That part where players talk about jordan as if hes a higher being is really consistent. Every single "jordan story" telling is delivered with a certain level of awe/mazement in their eyes
Pre social media era, leads to a more mythical feeling, that’s why you won’t really see these kind of story telling about any current nba players. That doesn’t mean Jordan is the best player of all time 😂
@@almightyyeezydab5149 social media is irrelevant here. im talking about those players mentioned in the video. Their own stories about jordan. Your comment dont make sense hahahaha
I think it's also worth noting that the players who played against/with MJ and chose Lebron as their GOAT consisted of only 3 players: Bill Laimbeer, Isiah Thomas, and Scottie Pippen. All of these 3 have noted their personal grudges against Michael Jordan. Obviously, I love these players and they are all all-time greats, but that's pretty interesting that the only 3 players to have witnessed Jordan live and voted against him also have personal reasons to dislike him.
Karl malone and Gary payton said LeBron also and John salley and Dennis Rodman actually said pippen was the most talented player ever some people really just think that especially guys from the 80's or the generation before Jordan all say LeBron I notice that also

Tbh i love jxmys work but in this case i have some argues. Most important, 112 players is not concider a capable sample when we refer to tens of thaousands of players throughout the nba history. Second, sample should be taken equally from players of all decades wich is imposible to do now since players who played in the first decades are no longer alive or to old to even bother to concider participating in this serioucly. Third, an average player's opinion is not having the same importance as the one of a hof. HOF players usually play the game longer. In order to do that they must win more wich means they must be better of others. Being that allou them to understand and critisize others. Also this whould only means something if we somehow have a way to be sure that opinions are authentic and players not gonna change their mind ever, wich as you see from some players is way far from the trouth. So even if i find this channel the best in yt i have doubts about this one.
I thought you were cap I’m not gonna lie. Dick suckers and cap artists sadly go hand in hand. You were not though 🤯 the vids in 2018 were definitely quality but these mfs are insane
You hit the nail on the head in the last two minutes of the video. Every interview I’ve seen about MJ you can see the emotion in the players faces when talking about him that you don’t see when talking about anyone else. Michael Jordan put the fear of god into his opponents.
@@bits8031 you're running around talking shit about MJ because Jxmy said (and 60%+ of NBA players) think he's the GOAT LMAOOO get off Bron's schlong my guy
I’m old enough to remember when Wilt would get talked about a lot more in these discussions. It would be curious to see what happens in a decade or two when people in their 40s and 50s never saw MJ play or don’t have any idea what the aura was that surrounded him while he was playing. LeBron is one of one but imagine the 2015-16 Warriors. Now imagine that level of fear in one player. That was Jordan.
if anyone still denies MJ's status after his ultimate mixtape, his accomplishments, and records (reg season, post season, and career)...they can never be convinced...probably insist that 2+2=5 as well LOL...MJ was scoring on bigs of the 80's/90's like it was nothing...he'd do everything in his mixtape to today's current players...even Lebron...and probably be in their head and have them out of their game even before tip off with trash talk...
Was around for MJ/kobe/bron and if you enjoy MJ/kobe style than Lebron is nowhere on your top list. Wilt "dominated" just like bron does but if you fell in love with basketball cause of finesse and difficulty of shots under pressure its always going to be MJ > Kobe > the rest.
I’d like to preface this by saying that I played basketball in NYC in an all black high school and got my nick name from the brothers playing at The Cage and at Rucker Park. We were all trying to emulate what Larry bird was doing on the playground and it was impossible for us. However, I remember hearing what Pat Riley said, “If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save a game, I’d choose Michael Jordan, but if I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life, I’d take Larry Bird."
Not only is the research incredible on these episodes, but your writing, delivery, editing style, and music selection are on point. You've really become a great cinematographer in addition to being a very cool basketball head. Keep up the great work Jimmy!

