This video seemed almost too good for UA-cam. The pacing, the storytelling, the way the video resonates with Bryan telling the story. Just beautiful. This is, hands down, one of my favorite few UA-cam videos.
Bryan Cranston's story makes me think of destiny. Not to belittle the incredible journey and hard work he put in, but the circumstances and results feel so close knit. A son of actors accidentally falling in love with acting. A father who left accidentally teaching him to love the journey. That same father that played as inspiration for one of the greatest performances we've ever seen. It just feels like all these trials and tribulations were set up for him and he took every right decision to get to where he is. Bryan was the one who was truly destined for his father's dream, and we're all lucky for that. I'm sure we're all destined for greatness too. Even if it's not fame and fortune, we all have our parts to play, it's just about finding what you love and loving what you do, but most importantly, enjoying the journey above the destination.
You have an incredible style of storytelling, that incorporates the subjects interviews and media they are most known for and it's such a captivating and personal way of telling someones story. It shines especially in this video.
This channel is criminally under rated. Theres a ton of channels that do "documentary" style videos, but all follow the same formula. Dodford takes that formula, extracts the great, and adds the greatest bit of his own flair. Dodford's style is easy to watch, entertaining, and extremely informational. Everyone who enjoys youtube documentary should be subbed to this channel.
I don't know where you would begin to find clips from 2 entire tv shows that perfectly fit in with the story telling not to mention various commercials and archive footage, this is an incredible feat, thank you.
"You've got to find what you love to do and focus on that. You have to have talent. You have to have perseverance and you have to have patience - and the last component is the most fickle of all and that's luck." Those are the words of an experienced and knowledgeable man. This is deep, even as it still feels obvious.
Music choice was 100% on point my boy I was jamming the entire time. When Mr. Cranston was speaking on his father it made me bawl like a child, excellent work as usual sir.
Dude, I've been looking forward to this since the poll was posted. Can't wait to dig into the video on my lunch break, but here's a like and a comment for the algorithm in the meantime, and thanks for giving me something quality to watch in a couple hours.
Great edit! Very inspiring. I will say tho as a plumber, if everyone did what they love, there wouldn't be many people call to get your septic tank serviced.
Really mind blowing that his dad gave up at 40 years old. While he didn't get his big role on Malcolm in the middle until 40. Maybe giving up and leaving your family wasn't the play
I watched a 5 min video earlier and couldn't keep my attention on it. At first i thought i became one of those dopamine victims (i probably am), but then i watched this video, and fairly speaking it's "just" some TV clips and voice overs, and i was tied to that screen. Well done.
Man your effort to collect SO much footage must have been a lot of work and we only see brief glimpses of each one, this was really well done. The family footage in the side mirror of the car at the end was a nice touch👌
I thought that I was going to like the Quentin Tarantino video more than this one, but I was wrong. There are far more life lessons in this video, but that’s not to take away from what you did for both. I will be seeing them more than once without a doubt.
Holy shit this might be the best video on UA-cam that I have ever seen, the pacing, music, and editing really just took me away. I almost forgot that this was a UA-cam video that is how great this video is.
Another masterpiece from Danny. This deserves way more attention that it got. But at the end, what matters most is the joy making this brought to you, Danny, and the joy that it brought to the few tens of thousands who watched this, myself included. Thanks, mate.
This is fucking incredible, I'm so happy I found your channel, thank you algorithm for once you actually delivered. Can only hope you get rewarded for the enormous effort and care you can see went in to this documentary.
I waited to comment until I finished the video. Brilliant job. I like that each video has a theme of the subject's life rather than being a complete documentary. It makes it simple to enjoy.
Dodford videos give films students, a deep intellectual, masterful understanding on how heroic content needs ro be told, the purity of his crafftmanship to pay homage to cinemaphiles is unmatched....
