    I am running one in the front of my jk with 35’s it made some clicking and an occasional bang in the first few hundred miles now it only will click if I am dead lock on the steering wheel. Love my locker! Haven’t needed my winch 1 time since I installed it.

      There is about a 600 mile break in period where you can experience a few unusual noises from the locker. It's typically nothing to be concerned about. Glad to hear you love your locker!

    Just found this video. I'm looking at getting a Torq locker for the front of my JL Willys. Since I have the LSD rear, I think the Torq front would be a nice upgrade to factory.

      Nice! If I had a manual JL could I get away with front and rear Aussie lockers by coasting through corners with the clutch pushed in or is a front lock a better idea? AZ off-roading style. 33’s since it’s a 2 door, maybe, maaaybe 35’s some day.

    Thinking of getting a torq locker instead and see if it makes a difference

      Many things external to the locker can cause the locker to be louder in one vehicle vs another vehicle. That's why we shot this video in a stock jeep. After we lifted this jeep and changed wheel offset the clicking in 2wd went away completely.

    According to product description.. Full Time 4WD can not be used with a mechanical locker. What is the reason behind this? I would love to install this locker but I have Full time 4WD on my Sahara, I understand I would lose this feature if I install the locker.

    • @TorqMastersIndustries
      @TorqMastersIndustries  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for reaching out. Full time transfer cases are torque sensing, they divert torque to the front or rear axle as needed for slippage. An automatic locker feels like slipping to this type of transfer case. Unfortunately if you install automatic lockers in a full time 4wd vehicle it will be undriveable. If you have 2WD and 4Hi/4Low you can install a locker and not use the Full Time 4WD feature at all. You would use 4Hi as needed in the winter.

    So guys took my Jeep out this past weekend I encountered an issue that I’m yet to figure out. About 5 mins into my off roading I came out off a mud hole and my locker began to ratchet repeatedly even when driving strait so I decided to head back to the road once on the road I got up to about 35 and I experienced a loud bang and the ratcheting stopped while driving strait. So I finished the day out with out issue and confirmed that the locker was working. Ever hear of this?

      To add to the above I came home rechecked all clearances and they are good it’s like the thing was jammed up or something. It was a loud knocking every rotation of the tire. Then bang it stopped. Didn’t leave me with a confidant feeling the rest of the day I was worried

    I'm considering adding lockers to my Jl after experiencing some slipping in the snow and this seems to be affordable . how Good will this do in the snow ?

    • @corajokinen253
      @corajokinen253 4 роки тому +2

      HI Rickey
      Thanks for the questions. I'll start with the easy stuff - no the locker won't wear your tires quicker.
      2WD daily driving you won't notice the front locker, it will drive and feel just like stock.
      We don't recommend driving at excessive speed on the roads in snow and ice for general safety reasons, for any vehicle with or without a locker. There is a little bit of a learning curve with lockers, and we always suggest getting it out in a parking lot or safe area first to help get the feel for how the vehicle handles. Every situation is unique based on the vehicle, its wheelbase, it's overall weight, quality and tread of the tires and above all, the driver skill level.
      Here's a funny first hand view of snowy, icy driving from one of our dealers in Canada. He has front and rear Aussie Lockers and is driving in 4WD.
      ua-cam.com/video/NsCSYwWH25c/v-deo.html
      There are a lot of web wheelers out there that say horrible things about automatic lockers, but likely none of them have ever driven in the snow with this style of locker. I typically say don't drive over 45 mph in 4WD with a front locker, but at that speed or faster you really don't need 4WD. Around town to get bread and milk before a nor-easter in 6" of snow, 4WD is just fine. A rear locker does great in the snow, the added traction makes 4WD less necessary.

    Any idea on why it ratchets while in 2wd? Are there plans to release one that doesn't make any noise in 2wd?

