    I once again enjoyed your video. Back in the 1980's I owned a Gunnison &Griswold revolver that was imported by navy arms out of Ridgefield N.J. That gun was in .44 cal. It was a good shooter. I was new into black powder back then and truly loved that pistol. I got it on a trade for some barbell plates, those days are over I believe. My current pistol is a 3rd model colt dragoon, that is why I am looking forward for you to do a video on one.

    I would like to see some cronno testing with the remington 1858. Different bullets and powder charge please. I dont have a cronno to test it out and I would like to see what all bullet options are good for accuracy and best speed.
    I would like to cast my own bullets for it at some point and would like some direction for a good bullet powder load.

    Surprised at how much more velocity you got by simply adding 3 grains of powder. Looks like there’s hardly any recoil with either load.

    Videos like these help as I do not have a chronograph yet. I find it more fun to use (and accidentally shoot) my friend's chrono instead.

    Is that the same type of revolver used by Anson Mounts character on Hell on Wheels? I just remember it being said he carries a Griswold, either way, great episode.

    Have you ever seen a cross between the G&G and the navy? I picked up a navy brass frame, but it reminds me a lot of the confederate gun, with an octagonal barrel.

    • @BogeyTheBear
      @BogeyTheBear 3 роки тому

      Yes, Pietta makes a popular choice for a first-timer's gun with their brass 1851 Navys as they are easy to shoot and inexpensive.

    Just bought my son one for Christmas but I have a question. I've seen 20 grains used on navy revolvers so are the grains being used her because of the brass frame?

  • @kennethhowell1272
    @kennethhowell1272 3 роки тому +2

    Just curious do you have issues with your G&G cylinder bolt becoming loose after many loadings ? Found it to be a great gun except that.

    • @GunsOfTheWest
      @GunsOfTheWest  3 роки тому +2

      I haven’t had any trouble with it. I keep the loads pretty light though.

    • @HircineDaWolf
      @HircineDaWolf 3 роки тому

      @@GunsOfTheWest should do us a favor and buy another brass frame and torture test it with higher loads for us lol. Dixie has brass frame navys for like 180 last I checked.

    • @HircineDaWolf
      @HircineDaWolf 3 роки тому

      @@GunsOfTheWest many complain about the brass getting beat up by the cylinder slamming back from recoil but I have yet to see it on mine. I think the brass frames made in the last decade are stronger than those prior and obviously back in the late 1800s.

  • @BlackPowderGeek
    @BlackPowderGeek 3 роки тому

    Can you tell us more about the load? Are you using a wad, or anything to fill empty space? Or just seating the ball on the powder and bang? For that matter does 18 grain and a ball leave any dead space in a .36? (I am more use to shooting a .44)

    • @GunsOfTheWest
      @GunsOfTheWest  3 роки тому

      These loads are just powder and ball. I generally recommend using lube, but I can’t when I use the chronograph because it confuses the sensors.
