- This was my first time on a scooter and it was fun! No, I won't be buying one BUT this baby had some good pep! Packing a 650 engine that's smooth as glass, the automatic CVT transmission makes it simple for anyone to not only get around town but take on the freeway, no problem. With power folding mirrors, power windscreen, push button shifting if desired, plenty of room and office chair comfort, it's certainly appealing to many people that have the need for a scooter.

I bought my first motorcycle in 1967. My Burgman 650 is the best motorcycle I ever owned and I have driven it farther than any of the others. The longest ride in one day was 1000 kilometers with no discomfort. It doesn't attract attention, but I don't care. It does many things very well.
I'm 62, riding a motorbike since I was 19. I have a back wear and I have an older Suzuki Burgman 650 from 2002. I have driven a lot of heavy motorbikes, but this Burgman is the first that I can ride that I have no problems with my back. But also in the driving experience, it is not far from a Goldwing.

I bought my 1st Burgman at 33 and now I'm on my 3rd and I've loved every one. Aside from not being particularly tall, I have no such restrictions on the bike I can ride. I ride a Burgman cos they are super convenient and comfortable.

The Burgi 650 is a MAN Scooter. I'v gone from Santa Rosa California to Yosemite and back, a grate trip. In the high mountains this bike loses no horsepower because of fuel injection. A 650 Burgman is the way to go.
I bought a Burgman 650 because arthritis in my hands made clutch operation painful. My Burgman made riding fun again.

It's heavy enough not to be affected too much by large trucks and powerful enough to make highway driving a dream. When on the highway I cruise at 120 KMH (75 MPH) with lots of throttle to spare. I thought I was the only one, I had to stop several times and hold my wist and hand in hand until it stops, from grabbing the throttle.
If only I knew what shop/business I can buy this bike. I want one because it looks big and comfortable.
I should start with the fact that I stopped riding for over 20 years due to neuropathy. (No feeling in my feet due to diabetes) When my wife came home with a bike of her own, instead of pouting around, I asked friends for help in finding something that might suit me. I found and purchased a Burman 400. I rode it for a year. I truly fell in love with the bike, but wanted the 650. Five years later, I still ride the same bike. The top end on a new 650 at this time is rated at around 120 mph. Gotta tell you, it cruisers incredibly well at 80 all day long without a hitch. Many of us like to call our Burgies "sport utility bikes". Long distance traveling is so comfortable that you do not feel like you need a rest stop. If it weren't for needing gas or a pit stop, I would ride for 6 to 8 hours nonstop.
I will finish by mentioning that if you were blindfolded and rode on the back, you may swear that you were on a motorcycle, only much more comfortable.

