Thanks again Tom. The app is primative compared to the Telsa app but hopefully BYD are motivated to make improvements and add features. The Tesla app has been many years in the making, so it does feel like we are the early adopters for BYD.
I'm getting the same 2016 chills i.e when I first got my Model S 😁
Yep the Tesla original engineers seem to have made their killing and moved on, from my experience, particularly over the last couple of years of going nowhere. I don’t think the Chinese will take things for granted.
Hi Tom, fellow Sydneysider here. Great channel. I've been watching all your BYD vids. Love the channel name too. I'm happy to see another Mel Brooks fan out there 😂
Thanks! Ever car needs a national anthem 😁
Wayne & Shuster too
I saw one of these on the road today for the first time, stunning looking vehicle aesthetically
👌
Great video and useful information. I would like to know if its possible to schedule the AC timer before I switch off the car (without using the app)?
Hmm good question … not that I’ve seen
Best channel for electric cars hands downs. Specifically for all features lovers nerds 😅
Aww thanks man!
Thanks for this. I agree with your final comments. There really is only a handful of functions I use on the Tesla app. Any other non-Tesla app would do if I can control the AC, lock/unlock, and view the car's location and basic stats.
As cool as the Tesla app is, I’m trying to be realistic with what I actually use day to day
Thanks for the large amount of Seal ownership content you have provided in such a short time.
Do the headlights stay on when activating the A/C via the app? Can the lights be turn turned off remotley or prevented from activating?
Pleasure! I’ll have to explore this further because there are “stay on” headlight settings but not sure if they apply to AC pre-conditioning
Hi. Thoroughly enjoyed your videos while waiting for my Seal to be delivered. Just received my Premium and am totally confused on the radio features. There is Nothing in the manual. Just trying to simply access my favourite stations and display on screen. Thanks
Hmm I’ll be honest and say that I use Apple CarPlay and setup TuneIn with my favourite radio stations
Stupid question I’m sure, but can you set the car to charge at certain times? We are switching to a great AGL plan with cheap charging midnight to 6am, but wondering if we will need to just use a wireless plug adapter to program it or can the car do this through the app? Charging from a normal power socket with included charger. Cheers in advance!
You can schedule the start/stop charge time from the car’s infotainment screen. Watch from 12 min 30s of my walkthrough: BYD Seal Infotainment System Walkthrough and Instrument Cluster Screen
ua-cam.com/video/mXxxVmETNdw/v-deo.html
Hey, my BYD Seal Performance Tyre Pressures came at 50 psi for all the tyres, is it okay?
Firstly have to say, the detailed manner in which you show all the features!! Just hats off!!
I know you mentioned that car is a personal choice, but if I were to request you to be in my position i.e. in the market for our first EV knowing what you know now between Tesla and BYD, where would you be spending your money?
Pleasure! It depends. If this was my one and only car and I need to drive out of town and I had no other car (EV or ICE) to fall back on, then I would buy a Tesla purely for the Supercharger network
@@LudicrousFeed Thanks di much for the guidance! We will still have an ICE car and the EV will be for daily usage. I know the new Model 3 has those weird stalkless indicators and BYD has its own little quirks, but what you say makes lot of sense.... Grateful 🙏🙌
Looks good. Does the app use MFA?
No MFA that I can see
Hi would love to hear your thoughts on if this would make a good ride share vehicle as I drive around 250 to 350 km a day around Sydney.
If I was doing ride share I’d get the Dynamic variant if this is the size of vehicle you’re looking at. You obviously want to minimise your capital outlay and from what I can see you won’t get any more $ for your rides by driving around a Premium over a Dynamic
Can you control your charging remotely? Schedule it on and also schedule departures, so not only have your charge completed, but also precondition your cabin. Another handy feature over BYD app, remote PIN to drive and valet activation.
No doubt the Tesla app has a lot more features thanks for fantastic feedback from owners over the years ... I recall the days when I first took ownership of my Model S in 2016 when the app wasn't as well featured as it is now!
@LudicrousFeed remote charging controls would definitely be a winner. Let's see how well BYD have architected and integrated their HV with their LV systems.
Tom, one bug that you wouldn't necessarily be aware of is that the range remaining in the app is incorrect for the Performance model, when the car is turned off. In this case, the car shows the range that would be remaining if it were the Premium model. It seems the app calculates a default range based on the Premium model and SOC. For example, 100% SOC shows a range of 580km, not the correct 530km range. However, the app shows the correct remaining range when the car is turned on.
Thanks! I think I've been trained over the years to ignore the 'guess-o-meter' of most of the EVs I drive, Tesla included 😁
It's a nice ballpark figure but even then sometimes ... as you know the only number that matter is real world efficiency kWh/100km or Wh/km
@@LudicrousFeed What you say is very true. But the app in this case jumps suddenly from the guesstimate for the Premium range to the guestimate for the Performance range, as soon as the car is turned on.
Hi Tom, wondering if and how I could use the electric battery in the car to run my home at night and charge it from my home solar in the day?
I'm going to investigate this in 2024 ... one of my sponsors Wallbox has a V2X capable charger I believe ...
One basic but important feature that is missing is an indication of the current locked state of the car. You can't tell if the car is locked or not via the app. Please let me know of I've missed this on the app, but this is something I check quite often with my Telsa, when I am out.
Yup agreed, I like to sometimes see if the mirrors are folded or not in the Tesla app 😁
Regardless of the lack of 'locked' status, presume we can just press the lock function to lock the car just to be doubly sure?
When you start the air con using the app the lights flash, the mirrors pop out but the door handles stay embedded.
I guess from a distance you can be sure the car has started but it seems strange to flag that the car is running yet unattended.
