The person who said that plants don’t have an immune system was wrong. Plant cells have the means to recognize pathogens, signal its presence to other cells, activate complex defense mechanisms within the plant that will degrade and kill the pathogen, trigger a state of readiness in other parts of the plants, etc. Plants also have a mechanism to remember and be better prepared for future infections through systemic acquired resistance among (SAR) others. This is an immune system.
ran to the comments looking for this. I'm currently training as an immunologist... OF COURSE plants have an immune system...complex life forms usually do! I can't believe anyone argued differently. It would be great if people used Google before attempting to impart advice 😅
Sean, I'm a newish sub and I'm having an absolute riot watching your videos! Just binge-watching all your previous ones! I'm so impressed wtih you taking us around at the Bangkok plant show, and I'm so touched by your enthusiasm and passion you have for plants. Your excitement and charisma is contagious!! I really appreciate all that you do, love your content!!
Oooooooh what a treat! 😊A cozy Sean home video with classic Sean music this Sunday!!!!! YES!!!!! Love your classic Sean vids (as you know) - they are so grounding 😊Thank you!
Thanks for the great videos from Canada and yes, that does make sense about planting it deeper in the pot and only using a small amount of mix. I wish I would’ve done that with all my plants because they all have a lot of soil at the bottom. I’m tempted to change some of them out.
Most variegated plants come with uncertainty and stress, but sometimes its what makes them so precious haha. I will have more respect for other variegated billietiaes when I see them from now on.
Such a lovely plant! Still too expensive here in USA.....My billetiae is not variegated and I adore it anyway. About your all yellow leaves.will they change to some green pattern? I think too much sun is not good as you have discovered. I keep mine in high refllected window light facing west. It is very happy there and leaves are getting to be 18in+ now. Like you, I use aroid soil and root rot not a problem.Later in video, I see the yellow had to go.
Oh root rot, the bane of our existence in our humid climate! I’ve also recently started automatically rehabbing all plants recovering from root rot in moss, though the extra step is a pain, it’s necessary.
i suggest using the Pumice stone 70 percent as growing media, as Billietiae simiar Philodendron red moon, they don like to much moisture , they like fast drainage and fast dry, due the plants itself have fat stems
Last year I brought billetiae variegated from Indonesia. It was acclimatized very well and is growing. I use a lot of coconut fibre, coconut chips and perlite for growing.
Good morning Sean...just acquired my very first variegated paraiso verde...at a great price finally....hope all is well with you and your fam...with the natural weather challenges 🌋....as of late.
i know you are expert in what you do but i think you should use terracotta pots more often to tackle the over water situation, it helped me as well. cheers
Also, ppl (the ubermensch to be precise) do like to be technical without actual knowledge of terminology (dunning Krueger effect). Basically, in my understanding immune system and defense mechanism is the same thing within biology terms ❤️
😅😅😅😅 this is the cutest comment so far. They are available in TC! So if you are patient you can pick out 2-3 babies and grow them up. It takes 2-4 years to mature
My Billitiae Variegata from Botanika in Germany in March just doesn't do anything. The leaf that was already visible when i bought it doesn't move an inch. Do you have an idea of the reasons why? It is at 65% humidity and under a plant lamp Nice video!
Love your video's Sean ,I recently purchased two spiritu sancti from over seas, they re not doing well got root rot problems .will it kill the plant's, if i remove all the rotted roots,or what do you recomend ,i do.?
Hello. memory friends travel to Jakarta and Bogor in July. I really want a billitiae variegated but it is expensive in Europe. has been in Indonesia in October and bought over 130 plants 😂😂😂Do you have any tips on where I can buy such a plant? I'm a big fan of yours and love watching your videos 🥰😊
They are far more common in Thailand, you can see my last episode in an Indonesia plant show, tons of vendors (i usually leave their names on the screen) and a few of them have billietiaes.
Mr Sean! You say you’re linking previous videos “up above” but never put anything on the screen, silly guy! 😂 I’m not a fan of propagating in moss, it’s so hard to get off the roots after. Blonde Sean! Yaass
Ive noticed that if you adjust care, lower light levels, sometimes they do revert back on its own. But yes the sensible way might have been to cut it from the get go.
Hi Sean! I love your videos but I found the music on this one annoying. Probably just me but you have such a soothing voice I'd rather just listen to you!
the music was getting very distracting towards the 13-14minute mark:( i know you take and appreciate feedback for your videos! maybe more gentle music for the future? lol
Carolyn Palmer Sean not being rude but not sure about new look. It might be an age thing lol I am 71. Hard to accept change. But if u like it that's all that counts!!
Hello, I went Ash gray after this for about 2 weeks and then colored it back. It was for a week holiday in Bangkok 🥰 can’t say I will do it again but Im glad to have gone through it! 😀
😅 its nit picky but i wish you'd call your staff "staff" or "ladies" or something.... adult women shouldnt really be called "girls" unless they're actual young girls. we dont tend to call grown men "boys" unless we're talking to/about our homies/friends in a casual way, you know... seems a bit disrespectful to me personally. anyway, great video otherwise! thanks for all the info :)
I noticed this too-but I know you totally respect them and appreciate them and care about them! It just comes off as condescending, at least in English. If they’re like 18-21, it’s honestly not so big a deal. But ladies is always a good option!
How strange, why does it sound condescending? We often say girls and boys to older people who are our good friends. People here think it's cute because it suggests youthful energy and appearance, despite your real age😊
The brown areas in the variegated sections aren't caused by "root rot." If it were root rot, you'd see brown spots on the green leaves too. Variegated plants often shed or "consume" their "less useful" parts periodically, and this varies from one plant to another. The term "root rot" is really overused these days...