Scottie went from saying "There's not a single situation where I'd pick LeBron over Michael." In the beginning of 2020 to "LeBron is the GOAT" just a couple weeks after a certain documentary aired. I wonder why that is. I also remember him saying he himself is the GOAT not that long ago.

And a lot of the people who voted Jordan idolised him as a child. I don't think NBA players are great people to ask who the GOAT is because they have a more emotional investment in their answer and are more likely to be biased
@@jwil0508-4 They are exactly who you want to ask. How would a fan know more than them? We are watching this stuff on TV, they're in it. With that said, context needs to be considered. If the player has a beef with Jordan it would obviously factor into their opinion.
I understand the votes for Kobe. His various serious injuries were painful to watch, with his tremendous will to compete. he achieved a lot in spite of it. And worked on his defense until he was scary. Heart and willpower that was second to none.
Mike moved like water through a stream. His dominance was complete and effortless. Once he put put his mark on the league it was Jordan and then everyone else. And it's still Jordan and then everyone else.
Michael Jordan played in a weak expansive league with no one like him. Lebron would’ve been 8-0 in the finals, because he wouldn’t have had to take time off because he was gambling.
Not to mention Jordan is actually so bad at shooting threes it’s Honestly funny. He had one year where he shot 50% on 1 three a game that saved him from being well under 30% from three
If you gave lebron the same team, same era, same everything. He’s not going to small enough for the bad boy pistions to beat on him. People are just stuck on the nostalgia of Jordan. They don’t want to drop the curtain and look at the facts.

And as I completely expected Jordan as number one and Kobe being ranked a lot higher in the eyes of his peers than the average Joe. Game recognize game, and if Kobe is seen as the closest thing ever to the GOAT (Jordan) , then of course it stands to reason than he should be ranked higher.
You get that too when it's fans who've played any form of competitive ball vs those who are just fans or what have you. Every person I talk to that I played with whether it be as a teen or playing for my post team in the military, has Kobe as #2 behind Jordan. They all appreciate the hell out of the blend of different players that makes up lebron but can see that Kobe was a complete different monster while Jordan was even levels higher than Kobe. Phil Jackson once alluded to something similar. Kobe had that "it" factor like Jordan had, only Jordan had "it" times 10!
Bro he’s already high enough I have him at 7th jxmy has him 5th and this video ranked it 3rd THIRD bro how high u think Kobe over Lebron? If u do plz click off
Kobe ranked himself as #1 against MJ & LeBron on the James Corden show BUT he was under pressure & was gonna have to eat disgusting food if he didn't answer lol
Larry Bird and Michael Jordan are the two best by far. Kobe 3rd. These three players are also the best one on one players of all time too. They're also the greatest scorers. WINNERS! Clutch! I must make a mention of Allen Iverson. He was the greatest pound for pound.
Kobe’s respect and admiration has always been much higher from his contemporaries and other hoopers than from the fans and the sports media that choose the award winners. Contemporary Testimonials will always be above the opinions of fans and media pundits, most of whom never actually played the sport. Fear and intimidation dont show up in the stat sheet. Kobe was 2nd to only Mike in that department
Kobe beating Ray Allen + Paul Pierce + KG + Rondo (at his best) is always bigger than LBJ's competition. It is notable that Kobe welcomes adversity. I put him next to MJ, even if Wilt and Kareem is in the room.
Lol, depends on when in Kobes career you talking about, I can remember Kobe being the 3rd best player on the Lakers behind Shaq and Eddie Jones, Jordan was the best player on his team from day one, same with LeBron.
I think we are in the middle of watching some of the greatest talent that has ever graced the NBA and it's amazing to be able to experience it. But nothing gives me chills like watching Jordan play and being reminded I got to grow up watching him in his prime. Jordan is the GOAT. Always will be.