So the app does not provide anything related to charging? Or has there been any upgrades since the release of the video?
When you plug in, it gives you charging stats. There have been some other minor improvements which I’ll document in a future vid.
Tesla model 3 rwd vs byd seal premium or even dynamic?
I'll do my best to cover as much as I can!
Another good video Tom. The app needs some refinements. Ability to choose seat memory, some sort of GPS tracking, delete the need to enter password to turn on aircon. They could make an already terrific car a lot better with some software refinement 👍
Agreed 💯
The test will be how responsive BYD software engineers are to owner feedback
Tesla has spoilt us with their app. But at least other manufacturers have a benchmark to compare themselves to, so they have no excuses.
@@LudicrousFeed Atto 3 version 1.7 software update finally delivered the option to turn off the daytime running lights DRL. So it can do something more similar to Tesla camp mode whereas previously the Front DRL remained on during any charging or whenever the vehicle was on. Main point to the story is the DRL function could be switched off in other markets but took absolute ages to get it removed here as one story goes that BYD were concerned about affecting ANCAP rating.
@@feintline That’s great, we have progress!
Boy I wonder who they have been copying ? ... Thanks Tom, I can see why you got the seal
If you can’t beat em right? Or maybe they can lol
Does the car need to be connected to the charger to use the heating or cooling while stationary?
No it’s got a BYD blade battery to provide power for these functions
Can the app be used as a key like with Tesla, so it locks automatically when you walk away and unlocks when you walk up to your car ?
Not as yet in Australia but I hear that in other markets eg. Brazil your phone can be used as a digital key
I found the location is very accurate but it just starts zoomed way out. If you zoom in it will show you where the car is located quite well
I don’t doubt the GPS location but it needs to be usable data
@@LudicrousFeed completely weird it would start at at 10,000 km in the air. Perhaps v2 will adjust that
Thanks for your videos. Super helpful and easy to watch too
Do all your settings save to your driver login?
No driver profiles for BYD in Aus at present
thanks for the nice video, I got my seal on 16th Dec 2023 in Brisbane, but the app doesn't work still. It shows a red cross on signal icon and the last update time is 12/07, it won't change even drag the screen down. Have tried a few times to restart the system by long pressing volume key, still no chance to update the app. Could you please give advice to fix it, thanks.
Try lifting the SIM card storage and ensuring it is seated correctly. Then try the app again ... that worked for me when I saw the red cross signal!
The location of the SIM card can be found at the 29 minute point of my infotainment screen walkthrough video: ua-cam.com/video/mXxxVmETNdw/v-deo.html
@@LudicrousFeed Thanks so much for your advice. I have tried to reinstall sim card and now both car screen and app are not working well. Thanks again!
The Seal app doesn’t feature narcissism mode. I have never felt the need to be noticed so I won’t miss it one little bit.
In reference to sentry mode flash in a Tesla?
@@LudicrousFeed no Tom ….the light show and all that nonsense….plus the f*rts
ci sono stati degli aggiornamenti software che hanno migliorato la autonomia?
Sono in procinto di comprare byd seal, ma l'efficienza non è buona quanto quella della tesla model 3, spero in aggiornamenti che ne aumentino la efficienza.
cosa dici? model 3 o seal?
I suggest you watch my recent real world range video if you’re worried about the Seal’s efficiency … I was pleasantly surprised !
Premium BYD Seal Highway Range and Efficiency Sydney to Hunter Valley
ua-cam.com/video/qwKwLij6e08/v-deo.html
My app always shows the doors Closed but not locked.
I have restarted the car, did nothing but they also want me to deregister and uninstall then re-install, can't see that being a fix as all other functions to the car work.
Mine shows that too but I actually do leave it unlocked in my garage when I’m home
@@LudicrousFeed
It has been fixed, I noticed this morning it is now all OK !
Might be worth mentioning that turning the AC on with the app turns the car on. You can then drive it without the key, at least you can in the Atto.
A sentry mode with real time notifications would be a good addition to the app. Most useful for me is checking charge status.
Hmm, I may need to do some real world field tests with the app ...
You can drive with just the app. Ie no key or RFID card. Just be careful if you are parking where the car has poor mobile (4G) reception. The App interacts via the cellular network - not via Bluetooth from phone to car.
@@feintline Not brave enough to drive without a backup key or keycard … call me paranoid 😬
On the Seal the doors stay locked when you start the air con from the app .
As long as you dont lock the car, you are free to turn off and on the car as much as you want once youve turned on via the app
Wow. It's so different from the Chinese version of the app
😭
Did you mean to show your VIN in plaintext from 0:53 Tom?
Feel free to look it up 😁
I think there are some sites you can pay to get a detailed accident report with a VIN
I assume we are trading this in for a Highland? An app that takes 5 days to sync 😂😂😂😂
IKR! Cf instantaneous with a Tesla delivery 😆
Doesn’t make a difference at D6 and beyond I suppose …
@@LudicrousFeed I just feel like this is a key difference between companies jumping on the EV bandwagon vs really wanting to make the EV a great experience
For sure and Tesla have made a concerted effort to get the details right over time 👍
This car needs refinement. I hope BYD learns from reviews.
It got most things right.
Me too
The app doesn't do much sadly
It’s fairly basic in comparison to Tesla
Looks strangely like another EV app i know…
Not a bad thing to copy the market leaders 👍😁
@@LudicrousFeed guess that’s why they call themselves BYD “Borrow Your Design” 😂 jks
why this byd company manage to hire so many people with so much money but still wanna copy tesla interface. ..
Not a bad company to copy
When you consider BYD started in 1995 and Tesla in 2003 brings into question who is copying who