This is the best bike I have ever owned. The practicality is simply amazing. The local airports do not charge for motorcycle parking, so I am able to store my luggage in the bike itself, and park at the terminals for 10 days or more for free. The power is more than adequate, and it is very smooth and comfortable, with all the fairings.
I have 25,000+ miles through 12 states and Toronto on my 2013 Burgman 650, and usually when traditional bike guys test these scooters out, their prejudice overwhelms their review. You did a great job of conveying the pros and cons and the overall riding experience. Excellent job! However, the LEFT brake handle is the REAR brake, not the FRONT. Two-wheels-down bro!
+Taalib Muhammad Actually, the brakes are set up similarly to many of the larger touring motorcycles with one brake handle (or foot pedal, in the case of the Goldwing) operating the interlocked front and rear disc (in the case of disc brakes) and the other brake handle operating the second disc on the front wheel.
So, you either apply both the front and rear brake at the same time with one handle on the Burgman, (or the Goldwing, except that the foot brake in this case operates the interlocked front/rear brakes), or the front brake only in the case of the other handle on the 650 Burgman or the Goldwing.
People are always missing the biggest attribute to this scooter and that is the protection from weather and road grime. I've ridden this bike in business suits without getting grease or wrinkles on them. I've ridden in cold weather and in pouring rain at speed passing cars that had to slow down because their windshields were flooded. The low center of gravity takes the fatigue out so touring is pleasurable. My first ride on one was a 400 mile journey and the only problem was the small fuel tank forcing more rest stops then I needed. Gas mileage is about 55 mpg.
Good review but if the power mode had been used it would have accelerated quicker. I have to take some issue with the comment about the difference between a 'full size' bike and a 'scooter'. Having recently swapped a DL1000 V Strom for a 400 Burgman (medical issues) and then done a 1000 mile round trip over Christmas, cruising at the same speeds I would have done on the Strom (i.e. 80mph) but in greater comfort and with much better fuel consumption - 200 miles to a full tank, 13 litres, 3.43 US gallons, 2.86 Imp gallons - and the huge luggage capacity before adding a top box or panniers makes it an all round machine capable of touring with any bike. I suspect the 650 being even more so.
Just for town use? Think again. If my 400 can handle a long trip then the 650 will only do it better.
good point... i saw some vids of a 400 topping out about 100mph. thats good because you dont need wide open throttle all the time on the freeway and ruin your motor. i can only imagine what the 650 is capable of =)
I loved my 400 Burgman but topped it out at 90mph! Very stable!
Thanks for a great review. I own one of these in the Uk, my wife and I have toured Northern Spain and Germany on it no probs. I want to thank you for being so fair, we get tired sometimes of the outright prejudice shown by some bikers. We are all out there on two wheels and big scooters are more than capable of thousands of miles touring, fast commuting and great weather protection. Mine is used 365 days of the year except ice and snow. Keep telling people how good these are. Thanks Groucherino
+Groucherino I finally got some respect from local harley users by joining the American Legion Riders. They were surprised after they saw me right behind them after about 30 minutes of an attempt to lose me. We ride all the time, and now THEY know that Burgman is NOT a scooter. Well, it is sorta, I guess.
Hey Bryan. I'm both surprised and and happy that you did this review. Until a couple of years ago, (pre-divorce), I owned 3 bikes. I was lucky enough to have a Harley fat boy, a CBR 600RR, and of all things, a 650 burgman. I initially got the burgman for my wife, but after asking for it, she decided that she didn't like to ride. So, there it sat, getting dusty in my garage. I loved and rode my Harley and CBR daily, but eventually noticed the Suzuki and thought I'd better give it a spin around the block to keep the battery charged and the oil circulated. Man oh man, was I surprised! I really enjoyed it. It was way quicker than I expected, and the comfort level was off the charts. Bearing in mind that I was used to a big ass Harley that was ridiculously loud and although comfy, had all the inherent vibes, and the CBR, That was loud, fast and killed my back and wrists after an hour or two. So I got on the burgman, started it, and had to look at the tach to be sure it was actually running. Adjusted the screen and mirrors at the touch of a button, and set off to 7-11. The ride there was the most comfortable I've ever been on 2 wheels. I had to travel 1 exit along the freeway, and couldn't believe how quick it was, (overtook everything), and got to the store. I bought a couple of things and went outside. While stuffing my purchases in my jacket it occurred to me to have a look under the seat. WOW, (you should have mentioned this), the carrying capacity is huge. You can literally fit 2 helmets under there! I went back in the store and filled 3 grocery bags that all went under the seat. On the way home it rained a little, and I remained dry. So, to conclude this story, obviously thank you for All of your posts, but also thanks for reviewing a cycle that I guess no one else will take notice of. I have to be honest, I enjoyed riding that thing almost as much as the other two, especially if I needed to make a store run. Although it had all that stowage, (and also the front compartments), and the control system, I have a hard time calling it a scooter. It's so much more, it almost deserves a category of it's own. Anyway Bryan, keep the content flowing, I look forward to, and enjoy them all. Ride safe matey.
lol Karen, well after your previous bikes,dont forget that the burgman is technically a scooter, [ albeit a biggun ], but if you have that in mind already, I truely dont think youll be disappointed. I strongly suggest a test ride first, but honestly I recon youll be pleasently surprised. good luck!

+Karen Walls lol, well I too would love the RSV, (the heart would, not so much the back), but anyways, the Burgman is on the large side, but then, it's lugging around a 650 motor, (not a 150)lol, basically it's got the advantages of a mid range motorcycle, and the advantages of a scooter, (gas mileage, tons of carrying capacity, parking, stealth from the cops which is way cool, they never glance at scooters, even though it will top 100, plus all the weather protection, abs, comfort). It does take a full size motorcycle space to park, but I think the compromise is worth it. (lol, blimey, I think I've thought myself into buying another one). Anyhoo I don't work for Suzuki by the way, but it's only real competitor is the BMW, for twice the price, and in my opinion not as good. Really Karen, see if you can get a test ride, you'll prolly put down a deposit right there. (lol, I'm getting excited for you)! Take care, ride safe.

