    The first air gun was the Girandoni air rifle. It was designed by Italian inventor Bartolomeo Girandoni around 1779. The weapon was taken on the Lewis and Clark Expedition to explore and map the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. It took LOTS of pumping to have enough air charge to fire a pellet, but it didn't depend on gun powder.
    Today, the air gun appears to be just hitting its stride and your channel is proof of that. I read about a fellow who put a dab of petroleum jelly on the concavity at the base of the pellet. When he "fired" the gun -- a rifle -- you could see a puff of smoke and the muzzle velocity increased to about that of a conventional .22 rifle. Remembering the gas laws that you SHOULD have learned in your high school chemistry class, when the air entered the pellet chamber, its compression caused the chamber temperature to rise to the auto-ignition point of the petroleum jelly. In other words, it burned and gave an additional kick to the pellet velocity, distance and penetrating power. The only drawback was a oily residue, which required periodic cleaning.
    I took this concept to the next level. I bought some magician's flash paper. It is nitro cellulose. (Other forms include flash cotton and flash string). Putting a tiny piece in the base of the pellet and firing it with my single-shot, break-barrel air rifle gave impressive results. You could hear the report from firing, see the puff of smoke and feel slight recoil . I had no way of measuring the muzzle velocity, but it seemed to have impressive distance. I put the idea aside as a defense tool since a single-shot rifle wouldn't be much use in an emergency situation.
    Now, with your demonstration of the PCP pistol, it is time to resurrect the idea and test it. Actually, by disclosing the concept here, I am hoping that other enthusiasts will jump on the idea and try it themselves. Best, of course, would be an easily concealable pistol with perhaps 12-shot capacity. Since air pistols are exempt from fire arm regulations, no license or registrion is required for their purchase and use. Note that ONLY compressed air, compressed pure oxygen, or probably compressed nitrous oxide, will work. Since carbon dioxide won't support combustion, a conventional CO2 cartridge isn't going to allow this concept to be functional.

    • @AirgunAlley
      @AirgunAlley  7 місяців тому +2

      Wow! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! And I also hope that some other enthusiasts will jump on your interesting idea…

      The "dieseling" trick with oil do not work on PCP airgun because you do not get the same heating on a PCP so no ignition...

    5:13 im so so glad you mentioned this. Whilst we have guns in the uk; they are hard to get, and pistols aint allowed without a comically long barrels. Also as air guns gun we are only allowed 6 joules energy pistol and 12 for rifle type, or its a firearms license like a gun. So the last thing we got and looked for self defense (even though, technically we are not allowed too - unless "reasonable force" and i musnt have bought my weapon for self defence purposes- so i have to say i bought it as i enjoy target practice. ) - is the crossbow, and now crossbows have magazines, they are a good option over here with zero licensing or restrictions.
    I saw jorg sprave review that gun and I'd love one too, but im unsure of the air strength. Crossbows you can get through the mail, air guns and rifles you have to pick up at a firearms shop, no licensing, but they take your name and address.

      @AirgunAlley YOU never, ever disappoint. I was exhausted at the end of a very long day yesterday; otherwise, I would have written more. Today, I say, bless you for your humor and the effort you put into your "art." You are a comic and a reporter with the very serious mission of informing the world of advances in air gun technology; one of the few personal self-defense resources allowed in some parts of the world. On behalf of all of those people, especially older individuals like myself, less physical capable and/or inherently peaceful people like my daughter/mother/innocent children, thank you VERY MUCH for informing us of technology that could be used in defensive situations. I also respect your notice in each production that you do not advocate shooting anything except inanimate objects! The Spaghetti-O cans are my favorite! Vaya con Dios, and may your success continue to grow and grow!

      really? my tiippmann a5 shoots the same cra as it, but mines full auto and has a 20 OUNCE tank.. whats byrna a 7 shot wonder? being those tiny co2 capsules... if you really need one for self defense know there only really affective is the less then 20 feet away, other then that there's not accurate. thus mine shoots upward of 16 balls a second... so I have a full auto for $260 full ready..... I find these "less lethal" words are like oop, because its ... Less... lethal we get to charge 3x the price,,,, same with the tps,,, its a $150 paintball pistol everyone thinks was developed as a defense gun LOL they charge about twice as much though... so go paintball its cheaper for the same thing,,, .68cal launcher :-)

