+Joey Dollar Thank you, and good luck. You can use the graphing styles accessed at the far left of the Y= menu by moving the cursor all the way to the left from Y1 (or any other Y= equation), and pressing enter. You can shade below the graph for =, etc.
They should really teach people how to use this stuff in school, because that's when you get a graphing calculator and really the main time you need one
When I try to graph 2 equations on the same graph, an error message pops up saying TRANSFORMATUON GRAPHING Only 1 function and up to 3 plots will graph. Press GRAPH. However, my 2 functions are perfectly normal functions like the ones you put on the example and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong
Using Ti-84 Plus C Silver Edition: I entered the 3 equations on Y= screen and graphed them all at once, then entered Transformations Graphing app. Pressed Graph button - it graphed only one line as expected. Then I quit Transformation Graphing (double-checked that it is not running). Pressing Graph still plots only one of the 3 equations. Then I "edit" the second equation by replacing X with X. Pressing Graph now plots only 2 equations. Then I "edit" the third equation by replacing X with X. Pressing Graph now plots all 3 equations! Now, I start and quit Transformation again. Only one graph plots again. I add one more equation. Now only two equations plot - the first and the one I just entered! After I "edit" the remaining equations one after another (replacing X with X) they plot as well - as soon as the equation was "edited" its plot appears on Graph. Therefore, starting and quitting Transformation Graphing app somehow leaves the calculator in undesirable state that requires user to manually "edit" or "re-enter" all the equations except one before they can be plotted. This appears to be a bug - either in the operating system or in the Transformation Graphing app. Does it behave the same on TI-84 Plus CE?
+My Run TV They probably stay deselected after Transformation Graphing ran. Did you try moving the cursor to the = symbol between Y1 (or Y2 or Y3) and the equation, and hitting [ENTER] to make sure it's white on a black background? When they weren't graphing, was the equals sign black on white or white on black? You can disable and enable equations by toggling that.
after I went to Y= and confirmed that I was in function mode, entered the X to have Y=X and hit graph, I got the blue slanting line. You hit trace and got a flashing curser, but when I hit trace, I got no flashing curser. what do I need to check? this is a new calculator and I don't think that I did anything to it.
So when I’m graphing a function I don’t see a line graphed onto the line. I cleared my ram. Still doesn’t work. I typeed in y= 2/5x+20. It doesn’t show up. No line.
Hi! I think you might have a problem with the minimums and maximums of the graph. The default only goes from x=-10 to x=10 on the x axis, and y=-10 to y=10 on the y axis. You would need to click "Window" on your calculator, and change the "Xmin", "Xmax", "Ymin", and "Ymax" values. Let me know if this helps!
KermMartian: Like your video. Maybe you can help me troubleshoot my student's issue. When trying to type in y=4x^7+5x^4+2 to graph, everything is staying in the exponent mode after the 7, even after hitting the right arrow and retrying. We even cleared RAM. Thoughts? It's either the TI-84 CE or CE Plus.
Hitting the right arrow after the 7 should indeed do the trick to exit the exponent entry mode - you'll see that the cursor changes from a small superscripted box to a larger box. If it still won't work, you could also try going to [MODE] and switching from MathPrint to Classic mode, which will allow you to enter the equation in a simpler form (no fancy exponents).
Hey Christopher! Thanks for the TI 84 vids. Just getting to know my new 84 Plus CE. I want to do a problem in Pre-calc 12 where you graph the speed of sound which is 20 times (the square root of T, for temp in Celcius, + 273). I need to change Xmin to -285 and Ymax to 400, but I get an error message when attempting to change Xmin from -10 to -285. Can you help?
+Armando Weiss Make sure you're using the negative symbol (the [( - )] key) and not the subtraction symbol (the [ - ] key). Check out Part 1 of this series if you need a refresher on things like that. :)
I enjoyed your video. Thank you for uploading. Do you know if there is a way to graph X=2y-y^2 for example (really anything as a function of y)? Thanks again!
help please, I am just trying to do the first exercise, graphing. When I go to Y1 and put in X and toggle over one space, and press graph the message I get is the "error:window range" . Is there a setting incorrect on my calculator? Thanks
"Tree" years? :P Yeah, the math features of the TI-83/TI-83+/TI-84+ series have changed very little over the past twenty years or so, mostly due to teacher feedback that there aren't very many extra features that would enhance the pedagogic value of the calculators.

