The reason why Yu Gi Oh got popular in the first place was it was easy to pick up. My tiny 7 year old brain was able to play it without a problem back in school. You literally do basic math and just follow the instructions written on the cards. That's it. Master Duels just feels.. out of touch.
Last game of Yugioh I played dude kept summoning monsters and swapping them for stronger monsters for 2 minutes straight he started at 1200 atk and ended his turn with 3 monsters all at 4000+ atk and the only card I had in my deck was a monster with 800 atk points.
Thanks to 5Ds, I love synchros, also the anime. Once that ended and Zexal and XYZ came in, I lost interest. Came back to YGO around ARC V/Pendulum summon was around but coming to an end before VRAINS and Link summoning would come in. I like Link summoning. But I'm still rocking Synchros till I die.
I watched 5Ds and loved synchros, once Zexal came around with XYZ, I lost all interest and left, now I come back and try playing again and there's Pendulum and Link summons, and I just get annihilated 1St turn.

definitely feeling the same way i stopped playing around xyz and got back in with masterduel and honestly it wasn't at all difficult for me to get back into the swing of it, already completed my dragonmaid deck and galaxy/photon deck without having to search up premade decks so pretty proud of that👌🏾

Synchros and XYZs aren't that bad. It's Pendelums that took up 3 Paragraphs per card that ruined the game. Couldn't get back when Links were introduced. Whole new board and half the cards in my deck were now banned

Honestly, if you really want to get back into the game, Duelingbook might be a better place for you to start in getting familiar with the cards and the new rules before you go into Master Duel where everything is automated and on a faster play.
I mean HEROES are ok for the most part in the current meta game so yeah he'd be fine not gonna lie. Then again they expensive AF but hey you gotta crack a few eggs sometimes.
Hero is spread out across like 3 secret packs, it is way too hard to build for a doodoo ass nostalgia deck. They have zero protection so it's really easy to board clear or interrupt, sadly.
Also the speed duels from gx became its own style but not entirely the same from the gx Nintendo DS games,also skill cards exist;I can legit use Maximilian Pegasus in a duel