    Well let me start by saying happy birthday! Nice gift you got too! Also love your many 'tiers of destruction', which if you haven't named it yet I think that's appropriate. Now the gun itself eh, was not thoroughly impressed with it honestly. It looks great and all but in my opinion lacks the punch that I would expect when you have to lug around a tank of compressed air or have a compressor with you wherever you take it. Yeah, guns more portable running off of CO2 were more efficient. And that's why you do what you so we don't go out and spend the money and have regrets afterwards, and I'm sure we all thank you for that. Great work again as always brother!

    Thanks for saying something important; in most countries having a firearm that is handy like a handgun is illegal or severely restricted. You may as well say there are no other options and that is 100% true.
    Anyone who argues they would rather have a real gun lives in a privileged world.
    Currently I have a Tippman pistol, two Umarex, and a Byrna like we just saw you get. They are not illegal to own, but you still cannot use one in open carry. It has to stay in a more discrete belt pouch.
    For us deprived people, an airgun IS part of a line of defense. The Viper shows what it can do to a coconut; that is more than enough to make a thief think twice. A shot to the head might kill.
    A Byrna 68 hard ball (we cant have pepper balls) to the face WILL break teeth and probably destroy an eyeball. All of which will stop most people.
    That is more than fine for us.

    Its about the next best tool for self defense besides a firearm. A crossbow or bow would be more lethal but you really only have one shot and very hard to hit a moving human sized target. But if you point this at a bad guy with the adrenaline and stress of self defense situation they won't even realize its w airgun. So yeah if you cant or dont want a firearm this is probably the next best option but dont fool yourself into think this is anymore safer than a firearm because its just as dangerous. A bullet is a bullet doesn't matter if its a explosion or air propelling it.

    Hi, Can I ask why you did not disclose the flaw with the viper, machine gun discharging when fired empty after a mag is finished? I own this gun and have sent it back to evanix and I can share the emails. Evanix is aware of this problem and is trying to fix in the NEXT model. In short, they said keep track of your shots and don't fire the gun empty or the miss fire will happen. For a $1000 gun, I think this should be looked into or because they sent it for free you can't disclose this information???

    • @SustainableCrypto2014
      @SustainableCrypto2014 9 місяців тому

      He indicates that he fired 12 shots. He also indicated that he fired with an empty cylinder and it "machine gunned" and released air. The .25 cal Viper pistol is good for about 12 - 14 shots on an air charge. It is not good for the gun to dry fire it under pressure and it will "machine gun" when fired below about 140 bar. After firing 12 shots the tank was run down and should not have been dry fired on an empty mag. The result M got was exactly what would happen under the circumstances. You may want to suggest to him that he count the shots or what many people do is put a red or yellow dot on the last position in the mag so that he can visually see it and not dry fire the gun.
      We have the Viper boxed and ready to ship. The result Martin got are exactly what would happen if dry fired on a low air charge.
      THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY IT'S USER ERROR.
      We know that there is a learning curve attached to air guns; we will write this one off to education.

      The new batch of Evanix has an improved wider valve bracket fixing the burping issue at the end of the two magazines however it will still burp on low pressure

      These are parts of emails from evanix and the dealer I bought the gun from. I would love opinions on this issue

      Hi, I’m sorry you had issues with this gun and thank you for sharing all this information. It’s a brand new gun, so I’m sure Evanix will be getting a lot of data and feedback. I shot it for several hours non-stop, I also shot 6 dry rounds (at min 3:00) and the gun worked fine after.
      And yes I disclose all the information, good or bad, as I encounter it. Regardless of the fact that I get products for free. You should watch the video I did two weeks before this one, on the AG 92…

      @@AirgunAlley I did not know that you fired empty during the video. As you can see from the email from evanix - then your gun "mis-behaved" since the gun is designed to discharge. So why did your gun not misfire as it's suppose to?
