The viaduct the Hogwarts Express goes over in the movies is the Glenfinnan Viaduct on the West Highland Line. While you can't ride it on the Hogwarts Express, you CAN ride it on The Jacobite which is a train that looks similar to it. The service runs between Fort William and Mallaig.
I like how Universal managed to replicate Hogwarts Express by turning a people mover system into one and having it be a park-hopper service to connect Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure between USF's Diagon Alley and IOA's Hogsmeade. And they put screens on the windows to make you believe you're on your own new journey rather than see the backstage facilities. They did it so brilliantly. The Universal Creative team is truly phenomenal. That aside, for an expensive set, wish it was motorized
They sell LEGO in north korea?!?! Jokes aside, if it was going to be motorised, expect it to be like the 21335 lighthouse. Lesser pieces. Or if they included motor functions in this already expensive set, will add to the cost even more. No way in hell they are going to be generous to be like hey 5000+ pieces and let's throw in a couple motors and still sell for $500.
My guess is they would have done it to meet corporate diversity requirements. Given the price of the set, you'd think they could have included another 2 characters though, perhaps that would have put them in the next level diversity bracket and they'd have to have included even more random characters to meet the requirement.

The passenger car build is amazing! Reminds me of the Lionel State Set from the 1920s and 30s. (which is roughly the same size as this build and runs on a similar gauge of track) I wish the cab of the engine had more of an interior, but the crank-powered drive wheels is a nice touch. If you really wanted to run this on track, you could get some G gauge track from Bachmann or LGB
The locomotive actually fits on proper model train gauge one track, and the scale is also pretty close to proper gauge one trains which is a nice touch.
I bought this yesterday and haven't opened it yet. But I hope they have changed the sticker for the plaque with the right spelling of King's Cross Station. I don't mind another couple of student's robes for Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, but an adult Hermione and Ron would be much better.

That's a massive change in cultural diversity in only 25 years or so. BTW, I think cultural diversity is generally a positive thing - just saying that the current extremist left attitudes to the past are not healthy, as all they do is drive the extremist right even further up the nut-pole & that's where you get batshit crazy ideas like White Genocide driving extremist nationalism. All that aside, I would say with the UK still being made up of something around 85% white, they aren't very diverse at all comparatively. Here where I live in NZ, it's around 70% white, and that's all white groups - that's diverse.
Another thing: good point about the front and back wheel not turning. I douct you have done something wrong. I think it has to do with the way Lego works. see it as a large baseplate, which curls up when you start building on it. Since the size is long and relatively small, it seem to me, the same happens in here: the front and back bend upwards a bit, so the wheels dont touch the floor.

You can easily replace the batteries in the light bricks that’s why there’s a screw to take off to separate the brick it even shows how to do it in every manual of sets that come with them.
I'm surprised that they went for the older Harry with his kids for the set in the first place. There are a lot of important things that happen on the train during the first 6 years. The scene with Harry's kids at the end is such a small and unimportant scene to the overall story (unless you're a fan of The Cursed Child...which I am not). They could have depicted a lot of other things that happened on the train and skipped Harry's kids at the very end of the last book after the story is over. For sure they should have included Ron and Hermione and their kids if they were going to go that route though.
Why was there no promotional free gift with purchase (GWP) set for the most expensive Harry Potter set so far? This is where Lego dropped the ball. It was the perfect situation to include a free limited mini set with adult Ron & Heroine, maybe also their kids, which would add to the station platform scene. I went to buy this set on release day and even the Lego store staff were surprised there was no GWP. I didn't buy as there was no GWP to justify the large cost, $800 here in Australia. I'll have to wait and see if the price drops anywhere first or use up all my VIP points and get it at half price.

The platform like you mentioned, which you didn't point out has errors, namely the wrong type of train (GWR 5900 doesn't exist) and the typo on the station. It's called "King's Cross", not "King Cross", which is poor on a set that costs this much. Then that train track base which takes up 10% of the total piece count and could've knocked like another 100 off the price. If it was just the train for £200/$250, then yeah maybe; but as it is, it's needlessly overbudgeted.

Hey MandRproductions, I really like this new of the Hogwarts Express from Lego. By the way, the vehicle in the front is called a locomotive not a train. A train is actually the coaches or freight wagons behind the coal bunker or tender of the locomotive. The class of the locomotive from Lego is called a Hall class. The Hall class used to work on the Great Western Railway and they were designed by Charles Collett. This particular locomotive is called Olton Hall and it was the exact locomotive used in all of the Harry Potter movies. Olton Hall is currently on static display at Warner Brothers studio tour in London although, there are rumors about Olton Hall going to be removed from the studio tour when lease on Olton Hall is expired.
I hate how Lego decides to put the extra long rods for the drive pistons so they still poke out of the steam chambers they really could’ve given us a smaller rod and covered up the front at least

Not everything is an agenda, especially not toys.

