I have seen v0idwards before in one of Husky's videos, but now he just got a brand new fan - that was an incredibly slick build with beautifully executed force fields and hallucinations. GG indeed!
Holy crap - voidwards is my new idol. Although the first attack by VW failed in terms of bad forcefield placement and awkward haullicainated Colossi, he more than made up for it after he defended the base with 4 photons and then OMG @ the use of forcefields and real colossi. YOU SIR ARE MY HERO!
Wow voidwards was just outstanding here. He played so amazing and countered everything completely! The zerg had no chance! Best game I've seen so far! Thanks HD for uploading all of these.
@MrNeutralized Pause the game at 0:21 secs in part 2. It's after the mid game fight and the Protoss starts to turtle up. He already has a lair and I think his spire may also be done. It will be a whopping 7 minutes before the final battle happens. With 2 expansions, that's more than enough time/resources. Plus, he already knew the protoss had an extremely powerful anti-ground army, but he just kept pumping more ground units.
one of the best replays ive ever seen. these forcefields and hallucination was just so good micro. personally i rarely use the sentry, because they only have like a total of ~80hp and cost 100 gas. most likely take one or two with me so i can get the shield up. but if he hadnt done such a good micro, his sentries would've been toast by now. really nice match. if you guys have more "unregular" matches including new tactics and stuff, i would really enjoy to see more of these.
A friend pointed out to me that he canceled the Colossus upgrade, rather than finish it. You see it re-appearing in the list of available upgrades, indicating it was canceled. Whether or not that was wise is up to question; he couldn't have known that the mutas were going to flee from his sentries
Still can't believe that during that last entire battle voidwards was not only microing really well, but also grabbing the 6 o'clock gold expansion at the same time. Just wow.
Great divide and conquer strategy with the force fields. Artosis couldn't use the majority of his army during the battles. I am very impressed by this Protoss build.
Wow, utterly amazing micro of those force fields and hallucinations! That guy knows his sentries. I could not believe 7:36! Sending the hallucination out to be controlled and then sandwiching those roaches out of range. Possibly my favorite SC2 game thus far.
@Chriscrusty i agree a very exciting game and Voidwards played fantastically, utilising those force fields with extreme accuracy and efficiency. A truly great match.
Forcefield is a great "spell". It allows for creative uses, breaks apart massed armies and because of the different effective ranges of the units it can completely inhibit an enemy force while letting you dish out the hurt at leisure.
OMG. voidwards just had PERFECT micro with the sentry. beautiful play. hallucinations to scout, forcefields perfectly splitting up the zerg army, hallucinations again to bait the corruptors... a well deserved win, for sure.
@ambientdiscord , when you select more than one sentry you can spam the ability using the hotkey, and it will take the energy from a different sentry each time. So if you had five sentries, you could essentially cast five force fields in a row. It only casts one per every time you click the hotkey. So no, they are not all being cast by the same one. The control of your units that you have in SC 2 is so much better than Broodwar and makes it much more effective.
Dayum. That was prolly the best play evar!!! I like that usage of hallucinations and massive force field! Those roaches got sandwiched by those force field and lasers showered over them, man! That was awesome!
@Coolflames101 Especially considering how much of the protoss units were outranging his units, he drew the enemy in then used shields to cut them off. Artosis relied on his sheer numbers way too much.
Wow, some very unusual play by the Protoss player, I really liked the outcome, closing the Roaches in between the fields and frying them all up with the Colossi, very nicely done :)
Wow actually found a good shoutcaster that speaks normally. Love how HD doesn't constantly feel the need to "cast" every little useless detail. Sick of casters who constantly talk just for the hell of it. Nice casting HD.
@SheepRCool17 I have to agree. It's been pointed out too that if he just teched up, he would've had Broodlords. Burrow the roaches/infestors and pop them up on one side while the Broodlords toss their boys on the other side. He obviously had the spire up since we saw mutalisks. Not sure why he just kept going mass roaches. He definitely had the economy to tech switch.
Omg that was crazy. Awesome use of forcefields and hallucination. Love Colossi too. Looking back the zerg player should have went for broodlords think that could have won him the game. Although it takes quite some time to get them up and running.
@Revenge221 retreated and/or getting hydras since their range is a lot, the problem is that artosis went for a roach heavy build and roaches just have 3 range hydras could have easily sniped the sentrys but if we count the range upgrade of the collosi they would have melted (thats why roaches tank hydras) thats the deal he needs something to take care of the collosi since collosi and sentrys "babysit" each other making them very effective
[SPOILER] Best protoss game I've ever seen, insane microing and decent macroing at that, maximum effort from a unit rendered worthless as an high-end offensive unit, every hallucination was crucial for the success of the last surprise attack, the attack was crucial for fooling the infestors. WP, hats off.
Daaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! Amazing awesome epic crazy Hallucination counter at the end! just wow just wow! Subscribed! I suck with SC2 but watching these guys go at it just put a big smile on my face! Man what was awesome!!!