Finished his book yesterday and I must admit Bryan Cranston is such an inspiring person and so relatable. "[...] a shift in perspective can change a life. Hope can create possibility. Options are always available to us if we stand back and look at things differently". Not expect the outcome of your chosen path but the joy you'll feel when go through it. As he said he became famous by the time he 40 as Hal and 50 as Walt.
Firstly I wanted to say how much I enjoyed this! Truly fantastic and nuanced storytelling of an actor I admired but didn’t really know much about. In only 17 mins I learned not just the actor but the man Bryan Cranston and now have a crazy amount of respect. He’s one of the greats in my books! Thank you so much for this 🙏
I'm an artist and this mini documentary really spoke to me. the way you edit these are really touching and I just really wanted to thank you for creating something so inspiring ❤
Bro, you have improved so much as a UA-camr, I remember your first videos were good, now you’re greatness, Dodford, you’re in the same lane as Johnny Harris and James Jani now, but you might be one up, you do all your film editing. Insane brother
I was blown away or rather continue to be blown away at your use of music/soundtracks. Incredible work! Grinded a few of your videos through lat night work and you earned a subscriber.
Mr. Cranston and I were born on exactly the same day one year later, and I was always a big fan... even during his low budget film phase. This video is brilliantly done and scared the living daylights out of me.
yet again another banger from you dodford, been following you since a year and a half and love to see you getting better and better each video with storytelling and just editing in general. no one doing docs quite like you rn.. content like this is something that shouldnt be free, keep going u got a future in cinema.
This was fantastic I know the channel is going to blow up big and glad I was here to see the inflexion point on the Tarantino video and then marvellous followup with this one
Great work as always, thank you. Would you ever consider doing a Q&A? I'm curious to know of the people you've researched , whose story has had the most profound impact on you?
The storytelling in this video is top tier, just incredible work, with wonderful editing choices especially as you bring the story home. Felt like one big Rorschach test about a mans journey, amazing work as always!
The quality of these is always impeccable. Have watched you since your interview on the Editing Podcast (fellow editor). I could happily echo all the positive feedback you've received on these, but instead I'll offer a point of critique: these videos are so dense. Maybe I just need more beats to digest? Not sure, but as entertaining and documentary-level as these are, they feel like a chore to watch. But a chore I greatly enjoy! Looking forward to more. Specifically Bo. 😌
I feel bad for Breaking Bad fans because now a days it's seen as a meme machine instead of a serious drama. I don't mind it because newer fans will discover the show, but every time I think of a serious time I think of a funny meme I seen 😂
The only problem I see here is that the advertisement almost overshadowed the amazing content. I've never engrossed enough in an ad read to watch the whole thing until this moment! lol
not gonna lie i saw this vid come up a couple times and put it off but the change of thumbnail and title (i think?) just enticed me more for some reason. obv i knew the video would be good but for some reason this version made me want to click, which i did lol great video
I watched Malcolm in the middle occasionally when I was a kid and I liked it but it was never my favourite. Since becoming a father me and my son are on our fourth run through all the seasons. Criminally underrated show, all characters even the side ones are perfectly cast and it is consistently so fucking good.
Damn it’s almost like someone with passion and love for something won’t create some grand ending or reward for yourself just to start doing it…cause you enjoy it and that’s reward enough
This videos and the Channel are so great. I didn't know the background of the carrier of Bryan and i think you perfect edited a tell it... Keep Going please, I love your videos.
That car freak-out from Malcolm in The Middle caught me so off guard my first time watching it, since I watched Breaking Bad first. That was like a top 3 Walter White freak-outs and it wasn't even on the right TV show.
This video seemed almost too good for UA-cam. The pacing, the storytelling, the way the video resonates with Bryan telling the story. Just beautiful. This is, hands down, one of my favorite few UA-cam videos.

Crazy how I've watched so many interviews of Bryan Cranston but still had no idea about his past life!!
You should read his book! He goes into all of this and more. There's an audio version narrated by him as well
liked the video before I even watched it cause I know dodford never disappoints 🗣