Goat can't even break even.
I remember watching MJ when he first came back from baseball. Before that, I thought that he was literally unbeatable. When he got eliminated in 95' I thought maybe he's just not MJ anymore... maybe things are different now and he's just like other great players who maybe got unlucky or beaten sometimes. It was a weird feeling because MJ losing a big game wasn't even on the table before that. Then he came back the next year and he led the greatest team of all time to a championship. When he was back, I felt like he was the same guy who had won the first 3 championships. He was absolutely untouchable. That feeling stayed with me until he took his final shot with the Bulls over Byron Russel to clinch game 6 of the NBA Finals. MJ at his best wouldn't/couldn't lose. Lebron is 95' MJ(45), he's capable of some great play, and winning a championship but he can be beaten by another great player or maybe lose a big series. The greatest players sometimes lose or get outplayed. When Jordan was at his best, he never let me think of him in any other way, he was unbeatable. That's why he's the GOAT.
Yet, Bird and the Celtics swept Jordan and the bulls in the playoffs TWICE. No wonder when Bird retired Jordan sent him a video saying he was glad he was retiring because he ruined a lot of his games! Once Bird retired, Jordan began to dominate. But these 2000 and later players and fans aren't up to snuff to truly judge who was the greatest all around player of all time - Larry Joe Bird, the "Legend".

@@darkmoonmwi9216 I totally agree. MJ has said that in so many interviews. I watched the Last Dance several times and I don't believe MJ said anything over the top about Pippen. MJ talking about Pippen taking himself out of the game was probably the harses thing he said, but it was the truth. I do think that Pippen got screwed when it came to money, but a lot of that was his doing. He wanted the sure thing instead of the big money. Even Jerry knew that he was being paid below league standards at that time.
@@darkmoonmwi9216 I don't think it's the last dance. I think Pippen is still pissed that the team did not redo his deal back in 1993. He felt the team took advantage of a poor boy who just wanted to provide for his family in Arkansas. I think he felt Jordan could of pressured Reinsdorf and Krause into changing Pippen's contract. I think Jordan refused to get involved and that is why Pippen hates Jordan. Also if you read the Jordan rules which was about the 1991 season Pippen was really tight with Horace Grant and both Grant and Jordan did not like each other.
It’s not even the fact that mj has 6 rings. He was already considered the goat before he even won 1. His chips just solidified it. The league actually was afraid of MJ. That’s a fact. To most of us, the goat is really who is the best to ever play the game. Not stats, not chips, not longevity. It’s simply who played it the best. And mj, well he was or if not is the most perfect ball player/career to have ever played.

Hey Jimmy, is there a way for you to calculate how INFLUENTIAL a player was? Meaning, how was the game changed after that player arrived? To me it is obvious how much the game and players have changed via Jordan and now Curry. But I would be curious to see how Dr. J and Kareem affected play after their tenure. And/or if there are other very influential players.
Most influential list IMO: 1. MJ (changed a bunch of things) 2. Dr. J (Put game "above the rim") 3. Iverson (Put hip-hop style in the game) 4. LeBron (player movement & pass-ball-to-the-open-man during crunch time) 5. Curry (obvious here) 6. Kenny Sailors (first man to shoot jump shot, ever) 7. Harden (step-back) 8. Wilt (widened free throw lane and put goaltending in the game) 9. Hakeem (footwork) 10. Kobe (work-ethic and taking triple-team shots)