@GoombaDaddy Indeed, some ultra tankage against those colossi would come in MIGHTY handy, also.. not losing mutalisks for no reason tends to keep your army a bit stronger... They were flying over the sentries :/
That was utterly amazing. Sentries might be the best protoss unit yet... It will help so much against Terran as well. Preventing them from running away and dancing. Block them, and slaughter with colossi and zealots. Sentries are so underused!!
This is a really nice game, I like it alot because I love Sentries. I don't use hallucinations much, though, and I admit that I had no idea it can give you scouting info.
@CrXCrXcRx88 I think macro refers to the overall gameplay like map control and expansions whereas sc players uses micro to refer to the minute control of individual units in battle and etc.
I think a key thing to note in this is that Artosis mis managed his troops alot, he only relied on his massive macroing to smash enemy lines. Voidwards was smart in his unit control, he used his units abilities to smash all enemy units. Brute force and sheer numbers can't trump superior strategy and unit control.
@JsouLful When you have all your sentries selected.. you just press the forcefield shortcut then click where you want to cast it..if you do it again, it will cast from the next sentry and so on and so forth
@bertinop this game is from pretty early beta...Lots of things have changed since then. btw all he had to do was build some corruptors instead of all roach (he already had the spire) and those collosus wouldve dropped fast
This has got to be one of the best micros I have ever seen from Protoss. This strategy is more epic than psi storm spamming from the High Templar. Looks to be a lot more effective too.
@MoparDRVR It isn't rigged. The zerg player didn't train burrow that entire game. It would've been much stronger to burrow the roaches, have them crawl under the shields and pop them up again. The heal during burrow would've helped quite a bit, as well.
wow very dominating play from voids. i saw orb use this build very effectively as well although i dont remember him going colossus. btw does sc2 help you cast forcefield walls like that or the player has to do it themselves the old fashioned way? (i heard something about a smart cast feature?)
@barrskog85 he placed them at nearly 6 force fields per second. it takes 3 commands to errect 1-2 forcefields. He placed them at exactly out of range of roaches and within the range of collossi and sentries. This is the best game ive ever seen. Skillz
@IamHopers I don't think he can switch to baneling on time because he doesn't know the protoss is gonna use a weird combo: sentry + Colossus like that, not to mention artonis may not know what the protoss is gonna do with that combo. When he realize it, the protoss army is pushing toward his base, beside artonis has a mass army of Roaches, so switch tech is even more harder and slower.
@danm966 Generally if there is that huge a wall of force fields consistently being thrown at you, back off and find ways to work around it. Artosis should have researched burrow and tunnelling claws, then his infestors and roaches would have had no troubles with mobility. For terran, things like siege tanks or cloaked banshees are good, tanks because their range makes the fields not matter, banshees because they are so agile. For protoss, colossus w/ range, or blink stalkers. Or more sentries xD
Great micro, excellent job. And to those complaining too much about force fields, early hydras could have helped him for their longer range... I think. I'm not sure how to counter a build like this with zergs (would be much easier with terrans). Would it take too long for brood lords? They sure could take care of that, but it's just a really high tier.
Great Game, indeed very interesting to watch great micro/control of units I wonder which unit/tactic combo could be effective vs the sentry's use of forcefield to split the enemy force
@uzernam302 Now you can hold shift then press the spell's key moving your mouse where you want it to be done, if I remember correctly (one of the first HD's videos explains it)
I saw Voidwards in a few games on another channel. SC2GGRise (another SC2 commentator, check it out). It seems Voidwards tends to go for the same build/tactic, with some slight mods. Either colossus like we saw here, or high temps/archons. There is one 2v2 TPvTP he is in on that channel that is absolutely epic.
Protoss micro was ridiculous. That hallucination collosus into the MC was dope as hell. Also, he canceled the upgrade @ 3:19, though I believe he would have made it. It's hard to tell but those mutas weren't so useless =p.
tip for fun: turn on audio captions XD gotta love glitchy captions "like to flirt with that damage to the front" anyway, i always liked SC1 and seeing this SC2 vid brings back memories...very fun to watch match.
yeah that was really pro micromanaging. I gotta start using sentries more often (I mostly only use them for the guardian shields over my stalkers/immortals but now that I know you can wreck shit with mass forcefields and hallucinations I have some practicing to do)
@theyellowflash100500 well, the thing is that sentry were meant to be a support-unit. But at this level they are actually a really really powerfull unit themselves!
I don't think the research for the extended range for collosi finished. If you go see 2:57 the research is suddenly available at the robotics bay which leads me to think he might have cancelled it before it got destroyed.
Utterly chilling skills from the protoss.Absolutely the top replay up to now. This guy deserves a whiskey and a cigar from me.Nice work
This game was absolutely sick. The best display of micro I've seen thus far in SC2. Props to HDstarcraft for the commentary and upload.
I have seen v0idwards before in one of Husky's videos, but now he just got a brand new fan - that was an incredibly slick build with beautifully executed force fields and hallucinations. GG indeed!

