I started reading Homestuck around the same time it started to die out. I had a HUGE crush on this really sweet girl at the time who was an incredible artist, and she would often do warm-up doodles of some of her favorite characters. It was her favorite series at the time, and hearing how much inspiration it gave her made me want to read it as well. I had dropped the series after reading through the first two acts because of how difficult school was becoming, but earlier this year, I picked it back up and I'm about halfway through the series. Hearing you guys talk about this fucking disaster of a fandom and what happened with the game is incredible. I've only been in a few """"""""big"""""""" fandoms before, and it always seems to go to shit before too long. Never this far though. I'm sorry for all you long time fans that got duped like this, it was irresponsible of the leaders to use the money the way they did and to have so much trust in people that should have been dead giveaway scammers. If you ever wanna talk about the story or whatever other fandoms you're in, I'm always open, you two are great and I love hearing you rant about dumb shit. Please talk about how ugly Steven Universe is too, my god, I thought I was the only one who hated it

Hussie definitely bears a lot of the blame for this, but honestly if I was trying to develop a game and Odd Gentlemen did the shit to me that they did to Hussie, I'd probably just kms
Considering how much Hussie likes to mess with his fans in the comic, with all the bait and switches, it's almost obvious in retrospect that this stuff would have happened, remember all of problem sleuth? or all the bullshit stuff the characters had to do in Homestuck? Seems Hussie isn't capable of making things without some kind of bullshit, either weird puzzle bullshit, weird time bullshit, or weird crowdfunding bullshit.

But honestly if I'm suicidal enough to get into Homestuck where do I start? I've heard its REALLY REALLY LONG.
You could probably start from page one and just go up until [S] Cascade at the end of Act 5. Then pretend the comic was cancelled
The star wars prequels are half of the entire series screen time. You hate most of the movies, so I don't think it's fair to call yourself a fan. (Obviously this isn't as mathematically accurate now with Ep7 and Rogue One, but you get the sentiment)

Don't know why, but this logic pisses me of enough to respond.
Being a fan of something is nothing you have to earn and caring if some stranger is a real fan is pretty sad.
It's not like he has to mention that he's only a fan of the first 5 acts immediately, that stuff happens during conversation.
Even if you're autistic enough to set up rules for being a true fan your idea is stupid.
I have no idea about this webcomic, but i'm pretty sure he didn't "hate" most of it, because if a later chapter does take a direction you don't like it doesn't mean every aspect suddenly went to shit and it destroyed nothing before.

I would say start at the beginning and stop reading once the off-model fanart starts getting included in to the comic. Everything past that is just "I'm bored with this everyone is fucking now."
There's lots of genuinely hilarious and good shit in Homestuck, just... I think Hussie genuinely resented his fanbase for making him famous.
I don't even know what to say anymore, hiveswap is like an internet myth at this point.

I didn't exceptionally enjoy undertale yet I will be buying HiveSwap, when the door fucking opens goddammit all. I do not really see the things AH did to be exactly horrible to backers, he got burned over and over for being inexperienced AND lost his father around the time TOG fucked him. To me it just seems understandable why he didn't want to constantly share bad news after bad news when that was all he could tell people. In the end he finished homestuck unlike the majority of online webcomics that get abandoned, so I had no doubt they will release the game, no idea when, but it will happen. The fact that he went out of his way for years to get the game out, without letting it be a huge pile of turd/shit, rather than drop it and run with what was left(cough actual worst kickstarters cough).
To this day, I love the comic (though my opinion on the ending is... mixed), I love the music, I think Hussie's hilarious... but I cannot stand the goddamn fans. Why. *Why*. It really is a shame what happened with the original Hiveswap developer and all though. Seems like a lot of shit went down in the background that tied everyone and everything up for a while.
Everybody involved bit off way more than they could chew without realizing what they were getting into and everybody ends up paying for it in the end - literally and figuratively. It's a shame, but, it's a lesson in humility and for any few projects I guess. Hussie was always the type to do things in extremes (I mean 7 updates daily for years is insane, even with Homestuck's intentionally simplistic art style, never mind all his con activity and social media activity before the fandom drove him off), so it isn't surprising? But alas.
The only saving grace now would be if Hiveswap actually turned out to be legitimately good. It will never be completely worth the wait or weight of the bullshit that happened around it, but if it's good, then at least it'll be somewhat vindicated.