Billy Cunningham on Jordan: "I think he was the best ever. The whole package. He's scary sometimes with his defense. The passion he had amazes me. At a certain age, it's more difficult to get up for a game. A big game, sure, it's easy. But he did it for every game. How did he do it? To motivate himself at a level to perform. There's no burnout there. It's something within himself. If I had to play him, I'd pray a lot."
Sam Jones (Bill Russell's teammate) on Jordan: "I don't know if he knows how good he is. He's tremendous. I've never seen anything like him. He's only 6-6. That's amazing. You seldom see a person that size do those things. He's so creative and to be able to take over a game at that size, it's amazing. I'm 55 years old and have witnessed Jordan's rise through Basketball from the beginning of his career right through to the end and all the surrounding (pre-internet) media buzz and hype he created which was unprecedented and even in today's far advanced media age, still unmatched. This is without a doubt the best piece i've watched on the GOAT debate and thank you for summing it up like it obviously had to be. Perhaps Jordan should be considered the God of Basketball, and everyone else can then be measured against each other as mere mortals.
I agree with you bro. Most of the new generation ball fans pick Lebron. These kids were not able to see how Jordan dominates the game. And hey i am not a Jordan fan and always cheer on every team Jordan faces in the finals. I am like 'any team but the bulls' kind of fan. And from a Jordan hater fan like me, i will still pick him as the Greatest of All Time.
@@theFILOProjectTV People will pick Jordan of course because he inspired them to start basketball and that's who they grew up watching. In 20 years, Lebron will be the clear favourite if you do the exact same thing because the people you ask will have grown up watching NBA with Lebron. It's much different playing against someone versus watching them. When you watch it, especially as a kid, they look like superheroes and when people look at things with nostalgia, like Jordan, they see only the good and exaggerate how good they were. People don't appreciate things until thy are gone, and some people will only start appreciating Jordan when he retires. The fact that Lebron has almost half the votes that Jordan has AND he still plays shows that by the time he leaves, it's not even going to be a debate of who the GOAT is.

After watching countless debate videos, sports analysts debates, players debates and fans debates I realize that there's no such thing as GOAT because every great basketball legends and hall of famers have their own strength and weaknesses. Perfect closer. This is what I've been saying all rhis time. Players simply FEARED MJ, and because of that, they respected and appreciate him more compared to other players. And people who actually watch NBA games throughout MJ's era can actually see the fear and respect the whole NBA has for MJ
Kevin Garnett rookie experience is one of the prime example how players simply don't want to mess with MJ, and that they choose NOT to say a word even tho they're winning. Great video. I think your assessment on why NBA players choose the way they do hit the nail on the head for where my headspace is at in this debate. Lebron will probably end up having the greatest individual career of all time but I think the debate really hasn't changed much since the 2016 cavs championship. We've seen the best of Lebron. We know what his strengths and weaknesses are as a player. He's not doing anything crazier in terms of output and skillset at this point. He's in the winding down stages of his career. It's an amazing going into the sunset run but he isn't changing as a player and doing something crazy like averaging 40/10/10. And this is where it's hard for me to really put anybody above MJ because it's hard for me to see anyone actually better than him. He really did do just about everything and did it at a high level while there are still obvious weaknesses to Lebron's game. Like I'm not saying he isn't amazing. Other players have been dominant with limited skillsets as well. Like Shaq and his free throw shooting or Bill Russel's offensive ability. That being said Jordan was dominant while being able to do everything. He was a super gifted athlete, with an insane complete set of skills, and high basketball IQ. The man just could just beat you 5 different ways and it was up to how good of a mood he was in on how much or little he would embarrass you. This included the other superstars of the eras he competed in. We haven't seen that before or since and I think that is where it's always going to be hard to find someone better than him for me. Lebron is an insane basketball player that has been dominant in his eras. He is a strange beautiful mixture of Kareem's longevity and Shaq's physical dominance with a little sprinkle of decent shooting and magic's passing in there to force defenses to keep honest with him. Jordan was still capable of being that but even more. Like I could dream up a Frankenstein's monster of player attributes to make a better player. Giannis' physical gifts, Allen Iverson's ball handling, Magic Johnson's passing, Lebron's slashing ability, Ben Wallace's rim defense, Durant's shot creating ability, Steph's pure shooting ability. That would be a better player than Jordan but no such creature really exists and the closest thing we have to that monstrosity was Jordan imo.
@Bandup Zay Kobe Bryant is the only player to win three titles before the age of 23. Look it up. We know now Kobe could lead his own team to three consecutive finals. He lost to an amazing Celtics team probably would have spanked Jordan as well. We will never know the kind of player Kobe could have been had he spent three years in college and then allowed to lead his own team. I imagine he still would have about 5 rings. Kobe was so good and dominant that the NBA had to veto him getting Chris Paul because it wasn't fair to the other teams lmfao
@@aw98000 oh my bad lol, I said he wouldn't have been with Shaq the same way had he stayed in college like you said... It changes everything, no way in hell he wins 5 rings
@@gokuswanson2037 the Lakers don't win 3 in a row that's for sure. There's a very real chance the 1999 bulls draft Kobe Bryant first overall if all things remain the same. I guess we'll agree to disagree. I think it's more than possible that Kobe wins 5 if he plays three years of college and has a team built around him from the start. It all depends on which team and which coach but if it's the bulls then he gets mentored by Jordan and Phil Jackson comes back and the bulls probably win another 5 rings over the next 15 years.
No matter what… ain’t no way MJ legacy gonna be forgotten. Decades will go by and MJ will still be sung about. When MJ dies his legacy will rise even more. No hate on Lebron/Kobe but this is facts.
Yup. To be honest, Kobe's stock rose when he died. The majority of well-respected lists don't even put him in the top 5 or 10 before the fact. MJ will get cemented on number 1 when that happened - if he hasn't already been cemented anyway.
Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy!!! As always… a master piece of analysis… I have been watching and playing basketball since I was a little boy and I born in the veryyyy early 70’s and I still watching the game…. But what I can say with a 100% sure, without desrespect the wonderful players of all different eras is that no body give me the emotion and excitement that MJ gave us every night…. The fear that he produced in his oponents it was notable… As his famous trainer said in the “Last Dance” documentary: “If you expend 2-3 hours site at your home to watch him play… He had a responsibility with his fans and people to do his best… to do his best ALL THE TIME” or a quote something similar to that… but you can see how emotional his trainer was when he was saying that…. Just think about it… Just saying… God Bless You Jimmy!!!
Yeah, I don't ever recall watching MJ play and wondering if he was really trying. I don't even bother watching most regular season games anymore because the players are phoning it in and that is if they even show up.
I might have Bird as 2nd no cap. The only thing holding Bird back was.. his back. Prime for prime, peak for peak, he's as good as anybody's ever been if you do a deep dive into his career. Too bad he hurt his back early in his career and he sustained that injury throughout his entire prime career.