Don't worry about the weight, once your feet are up it handles like a dream, even at slow speeds two up. We go on and off ferries etc and its ideal. Power is awsome at traffic lights etc, surprises many. I would not hesitate. Pricey? No, you get what you pay for.........

This thing was built for a purpose. It's for commuting, touring and running errands. All of this but in a comfortable manner. If you want a lot of speed and going flat in the corners, buy a superbike. And you can't really compare the two, like apples and pears.

Awesome "vehicle". It's not an average scooter... I wouldn't even call this thing a scooter... For me this is a super utilitarian machine desined for people who want Suv comfort and prius-hybrid fuel economy... It's just a great vehicle and I really consider to buy that thing! Anyone else?

Trouble is "Luxobarge" sounds a bit clumsy . Superscooter sounds better.

I have a 2002 Burgman 650cc in addition to my 750cc Intruder. Now I cannot be influenced by the prejudiced prejudices of others. It is my everyday friend for the whole year, even in the winter period. The Intruder for beautiful weather rides in the area, the difference? The Intruder has more character, the Burgman tours finer on long distances, you can carry more, better protected and that [power] button, as if you were shot in a rocket.
I'm 'new' to the bike scene and have been looking around at different bikes. Not really into crazy stupid sports bikes so, have been looking at scooters. Your review has literally sealed the deal and this is the one I'm going for. I really enjoyed the review, the honesty and the detail. I almost didn't want it to stop, I was enjoying it so much! :-) Cheers.

Drove my 2007 over 100,000 miles never needed a valve adjustment. Engine is from the hyabusa 1300 cc cut in half for the 650 cc. good credentials.
Great review..I have owned 9 motorcycles in my life..from Honda 350 scrambler to my current vstar 1300. Giving this machine serious thought..all the review I've seen are impressive..comfort is important for this senior citizen

Great review, wish the reviewer was a bit more familiar with the 650, much more to the bike than meets the eye in a casual first ride. I parted ways with a 1500 Goldwing and purchased a 650 Burgman with ABS brakes. The Burgman won't carry as much luggage although the luggage capacity is still quite large, but the riding position is much better than the Goldwing in my opinion. All said, I'm much happier with the Burgman!
I bought a 49cc scooter and I like it. I am thinking of buying a larger scooter like this after I get my motorcycle licence. I like the idea that a scooter is a step through, because I have knee problems and I am older. I like that it is automatic.
i,m in england i,ve rode motorbikes then i got a bargain in a sym 250gts loved it ,then i got a burgman 650exec wow i absolutely love it, try the power mode from a standing start at the lights and watch the cars dissapear in the mirrors, good fun.comfort is great, mirrors in to get between cars to front of lights, plenty of storage and good fuel consumption, plus most motorbike riders nod there head at me, after all we are all on two wheels. burgman 650 highley recomended.

I've been out of riding for about 8 years or so and I'm looking to get back into it with something small-ish for around town riding, errand runs and short commute to work. My actual needs might lean more towards the 400cc version, but the Burgman is looking good to me. Great review by the way!

Never had a motorcycle, I"m 62, moved to NC bought a Burgman 650 executive and love it! It's quick and comfy perfect for my trips into town for my daily coffee and mostly year round riding. I've ridden my brother -in-law's Gold Wing and that was fun. But the Burgman felt more maneuverable for me. Sure it might be better for cross country trips but I ride to town and errands. I'm impressed and great review.
I guess my concern was I wanted something with speed, weight and comfort. I'm 6'4 230 lb and it fits me.

I have mine 650 exc. and ride it all over the place. I love mine and I am getting ready to get a Honda CXT 700. It's auto as well. My ankle and back prevent me from manual shift, that's why I got the Burgie. So I can ride again.
i love mine, I was sitting on an 1100 Suzuki while mine was being serviced. Just Not sure I'd like a motorcycle.
I'm certainly glad you enjoyed your ride on the 650. There are a couple of issues I have with your review. The front brake is in fact on the right handlebar just like on any other motorcycle and the Burgman 650 will do 99% of what any other motorcycle will do. Obviously from my comments I own a Burgman 650 and am very pleased with the bike, I traded my Suzuki V-Strom 1000 for my Burgman and can say the only thing I miss about the Vee is the incredible suspension that bike had. I use my Burgman for everyday riding to long distance riding and have been very pleased with it. You review was very nicely done and you gave the bike it due. Most people poo poo the without ever riding the bike because its a "scooter", I believe that's a mistake in not giving the bike a chance.

