    Mini PCs are getting crazy

  • @Rolandinhovich
    @Rolandinhovich 5 місяців тому +6

    Looks like it's exact like UM780 XTX - same magnetic top cover, same chassis, same oculink to m.2 adapter board.
    Been thinking to replace mine XTX because of oculink adapter advertisement - now I see that it's still a tradeoff for one of m.2s.
    Thanks for clarification!

    These AMD mini PCs are really good. The thing holding back the GPU performance is the ram speed. Imagine pair this with 7500mhz or even to make it possible a 8500mhz ram this could be your only PC you need.

      @Dryde85 I believe new gen APUs are dependent more on ram speed, so timings won't matter as much.

    • @ShiroKuroh
      @ShiroKuroh 5 місяців тому +3

      Have to disagree, sure ram speed plays a small factor in this, but what holds the GPU back is the fact its running at pcie 4.0 x4. Also, at a certain point, there is a sweet spot for the AMD's infinity fabric is such a diminished gain it wouldn't be worth it. Not sure the 8945HS's best fabric speed, but I know the 7000 series shown great gain at 6000, but not much gain at 6200, and rarely you'll see a placebo affect at 6400. Already hearing rumors that 6600 is the same story for 9000's but its vapor until proven. If the bus can't handle it, it won't pass it to gains to the gpu either way.

    If you are going to use the Oculink adapter, make sure to but extras since Oculink is an internal connector never meant for external use; it is fragile and the specification says it has a max of like 50 insertion cycles.

      @LinuxJediMaster 4 місяці тому +1

      @@FrankelysHernandez Yeah the M.2 to Oculink adapter he installed. The Oculink connector is not really meant to be used as an external connector like they are doing with this adapter. It is meant to be an internal board to board or board to device connector that get plugged in only a few times. The specification says the life is 50 insertion cycles, so if you use it with an external device like that GPU it is fine as long as you are not unplugging and plugging it like every day; if you do it won't probably last but a couple of months.

Since it will have an SFX PSU, it could also provide power for the minipc itself. Expected end result would be 2 mini pc sized units with 1440p-4K gaming capabilities. (4070 Ti Super)

    ok, i got this PC. some questions many reviews don't fully answer. YES, it can edit 4k video, like butter. It is WHISPER Quiet. In fact i've never heard it make a noise ONCE. ever. seriously. but I don't put it in performance mode, just regular mode, but it still can handle Abelton, Premiere, AE, and more with EASE. Power brikc is super small and convenient compared to other mini PC.
    is it the most powerful PC on earth. No, but I just don't get what 99% of other people would need better for. Gaming is a different story. Its a mid tier gaming pc AT BEST, if even that. Otherwise its my dream machine. I got 96gb ram with 4TB HD. so nice to have all that onboard, never a need for external HD, even with huge video files. It's so light and portable but actually feels quite well built. Got mine for about $1050 fully decked out. Couldn't be happier. 1/3 the price of a mac mini m4 with better RAM and storage options. SMH Apple.
    If you're on the fence and just need a great computer. GET this. It replaced my 2015 r2 15 alienware super gaming computer and 2017 5k imac with ease. If you're doing super powerful stuff, then that's like special needs and get another PC, but for 99% of people who need to edit video, open tons of tabs on chrome, do some animation, make music, do video chats, watch multiple video screens at once, it just cuts through ever task like butter smooth. GREAT machine. 10/10.

      Technically yes as the dock is equal to a Pci-e 4 x4 slot afaik. so you don't have the same data bandwith as a full X16 slot. How much that will saturate those I have no clue. but even a 4090 when announced was said to just barely being able to saturate the "old" Pcie 3 x16 which should be the same as Pci-e 4 X8, so my guess is maybe both the 4080 and 4090 WILL take a slight hit in bandwith with the Occulink, but it's just my own educated "guess" I would guess around the 4070ti is the sweetspot for using the Occulink's datarate close to maximum without paying too much for a gpu that won't deliver full potential power. A 4090 as E-GPU is plain stupid at the price.

    Does it come with an included cable to connect a 2.5ssd drive underneath the motherboard?

    • @GeeksAndGamingNetwork
      @GeeksAndGamingNetwork 4 місяці тому

      There is no room for a 2.5 drive, usually pc's that give you 2 m.2 ports don't have a 2.5 option.

      @@GeeksAndGamingNetwork Not sure why on their product page , on the device image right above the Product Specification section there's a mouse over plus sign and that is what it says sata 2.5 SSD. I guess they never noticed their error. 😮

    • @GeeksAndGamingNetwork
      @GeeksAndGamingNetwork 4 місяці тому

      @drinkingincanada all the reviews I've seen on it where they tear it down don't show an option for a 2.5 drive and they don't even mention if it's possible...
      often times company product pages that have variations of the same pc tend to copy and paste some details especially when it's products coming from china...i would look on other storefronts like amazon or newegg to compare product details. They tend to list things correctly most of the time...also, user reviews tend to mention if it does or not.

    I finally upgraded from mini PC's to actual PC's, unfortunately my APU excitement has completely waned at this point considering that it would be much cheaper to get much MUCH better performance, than to try and snag one of these newer mini PCs. Still rocking my UM690 but realizing you can get so much more for less money converted me to the big box.
    Still, if you want a small box you don't have to build yourself these are a treat. I think these could take over the PC market for normal people.

      Its kinda niche. Laptops provide the wanted and needed computer solution to the majority. Anything with a screen is going to be more attractive to MANY people. People who had no intention of carrying their computer always had and still have the full towers. This is a portable unit that necessitates you have monitors and a wall plug in at all locations you take it to.

    Can't wait to see a review on their new AtomMan X7 Ti if the gpu can compete with the 780M .. not that I really want to pay for that buildin mini screen 😂 really close to preorder this 890 Pro even the performance is identical to the 790 Pro. Maybe in the future there will be a use for the NPU, but the USB4 support and 2x 2,5gb net is nice, and the new egpu is not too expensive if you want to go that way. Would be nice if they'd upgraded to Wifi 7 like Intel, but I'm not sure if that is cause 8gen Ryzen mobile is still only Nvme gen 4. or just not enough lanes.

    Can you test Resident Evil Outbreak 1 and 2 and Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles would be great. These games are far more demanding than Auto Modellista and gOD of War.

    This 4070 on an Oculink diy dock is probably cheaper and surely performs way better than those branded enclosed USB4/Oculink 7600MXT's! Sure it doesn't look as sturdy/portable but we all want that performance per dollar...

    I don't get it. Why use a miniPC with an external GPU? That beats the whole point of using a miniPC (a computer that is small, light, power efficient and quiet). What we really need is the graphical horse-power of an external GPU, like an RTX 4060, inside the miniPC. Hopefully that will happen within the next couple of years. Probably the successor to the new upcoming 890M iGPU.

      I would say for versatility. One of the main benefits of a mini pc is it’s size for applications like a living room media pc where space may be minimal or you don’t want an eye sore of a pc but you might want to take it to the desk for some more intensive gameplay.

    Oculink docks need better designs, something like the Razer Core, for me the exposed GPU PSU isn't ideal. Seems like a dust magnet. OneXGpu does makes one but, its an all-in-one design and you're stuck with the built-in GPU. (I'm sure one exists, I just haven't come across it yet.)
