Well it is a wild plant, not a cultivar. I much prefer botanical species over cultivars and billetiae and atabapoense are inexpensive for what they are. I hope spiritus sancti drops in price because I can't justify it's cost over an atabapoense.
I like it when Educator Jeff comes out to play. I've been trying to decide which of those to start with ... aka what I can afford ... so this vid helped a lot. Thanks.
Always happy to see you with a new video. I really enjoy your plant room; will you be doing an upstairs tour soon? Every time I watch your videos I discover more plants I need to make my life complete. All I need to make this come true is a conservatory and an inheritance from a long-lost relative…🌴
Just got a Billie 2 weeks ago so this video was perfect timing. Ive had my atabapoense for a few years and i suggest starting it on a taller wire moss pole and keeping it in a larger pot. That things a beast and bullet proof. My leaves exceed 2ft! Great videos. Ty
Had my Billie for 2 years and find it a medium fast grower. It is one of my favorite philodendrons and is very easy to care for. Also use the hefting pot method to see if the plant needs water. Bamboo skewers are my other go-to low-tech water meter.
Philodendron atabapoense is native to Venezuela and Brazil and is found mainly along the Atabapo River, which forms the border between Venezuela and Colombia, and from which it gets its name. Although my theory is that it might come from the area where there is city called Itabapoana in State Rio de Janeiro, and those born in this city are called " Itabapoense".
i just got one at home depot reduced down to $9.95 she was already growing in water i’m gonna share her on my channel if u wanna see her thanks for ur channel it’s very informative
Great video 👍👍 The Billie is definitely one of my favourite plants 🥰 I have been sprinkling diatomaceous earth on top of the potting mix of my plants & I’ve been having wonderful results with keeping all bugs at bay especially with my hoyas.
Jeff, been watching ur channel for awhile. Great plant, so pretty. Question? Do you miss the lipstick plant that was the highlight of your plant shelf previously. Great video .
I'm just getting into house plants. Enjoying your videos and learning a lot. So far I have a snake plant, a jade plant and also have a Billietiae. You mentioned buying plants online. Do you have any preferred sites that you can recommend for Canadians? Maybe doing a video on buying plants online could be an idea for you.
Hey! I am fortunate to have a great local shop (a few actually) and one does shipping across Canada. I have ordered from The Little Big Plant Company, Northshore tropicals (Vancouver), Planthaven Toronto...to name a few
Ugh, I killed mine with semi-hydro, but I think I’m willing to try again. But NOT semi-hydro LOL. Thanks for sharing and helping me rekindle my love for this plant!
Should make a video on the soil mix During summer and winter These 2 are my favourite ones however I really struggle getting high light for these plants, I kind of keep them on the porch where you usually get bright indirect light, but in western India, around Mumbai the humidity is pretty powerful in the 70-80 range, however the temperature goes up to about 30-38'c in summer and in winter it's around 28-35'c. The heat really heats up the pots and I really have to literally water every 3 days to cool the roots. If I take the plant's inside there's a low light issue. Grow lights are a bit pricy and the ones you get cheap are those Chinese pink lights. 😂
I completely understand about the heat because in the summer here...I will have to water my succulents like every couple days, which is so different than the normal indoor care
Helpful comparison at the beginning! Would you say the Billie has shorter internodal spacing than the Atabapoense? And the petiole length looks about the same?
Any special nutrients you use for variegated plants such as the Billy ? My V Billy is popping huge leaves and blasting it with light but I feel the varigation is fading
the one i have was already growing in water so i think she looks good i cleaned her leaves off the best i could but man this plant is gorgeous especially for its pricing
Hi Jeff, Im little confused with billietiaes. Currently I have 4 different specimens, 3 of them I try to grow at home (av temp 18°C - lowest 14°C, highest 25°C, humidity 50-70%, southwest exposure) and they just don't want to grow bigger leaves, my cuttings/bought plants were always solid size but new growths are leggy and leaves are small (less than 10 cm) - this situation going on for 2 years, they receive plenty of light even some direct sun for 3-5 hours a day but only from exposed area. I have another specimen in the greenhouse and It serve no problem, actually came from miniscule cutting, but never backed down in sizing up (av temp 22°C, lowest 18°C highest 37°C humidity 50-80% south exposure with glass roof but double shading layer above and 3 shading layer on the side), That plant probably gets more time with dim light daily but it doesn't see any direct sun, main difference is the temperature and I felt like thats the key but I see you grow your specimen in not really hot environment so I just don't get it
@@EverythingPlants I don't have Instagram lol. Old. I will see if my daughter can help me. I am at hospital working right now. Get off at 11:30 central time. Thank you
Sup brother Jeff😊! Well I have news for you! Besides me joining YT, theres better news 😂. Theyll be coming out with Var billy. Not the past failed ones that revert. These are actually high var billies very stable and should be in canada soon🤗🤘🏽💚

I use the lifting and bamboo skewer method as well. Super easy!

Comparing these two plants.....I would agree about the internodal spacing. Otherwise they look similar
Where’d you get that tshirt?! I’ve been trying to find some like that!
It's from Tropics Narcotics....check out their page!

Hi. Why do you put moss poles on bililietiaes? Are they also climbers? I knew that the Atabapoenses where but not the billietiaes.
Yes, they are! I put it on the pole to get larger leaves!
the one i have was already growing in water so i think she looks good i cleaned her leaves off the best i could but man this plant is gorgeous especially for its pricing
Yes! It's a beautiful variety
Can it stand morning or afternoon direct sunlight?
@@Fabulousfoliage definitely morning direct light is good. Just get a light meter and gauge that kind of light it gets
But where did you get that awesome shirt??
