I just shared this with a young guitarist. "Let me introduce you to David Lindley, the "salt" on the fries of music." From Kaleidoscope to the Uke Festival, any imaginable instrument, any culture--he understood the music like no one other musician. We were blessed to hear his perfect notes, tone, whimsied perfection. Thanks Mr. Lindley!
David Lindley is a legend and his music is sensational..singing triumphs...what a voice to flow out to the song and is so humble..A great entertainer and every performance is perfection as only David can..terrific sound
This song reaches me. He passed on 3/3/23 same day as a friend and musician that I worked with for years did. You don't know how much you value someone till they're gone
Fabulous and thank you for sharing. The connection between Lindley/Zevon/Browne is the source of a lot of my musical satisfaction (hey, boomer, born in 1950). But aside from his musical virtuosity , to me, DL is known for is his sartorial expression and I would love to have a copy of this shirt!!!
Well if it does get any better than this I'm yet to see it. Thanks for uploading. Part of me wants to rip all these Lindley performances off UA-cam so they never get lost.
I'm pretty sure that David Lindley was in love with cool tones coming out of an instrument. Go to 4:40 in and pay attention about 4:45 at what he does with the slide and how it changes the character of the notes he's been playing. You listen to the various elements of this song... the fact that he chose to cover it, the instrument he chose, how he chose to attack it, how he thought he could make that instrument even more interesting than it is in its natural state of being played... David Roos in his Comment below nailed it: " ...David Lindley, the "salt" on the fries of music." We are damned lucky to have had Mr. Lindley among us for as long as we did and for the kind of spirit he displayed as he lived his life.
Even at the risk of sounding like a weeping slit, this song always makes me cry. This version is almost fucking perfect. Get me some whiskey and fresh Kleenex, I'm gonna need it. And probably some Sodom to listen to, to do pull-ups and trade my self-hate & sadness for hatred for all else.
@@hayleyglyphs , that's a Warren Zevon quote, of course....for others here who might not know. Life turned out to be shorter than Warren had expected, and so this was his parting advice.
Can anyone say the name of the instrument played here? This is only the second David Lindley video I've seen. I feel pretty ignorant for having not discovered him until this late in my life. Anyway - absolutely brilliant, absolutely perfect.
I'm not sure of the instrument because he has several that are unique. I have at least 4 maybe 5 more videos from this show. You can find them here on my profile or just search for David Lindley Milwaukee.
It’s a Weissenborn Hawaiian guitar, probably from the 20’s, or a remake of one. Lindley is the guy who brought them back into greater public awareness many years ago. He is a rare musician, one of my heroes.

Rest In Peace among the other giants David and thank you
Mr. Lindley is gone, but we'll keep his smile with us, thank you.
David thanks for the decades of great music. Perhaps you're joining Warren now "Beneath the Vast Indifference of Heaven."

So perfectly beautiful. All other commentary is superfluous. The best interpretation of our predicament.
Love the call back to air conditioner hum during the solo.
I have listened to this at least 20 times and I am just getting started. This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.
I was thrilled to be there to capture this video. I sure miss him.
Prompted me to learn this song and other Zevon songs . Now I make them mine .
This is perhaps the best 8 minutes and 54 seconds of music I have ever heard.
It was a joy to be there to shoot this video. I sure miss him.
What a treasure you will always be .. Feel the love and glow brother. Much love
God Bless Mr Dave. RIP 3.3.23, 78 years. Thank you so much. 😢♥️ 🎸
He was well beyond amazing and will be sorely missed.

I was thinking the same! Really must save them. ✌️♥️✨
My husband was his tour manager for 8 years. David’s death has been a terrible thing for us and especially for his family and friends 😢

Who in the name of all that is good could have downvoted this
It's a kindly old fella playing a song delivered from On High Above into Warren mother****ing Zevon's brain, if you hate this you are a misanthrope
ghost of WZ ;)
r.i.p. maestro
It's a very sad day.
Rest In Peace My Brother 😢

Thank you, thank you. I've been watching them all. Thank you so much for taking the time to put them up so that others can enjoy them.
Loll Cat I'm glad you're enjoying them. More than half of the fun is sharing them with others.
hawaiian style steel guitar?