Capri Sun Thanks, and good luck! Do check out "Using the TI-84 Plus" as a possible reference book, and feel free to stop by the Cemetech forum (www.cemetech.net/forum) if you have any questions.
Anyway to reduce padding around the graph? I feel like the big display and high res is not taken advantage of. I realize there needs to be room for coordinate labels etc, but, either way, it does bother me slightly.
+LyyK Unfortunately, no, you can only graph within the 265x165-pixel area due to limitations from the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition that were brought forward to the TI-84 Plus CE.
Yes: you can either just swap X and Y in your equation, graph it, and interpret the dependent Y values as X values, or you could rearrange the equation from x=f(y) to y=g(x).
Hi, it’s the same person as three days ago. I’m new to the calculator and keep on doing something wrong that ends up breaking it. My calculator isn’t letting me graph anything with a negative sign in the front of the equation. To clarify, it won’t let me graph y= -2x for example. How do I fix that?
I know this is an old video but I really need help in fixing my calculator. I was trying to clear all lists in my calculator but now I am unable to graph anything. How do I fix it?
Four years ago is hardly old! Go to [Y=], use the arrows to move the cursor to the top of the screen, and deselect Plot1, Plot2, and/or Plot3. See 8:10 in this video for more info.
Any idea of how I change and use less than equal to, greater than equal to? On the 84 plus ce? I want to use these symbols when graphing but I am unable to find these symbols. I moved left from the y= button and cycle thru the signs but they never pop up. Any suggestions??
Apologies for the slow response. You'll need to install Inequality Graphing (Inequalz) from TI in order to get those symbols in the Y= menu. If you have it in the App menu, run it to enable it; otherwise, you'll need to download it from education.ti.com .
+EvoZims Yes, but not completely automatically. For example, to compute the period, you need to use the [2nd][TRACE] (Calc) -> Zero tool to find the x-coordinate of two x-intercepts, then subtract one from the other. For the amplitude (is that what you meant by asymptote?) you can use the Calc -> max tool.
OK, the flashing curser finally showed up after I entered the graph for Y2 = X Squared +3X+1 and hit graph to place the parabola into the graph. I got all three flashing cursers now. Not sure what the deal was with just the sloped line.
For some reason when i press enter to find intersections like the one You had for example, it shows up "Only one function and up to three plots will graph. press graph" What do I do? nothing works.
Brittany Peters check the Window settings - the graph and/or the axes might be off screen. if in doubt, go to Zoom and choose Zoom Standard. you can also turn the axes on and off in Format (2nd, Zoom).
KermMartian okay thank you, that worked. The x min/max & the y min/max were so small that the graph wasn't showing up, but it works now. Thanks again also for the informative video 👍🏾

Hey man, I was really bummed out to see that there's no game compatibility on the CE yet. Do you have an estimate of when Doors CSE will be compatible with this? Still amazing how this is possible, though!
MrFluffyson Thanks! Unfortunately, we're still waiting on news from TI about changes that should make a Doors CSE for the TI-84 Plus CE possible. If you stop by Cemetech or subscribe to me on UA-cam, you'll get notified once we have more information.
www.ticalc.org/pub/84pluscse/basic/games/ Only some of them are CE compatible, download TIConnectCE, and link your calculator to the computer. Select your games and transfer them to your calculator.
You can clear the graphed equations by going to [Y=] and hitting [CLEAR] on each line. You can clear the graphscreen itself with ClrDraw. Go to [GRAPH], then [2nd][PRGM] (the Draw menu) and select ClrDraw.
I have this calculator now too and every single time I try to graph more than one function it says " Transformation graphing- Only one function and up to three plots will graph. Press graph" and then I press graph and it only graphs the first function...
+Carlee Koldyke click apps and at the bottom it says transfrm, click that and it should ask if u want to quit transformation graphing, quit it and bam you are good
+David Radtke Make sure the that equals sign (=) next to the graph is white on a black background, which means enabled. If it's not, move the cursor to it, and press [ENTER]. It will change from black-on-white to white-on-black. You can also disable graphed functions the same way.
+KermMartian okay i made sure both y1 and y2 were enabled and now when i press the graph button it says in a pop up window in the header of the window "transformation graphing" and in the body of the pop up window "only one function and up to three plots will graph. Press GRAPH."