I have spent a few weeks deliberating on whether to swap my 2013 V-Strom 650 ABS for a 2018 Burgman (here it is called a Skywave) 650 LX.
I have only one reason to consider the swap.
My left hand, its fingers and wrist hurt quite soon after beginning to ride any manual bike.
In all other respects I would prefer to remain as I am, on the 'Wee' on weekends and on my little PCX150 for commuting and shorter runs.
I cannot come up with even one thing that i do not like about the V-strom, and I know that properly maintained (mine is 100% main dealer serviced at great cost) that it will do 6 or 7 times its current 27,100 kilometres.
However... I cannot get away from the hand/wrist pain; I see no point in tolerating it.
Accepting a marked reduction in performance (I barely use the Strom's power) in exchange for the continued enjoyment and freedom that a 2-up 2-wheeler like the Burgman would give me, seems like a good compromise.
Sorry, I wrote too much.
I wanted to ask...
1. Can you wholeheartedly recommend the change from Strom To scooter?
2. Are you still as pleased with it 2 years after making your comment as you were at the time?

I live in Brazil and I'm trying to understand a little bit more about this scooter because I intend to buy one.I have experience on motorcicles I had some but now it been more then 8 years without onw. I'm 50 now and I'm looking for confort. I know it is smooth and very comfortable as you said. Here Suzuki also have another option for a smaller one, the Burgman 400 and since I'm going to use it for small rides I'm not sure witch ones to choose. But power for me means more confortable to ride and I love that. I think I'm going to buy the 650. Your review encouraged me. Thanks again !
+Lucio Cunha I started with the 400 in the spring of 2010, when I was almost 64. Move to the 650 the next spring. Seems that it is much more comfortable and cruises nicely at 80 when needed. I also find the sound much more solid than the 400. The only thing that I miss, even at nearly 70 years old, is the ease to dip really deep into the curves. Not that the 650 is a slug, but I tend to love that deep dipping turn the most. I realize too that I am my age, and probably should be glad that I can not do the deeper stuff so much any more. I would move right to the 650 if you can. But that is just me.

Great review. I really enjoy these review when someone actually takes the time to do one the right way. I considered a 650 Burgman at one point. than I saw a 1998 Intruder 1400 and the classic lay back chopper look made me think back to the days as a child and the big ol bikes that people customized. I love my intruder I'll never sell it but as much as I would love to have a Burgman I have the feeling my next bike is going to be a Suzuki Cavalcade. Cruisers are nice for short rides but I need something that can go the distance and not make me want to get off it and run away from it after about 2 or 3 hours of riding.
Yeah, good review. All I can add are the demographics of the 650 Burgman, many are ex-Goldwing riders who have gotten too old to still swing a leg over.
+Carew Martin I know from this comment, that you do not ride with any Burgman groups. True that you do not see the teens and twenties too often, but they would be WAY to cool to ride a Burgman. (in their minds anyway) There are many experienced riders who have tried them and fell in love with them for many reasons. I am talking 30's and 40's. yes, we more seasoned riders, if lucky enough to find out about them, move to them due to comfort, health and ease of riding. These things, along with minimum maintenance as well as great Burgman communities available, make for a well rounded and super satisfied group of male and female riders. Oh, and we do not miss the teens too much.

Yes, that fits my situation accurately. I still have a 2003 Gold Wing that I absolutely love in every way. For 20 years it has carried me comfortably over 140,000 kms with total reliability, and is IMO without doubt the very best long distance motorcycle on the road. However, I have just turned 80. and while my health is still good, I find now I want something a little more docile yet still maintaining the comfort level of my Wing. So I bought a 2006 Bergman for chump change and hope to pick it up in the spring for more local riding as long distance riding is out (I am primary care provider for my wife who is also 80 and somewhat disabled). I did ride one of these years ago and remember I loved everything about it other than the engine braking, which I found somewhat annoying. I am going to ride both this year and decide which one I want to sell. I estimate I still have a few years to ride but these days I do find myself facing my own mortality a bit more and don't want to get injured for my wife's sake. I have 67 years in the saddle but as of now, I plan to go out on a slightly smaller machine....
Great review. I am on the market for one of these things but was concerned about whether it would "fit" me. I am 6'1" and quite large at 140kgs. Of the many reviews I have watched, this was the first where the reviewer stated how big he was. (6'2" & 240lbs). It was obvious he was comfortable on the thing, and said so many times. I have no doubt I will find the 650 Burgman comfortable too. Thanks for the review. It was the review I have been searching for.

