destroying Dalaran with that crazy sand castle magic seal thing.
They probably did that to really sell the whole 'magical kingdom of Dalaran' part.
Garona.
i cringed every time :/
Garona.

I'll give him a pass, since he barely remembered her to begin with.

Damn. I always liked those.
Lothar's mannerisms are from the actor. Ragnar, main protagonist of Vikings, does that all the time, and he's always played by Travis Fimmel.
As a Warcraft fan had no issues with the movie as a whole, not even the actors. They felt, natural, to me. With the exception of Garona, who falls precicely in that hole that Blizzard has of being horrible with writing strong women.
As in, they put them in, tell they are, then don't know how to make them act as such.
I take it you've never heard of Sarah Kerrigan, Nova, Sylvanas, or a host of other characters then
Sylvanas is a mental wreck and written right now as nothing more then an eventual raid boss. But they likely force in another 'redemption'. Nova I will agree. Jared this was a wonderfully done review. Your thoroughness and insights really make it for me and I honestly miss this aspect of your videos. Keep up the amazing work.
40 minutes cut content though, i wonder how the blue ray will be.
Thank you for putting up this review, ProJared.
Also, really nice touch with all the Warcraft II music you threw into the background. That really made the video for me.
i liked the movie. nice fantasy action..
( i never ever played any Warcraft Game)
I'm hoping the blue ray will have a least 1hr of extra stuff. seemed like this movie could have been twice as long. :)
"Work - work!" - random Orc from Warcraft 2.
3:20
That's actually what I was thinking for most of it.
Sounds like they basically got Travis Flimmel to do his Ragnar acting.
Anywho, he's Australian, but best known for playing a viking lol
I totally agree! He hasn't really had any other big projects other than being Ragnar and it's kind of ingrained in him. I feel like he was cast because they needed a character like Ragnar in a film spending most of it's budget on CG. He's an actor who plays a specific type of character rather than offering variety, and that's OK. He fits here just like he'd probably fit in any other action-heavy film or series.
I really liked Lothar in the movie..
Haven't seen it yet, mostly because the parts they picked for the trailer didn't have what I'd call the best "acting". But its nice to hear that it's "ok"
I also know a lot about the Warcraft lore. Here are the games I've played:
-Hearthstone.