Best game I've seen so far!
Thanks HD for uploading all of these.
one of the best micr0 i've seen in a pr0toss player. the force field placements and timing was just t0o good. wow.
Nice to watch a 3 years old game :)
No one stalker, but a lot of scentries...
Amazing!
This was truly a pleasure to watch. I might say, it was my favorite 1v1 battle I've seen. Props.
@MrNeutralized Pause the game at 0:21 secs in part 2. It's after the mid game fight and the Protoss starts to turtle up. He already has a lair and I think his spire may also be done. i really liked that force field at the natural ramp, made a line of trapped roaches, and collosi just made easy work out of those. GG voidwards
This was a pretty classic matchup; I remember watching it over a year ago :)
I saw this several months ago but was in the mood to see it again; this is a class match :-)
Great game! No wonder it's highly rated. The creative deception of the hallucination is rarely seen in these gameplays. Thanks again HD!
can't believe this video is on the main page on youtube.. with 100K + views.. amazing! Keep it up HD!
one of the best replays ive ever seen.
these forcefields and hallucination was just so good micro.
personally i rarely use the sentry, because they only have like a total of ~80hp and cost 100 gas. most likely take one or two with me so i can get the shield up.

really nice match. if you guys have more "unregular" matches including new tactics and stuff, i would really enjoy to see more of these.
wow, that micro with the force field was amazing!!!!
great job voidward (good to know that toss can still kick ass even with those NERFS!!!
A friend pointed out to me that he canceled the Colossus upgrade, rather than finish it.
You see it re-appearing in the list of available upgrades, indicating it was canceled.
Whether or not that was wise is up to question; he couldn't have known that the mutas were going to flee from his sentries
this is the best one I've seen. that colossus and sentry strat was amazing.
hd does a good job of making an otherwise semi unknown match into a pretty exciting one.
Still can't believe that during that last entire battle voidwards was not only microing really well, but also grabbing the 6 o'clock gold expansion at the same time. Just wow.
amazing stuff. More videos like these need to be commentated. Awesome micro is what made that game so fun to watch!
Voidwards is my hero. The forcefield slaughter was awesome and the hallucinatory collosi is nothing short of EPIC.
Great divide and conquer strategy with the force fields. Artosis couldn't use the majority of his army during the battles. I am very impressed by this Protoss build.
that was some of the best protoss play ive ever seen
The mind controlling hallucination was an incredible move for Voidward!
Wow, utterly amazing micro of those force fields and hallucinations! That guy knows his sentries. I could not believe 7:36! Sending the hallucination out to be controlled and then sandwiching those roaches out of range. Possibly my favorite SC2 game thus far.

Fantastic match! Quite possibly my favourite of all the replays I've seen!
Epic! Man, I can't wait for SC2 to come out again. Protoss my favourite race, I loved seeing this.
OMG. voidwards just had PERFECT micro with the sentry. beautiful play. hallucinations to scout, forcefields perfectly splitting up the zerg army, hallucinations again to bait the corruptors...
a well deserved win, for sure.
Amazing play on both sides, but void was just an artist there with the ffields and hallucinations. Awe inspiring tbh.

Man Voidwords owned that. Great use of forcefields, and the mind controlled hallucination, I staretd laughing.