+Eliel Rios +Sam Godsey Indeed. There's no such thing as graphing an intersection, but you can use the tools in the Calculate menu ([2nd][TRACE]) to find the intersection point of two functions.
No, actually I was wondering if the manual/book comes with a warranty in case I accidentally put it in the washing machine or set it on fire leaving it on the stove or something; because I wouldn't want to pay twice. I want to have the manual for a quick reference from time to time, but I don't want to have to constantly replace it (out of my own pocket) when accidents happen.
Haha, I'm glad you found what you were looking for. For future reference, the authoritative source of information is TI's own website: see "Support" in the "Specifications" tab: education.ti.com/84ce
With the built-in operating system, your best option is to enter the equation as Y1=f(X), then on the homework, use [2nd][PRGM] (Draw) -> DrawInv Y1 (Y1 is in the [VARS] menu) to draw the equation inverted. If you want something a little less hacky, you can use TI's Inequalz app.
It's in the bottom row, the one that looks like [(-)]. Take a look at the Part 1: Basic Math video of this series; it explains various basic keyboard and math skills like that. Good luck!
If you're just trying to set a variable, use the store ([STO>]) key in the lower-left of the keypad. For example, [3][STO>][XT0n] will produce 3->X, which will store 3 to X. If you're trying to compute the value of a function at a point, though, you'll want to do something like Y1(3).
Apologies for the slow response. You can control the domain: on OS 5.3 and later, you can explicitly set the domain minimum and maximum; before OS 5.3, you can do this via something like: Y1=f(X)/(X>=domain_min and X= and "and" can be found in [2nd][MATH].
OPERATION:crazy You have Inequalz (TI's inequality graphing application) installed. Go to [Y=], find the text that says "QUIT" on the screen, use the arrows to move the flashing box there, and hit enter.
+Fred Lt You probably have TI's Transformation Graphing app enabled. Go to Y=, look for "QUIT APP" at the top-right corner, move the cursor there, and hit [ENTER].
ClrDraw (from the [2nd][PRGM] (Draw) menu) will clear any annotations on the graph but leave the graphed functions there. If you also want to get rid of the functions, go to [Y=] and hit [CLEAR] on each line that has a function defined.
You guys may be using the wrong X. Don't use the green (alpha) or blue (2nd) variables. When in the y=, you'll be using the button that says "X,T,0n". Just press it once for the X to show up in your equation.
PRICE OF WHAT? :) The book is about $17 - $25 depending on where you get it ( www.amazon.com/dp/1617293156 ), and the calculators generally run around $100-$120.
Do you mean the the graphed function table, from [2nd][GRAPH]? If the function has a decimal domain or range, it will show them. If you want to adjust the spacing of the X values in the table, go to TblSet ([2nd][WINDOW]) and change deltaTbl (the little triangle followed by Tbl) to a different number.
I have the ti-84 plus and I'm trying to graph an exponential graph. Every time I put in the exponential equation and graph it, it shows a linear graph. How do I fix this?
Surely you mean P(x)? As written, P(t) is a constant, which would explain the straight line you're seeing. If you're in rectangular mode, try entering that equation as Y1=18000*0.988^X.
Sorry for the confusion, that's what I meant. I tried typing in that equation to graph it, it ended up being a straight line instead of a curve. I'm pretty sure some setting is messed up, but I'm not sure which one it is.
Are you definitely in Rectangular mode if you check [MODE] (or in Y=, is the first line Y1=)? What is your Window (in the [WINDOW] key)? Note of course that that line is going to appear very close to linear, since it's close to c*1^x but isn't. I recommend you adjust the window to something that will have wide X bounds but narrow Y bounds to accentuate the curvature.
Press the [ZOOM] button, and choose ZStandard. If after you do that you still get an error like ERR:DIM, or ERR:UNDEFINED when you press [GRAPH], then review the troubleshooting part at the end of the video (starting around 8:00) where I talk about turning the Stats Plots off.
That fixed it thanks! Love to buy your book But I am a single dad doing it all myself going through school and being raped by textbook cost for class's thank you so much
I finally fixed my calculator after my calc was stuck on stats plots. You helped a lot and I thank you. Ready to Ace my Pre-Calc class because of you!

You can clear the graphed equations by going to [Y=] and hitting [CLEAR] on each line. You can clear the graphscreen itself with ClrDraw. Go to [GRAPH], then [2nd][PRGM] (the Draw menu) and select ClrDraw.