I'm very intrigued by scooters lately. I'm 62 and have only ridden street bikes for about 10 years- but have ridden trail bikes for over 50 years. My first bike(?) was a kinda scooter-like design that my Dad built; it had 2 speeds forward and 1 reverse! The engine had been re-purposed from an old gasoline powered washing machine my parents had purchased when they lived in old Forest Service cabins that had no nearby electric power. The transmission was from an (equally old) 3 wheel "meter maid" vehicle- which explains the reverse gear. My older brother and I shared this 'scooter' until he bought his 1963 Honda 55 trail. The first day that the scooter was mine- and mine alone- I totaled it, trying to follow him through a medium-sized rut, that his 17 inch wheels handled with aplomb; my little 8" wheels- not so much... anyway, I'm somewhat perplexed as to engine size, because I'm not too sure who all may be riding it around Montana backroads besides myself. I'm certain that I want it to be capable and competent at highway speed, without being too intimidating for newer riders to become comfortable with. Advice??

For example here in Portugal the prices get a bit heavy on cc higher then 750cc, wish means for us is caind difficult to maintain long Touring motorcycles, thats why is not usual to see see GoldWings, K 1600 GTL , Indians, Victorys Etc also because they are really expensive, but when you think about a small cc touring bike we run out of options, basacly touring bikes until 750cc you have the Honda deauville 700, so in this case we have to appreciate the Maxi Scooter market because both the Suzuki Burgman 650 executive and the BMW C 650 GTL offers more less everything that one big touring bike offers and most of the times give more pleasure to use everyday... In my opinion the Burgman 650 is the best Maxiscooter a true Scooter to enjoy doing everything in a good Vibe..

pretty funny I watch this video probably in January when I had a 400 things happened in two-three months later I got a 650 and now after watching this video again I understand everything that he's talking about! This thing is awesome never want to part with it it's my commuter I'll worry about a car after I finish paying it off! BTW I'm right across the bridge in St Petersburg! =)

the right lever is for front only - the left is for both rear and front too!. new ones have heated grips and individually heated seats!
I personally ride a Honda Silverwing (582cc) and If I can do it I will trade up to a 650 Burgie. I started my scooter riding with a Yamaha Majesty (400 cc) and then went to a Honda Pacific Coast, then a Honda V30 Maxima. Now with the Silverwing. I'm 74 and still ride a good bit but a friend had the 650 Burg and praise it.

My first motorized vehicle was a little 50cc Honda Elite scooter. That was when I was 16 and living in NYC and only had a permit... But I could go anywhere I needed to go on my own at the time. My next motorcycle was a 1982 Honda Nighthawk CB450. That was a lot of fun, but then I got a Honda Helix, which was a 25cc Scoter that was highway legal (and at the time, a big Scooter!). Since then, I have had a 1984 Honda Nighthawk 650, and most recently my 2004 Yamaha FJR1300. The Yamaha is currently in the shop waiting on some electrical parts from Japan, so I've been without it for a couple of weeks now. This kind of stinks, because Spring finally came, here in New England, and I'm missing out on some great riding weather. But I digress... I have taken a test ride on the Burgman 650 a few years ago, and I was actually impressed with it. Living just outside of Boston, traffic SUCKS here! I have tried commuting on the FJR, but the highway is just no fun at 15 mph. I try to take local roads to work, but it takes even longer. I'm almost considering trading in the FJR for the Burgman 650.

