      I’ll add onto this, I get flashbacks from the words “Zero, freeze” and many more. I can’t even remember when my first name was brought up besides letters. It’s actually kinda mind boggling when you get home (I think, haven’t gone home yet) because you just snap to reality and realize people call you by your first name. You forget how the food taste, and you most importantly forgot how truly cared you were

    I remember the bus ride to San Diego... I was tired and I fell asleep. I woke up to the drill instructor on the bus screaming something and I reacted with randomly saying “NO SIR!” Not sure why. Turns out, he was saying, “the only words that will come out of your mouth are no sir, yes sir, and aye aye sir. Do you understand?” First night was not my best night.

      @@behindyou6427 im not sure of the specific details but basically you get taken to a hotel where they feed u and u get your own room for a few days. This is because they take you to a nearby facility where they give you a physical before you leave. After that you return to the hotel until they take you on the bus straight to san diego. This is how i understood it from my recruiter but i may be off i still dont leave for a couple months

    I see these young men every day. It's interesting to watch the various stages of their development. I've seen them newly arrived with a palpable fear in their eyes, and uncoordinated movements. I've seen then when they look longingly out of a window, probably missing mom or a girlfriend, and a kind word. I've seen them drilling and enduring the extreme physical demands placed on them under a hot summer sun or in the depths of a swim tank. Then, as if emerging from a cocoon, they take on the persona of a fine, disciplined Marine. They have my respect and admiration.

He's the fittest I've ever seen him, and that was before boot camp, but I have no doubt he's going to be challenged.

      Henry Liu that's not a good way to look at it. Luckily I went in 2003 so there was plenty of war for everyone. If you join the Marines if a war does kick off you will go first. There are a lot of opportunities, I went on float for 9 months; it was awesome (ended up in Iraq). Then I got deployed to Iraq 2 other times. I got out as a Sgt, now I make 100k a year as a cop. The Marine Corps opens up a lot of doors and you can call yourself a Marine for the rest of your life.

      Stephen 1982 I understand that and I thank you for your service but my brother says its not really worth it during peacetime. I understand your experience differs greatly from that of my brother but I would rather not be stuck on base 24/7. Being deployed to a base like Oki or going on a MEU is different.
      My brother is one of the best Marines in his company but his First Sgt is a dick, his senior lcpls are dicks, etc. Hes superceded other Marines by obtaining various additional billets and being the one asked to teach other Marines cqc or how to rappel. And hes just a Machine gunner. Despite all that he gets treated like shit with shit pay.

      Just set a date for it in the future and then spend all your time up until then getting yourself physically prepared and learning as much before you go as you can. Running and lifting alone (if you don't already do that) will get you out of your comfort zone and help you embrace the suck.
      For example, I'm going to sign the dotted line on the first week of September and I'm spending the day today (my 22nd birthday) running and studying for the ASVAB. Comfort is all a mindset man. Hope it all works out for you.

      My recommendation is to talk to a recruiter, don't sign anything, get a copy of the daily 7 and pract.
      Daily 7 are seven exercises the Marines do daily, hence, daily 7.
      Don't bulk up muscle is weight, Marines are, Lean and Mean.
      Pract is short for "Practical Knowledge"
      Don't show up at a recruiter and expect to be in Boot Camp the next day, it can take up to three months to find an opening, one goes out, one goes in, kind of like a packed night club.

    I think there needs to be a better way to mark the targets. I remember in one rifle qual they marked the target one way, then they wrote it down on their sheet as something else. They need to figure out a more infallible way to score the shooters. Like maybe some sort of way to pull the targets back to the shooters themselves and have official score takers at the shooting line. As everyone who's ever pulled targets knows, whats being marked in the pit isn't always marked as what the shooters actually shot. Sometimes, we even helped them a little. Something as important as a Marines rifle score should be scored with more accuracy as it helps to determine a Marines cutting score which helps them to get promoted.

    This is brilliant I found it very informative. I way favor the Marines over even the best of the other branches of the military, but one thing that needs to be done better for everyone is several, really. Pay them a whole lot more money. Take better care of them and make sure they stay healthy. Stop sending them on suicide missions. Have them go to the schools in their areas and teach the kids about survival training. So much could be done if the world were a better place. Our country needs to get on its feet, but we're over halfway there anyway and we'll pull through this dark period.

    Not gonna lie...I'm pissed that they are letting Marines use Acogs at the range. Every Marine should have to qualify with iron sights.

    • @TheComoletti
      @TheComoletti 6 років тому +33

      I just graduated bct In the army and I qualified with iron sights. Got expert marksmanship. That's something I was proud of. But my pt score is something I wasn't so proud of. I'm still fat.

    • @hml3672

      Yeah, marksmanship training should be with iron sights.

    • @PJDietsch
      @PJDietsch 6 років тому +22

      Why should they qual with iron sights if they are going to use acogs in the fleet. It makes no sense to train on something you will never use after boot camp. I qualified with iron sights and they told me to never use Kentucky windage, but once I hit the fleet they told me the opposite once we started using acogs. They said, "When your under fire you won't have the time to adjust your sights because of the wind." I can't remember who told me this, but one of my NCO's told me something along the lines of "It was better to train for how it is in real life combat, so once you get there it will be muscle memory." Anyway, I know this won't change everyones minds because Marines are people that are sometimes stuck in their traditions, and I won't lie, it is because we have traditions that I joined the Marine Corps in the first place. But, when it comes to something that could potentially save a Marines life, I think we need to take a step back and think, "Is this really the most effective way to train recruits for real life combat." Which ultimately is probably why they made the change in the first place.
      Peace out ya'll!

    I pass by this base on the bus all the time when i go donate plasma, and start over thinking, what if there was ever a draft, what would i do, how could i escape it, watching these videos gives me nightmares of the suffering they have to go through here, the trauma of boot camp, the breakdowns, it terrifies me, i pray to god a draft doesnt happen in my lifetime, i dont think id make it to even get on that bus, i dont know how someone could have the balls to voulunteer to do this, but i respect them for the suffering they will face. Id be worse than a private pyle in boot camp, afraid and crying, thinking about suicide most likely, joining the military is one of the greatest fears i have, even more so than my fear of puking