Thank you, I have just started back to school ( at 59) our video helped me understand the basics.
Good for you! I'm glad to have helped.
I have this calculator now too and every single time I try to graph more than one function it says " Transformation graphing- Only one function and up to three plots will graph. Press graph" and then I press graph and it only graphs the first function...
+Nick Salerno I figured it out
How did you fix it?
+Carlee Koldyke click apps and at the bottom it says transfrm, click that and it should ask if u want to quit transformation graphing, quit it and bam you are good
+Nick Salerno Thank you! 😊
when i hit graph it tells me error:invalid dimension:( how do i fix this
I had this problem too! Just deselect "Plot 1" at the top so non of the plots are selected :) Hope I could help!
ratalie TYYY!!!
@@natalieschoenn oh my god thank you
My calculator doesn't graph anything...
Edit: Nevermind, just fixed it a few minutes later just by clearing RAM.
Glad you were able to fix it!
Thank you so much for this!
You're welcome!
Why does the calculator say invalid dimension whenever I try to graph something. Even when I tried to graph just x it said that.
You have a Stats Plot enabled. If you watch through to the end of this video (or read the book), it explains how to fix that.
Thanks this is very helpful!
You're welcome; good luck with your calculator.
thx this helped me so much
Mine just shows a dot when I press graph
when i entered the x^2+3x+1 and hit graph it only graphed the y=x line. how do i get it to graph both lines?
+David Radtke Make sure the that equals sign (=) next to the graph is white on a black background, which means enabled. If it's not, move the cursor to it, and press [ENTER]. It will change from black-on-white to white-on-black. You can also disable graphed functions the same way.
+KermMartian okay i made sure both y1 and y2 were enabled and now when i press the graph button it says in a pop up window in the header of the window "transformation graphing" and in the body of the pop up window "only one function and up to three plots will graph. Press GRAPH."
+David Radtke Aha, you enabled the Transformation Graphing app. When you're in the Y= menu, move the cursor to "QUIT-APP" and hit [ENTER].
+KermMartian nevermind i figured it out :)
Very helpful video 👍
This is so helpful ty
How would you graph an intersection
Idk if u can, but u can graph the functions, then trace for the intersection point.
+Eliel Rios +Sam Godsey Indeed. There's no such thing as graphing an intersection, but you can use the tools in the Calculate menu ([2nd][TRACE]) to find the intersection point of two functions.
Does it come with a warranty?
If you mean the calculators, they do come with a warranty. Why?
No, actually I was wondering if the manual/book comes with a warranty in case I accidentally put it in the washing machine or set it on fire leaving it on the stove or something; because I wouldn't want to pay twice. I want to have the manual for a quick reference from time to time, but I don't want to have to constantly replace it (out of my own pocket) when accidents happen.
Haha, I'm glad you found what you were looking for. For future reference, the authoritative source of information is TI's own website: see "Support" in the "Specifications" tab: education.ti.com/84ce
:D Thankyou, I just purchased one so I will probably be coming back to your videos from time to time, thank you for the videos.
I'm glad to hear it, and I'm happy to help. Please also consider getting the "Using the TI-84 Plus" book as a reference guide. :)
How do I graph in terms of X?
With the built-in operating system, your best option is to enter the equation as Y1=f(X), then on the homework, use [2nd][PRGM] (Draw) -> DrawInv Y1 (Y1 is in the [VARS] menu) to draw the equation inverted. If you want something a little less hacky, you can use TI's Inequalz app.
where is the negative symbol on the calculator get back to me when you can, Thanks!
It's in the bottom row, the one that looks like [(-)]. Take a look at the Part 1: Basic Math video of this series; it explains various basic keyboard and math skills like that. Good luck!
Yup thanks I thought it was a little symbol above one of the keys thanks
Lol thank you!!
when all else fails... follow the directions :)
why mine is not working when i pressed the "graph" button :( Please help :(
james callego What happens when you press [GRAPH]? What is in your Y1=?
we have the same calculator the TI-84 plus CE .. I followed what you did, but when I pressed the graph button it say's "INVALID DIMENSION". :'(
james callego Near the end of the video, I offer some troubleshooting tips, as well as how to fix the ERR: INVALID DIMENSION error. Hope that helps!
HOW CAN I PUT X=3 (for example)?
