I see you are using the NISI True color filter, Do you or anybody know where to get a replacement of the little screw that attaches to the filter? Mine comes loose all the time and I am sure it might get lost someday... They should include an extra one but they do not. Love the filter but the little handle to turn the filter is quite flimsy.
@@sleepycatgamer I have had many and these are by far the best in my opinion, No color shift and NO X patterns. I use Genustech for years because I found them to also have very little color shift. But NISI's are worth every penny. I will eventually get their VND matte Box system soon..
@@JevenDovey Yes indeed, I have almost lost it a couple of times, I wish it was a little sturdier bc when I stick my camera in my bag with the filter on, the little stick also rest against either the bottom of my bag or the side and could bend easier I am afraid. Only complaint I have with it @nisi
Just curious what strength Blooming or Mist filter you were using bc it seemed pretty dominate in most of the shots.. Looks to be at least 1/4 and maybe even 1/2 some times..?
@@JevenDovey Yes, I figure it was about a 1/4. I personally do not go over 1/8 and if needed can add more in post. Otherwise I find it almost distracting sometimes or if I want to use the footage in the future with out the "trendy" softening there is no going back.. Davinci has a pretty good realistic blooming filter.. Nice video by the way, Thanks
I agree. It's a bit distracting and gives me a super humid feeling. Otherwise very informative I put something in my bag from this video. Good content 👌🏽
Of course I love the information part of the video as always but the beauty behind the lens that was being filmed was absolutely amazing. Gods love is so amazing. Thanks for sharing that footage. 🥰
hello, Can you help me with one thing, if i film without a picture profile in my Sony what DRO settings do you recommend? DRO off? Bro Auto? DRO 5? thank you so much for your help
when i upload my A1 footage to my phone with imaging edge, it wont play unless I download a certain app and even then it runs really rough. how can i get a video i can text someone using the A1?
What are your thoughts between the A7IV and A7CII? I currently have an A7IV and need a second camera. I love the compactness of the A7CII for travel and everyday shooting, but I worry about the single card slot and possible overheating when compared to the A7IV. Please let me know your thoughts!
Interesting about trusting Auto Iso. On FX3 I use a variable ND but it's not easy to "ride" during an outdoor documentary-type shoot, especially with radical changes in cloud cover. I'm using Flexible Cine usually at 800 ISO. You're actually the first person I've seen recommending that. Perhaps you should do a quick explanation about using Auto ISO in those circumstances.
I know it goes against what everyone else says but when I’m running though a village with a few seconds to grab a shot before it’s gone I trust my auto iso. Maybe I’ll make a video on that next
@@JevenDovey A video on that would be great and apparently unique. As a ENG run & gun doc style shooter I've had radical shifts in cloud cover going from complete shade to glaring sun, ruin shots. It's impossible to set up for because if you start shooting in shade you can't at all anticipate how bright it will get and trying to ride a VND is difficult. I'd rather risk a little bit of noise than blowing out most of the shot. This is another reason why Cine EI can be problematic in such situations.
No I keep mine on manual. If I'm outdoors I set it to daylight and if I'm indoors or mixed lighting I'll find what looks best and lock it in until there is a major color shift. Better to make small adjustments to color in post with a consistent look across the entire scene vs having the auto white balance jump around and trying to fix it.
I think cameras with LOG profiles are usually at a higher price point. Would it be possible to show how to use good settings for 8 bit video and get cinematic shots?
Same thing just replace log with a different profile. If you have to use a standard profile thats fine but you'll need to watch your highlights and make sure you're exposing not too bright and not too dark
Different because RAW and JPEG are different formats that give you more flexibility for editing. However SLOG3 and S-CINETONE can be recorded in the same format but whats different is the contrast and saturation. in SLOG 3 your highlights and shadows are pulled to the middle so you can get more dynamic range when color grading. S-Cinetone has automatic contrast applied so if your image over exposes you can't recover it. If you overexpose if Slog3 you cant recover it either however there is less chance you'll overexpose cause you're shooting in a flat profile
I don't think that a wide open aperture (especially 1.4 or even 2.8) looks all that great except in some situations. Why completely blur the back ground if the the scenery is nice looking? To me f4 looks good but 1.4 or 2.8 looks too blurry most of the time.
Everyone has their own style. For when I want something to feel cinematic I like using 1.4 but there’s way more that goes into the shot besides a aperture choice.
I agree I think it is a bit simplistic and untrue to say only shallow f1.4 shots look cinematic. In fact most "cinematic" films rarely shoot that shallow except for certain shots. Cinematic is much more then shallow depth of field
Which camera are you filming with?
SONY A7M3
Sony a7IV
*FX30 with My First Cinema Lens the SLR Magic 12mm f2.8*
Sony A7Siii
Actually my a7iii but I want to upgrade It with a7IV due to the Unlimited (I know about the hot 4k60 issue) video ricording mode
I’ve been a pro photographer for 15 years who recently added video work to my resume, your videos have been super helpful
Just got my first "real" camera, A6700. So, basically I'm binge-watching your channel lol Thank you for all you do!
Fantastic video. Lots of great advice. I’m using an FX3.
starting with a baptism! love it!!!!!
Beautiful footage Jeven! 👏 I got the Sony FX30 in December for my first camera and I love Cine EI

Are these as good as they say?
I actually haven’t lost mine yet. I’m surprised 😮. I would reach out to them directly. If it’s not available to buy then they’ll probably send you one
Yes they are good. Here’s my videos showing their color accuracy ua-cam.com/video/O-RM1KieQo4/v-deo.htmlsi=OS-_TKo4s5muVVFZ

What fps are you shooting on in the documentary clips? Are you shooting on 60fps and then slowing down the footage?
very helpful. i shoot 4k 24fps and shutter at 1/50 but still seems a little jittery frames even on my gimbal (a6600)
Jeven, this was awesome. The baptisms were powerful and the kids were beautiful. When I grow up I want to be you 😂.

Where can i see the doc
Its coming out next week
Great tips and advice. Do you also use the histogram ?

How you set your Whitebalance on run&gun shooting? Auto WB?

do you use zebra values for exposure settings?
Great video again ! Do you shoot in 60 frames very much for slow motion?
Yes I use 60 for most slow motion and then 120 when I need something extra dreamy.
Great video. I have a simple Sony RX 100 VII point and shoot. Do you know which picture profile most approximates S-Log 3?
PP9 is SLOG3
Great I’ll give it a shot. Thank you

Is there a difference in between SLog3 and S-Cinetone?