Hey Jimmy, I watched a lot of these debates, and even your other video on this, and this was most persuasive. Thanks for the hard work brotha!
That's why he's the GOAT.
you know he only played in like 18 games in the 94-95 season right?
Yet, Bird and the Celtics swept Jordan and the bulls in the playoffs TWICE. No wonder when Bird retired Jordan sent him a video saying he was glad he was retiring because he ruined a lot of his games!

Bill Russell on Jordan
"I cannot imagine anyone playing any better."
Bill also said that himself was the greatest ever, and also Wilt was the greatest ever. Never could pick.
Russell also told him he couldn't have won those championships in his time
I was too young to witness the greatness from Jordan, but the fact that his game changed the entire sport of basketball speaks volumes. Undeniably the GOAT 🐐
Watch some of MJ's most famous games, they still hold up!
It’s full games on UA-cam, you can watch if you want to tbh.
I remember my grand father was watching jordan vs utah. And i was keep on changing the channel to cartoons being the spoiled me. After that he died. And i so regret not watching the games with him. Jordan is the best ever. My grandfather may he rest in peace.

Excellent!! When he said "I don't think it's what you expect" I think he meant just how overwhelming MJ won over LBJ. Frankly, I'm not surprised. MJ is the G.O.A.T., and it's not even close. Kudos for a job well done.
I think most casuals would be surprised at how overhelming LBJ won against Kobe. If you judge players by Twitter and UA-cam comments, you would think Lebron is not even top 5 of all time. Most casuals on twitter always said Kobe is better than Lebron lmao.

When you step on the court to do battle with an opponent you can really feel the aura of someone great. Only the players understand this, not the fans.

