That 3rd gen styling is still undefeated. I had a 99 limited that I sold about 10 years ago and missed it ever since. I just picked up a 99 SR5 for 900 bucks. The frame was rusted so it wouldn’t pass inspection but luckily I knew I guy that fixed it for a few cases of beer. It’s got some bumps and bruises that I’ve been working on fixing but nothing too bad. Nothing beats the feeling of cruising around in these resilient little off-road machines!
This is the best 4Runner video, really great stuff! Happy I stumbled on this before heading to wrench on the Runner. Wire brush and penetrating oil time!
Last year we did an overland cross province tour from Vancouver, all the way North to Dawson in the Yukon, and back, in my 2019 4Runner TRD Off Road. I have also driven it from Vancouver to Halifax and back and it has never broken down on me, even once! It just keeps on driving lol. 4Runners are second only to the legendary Land Cruiser! My 4Runner has seen those trails many times lol
Love seeing the 3rd Gen and 5th Gen, both great looking rides (and all of those Toyotas at the end of that trail!). I totally agree with your comment re: the smaller size of the 3rd Gen - there are times when it is just a little easier to get through some tight spaces on trails. Beautiful scenery, as always.
Same feeling here. I owned my supercharged 99 4Runner for over 18 years and just can't see myself getting rid of it. Plenty of utility, easy to work on, relatively economical compare to my 200 series, and easy to drive on all trails. Every button, dial, 4WD, locker, heater, A/C, and window switches all still work to this day on original component. While I do enjoy the 200 series, I have to really watch the width and the weight on certain trails. It is 2000# heavier than the 3rd gen 4Runner empty... That said, my 3rd gen 4Runner is still my go to daily driver and off-road vehicle. My 200 series is more of a family overlander/remote camper.
Awesome vid Kelly! I brought you my early 5th gen a few weeks ago (grey with white hood)…didn’t realize you had a UA-cam channel too. Anyways thanks for the great service on my 4r, I’ll be coming back to your shop. Cheers!
Such a beautiful part of the country.. I just bought my first 3rd gen 4R ( i've had both 1st and 2nd gens in the past). You really see the size benefit compared to the 5th gen in your footage. I have a 3rd gen Tacoma as well and it looks huge going through that pit haha. thanks for posting..
Great video Kelly! I'm a new subscriber of yours and ive really been enjoying your videos! Editing is smooth, great taste in music for each of the clips, and your wife's camera skills are pretty dang good too! Keep up the good work, looking forward to watching more of your adventures!
Besides the advantages of the smaller size on the 3rd gen did you see any others big difference in ability (that could be attributed to the generations)?
Weight would probably be another. Cost way less being older of course. 5th gens are pretty sweet, so it hard to say it's better. Just different that's all. Hard to go wrong.
Im stuck between buying 3rd gen or 4 th gen.with V8... I really want 4th gen but my budget is for 3rd gen :D Is it worth to wait more and save for 4th gen or buy 3rd? What do you think guys? I want it for overlanding most of the time and sometimes not too hard offroad.
That v8 really isn't much of a v8.not really a lot more power than a 3.4L. 4th gens in general are a bit less sought-after so probably get a better price. 4th is slightly larger also if that matters. For me it's a 3rd or 5th gen if the budget is there..
Selling my '09 Tacoma DCLB 4x4. Too much of a show piece. I want a tougher vehicle with dings and scratches. Gladly gonna go back to a slow 3rd gen 4r. My '99 was awesome. Ran good over 303k
Good times!! Time to get back out for another trip🤗
Absolutely! Excited for spring and summer.

So true, just classics. The market is still strong for them.
Awesome video. Very well recorded. No annoying talking or music. Very cool stuff. Awesome rigs too.
The 2 best looking generations.
💯

Thank you. Yes it is for real.
Another great adventure and amazing scenery as always, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Brian.

Thank you. It reminds me of bigger isn't always better but we love all Toyota's.