I became a fan of homestuck literally one week before it ended and after hearing about the hiveswap stuff I'm kinda glad because I didn't have to witness this whole drama with hiveswap and having to go months without updates to the game or comic.Although it is kinda sad knowing I'm apart of a dead fandom that not many people are apart of anymore

Oh god, I remember when I got harassed by a bunch of people on Instagram and TikTok for “whitestuck”. I drew a picture of the beta kids, I drew them as white people without really thinking about it. all but one of my comments on the post were just “whitestuck lmao”, “WHERE IS THEIR MELANIN 😭”, “brb gonna go headcanon the whole world as white” (all actual comments I remember). Someone on TikTok even recolored my art to make John and Jade Asian, and Dave and Rose Black (I have no problems with those headcanons, I just think the recolor was disrespectful).
I get that there is racism in the world. I get that there is even racism in some parts of homestuck. But can we please not harass someone for something as small as drawing homestuck characters as white people? I don’t draw the kids white anymore. I depict John, Jade, Jane and Jake as black, and the Strilondes as Asian. But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with drawing them white, either. Being honest, most of us in this fandom are white people. Let’s not play the white savior.
(Btw, I checked the accounts of the people harassing me for whitestuck. They were all white lmfao)

Can we comment on the fact that it's already August and there's no guarantee that the game is going to be released before the end of the year? I mean, if you have a track record of not delivering when you're expected to, you probably shouldn't promise the game like a year before its actual release date with only the flimsy excuse of it "needed to be tested". Especially considering that the backers were supposed to be able to do that.

Hussie never should've worked on Hiveswap until he finished the series and was serious about this project and was gonna engage with it from beginning to end. When you rely on other people that you don't really know about on a whim, you get fucked over.
At first, I felt bad because I didn't donate to Homestuck. Now I'm thankful I didn't waste my money.
Some things I kind of liked about Homestuck. But there was a lot of shit I didn't like or didn't give a shit about either way. I liked SBURB. It seemed like an interesting concept, but there wasn't a lot of focus on that (relatively speaking) and I really was kind of miffed about that. I wanted to know more about how the different classpects worked, and other things because there's a lot of stuff that happens off screen...or off panel? Because that could have made an interesting game. Obviously it wouldn't be just like Homestuck but could you imagine all the possibilities? Maybe add multiple possible endings and stuff. Make an ending where you manage to somehow prevent the Reckoning or something. When they make the universe frog thing, two doors appear, offering them the option to enter the new universe and go back home to go about their lives. Maybe make an ending where different weird shit happens. I dunno. This is the first time I thought about homestuck in quite some time. I'm not looking forward to Hiveswap. Glad I didn't put money into this.
I still really enjoy homestuck, I think I got in right as hiveswap was being put on kickstarter. I don't think I'm one of the cancerous fans. I mainly just cosplay but I don't harass my friends who don't read it. I'm honestly excited for hiveswap and I'm definatly going to buy it after it's released on steam.

Yeaaaaah. Andrew Hussie: Decent at best comic maker, HORRIBLE AS FUCKING HELL game and kickstarter designer. Also, been around for HS for a LONG WHILE, and yeah, even I can't defend a lot of this stuff. And this is even after the comic has actually ended.

Are you familiar with the animation term "Off-Model"? Originally a technique used to tell jokes in old looney tune/tex avery type cartoons, EVERY character in steven universe is consistently off model, as in, steven will change height and shape from frame to frame, despite being a relatively simple solid line design
Personal opinion here, but part of what could be considered "bad artstyle" is the simple lines and minimalist direction to character design that has basically become the default to cartoon characters as of late (star vs the forces of evil, gravity falls, gumball, steven universe, etc) that gives most character profile shots a bland, flat style. Again, though, personal opinion

I remember when this kickstarter was going on. One of my friends bought the like 300$ packages (or around that level) and a few others payed around 50-100$. I'm glad I didn't back this.
I didn’t get into Homestuck or MLP until after the “cancer” of the fandom was past. I enjoyed both of these, but I might NOT have had I gotten into them when the fandom was at its peak.

I really do like homestuck, I think the story and the jokes and stuff are charming and cute but the fandom really ruins it for a lot of people, but there aren't many fandoms you can't say that about.
The fandom has never been a problem to me. In fact, I think the fandom is super nice, I like to think of it like a family
