Just heard the news today about Diana Rigg's passing....as a child in the 60's loved the show Avengers even though I didn't always understand what was going on....I especially love that theme song.....Mrs. Peel was beautiful, Rest In Peace Diana 😔
Laurie Johnson, an Englishman, composed the Avengers Theme. He was also a bandleader. One of the best TV themes ever. I can listen to this all day long and not tire of it.

Found this out when SUNY OSWEGO Public Radio played old transcriptions of old time radio programs, back over 20 years ago.

my opinion, the best theme music of any t.v. production, with that deep deep double beat bass, like a heart beat... combined with these classic b/w stills of Patrick and Diana makes this absolutely unforgettable and that this program at its height in the late 60's early 70's still resonates with many many people fortunate to be old enough to have seen this weekly, when it was first broadcast, is truly a time treasure for us all, who 'were there'.... Diana, you were Amazing.. and that you had a designer/supplier not only for your wardrobe for also just for your shoes, well....

It started with Dr David Keel avenging the death of his wife, meeting this rough and tumble guy in a trench coat called John Steed. From there it was remade and became what we know and love through three original eras with the characters Cathy Gale, Emma Peel and Tara King. And the later New Avengers with Perdey and Gambit. The Steed was constant.
I have made this my ring-tone! Works great. Started watching all seasons again, tarting with season 1 ep 1. Black and white and lousy sound. LOL. I could not wait for season 4, when Emma came onto the set, finally making this series a success. Unfortunately season 4 is also in blk/wht , even tho season 3 was already colour....Scratching my head about that one. I even paid Amazon Prime, so I could see those episodes without ads. I still feel like a child, when I watch these movies now, even though, I am twice (and more) Emma's age (movie age). She was my first crush and embodied everything that I was looking for in a woman, later on in life.
1960s Britain was a great decade for music film and drama. Beautiful girls in mini skirts and Emma Peel to look forward to. Alexandria Bastedo and Anouska Hempel come to mind. Lysette Anthony was another favourite love object of mine a few decades on.
It would be nearly 25 years when I would look forward to a show that not only was entertaining with it's sub-rosa information but would have the sexual tension of it's characters and that would be the X-Files. The Avengers however started it.
From what I've heard, ABC (the American TV network) actually refused to air the "Queen of Sin" episode when the series was first shown back in the '60s. Similarly, NBC rejected the first Star Trek pilot because (among other things) it featured "erotic" green-skinned dancing slave girls. What prudes we were back then....
The Avengers is currently running on Great TV (Freeview 50) Tara King has just joined the team after the departure of Emma Peel. The character Mother has also appeared.
@robertgift Actually if you watch enough episodes, they were rather creative and unlike other spy programs of the same era. I.E. Mission: Impossible, Get Smart or Man From UNCLE. Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg did the hell out of it though.

Even that bassy riff > "bum bum, boot doot doot doot doodle loo" would've been perfect for their style of re-voicing !! if I had ahold of AI programming, I'd whip it up myself !
At the end credits, the only time I have ever seen a female star have a listing for who provided her SHOES. All that leather.... oh my..... what a babe...