I heard about some EMBARRASING negative reviews about this movie, like one comparing it to the mario bros movie
Seriously? I feel so sorry for their parents.
There was one I read that said, and I quote, "Imagine Battlefield Earth without the unintentional comedy."
there is no mario movie..... NONE!
+jjbarylski
Yes there is. I forgot the name but I remember it was set in modern day, and I also remember it sucked really bad.
+jjbarylski yeah there is
I LOVED THE MURLOC FANSERVICE
Garona, Jared. Not Ganora ;)
About Lothar, the actor's name is Travis Fimmel, and I agree with you on his accent. I think he's Australian. I could still hear Ragnar Lothbrok in him, which sort of put me off a bit as well.
man. i miss jared's reviews.
He's still making them...just not regilarly.
They didn't go away, he's currently in the process of both moving across the US and attending various events, so we probably won't see much of him until the dust settles.
+Guru Gamma You can see him every week if you follow Dice, Camera, Action!
Like that new haircut.
me too, looks real sharp, m8
True!
Was just about to say the same thing. Good lookin man.
Man, i played Warcraft 3 was well. I loved the campaign and the story. Good music as well. Undeads and humans kicked ass.
Since I was young, I was super sad when Arthas became evil. I will never forget that...
Oh, hey. You changed your hair style after all. It's nice.
More slicked back instead of sticking out the front and the sides are gone, similar but not the same.
I think he just got a haircut
what r u gay
Honestly Jared, that was a top notch Murloc impression, well done
I was frustrated that Khadgar wasn't turned into an old man.
omg ikr and medivh didn't get sliced up into bitties
Probably because Ben Schnetzer has a really pretty face. I mean, look at it, he's good-looking
Medivh still has to deliver a warning to Lordaeron and tell Thrall about his destiny. Then he can be axed proper.
+Chase P. That happens after
+Chase P. He gets resurrected
Hey ProJared,
The actor who plays Lothar is Travis Fimmel and is best known for his lead role in Viking, Ragnar Lothbrok.
I'm sorry.. but... Garona, not Ganora xD
its interesting to here your opinion on the "everyone is a main character" thing because i loved that the focus was split on both sides with a human and orc villain/hero on both sides of the story.
To be fair, in this video you look like you are about to cry as well
Btw, main human actor you're referring to is called Travis Fimmel.
His Lothar was playing a viking as a Stormwind champion, which is not what Lothar is.
Never played WoW. Tired of seeing the ad for this movie :I
its based on Warcraft, not WoW
+dimsumboy22 Its okay. Casuals will never understand. (this is a joke, before ppl rage.)
dimsumboy22 What's the difference? Lmao
+Chris A lot of the lore in the warcraft games happened before WoW. Thats the only difference as far as i can tell.
They are also two completely different genres: Warcraft (1 through 3) are RTS games, WoW is a MMORPG.
Damn, great job re-creating the set, Jared! I don't think I'd be able to tell the difference if I didn't know you had moved.
So basically your pros are:
- CGI looks good
- Warcraft Lore is handled well
- It's not offensive if you're a fan of the Warcraft Universe
- There are plenty of well done nods to the fans/fanservice
Which means that, if you're NOT FAMILIAR WITH WARCRAFT, the pros are:
- CGI looks good
That's it. One good thing about the movie. And you're wondering why the critics are so harsh on it?
GET THAT LOGIC OUTTA HERE, CRAZY MAN!
i would say the CGI looks amazing, the action was also good.
Hey Jared, the actor that plays Lothar plays the main character in the History Channel's Viking series and the guy I think is Scandinavian.
My history with Warcraft:
Played the shit out of the RTS games, especially 2 but I had a blast with 1 at the time.
My thoughts on the movie:
Storywise it was all over the place and would have been much better off as a three parter for what it was trying to explore.
I almost think of it like a chick flick but for Warcraft nerds; it knows its target audience and targets the everlasting shit out of it, but the people who drag friends and loved ones to see it with them (i.e., not the target audience) will get just enough eye candy to make it feel like not a complete waste of an evening even if it's not something they would actively seek to watch themselves.
as soon as i found out its not filmed entirely from a top down perspective my hopes and dreams were slightly dashed
Inoffensive but not really that good or memorable... so... like all of the current Marvel movies? #flameBait
basically a marvel movie except all actors are terrible.
Not really flame bait, anyone who's read the comics would agree with you.
Funny, Jared thought Civil War was pretty good.
I played through Lich King myself, and quit a month after Cataclysm came out. I'm guessing for the same reason. Cata changed the game too much?
Agreed with the son of Lothar point (I don't remember his name either).
But, I just wanted to point out that he's introduced way earlier than where he is injured.
Also, Durotan's final confrontation was awesome, come on :(
There is basically no potential Fish out of Water in the early Warcraft Story. Thrall and Arthas could be pretty good ones in later movies. If you want an excuse for Garona: She was the translater for the Orcs on Draenor (for the draenei) and spoke rather simple sentences after first meeting the humans.
Also it seemed like a lot of lines were spoken too softy or even mumbled, I had a hard time keeping up with the dialog at certain times.
The actor who played Lothar is from the Viking Series.
The actor who plays Lothar is the same dude who plays Ragnar in Vikings. It seems that he does the same performance in both roles.
Pretty easy to get into as a non-Warcraft fan, too. Didn't have much experience with Warcraft, besides playing some Hearthstone.
WarCraft just felt condensed. (For obvious reasons.) But yeah, it's like eating condensed soup without adding the water.
Okay, I gotta know. What on earth is that beautiful, bop-it-looking, red and green staff of awesome sitting in front of Chrono Trigger back there? I've seen in for a long while and have no idea what it is.
how much Orc-poking was there? And did any critters explode violently?
I was at the pre-premiere screening, and the entire cinema was BOOKED.I'm not joking when 100% of the audience laughed for a solid minute at that single murloc.
i really like projared's extended thoughts videos. just something super real about them haha
Okay, but the question is: Does it have Leeroy Jenkins?
The guy who plays lothar , is from a tv series named vikings, where he plays a caracther named ragnar, what happened is that he just acted as ragnar 100% of the time playing lothar, he didn't changed he's acting on both caracthers, thats why it felt out of place
yeah Jared, lothar's accent is from northern england, it sounds like either Scottland or Ireland
@projared , the lead male human is the lead from Vikings on History Channel
As a Warcraft fan I agree on most of your points but I still enjoyed the movie. If only they went the TV route than it would've beenn a master piece.
You can focus on just a couple and have a smoother story to tell.
ok, the beginning background music sounds SO familiar!! Can someone tell me what it is?? I def know it but its driving me crazy not remembering it
@ProJared Do you think the Warcraft movie is like James Cameron's Avatar? Cool effects, ok story, easily forgotten?
From what game is the song that plays in 0:00 to 3:30 from?
I know the song but I can't remeber the name of it D:
all the toys in the upper-left keeps tricking my eye into thinking it's an annotation.
Could you do a review for Assasins Creed when it comes out?
15:20 Your impression makes Lothar sound like a Khajiit. Which would have made this movie quite a bit better actually.
Travis Fimmel - he is australian but been
doing a few seasons on "VIKINGS" so accents mixed alot