It's Quick off the line at a traffic light. it comfortable, agile in traffic, has almost the same wheelbase as the Harley 1200 sportster. it will out run the Harley 883 (883 top speed 90 mph.) all day long. Factory setting for the executive is a round 120 mph I've had mine to 115. great on gas to highway in manual I average around 46.9 to 49.9 mpg in town in automatic around 38.6 to 40.7 mpg. What most people that do these reviews seem to not understand is that the power button is for passing thats why on the back side of the brake fluid reservoir there is that yellow button click that then hit the power button and you can go from 60 mph to 80 mph in the blink of an eye in automatic mode. I attend charity bike events in my area and I always get the strangest looks for the guys on the big Harleys. several of them have asked me if I can keep up with the rest of the pack. I always ask where in the pack they will be riding because I want to be in front of them. as I don't like slow driver in front of me...hahaha

it's basically THE hotrod of scooters....to the point of being a JetSki on land.....that "looks" like a scooter.....and Much faster than most cars, and plenty of bikes.
I own one of these as well as Kawasaki Voyager 1700 and I've owned a variety of bikes over the years and ridden tens of thousands of kilometres. The small scooters you refer to are for delivering pizza and zipping in and out of the traffic around town. These big engine scooters are for the open road and touring as well as the inner city ride. The CVT means the bike takes off quickly at the lights - there is a manual mode but it is not something I have ever used. The power mode is for extra revs when over taking. ABS brakes and twin discs on the front are good stoppers. The dash provides heap of information for the rider and by toggling one of the buttons you can get an average fuel consumption. The 14 litre tank using 95 RON gives a range of about 200kms. It is the ideal bike for the open road as well as the daily commute. Just get over the bike v scooter thing. Choose the ride you like, to got the place you want and get out on the road and enjoy the ride.

Really appreciate your input on this bike. I'd recently bought a scooter (125 cc) and it's been loads of fun. I mostly ride it to work and back, but do make trips to the store and other local places. But I'm starting to get the bite for something freeway friendly b/c I'd like to get to the other side of town in decent time and not spend all day doing it. Anyway, you're right about the insurance and gasoline factors. I spend about 10 - 15 dollars a week (somewhat of a liberal figure) on gasing up and have been saving myself roughly maybe $150 to $175 a month (I own an SUV) Insurance wise, I have liability at $480 per year. I know if I were to spring for one of these jewels you're riding in this vid, those figures I'd mentioned would probably change considerably, especially the insurance. But if I could afford it, I would go out tomorrow and buy it!!!! Again, thanks for the info-ride! Peace. . .
the bike does have average mpg on lcd and an eco indicator AND I CAN NOT BELIEVE YOU DIDNT TRY THE POWER MODE!!!!!!
I'm starting my venture into the world of riding on two wheels. So far its a blast. Right now I'm on a 50cc scooter. Yeah I know. I'm one of those guys that barely goes 35mph on the side of the road. But my scooter is the very first motorized two wheeled vehicle I've ever ridden. But I do have a two year goal of taking the MSF class, getting my motorcycle endorsement, and doing either the Honda CTX700 motorcycle or a Burgman 650 maxiscooter.

+tamiasthechipmunk Do yourself the favor of trying them both. The Burgie is stronger and better reactively as well as much more maintenance free.
The CVT finds the best settings. The only advantage to using the manual is sometimes you get a higher OD "gear" ratio. Its only useful on the highway otherwise the automatic is great. The Old Honda Helix was great but it was a 250.

The only reason to use the manual shifting option is because there is an OD gear a bit taller than the automatic. there is probably also a button to hold you in gear longer when you have a heavy load.

125cc is relatively popular in Europe due to the drivers license classes. A1 license is a light motorcycle license up to 125cc and 11kW.
there are age restrictions on what license you can get, so that's the main reason why people would get them
in everywhy expect 2, the scooter is a way better ride then a motorcycle. the motorcycle has a supposed "cooler" position and faster performance. in every other way the b650 is the better choice.
-better mpg
-comfort-seat has backrest and the seating position with legs up is much comfortable even passenger has backrest and foot plates unlike pegs on motorcycle. you can stretch your legs out for comfort. the b650 has a huge seat and is super comfy
-flexibility huge cargo space under seat and in front compartments. if you can get a roll of toilet paper under the motorcycle, say thank you.
-windhshield is adjustable on the fly. rain, or shine adjust to your needs
-plastics/windshield help protect against a bombardment of rain vs motorcycle where your whole body is exposed
-heated seats and grips. very comfortable. u can add aftermarket ehated grips if you need though
-the b650 is no slouch. it has enough spped to beat harleys and it can do long rides in complete comfort and carry a lot of cargo.
Not riding it in power mode doesn't do the bike justice.
Shame you didn’t try the power button, it does make a noticeable difference on exceleration, basically it’s just keeping it in a lower gear for longer, placing you in a near the perfect rev range for maximum acceleration. And the hand brake is a welcome addition . I know you wasn’t after one for yourself but it’s nice to mention everything
My first bike was. Burgman 400. Loved it. The Burgman family is full of quality machines with much capability. Buy what you want. All that "real motorcycle" stuff is just nonsense.