When Jordan came back from his retirement in 94-95, this was before social media, but everyone was talking about him as if it was the second coming of Christ. You would walk in the grocery store or metro station, and all you would hear is "Jordan is back!!!" He is the one and only true GOAT this game has ever seen. No one else comes close.
Social media is also the reason he’s never been torn down. He’s actually lucky social media wasn’t around.

Can you go to MJ’s three point percentage, and you’ll see on year where he shot 50% on one three a game. Without that your goat is shooting well below 30% from three. As always, job exquisitely done Jimmy my man
Billy Cunningham on Jordan:
"I think he was the best ever.
If we asked 100 NBA youtubers, Jimmy would definitely be the GOAT

Sam Jones (Bill Russell's teammate) on Jordan: "I don't know if he knows how good he is. He's tremendous. I've never seen anything like him. He's only 6-6. That's amazing. You seldom see a person that size do those things. He's so creative and to be able to take over a game at that size, it's amazing. Oscar and West were the best, but there's no other version of Jordan, the hang time, how high he jumps, how quick he moves. The guy amazes me. ... He's the best I've ever seen."
Oscar said what about Lebron? "Lebron isn't as good as Jordan? Lebron is in a league all by himself"
@@ManagerMatt1 Oscar has always been insanely jealous of Jordan and his money and fame. He believed everything Jordan had in the 80's and 90's, he should have had in the 60's. And perhaps that was so. But I won't trust anything Oscar has to say about MJ as there is an agenda behind it.
A throwback to an old video! I love it
I'm 55 years old and have witnessed Jordan's rise through Basketball from the beginning of his career right through to the end and all the surrounding (pre-internet) media buzz and hype he created which was unprecedented and even in today's far advanced media age, still unmatched.

@@MrTVx99No he won’t. Bron just doesn’t carry the same aura that Jordan has had for decades. When he is no longer playing and his propaganda machine loses its impact by not having him being propped up by some of the media and the NBA as the face of the league he will drop from the attention of the sport’s fans.
After watching countless debate videos, sports analysts debates, players debates and fans debates I realize that there's no such thing as GOAT because every great basketball legends and hall of famers have their own strength and weaknesses. If we should name the greatest of all-time it should be categorized, for example GOAT in Stats; GOAT in Skills, GOAT in Mentality, GOAT in Championship etc.. Etc.. I think that's the perfect way to do it 💪
The entire video was great, but the conclussion was a master piece. Excellent job
Cause they feared MJ would just get serious and destroy them. His iconic moments with Mutombo was also prove that he would absolutely take on any challenge and trash talks thrown at him and demolish it
That's mentality of a winner! no one cant stop him.
I doubt that Bird, Magic or Isaiah feared Jordan.

That last stat was clutch. Jimmy doing Jordan things.
It's been said many times, but I'll repeat it here for emphasis: "There is a reason when people talk about greatness in other areas of competition, the goats are always referred to as the Michael Jordan of "
Great video.
I do believe that this podcast era that we are livin in proofs that playing basketball and understand basketball are not the same thing
I will always be a fan of LeBron but I truly believe MJ is the GOAT 🐐
@Bandup Zay Kobe Bryant is the only player to win three titles before the age of 23. Look it up. We know now Kobe could lead his own team to three consecutive finals. He lost to an amazing Celtics team probably would have spanked Jordan as well.
We will never know the kind of player Kobe could have been had he spent three years in college and then allowed to lead his own team. I imagine he still would have about 5 rings.
Kobe was so good and dominant that the NBA had to veto him getting Chris Paul because it wasn't fair to the other teams lmfao
@@gokuswanson2037 what are you even saying lol

Yup. To be honest, Kobe's stock rose when he died. The majority of well-respected lists don't even put him in the top 5 or 10 before the fact. MJ will get cemented on number 1 when that happened - if he hasn't already been cemented anyway.

Michael Jordan is no doubt the undisputed GOAT. BUT...
As Larry Bird once asked, "Who's getting second?"