    • @TorqMastersIndustries
      @TorqMastersIndustries  6 років тому +7

      Hi Matt, The locker only ratchets on super tight slow turns, you kind of have to try to make it ratchet to actually hear it. To us and many of our customers it's not a big deal, but we want you to be aware the locker can click and you may hear it once and a while. When our JL was stock I heard the locker maybe once a day while running errands and making multiple stops around town. Once we put on larger, wider tires and offset wheels we don't hear it anymore. This video was shot with completely stock JL, except for the front axle TORQ Locker. The weight of the vehicle and the fact that 1 axle (drivers side) is always spinning in the differential (no lock out hubs), contributes to the clicking. The previous model Wrangler, the JK, also heard some clicking in 2wd when making super tight, slow turns. A side note, you don't need lock out hubs to run a front mechanical locker.... and to answer your last question, any mechanical locker will make some clicking in the front of a JL (when other brands release a locker for this differential). To make a non-clicking locker you would need to install a Selectable Locker which would be about $1,000 or more more with install. Our business model has always been to provide the highest quality, made in the USA, super reliable, easy to install, affordable lockers.

      @@TorqMastersIndustries Thanks...Do you think the larger tires/offset wheels simply drown out the occasional click due to louder tire noise or stop the clicking altogether? Secondly, what wheels/larger tires did you go to? Thanks again!

      @@Strizzle81 scrub radius is different when you widen the vehicle, and it helps with the occasional click. We are running 35" Milestar Patagonia tires (and love them on and offroad), with 3.75" offset Raceline Monster Beadlock Wheels.

      That's funny! You are 100% Correct - we started at East View Mall in Victor, then headed south to Naples for some dirt roads! Just an update on the locker - we've lifted the JL 2.5", added 35" tires on slightly offset wheels and we no longer hear any clicking in 2wd in tight turns.

      Haha yes I was sure that was Eastview Mall, Victor DD, and also Naples by all the windmills. Was in Naples two weeks ago after looking at a new JL! What rear traction device are you running? The stock LSD? I’m ordering a 2019 sport and trying decide if I want buy a open M220 and do a rear locker, or just get the Trac-Lok. After I commented I saw the updates to the Jeep on FB. How are you liking the Clayton? I’m torn between them, Rock Krawler and Metal Cloak. Are the Monster bead-locks the 8.5” wide with 4.75” back spacing? Knew I would be wanting a front locker for the JL and you seem be the only other option outside of ARB for the front. Love how local you guys are, maybe I’ll see the Jeep around.

    • @TorqMastersIndustries
      @TorqMastersIndustries  5 років тому +1

      @@91lrrrc Great questions. We have the track lok rear in our JL, we won't be making a rear locker because of the traction control system - they don't like mechanical lockers. For us, mild lift, 35" tires, TORQ Locker in the front, Track Lok in the rear - this is about as far as we are going to build the JL. We have a buggy and a build LJ for the really hard stuff. We run Clayton on everything we can, they are the best in the business in our opinion. You are correct on the Racelines. We don't really need bead locks, but we do go out into very remote places so it's a nice piece of mind. You will probably see us around, please make sure to wave!!!

    Is it better to install it in the front?

    • @TorqMastersIndustries
      @TorqMastersIndustries  5 років тому

      We currently only have a TORQ Locker for the front axle of the new Jeep Wrangler JL.
      For older Jeeps we have Aussie Lockers, TORQ Lockers for front and rear applications.
      As to which one is better, Front or Rear Locker, that's kind of like the chicken before the egg conversation, there's lots of opinions out there, here's ours:
      A front Aussie Locker in a Jeep will still drive like stock in 2wd, and will operate normally in 4wd. Gives you that added boost when off-road. With a front Locker use caution in 4wd on icy road conditions. Reduce Speeds! Just takes practice to understand how a locked differential reacts.
      Rear Aussie locker, the more throttle applied, the more it locks up. For a vehicle that sees more off-road use than on, this is what I prefer. There is a slight learning curve for newer drivers with manual transmissions, but it's super easy. A rear locker is fine for Daily Driver use. It will make an audible ratchet noise when negotiating tight turns, but that can be lessened with a thick diff cover and heavy weight gear oil. A rear locker will get you further in most scenarios than front only in our opinion.

    • @TorqMastersIndustries

      @@WranglerAddiction we are not likely to develop a rear locker for the JL due to their traction control systems. In the 2012 and newer JK's, with Automatic Transmissions, you can't run a rear automatic locker, the vehicle goes into limp mode. However, it's not an issue with Manual Transmissions or front axle applications, for either transmission types.
