Nice comparison, I had been wondering about this because I was reminded of ME when playing DL2, esp the vault-jump. I think it's interesting how DL2 comes off as more grounded at first, and then you can kinda explain away the oddities as Aiden being superhuman. Mirrors Edge kind of embraces its arcadey origins, yet has a more "realistic" wall run, lol. I'm glad techland took inspiration from ME, they're the only games that turned parkour into genuine plstforming rather than pressing forward. I hope more devs can see how ahead of the curve Catalyst was with movement.
Man I wish we could get a ME 3 with open world interaction with the ground world too and weapons coming back, even if they have to change the protagonist like how dying light did
honestly I like the feel of the movement more in the first dying light even though the variety in movement tech is just mashing the spacebar and sometimes using the tic tac skill, idk its just sometimes in the second game I feel like a brick being thrown through the air with no control
@@berice4390 but that's not the issue, I use high FOV on Catalyst as well and the hand motion looks natural, in dying light it looks ugly and stiff lol
about the experience part, I'd disagree. Aiden doesn't just travel through wastelands or plains, he also travels around ( or through) mountainous terrain, making his experience with parkour much more natural. I'd say that dl2's parkour system easily wins over mirror's edge catalyst's more realistic form of parkour where you don't have much time to make certain decisions. That includes the system of parkour in the original mirror's edge too. It's just much more diverse and can take many forms, even if it is highly based off of animation which catalyst technically also has but the original doesn't. And in comparison with catalyst and the original, the original is more manual, but also a bit more oriented with physics whilst granting diversity considering its wonky physics too. Catalyst has plenty of issues, so much that it isn't of comparison to dying light 2, despite being inspired by it. That includes the first dying light, it was inspired by mirror's edge, yet ended being more fun to traverse with.
The only problem DL2 will have If the dev did not do anything anymore about it, is literally the collision detection bug and the climbing or certain action is super slow such as after getting hit as the recovery animation took tons of time and zombie spits completely stop your air momentum and not slow it down a bit, so most of the time player will fall to their death. Other than that the game is still good in parkouring feel, it is just the bug that causes frustration to play it
No, those issues I said are still in the games. Because at that very update I have also got to level 300 and 100% all achievements recently. More so I still play the game everyday just to run around like a fool, but I do still often on getting the collision detection bug (It did get fixed some but it is still there, especially when doing jumping / Wall climbing as if there is a slight higher ground then the game start to confuse and You have to manually do forward and jump or sometime You can't go up anymore and your only option is jump down or You just stuck in repetitive animation until the game calm down a bit). I love the game, it's just that those bugs will often cause rage as most of the deaths You will get in this game is due to the bugs and not enemies (Or enemies hit You when You're still stuck on enemies's dying animation or can't even climb property)
Imagine the beauty of mirrors edge and zombies in a single game

I only have experience with ME, but this seems like a very robust and fair comparison to both game's respective styles. Good stuff!
Appreciate that man

I feel like with the physical parkour mode there’s a lot more air control maybe to much
The way the hands move while running in dying light 2 gave me the answer
@@idkdc2615 for its defense. I had FOV high so it’ll come across a certain way

Fair enough ha ha
Mirror´s edge just feels better. They need to make a new one and change writers, that games dialog and story was fucking terrible
Don’t know if we’ll get another one unfortunately
@@berice4390 yeah sadly
What about ME 2008 and DL 2015?
Didn’t feel like a valid comparison

Obviously DL2 has the best parkour in games now
no one has over come first person parkour from Catalyst
it's just best in catalyst
DL feels choppy as if pre determined animations
I would agree with you with the older parkour system but DL2’s newest improvements this year opens up so much more creativity that catalyst lacks
boy see dying light 2's thrid person 😂 😂
nah I hope mirror edge better
nice video!
Why parkour and fight zombies in game when I can parkour and fight grandpa in real life?
I suppose there’s higher risk with grandpa route

DL2 is unfortunately still jank, even with all the major parkour and physics improvements. Standard Techland game.