Great video!! Love both trucks!🤙
Thank you
Love my 3rd GEN.
Oh yeah!

Thanks Sean. Yes of course, glad to help anytime.
Beautiful scenery. Awesome video. I'm finally starting to build my 99 up. It's been my daily for 10 years. Now it's time to have some fun with.
Oh yes, do it. Time to make it happen 🤟
How did you wait that long. I have had mine for less than a year and I am already modding it out
I’m building my ‘99 from ground up as well. It’s going to be fun! Beautiful country there!
Lucky, so hard to find a 99 4runner these days
Really nice video Kelly! Great music choices and good mixing. Bit of a pucker over that ledge!
Thank you. Ya that ledge definitely caught me off guard. Luckily nothing happened.
Nice rides! That place is gorgeous.
Great video! I'm missing BC so much right now. Wish I could move back
Thanks, we'll at least come for a visit and get your fix, lol.

Thats awesome. Ya definitely helps in the tight stuff. I want to try and squeeze my Tacoma through here one day, ahaha

Thanks for watching and subscribing. I'll be sure pass on the kind words to her.
Great video as always! :)
Thanks Brent
Wow. Awesome video man, would kill to know where that trail is 😆 good stuff 👍👍👍
Ill be honest. This isnt a big secret. Hmu on instagram, @kb_autotech_and_adventure
Lowkey underrated
You sound like Robert downing Jr…caught me off guard for a second lol. Love the footage!
I get that a lot in the comments lol.
very nice, I'm in BC.where is this trail?
In the Slyvester area. East side of Stave lake.
@@Beacon_Offroad ok thx, I saw the dead trees later & figured likely there
Great video, you should paint ur fenders and rear bumper black to match the front bumper would look so sexy
Thanks. 💯 on the trim. In the works, just have so many things going on. Been working on my Tacoma lately.
New to the channel, thanks for the video!
What is the name of this trail and where is it located?
Thank you
I see you have what looks like the Coastal Offroad bumper. What fog lights fit in there with a winch?
Correct, any typical cube light will fit.
@@Beacon_Offroad Ok thank you for the reply.

We’re you in 4lo or 4hi on those mud puddles when you got to the meet up
Great video and scenery. 4runner are really capable rigs. BTW, how come you removed the rear air deflector or spoiler?
Thanks Rich, definitely capable. Before I bought it the previous owner bump a tree and dented the hatch and broke the deflector.
Great video third Gen is beautiful. I Have a third gen myself looking for a front bumper. I like how low profile yours was what brand was yours?
Thanks man. I have a coastal offroad bumper.
It looks awesome and fun!! Is it harder to off-road with a stick shift vehicle?
Way easier if you know what you are doing
next time, let's get a 4th gen in the mix eh? ;)
That's a great idea.
hello junior speaking to you from la vega Dominican Republic a question I have 4runner 98 and when I use the 4x4 when I turn it wants to stop
Hi Junior, thats a tough one, I would need a bit more information.
3rd gen seems more agile and capable
Where are you from?
Basically, Vancouver, Canada.

Time for the Tank Trap bro 😅
Sure but your pulling me out

The Tacoma will get down too. Just need to build it up. But the 3rd gen is such a great platform.
Are rear lockers necesary for trails like this? I have a 5th gen but it's an SR5 and debating about if adding a rear locker is necessary.
I wouldn't say it "necessary" but it's very helpful when needed. It's one of those things, once you need it you wish you had it.
Did you remove your snorkel? May I ask why?
What do you mean did I remove my snorkel? It's on.
@@Beacon_Offroad really? Lol it looks like it's not on in this video. I must be blind
@@rjsison27 you gonna make me rewatch my own video for like the 100th time editing lol. Truck sittin in the driveway, snorkels still there lol.
@@Beacon_Offroad lol
what state?
Canada sir. 🇨🇦
I get you're proud of them, but if you'd shut off some of your lights we could see what you're doing better...