If you're just trying to set a variable, use the store ([STO>]) key in the lower-left of the keypad. For example, [3][STO>][XT0n] will produce 3->X, which will store 3 to X. If you're trying to compute the value of a function at a point, though, you'll want to do something like Y1(3).
KermMartian My intention is to see the graph of the function x =3. However, when i try to write the function i can only see y1 = etc.
KermMartian NO SOLUTIONS? 😭
Not sure what you mean by no solutions!
Thank you!!
Does anyone have have any idea how to enter domain and range restrictions on graphs?
Apologies for the slow response. You can control the domain: on OS 5.3 and later, you can explicitly set the domain minimum and maximum; before OS 5.3, you can do this via something like: Y1=f(X)/(X>=domain_min and X= and "and" can be found in [2nd][MATH].
My calculator says that it can only graph one function at once help!
OPERATION:crazy You have Inequalz (TI's inequality graphing application) installed. Go to [Y=], find the text that says "QUIT" on the screen, use the arrows to move the flashing box there, and hit enter.
Thanks, I ended up fixing it!
Please help! Whenever I click graph it tells me ERROR: Invalid dimension
Please continue to the Troubleshooting portion of this very same video that discusses how to fix that! :)
Elaina I had the same problem. Press y= and then deselect plot 1 plot 2 and plot 3. It solved my problem
Please feel free to watch the rest of this video, which explains exactly how to fix this.
Elaina same
Airbus Boeing Merrey thanks this nigga was about to make me watch the whole damn video
Why can't I graph more than 1 graph? Some body help me please
+Fred Lt You probably have TI's Transformation Graphing app enabled. Go to Y=, look for "QUIT APP" at the top-right corner, move the cursor there, and hit [ENTER].
Thanks, wonderful
how to calculate subtract percentage from whole name with a ti-84 plus ce
218,000 - 40%
help
You could do, for example, 218000*(1-0.40), where 40% == 0.40.
how do you clear a graph?
ClrDraw (from the [2nd][PRGM] (Draw) menu) will clear any annotations on the graph but leave the graphed functions there. If you also want to get rid of the functions, go to [Y=] and hit [CLEAR] on each line that has a function defined.
Nice Expo
Cuando termine la clase voy a quemar esta calculadora
When i put x it wouldn't graph
The same thing happened to me
You guys may be using the wrong X. Don't use the green (alpha) or blue (2nd) variables. When in the y=, you'll be using the button that says "X,T,0n". Just press it once for the X to show up in your equation.
Really helpful thanks
It says Invalid dimension------
+daisy Scovens Please see the "Troubleshooting" section at the end of the video.
PRICE
PRICE OF WHAT? :) The book is about $17 - $25 depending on where you get it ( www.amazon.com/dp/1617293156 ), and the calculators generally run around $100-$120.
nice
graphes pic graphes parts preexpaling funcations setting deapth
Hiw do I get decimals on my table
Do you mean the the graphed function table, from [2nd][GRAPH]? If the function has a decimal domain or range, it will show them. If you want to adjust the spacing of the X values in the table, go to TblSet ([2nd][WINDOW]) and change deltaTbl (the little triangle followed by Tbl) to a different number.
KermMartian K thx
Nvm
His instructions are far to fast!
Put the play back speed to 0.75x
You can always rewind, or just read the relevant chapter in the book. ;)
I'm in the weird part of UA-cam again.
I'm sure you can find weirder videos than math education videos.
Mike Williams yeah search for deadly twister
Mike Williams When you go to sleep watching youtube and you wake up and end up on this
I have the ti-84 plus and I'm trying to graph an exponential graph. Every time I put in the exponential equation and graph it, it shows a linear graph. How do I fix this?
What is the equation you're trying to graph?
The equation is P(t)= 18,000× 0.988^x
I recommend you adjust the window to something that will have wide X bounds but narrow Y bounds to accentuate the curvature.
when I try to graph it goes to error screen. says check values in window??? what do I do?
It may sound obvious, but press [WINDOW] and make sure that the values there make sense.
i mess with the windows now i cant graph anymore what do i do?
Press the [ZOOM] button, and choose ZStandard. If after you do that you still get an error like ERR:DIM, or ERR:UNDEFINED when you press [GRAPH], then review the troubleshooting part at the end of the video (starting around 8:00) where I talk about turning the Stats Plots off.
That fixed it thanks! Love to buy your book
But I am a single dad doing it all myself going through school
and being raped by textbook cost for class's thank you so much