Nobody cared about adding characters in the background that are not "the main 3", the thing is the main 3 are nowhere to be found. It is Harry Potter, everybody knows who the series is about, and the scene they wanted to recreate when they added Harry's children was obvious, the fact that they did not want to include 2 of the main characters and instead replaced them with 2 figures that are not even in the movie, just points at the fact that they needed to be put there no matter what. Or maybe the designers are just incompetent.
It's so obvious and in your face why those minifigs are included, and these people are denying it because "they're toys", as if forced diversity hasn't already reached every media outlet across the board.
I'm not a big Harry Potter fan (did like the movies though) but I am a train fan, and for most part I do very much like what I see. But obvious problem is, I don't care one bit for that platform and all of the minifigs, which represent a big chuck of the price tag. A price tag that to me already seems pretty steep, especially considering so many essential decorations were done with stickers. And as you've proven here in this video, even for experienced builders those are still quite easy to mess up. If I'm being generous I see a €250 train, €150 stuff for HP fans and a €100 markup for the next Ferrari of the CEO. I wouldn't mind Lego making more trains in this scale though. Pure display models, not meant for play. I still feel that was the big problem with the Crocodile, it tried to be both and ultimately had some pretty major flaws for either purpose. But a set based on an actual train, in this bigger scale with all of the detail? And obviously prints instead of stickers? I wouldn't mind spending quite a bit of money on that....
I wish they included a better variety of characters instead of doing different year versions of the main cast. Having 4 Harrys seems absurd when most Lego Harry Potter fans already have each year's version. I think I may actually have more Harrys than clone troopers.
Since the train can’t even move on the tracks, I would have just not included the tracks. That’s probably another $100-$150 of cost. And then the $100-$150 for the station. $500-($300 or $200)=$200 or $300 for just a big detailed train and I think that would sell much better.
Honestly with the minifig issue I kinda understand why they did that because if you included Ron and hermione you should include their kid/s it’s been awhile see I’ve read that part
Like I Said I think I was not stating facts. I was going off many other sets like for example the snow trooper battle pack any other army builders like it have mostly been all the same face but the snow trooper battle pack has different colours of people in it. I was just stating my opinion.
Lego prices are absolutely ridicuolous right now. Honestly, I don't know if they've risen in price or not, but to me it's depressingly expensive for even small sets. $70 for Mando's naboo starfighter? Come on man.

Wah Wah it doesn’t fit on standard LEGO train tracks…no 💩 train nerds it wasn’t designed for that purpose…get creative & use the brick system to make it work. that’s why LEGO made their brick system. There’s been a Black student on the platform, but he wore a Quidditch uniform and held a broomstick. Lego didn’t even care to make it close to the source material.
the random charakters are the two set designers as far as I know, that makes it lessrandom but even more upsetting to me. also there is a misspelling on the plate: it says king cross. and I think they should have inclueded a function to show the way one entres 9 3/4 through the wall…. for me all that makes the set quite disappointing

@@SimionAlexandru-hb6xu I personally find problem with a lot of forced diversity box ticking in recent popular media, but for real, it's a LEGO set, there is no secret conspiracy about making figures black or white, they are toys, nobody cares about their skin colour including the designers, so no it's not because representation it's because they most likely wanted to add a few characters who would stand in the background that aren't the main 3. Not everything is an agenda, especially not toys.
@@AllKnowingNick the collectors series was never aimed at kids, most buyers are not kids, nobody will play with the set as they will with a toy. Nobody cared about adding characters in the background that are not "the main 3", the thing is the main 3 are nowhere to be found. It is Harry Potter, everybody knows who the series is about, and the scene they wanted to recreate when they added Harry's children was obvious, the fact that they did not want to include 2 of the main characters and instead replaced them with 2 figures that are not even in the movie, just points at the fact that they needed to be put there no matter what. Or maybe the designers are just incompetent.

It's so obvious and in your face why those minifigs are included, and these people are denying it because "they're toys", as if forced diversity hasn't already reached every media outlet across the board.
I'm not a big Harry Potter fan (did like the movies though) but I am a train fan, and for most part I do very much like what I see. But obvious problem is, I don't care one bit for that platform and all of the minifigs, which represent a big chuck of the price tag. A price tag that to me already seems pretty steep, especially considering so many essential decorations were done with stickers. And as you've proven here in this video, even for experienced builders those are still quite easy to mess up. If I'm being generous I see a €250 train, €150 stuff for HP fans and a €100 markup for the next Ferrari of the CEO.
I wouldn't mind Lego making more trains in this scale though. Pure display models, not meant for play. I still feel that was the big problem with the Crocodile, it tried to be both and ultimately had some pretty major flaws for either purpose. But a set based on an actual train, in this bigger scale with all of the detail? And obviously prints instead of stickers? I wouldn't mind spending quite a bit of money on that....

I wish they included a better variety of characters instead of doing different year versions of the main cast. Having 4 Harrys seems absurd when most Lego Harry Potter fans already have each year's version. I think I may actually have more Harrys than clone troopers.

Phase one is in the clone command set that’s out now but the phase 2 was in a micro fighter in I believe 2014

Since the train can’t even move on the tracks, I would have just not included the tracks. That’s probably another $100-$150 of cost. And then the $100-$150 for the station. $500-($300 or $200)=$200 or $300 for just a big detailed train and I think that would sell much better.

Like I Said I think I was not stating facts. I was going off many other sets like for example the snow trooper battle pack any other army builders like it have mostly been all the same face but the snow trooper battle pack has different colours of people in it. I was just stating my opinion.

Lego prices are absolutely ridicuolous right now. Honestly, I don't know if they've risen in price or not, but to me it's depressingly expensive for even small sets. $70 for Mando's naboo starfighter? Come on man.

Excuse me….excuse me sir…could you tell me where I could find platform 9 & 3/4…. Those little ticket tile prints are great as well as the giant 9 3/4 bonus ticket tile 👍. Nice touches. I’m not a LEGO train nerd so I can’t hear all the train fans complaints over that loud train whistle noise 😂. Wah Wah it doesn’t fit on standard LEGO train tracks…no 💩 train nerds it wasn’t designed for that purpose…get creative & use the brick system to make it work. that’s why LEGO made their brick system. There’s been a Black student on the platform, but he wore a Quidditch uniform and held a broomstick. Lego didn’t even care to make it close to the source material.
the random charakters are the two set designers as far as I know, that makes it lessrandom but even more upsetting to me. also there is a misspelling on the plate: it says king cross. and I think they should have inclueded a function to show the way one entres 9 3/4 through the wall….
for me all that makes the set quite disappointing
