Yes, you might say that it was a little difficult to use horns and strings and a dozen other instruments with a five piece band. So, of course this was mostly studio musicians but it felt like something we wanted to do and it was the first time I played along with Tommy Tedesco with my acoustic while he played his electric fender. Much fun.
This is Great, has a real "Goovy" feel to it, similar to tunes I used to hear on the radio during my childhood at that time, wonderful memories 💎 Auckland New Zealand 2024
I used to listen to this wondeful piece regularly on UA-cam about 10 years ago. Hadn't listened to it for a few years & thought I'd listen again, how hard it was to find it! When you put in "Avengers Theme/Marketts A Touch of Velvet a Sting of Brass" you get dozens of suggestions of some moronic American superhero crap for five year olds!
I think you misunderstand my comment. I meant the music from the Monkees TV show was recorded by many of the same musicians who played on the studio versions of the Marketts' songs...but I should not have said the Mar-kets (the touring group) formed after. In fact, they did come before, but the touring band was not necessarily the talent who recorded the versions on your 45's.
As a 20-ish yearl old American, I was born too late to have seen them air this on non-subscription TV (regular TV). But after watching some episodes on UA-cam, it has EASILY become one of my favorite TV shows of all time. And this theme... there is absolutely nothing like it on the air now..... except for maybe the slightly updated/slightly butchered. Hawaii 5-0 theme (2010).
An open letter to robertgift: This music doesn't suck, YOU suck. I grew up watching 'The Avengers' and I've heard a lot of variations of the original intro-and this is the coolest of ALL of them, INCLUDING the original. You don't like it, don't listen to it-but when you feel the need to knock something just because it's not the version YOU like...well, that's when you can go soak your head.
@Pauluk33 Hi, I just found this page. Didn't know this song was on here. Only took me two years to find it. Do you still run a radio show? I would love for you to run something like this on UA-cam with all the great songs the Routers and The Marketts recorded. Thanks for posting. I posted about a dozen of their songs. Best regards, Michael Z. Gordon
Not like the Monkees at all. The Monkees were cast from actors who could sing specifically to produce a TV SitCom. The Marketts were studio musicians who played together and were eventually recruited to form a touring band. Big difference, HUGE.

Great tribute to a great series!
Pretty good cover version! Had no idea the Marketts did this!

This is the version based on the Linda Thorsen/Tara King final season theme, not the Diana Rigg/Emma Peel years theme.

Brilliant
Very interesting rendition!
people not in the know always ask whats the difference between the marketts and the ventures? i always reply-the marketts had a horn section.
cooooooooooooool :)
@jenks1937 I'll say... That was when musical themes for tv shows really were in their own... Not like some in the here and now...
I wonder what Mrs Peel would think of it?
Way cool...gotta admit I prefer the Leslie Johnson version, but this is as good as it gets...thank you
Uh...You do mean Laurie Johnson right?
