The fact we're still talking about who will replace him 20 years after Jordan stopped playing is proof of this along with the fact we don't have this type of discussion about any of the other great NBA players. No discussion whatsoever about the next Bill Russell, Wilt, Magic, Bird, Dr. J, etc. It's always about getting above Jordan.

    He reminds me of a young Kobe if anything. He pays respect to the past generations, but is uber confident. He constantly draws parallels to older greats, and is very hungry with a mindset of winning. The main difference is only that Kobe wasn’t able to start his career as a first option in his early 20’s

      @neezduts Good points. Acts like Kobe, looks more like MJ. lol. To be fair to Kobe, the only reason he wasn't a first option at 22 was because he had prime Shaq... Ant wouldn't be the first option either if prime Shaq was on the Wolves.

      Kobe's foot as "one" of the greatest is set in stone and nobody can take that away. However, the eye test on the style of ball this kid plays is something special. The footwork and finesse is impressive, if he can maintain that level in the finals when that moment comes is yet to be seen. To make premature comparisons like this at 22 is ridiculous but he's got a long career ahead of him and I think we're in for a treat

    I think Ant is more like D-Wade with some MJ resemblance in his game, specifically the mid range, tenacious defense, dunks, and footwork.
    Kobe though was the most similar to Jordan by far, even down to their builds which is just crazy.
    Ant: 6’4, 6’9 wingspan, vertical 41-43
    D-Wade- 6’4, 6,10 wingspan vertical 36-38
    MJ - 6’6, 6.11.5 wingspan, vertical 46-48
    Kobe- 6’6, 6’11 wingspan vertical 40-42
    MJ was just so fundamentally sound. Very precise, surgical, and efficient with his moves even in his earlier playing days. Very similar to Kobe. It was masterful but still had a blend of creativity. I see that prematurely with Ant but it’s a little more sporadic, more 3s, more dribbling. Still a fantastic player and to me the best SG in the NBA.

      You’re in an oldheads comment section. Lebron’s name will always be brought up. The reason why Kobe’s name was constantly brought up was because the media shaped the whole narrative and they are the ones who had control over everything basketball. With the internet and especially social media, the fans are the ones who make their own opinions based on more concrete stats and more film available to the public. The reason Kareem’s name isn’t brought up is because Lebron and Jordan are just very clearly better players both in their prime and especially Lebron with his longevity. Kareem isn’t as good as Prime Lebron or Prime Jordan, his resume isn’t as good as Jordan and his longevity, versatility and statistical dominance isn’t as good as Lebron’s. Lebron is easily the greatest all around player ever with the best longevity ever. MJ had the best prime in NBA history and easily has the most accolades in NBA history. Both of them also have a lot of narratives around their careers which gives them the aura and really interesting story.
      Jordan was an incredible player who couldn’t get it done in the playoffs until he won his first ring. He 3-peated, retired, and 3 peated again.
      Lebron had a similar case except he betrayed his hometown team and choked in the finals, until he got it done twice. Then he went back home and won the trophy in easily the craziest way anyone has ever won a ring.
      Both of them easily have 2 of the 3 greatest seasons ever. (1988 Jordan, 2000 Shaq, 2013 Lebron).

    • @Cain353
      @Cain353 Місяць тому +2

      @@d3va383The focus shifted to LeBron vs Jordan because, after Kobe retired, the league needed to keep the narrative going. As it creates interest both from LeBron fans as well as 'old heads' who watched Jordan. It's all about getting viewers.
      And now, with LeBron in the twilight of his career, the narrative will shift to one of the new stars. In this case, Ant Man.
      Back when Kobe played, there were a lot more people who said Kobe was the GOAT. That support has dropped off substantially. Time will tell if the same happens for LeBron. I think it will. LeBron just doesn't have the accolades that Jordan has and Jordan is, still, a global icon.
      LeBron has the scoring record and the longevity. But so did Kareem before him. Very few people remain who consider Kareem the GOAT despite him dominating every Basketball league he ever played in.

    • @d3va383
      @d3va383 Місяць тому +1

      @@Cain353 the difference between Kareem and Lebron is that Lebron is simply a much better player in his prime then Kareem was. The thing is Lebron in 2012 wasn’t getting GOAT comparisons cuz he never even won a ring. Since he came back from down 3-1 is when he started getting those comparisons, but that does coincide with Kobe’s retirement. It’s more of a circumstance thing. No one said Lebron was the GOAT in 2015 because he only had 2 rings.

    Anthony Edwards pretty much reminds me of a young MJ from the 80's.
    The 80's MJ loves to dunk a lot and drive to the basket, just like Ant-Man. as always you demonstrate a solid concept of the media machine unlike a lot of other people. Ant-man definitely has everything to be a legit worldwide sensation if the play backs it up. He's mentally built for it it seems and the MJ comparisons in terms of play style are also incredibly valid. I think Ant has the best shot of anyone in my 30 year life time of being the next MJ. The success is just crazy to try and emulate and without it every comparison inevitably falls short. It requires the whole organization to be excellent for a long stretch that coincides perfectly with Ant's peak. Ultimately gonna take a lot of luck even if he does end up being as good as MJ on the court--which is also a LOT to ask.

    I love this guy Ant Edwards, man. He'll absolutely be the crowned the "face" of the NBA by the media when LeBron is done ESPECIALLY if he wins the championship this year. What I love about him is he actually plays in games (played 79 of 82 games this year) just like MJ did in his career, and is a reliable two-way guard who makes great plays down the stretch in games. Plus, he also connects to the younger generation by being funny and serious when playing. I don't think he'll be as prolific of a scorer as MJ was because he doesn't have to carry as much weight on his team early on in his career as MJ had to when he arrived in Chicago. But hey, he has gotten better each season of his career thus far and don't expect that trend to end anytime soon.