Omg Sean! You must be getting too much sun, you're variegated! I love the new look. You're so handsome! 😮👌🏽
Hilarious 😂
Haha thank you 😀😀
🙈🙈
Hahahahahaha 😅😂

Thank you so muchhhh. Theres a massive bangkok plant show episode coming up next.
looove those videos so much with those long-term updates 😍
Thank you, I will do them now and then 😀
I appreciate you sharing the yearlong journey.
Yayeee
Thanks for taking us along this journey, I enjoyed coming along for the ride!
And your hair looks great! It’s a good look for you :)
Thank you 🙈🙈
Such a satisfying video. Your tips are very helpful and I will now check my plants that haven't pushed out much growth.
Thank you 🥰

Haha not too late to change them out 😀
As the roots grow do you then lift the plant out and add more medium to the bottom?
Thank you so much for all your usefull videos : you are definitively the best teacher for the topic of plant care! 👍💚
Whoaaa thank you Cathie
I always enjoy these plant care/propagation videos! This one convinced me to stay away from variegated Billietiae. Thanks Sean.
Most variegated plants come with uncertainty and stress, but sometimes its what makes them so precious haha. I will have more respect for other variegated billietiaes when I see them from now on.
I want to live in indonesia...jakarta... Looks like a heaven for plants
🥰🥰

I actually have the all green version too and its sooo easy to grow. 😀
Oh root rot, the bane of our existence in our humid climate! I’ve also recently started automatically rehabbing all plants recovering from root rot in moss, though the extra step is a pain, it’s necessary.
Yeahhh most people think plant care is easy in the tropics… but we have our set of problems 🥹
i suggest using the Pumice stone 70 percent as growing media, as Billietiae simiar Philodendron red moon, they don like to much moisture , they like fast drainage and fast dry, due the plants itself have fat stems
You are 100% right. They are quite the epiphyte
Last year I brought billetiae variegated from Indonesia. It was acclimatized very well and is growing. I use a lot of coconut fibre, coconut chips and perlite for growing.
Nice. They really hate water 🥹
Normal soil is better and not toxic
Good luck, hope they bounce back!
Thank you ❤️❤️
Good morning Sean...just acquired my very first variegated paraiso verde...at a great price finally....hope all is well with you and your fam...with the natural weather challenges 🌋....as of late.
Omg that plant is on my wishlist. ❤️ yes the weather has ben aberrant lately…
Thank you so much! This kind of video is my favorite ❤️
Thank you, I will do more 😀
I for one wouldn't mind (would LOVE) a tour of your new garage balcony sometime . . . I can see it in the background and it is tantalising me!!! 😂
Its in my “all plants” video but there will be an update soon 😀
@@onlyplants All plants? Hmmm . . . I know I didn't miss any of your videos, how can this be?! I will go look again.
@@onlyplants I can't find any video entitled "All Plants", could you please let me know the exact name of it? THANK YOU! :D
Beautiful plants..love the billies..question you think rooting hormone would help new plants establish more roots?
I believe so yes.
The plants match your new hairdo! Some survived, so it’s a win!
Haha yes. I finally got the variegation I wanted 🥹
I’d suggest you use 70% perlite + 20% lava rock + 10% bark. I use this mixture and avoided root rot the second time around!
Whoaaa that makes sense for something this epiphytic. Thank you
I really miss your propagation video. Love them
Thank you 😀😀
Ooh, I like the variegated hair you sported near the end! I wonder if by now it has reverted?!
Haha yes it was only variegated for 2 weeks for a New Year trip to Bangkok. Never again I think
i know you are expert in what you do but i think you should use terracotta pots more often to tackle the over water situation, it helped me as well. cheers
Thats a really good idea 🥹 im a hopeless overwaterer
Cette vidéo me rappelle le bon vieux temps où vous faisiez ce genre de vidéo dans l'ancienne maison de vos parents. Merci.
I will try to make more, just not as often ❤️ thank you for hanging around the channel I appreciate you.
I'm baffled that when you pot plants your hair color changes. My hair only gets all the soil and bits of moss around 😂❤ looking good there, sir 🌻🙏🏼
Also, ppl (the ubermensch to be precise) do like to be technical without actual knowledge of terminology (dunning Krueger effect). Basically, in my understanding immune system and defense mechanism is the same thing within biology terms ❤️
Thank you for this! ❤️
Soil and moss on hair is my definition of a good day 😅
@@onlyplants haha, same 🙏🏼😅
These are still SO expensive in the US, can't wait till i can get my hands on one in the future 😊
They’re kind of expensive here too but they have become “common” rare plants. There are new and more expensive varieties now 🫣
You had a long battle with the variegated Billi, the smallest one is perfect 😀🇨🇦
Yes. I actually bought it as a tiny size - similar to the small one about 5 years ago 😀
Help I’m obsessed with Billie I can’t get it out of my head. I want a full mature one so bad but I have a mortgage 😭
😅😅😅😅 this is the cutest comment so far. They are available in TC! So if you are patient you can pick out 2-3 babies and grow them up. It takes 2-4 years to mature
Omg… you dyed your hair. It looks amazing❤❤❤
Haha it was only for 2 weeks 😛
Good video as always! In sweden that three plant is worth 1000-1500$ 😮😮
Whoaaaaaaaa really? Come to asia 🙈 they are quite affordable here especially in Thailand
My Billitiae Variegata from Botanika in Germany in March just doesn't do anything. The leaf that was already visible when i bought it doesn't move an inch. Do you have an idea of the reasons why? It is at 65% humidity and under a plant lamp
Nice video!
I would check the roots, make sure they have not rotten off or dried out. They are slow growing at first but become faster as they get bigger.
Hello Sean hope you are doing well! I am just wondering if you have an Etsy shop and if you sell/ship to the USA?
Hello, I dont sell plants 🥰
Love your video's Sean ,I recently purchased two spiritu sancti from over seas, they re not doing well got root rot problems .will it kill the plant's, if i remove all the rotted roots,or what do you recomend ,i do.?
You can spray it down with fungicide and try water propagation?