Epic use of Colossi and Sentrys + Forcefields. The Hallucination use was pretty slick too.
Wow, some very unusual play by the Protoss player, I really liked the outcome, closing the Roaches in between the fields and frying them all up with the Colossi, very nicely done :)
That had to be one of the most epic fights I've seen so far...
Wow actually found a good shoutcaster that speaks normally. Love how HD doesn't constantly feel the need to "cast" every little useless detail. Sick of casters who constantly talk just for the hell of it. Nice casting HD.

Rough game for that Zerg player. But he handled it with good spirits. Great sentry-work by the Toss player.
@GoombaDaddy Indeed, some ultra tankage against those colossi would come in MIGHTY handy, also.. not losing mutalisks for no reason tends to keep your army a bit stronger...

Respect for Voidwards. That was a very well played protoss game.
VERY interesting game to watch :) Definitely gonna fiddle around with sentrys more after seeing this.
lol i love watching old games and kinda compare them to todays games. So much have changed
This is a really nice game, I like it alot because I love Sentries. I don't use hallucinations much, though, and I admit that I had no idea it can give you scouting info.
Best of all your videos. Amazing playing by Protoss.
@CrXCrXcRx88 I think macro refers to the overall gameplay like map control and expansions whereas sc players uses micro to refer to the minute control of individual units in battle and etc.
Collosus plus force block are almost invincible! Awesome game!!!
Sentries are excellent, especially with the combo with Collosus. Very nice strategy, very good execution. gg
EPIC use of hallucination showing how valid it can be in high level play.
Excellent game and great video, thanks for uploading! Great example of some strategies to be expected in this game.
This has got to be one of the best micros I have ever seen from Protoss. This strategy is more epic than psi storm spamming from the High Templar. Looks to be a lot more effective too.
I never saw sentry used that effectively. Amazing blocking!!
that was pure brilliance by vOidwards, man he played it well. :)
@MoparDRVR It isn't rigged. The zerg player didn't train burrow that entire game. It would've been much stronger to burrow the roaches, have them crawl under the shields and pop them up again. The heal during burrow would've helped quite a bit, as well.

Love the way how Void use his Sentry
@IamHopers I don't think he can switch to baneling on time because he doesn't know the protoss is gonna use a weird combo: sentry + Colossus like that, not to mention artonis may not know what the protoss is gonna do with that combo. When he realize it, the protoss army is pushing toward his base, beside artonis has a mass army of Roaches, so switch tech is even more harder and slower.
Epic!! Those roaches were practically helpless XD Great vid HD!
@VisTenebrae ya i think they should either decrease the overall size of the field or make it cost like 50 more energy
I'm sure someone has pointed it out, but the exteneded lances were actually cancelled =p
Awesome game and I love that about hallucination now. That is cool that you can pick what you make.
@ElunesNightHunt
ya, i think things might have been different if there was some hydras out in play, because they can out range sentries.
Loved that build!! it is very nice!!
Great Game, indeed very interesting to watch great micro/control of units
I wonder which unit/tactic combo could be effective vs the sentry's use of forcefield to split the enemy force
@uzernam302 Now you can hold shift then press the spell's key moving your mouse where you want it to be done, if I remember correctly (one of the first HD's videos explains it)
Sorry to be negative at all, cause I love the commentaries, but the thermal lance was canceled, it never finished. Feel free to check the the video.

@weaselswithmeasles agreed, but he didnt use full utility roaches had withc was the burrow move ability
tip for fun: turn on audio captions XD gotta love glitchy captions "like to flirt with that damage to the front"
anyway, i always liked SC1 and seeing this SC2 vid brings back memories...very fun to watch match.
I'd like to see more longer games, with thors, collosi and ULTRALISKS.
Excellent, unusually imagianative game of Starcraft.
yeah that was really pro micromanaging. I gotta start using sentries more often (I mostly only use them for the guardian shields over my stalkers/immortals but now that I know you can wreck shit with mass forcefields and hallucinations I have some practicing to do)
great audios man! question: can you increase the brightness/ gamma value ever so slightly? I find the videos just a hinch too dark. thx.
what a good game man!!!
really loved it... u dont get to see manny good protoss players
i never see protoss players use hallucination, and i still wondered why. its so awesome
That's some awesome use of shields, well played indeed!
@TheNeCafe Massive units = crush force fields. In addition, massive units are pretty good against collosi and a little better against sentries.
The best PVZ i ever seen and good use of those sentry
Best play out of Sentries I've seen thus far!!!
@theyellowflash100500 well, the thing is that sentry were meant to be a support-unit. But at this level they are actually a really really powerfull unit themselves!