+theSMYRNAcowboy This is why Im considering this bike over a TMAX. The TMAX is much sportier, but I think the Burgman is more of a "mature" man's bike. Definitely not a young guy's bike. We like comfort, safety and luxury once we hit 50 dont we? As Im 49 now I'm thinking this bike may suit my age and driving style better than a sport bike.
I'm a young guy and I will be getting this bike not all young riders like to go fast

I own a Burgman 650. Did you try the Power Mode button? Makes a big difference with acceleration. Lets it rev higher before shifting. From a stop, if I nail it, the tire will break loose. First time I did it I couldn't figure out what that noise was. I though I broke something, but it was the tire squealing. For people with bad hips, can't throw the leg over a motorcycle, the Burgman 650 is great. Doesn't make you feel speed handicapped.
+GLS I don't think he actually did anything when he pressed the "Manual" button in the video. It likely switched to manual shifting mode, but unless he pressed the "Upshift" or "Downshift" button, the bike would have stayed in exactly the same gear as had been selected by the automatic transmission. The CVT on the Burgman is not set up to be a continuously variable transmission as are some cars. It it set up to select 6 different positions (think gears) to give the effect of shifting through a 6 speed manual.
Merely pressing the "Manual" button at a constant speed won't do anything for you . . . . . .
l bought one of these, it is so great. l had knee surgery, so l do not have to change gears. you did not mention the power button, abs brakes ,park brake, adjustable shocks,storage, l could go on and on, just love it and l still have a big harley but would rather ride the scooter
it needs to be on the. larger size because it makes for a more steady ride. I would not want to go with anything smaller. You can even tour on this. The scooter is also small enough to run around on. Be sure to include the heated grips and seat.
The power button how could you ride a 650 burgman and not try the power button, it releases the horse's and kicks your arse
I had a 2004 the manual setting went to 5th gear to get overdrive you had to go to auto up to 65mph. I now have a 2005 it is in manual a six speed. I us manual almost all the time because in town at 35mph auto it turns 3000rpm but in 6th gear 2000rpm. Better mileage. Plus in manual you can go to red line. more power. Comfort: it's great but my LC 1500 intruder beats all.
What you should have done is keep it on automatic and engage the power button. Keeps the RPM's around 1000 higher and is so much more responsive. I have a love hate relationship with my burgman. On one side I'd Like to get something with more per, on the other side, its hard to give up the comfort for the Two of us.
With it’s long & low wheelbase, does it bottom out when going over speed bumps & speed humps?
If you get the chance..test the Suzuki Burgman 400 abs. I am disabled and have R.A. stage 3-4 and have been thinking of getting the 400 or baby Burgman as they call it. To me the Suzuki Burgman 200 abs should be the baby Burgman. The storage and ride are the biggest sale for me.

Your description of sitting in a chair, going down the road reminds me of how it feels to ride my Vespa300. It's very upright and with nothing to speak of in front of you, it feels like a 70MPH bar stool.
For years I rode motorcycles of all sizes both street and off road; however now that I am over 65 y o and my lower back is full of arthritis I chose a scooter, a step through, instead of throwing a leg over, which is very painful for me. It took a while to get use to riding a scooter; after all I started riding a motorcycle in the late 1960's. Getting use to the small 13" wheels was a challenge. I am now riding a 2008 S Y M 250 R V. To be totally honest I enjoy riding this scooter more so than any motorcycle that I ever rode in the past. That being said my R V 250 doesn't cut it on the highway, so I am looking to upgrade to a scooter capable of keeping up with traffic on the freeway. My only concern is the curb weight on the Burgman 650. Weighing more than 600 pounds may be a problem when I have to back peddle?

Only thing you left out is that you can't easily drive that scooter from New York to Los Angeles may not be as comfortable as a full-size cruiser but just as comfortable as anything else. Also it well go down the road 80+ mph all day long.

I think that the 650 puts out 60bhp. Insurance on this is cheap compared to a traditional mc. You should have tried POWER MODE. Makes a difference.