Done! Thank you. What would I do without you
Excellent tutorial!!
Thank you 🙏🏽
You’ve spent too long with that plant - your hair’s variegated 😂 Loving the new colour. X
Hahaa yes my hair to match the plant lol
Waw... Beautyful vertical Garden ❤
Thank you ❤️
One word, BLONDE!
🙈🙈
Tip: When propagating variagated plants, always cut off fully variagated leaves.
Ive noticed that if you adjust care, lower light levels, sometimes they do revert back on its own. But yes the sensible way might have been to cut it from the get go.
I love how your hair too healed and recovered to be billietiealy-yellow…
Haha yes it turned all variegated out of frustration 🫣
Almost no soil so how can the plants get nutrients?
Slow release fertilizer pellets, I use osmotoce brand
Hi Sean! I love your videos but I found the music on this one annoying. Probably just me but you have such a soothing voice I'd rather just listen to you!
I noticed only after the upload that the level was way too high, it shouldve been halved. I should have paid attention to the meter during editing🙈🙈
@@onlyplants No worries! I appreciate you responding!
Do your assistants/girls use water meters?
We have so many plants here it takes 2 hours to hose them down completely every day. No time for moisture meters 😅
Your hair looks variegated in the thumbnail
Haha yes it does get variegated towards the end of the video. Too much sun maybe lol.
Hi I want that plant but I didn't found in India..
Wooo I have a feeling someone havent imported it yet. Or maybe you havent found this person. They have becoming readily available in Bangkok.
I LOVE YOUR NEW SHADE OF COLOR!! Very sexy and summery!!
Haha thank you. I didnt keep it long though it was only for a short holiday trip
the music was getting very distracting towards the 13-14minute mark:( i know you take and appreciate feedback for your videos! maybe more gentle music for the future? lol
Oh yes I appreciate this!! Noted with thanks
Oh yes the music sounded quite loud… it sounded a lot gentler during editing process. I should pay attention to the audio meter
🧡
Thank you ❤️
Thought those yellow leaves matched your hair color, but they were cut, ouch 😅
Haha yes 🙈 they were not helping the plant much
👏👏👏❤️
🥰🥰
oh wow didnt know billie variegated is difficult to grow big.. no wonder its still expensive 😅
The regular green form is actually quite easy and grows quite fast. To get a beautifully variegated one it takes time and also a lot of luck.
Youre variegated now😂
i think he might have reverted now again hehehe
