I purchased a small Exotac ferro rod a couple of years ago. I now have larger "go to" rods, but it works so well and is small enough so I keep it in my canteen side pouch as part of the "canteen kit".

Exotac is my ferrocerium supplier of choice. Been carrying them for about 5 years. I carry a FireROD on my pack, and have NanoStriker refill rods in my wallet and pocket survival kit.

Agreed. But what I disagree with is Bic lighters being finicky. In fact I've found Bics that were buried in the mud, perhaps for more than a year, rusted and compacted with dirt, and got them going again no problem after a few swipes on my denim. I'm 43 years old, I've smoked for 32 of those years and not once, not ONCE have I had a Bic lighter "crap out" on me. Quite the opposite.

This was great, I have been researching "learning powerful methods to build your Chi energy" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Fellmeroni Rudimentary Chi - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my cousin got excellent results with it.

Another reason for alternatives to a butane lighter, is the fact that butane freezes art 28F. Found this out on a winter camp out.
Every lighter I have has gone empty. I could assume high elevation change did it? Even when kept in an Altoids box.
Any videos out on that knife?
Do you like the firerod or the nanostriker xl more? And why?
I started trying out an electric one that is rechargaby. So far so good.

Is anyone else having a pitting problem with there FERRO ROD I store it in the pouch in the front of my knife sheath. I'm thinking about painting it----any ideas ?

I’ve been looking at these. One thing I would do is add some nice Sticky Beeswax to the threads of the cap and rod. Don’t want to reach for it and have nothing but a cap hanging off the lanyard.

Why aren't there any firerods with a wheel attached on them, so that you don't need a striker and, don't waste the rod too fast?

Scootch good vid,but isn't it a little bit like a commercial.I love your videos where you make gear yourself,your the Tin Man making all the gear.Now serious question,what is it with Americans where they have to have EDC,get home bag, bug out bag and tactical knives.I'm a hunter when I go shooting I have a game bag with ammo and a Mora knife and a Buck lite on my belt,water bottle and the rifle caliber I need that day.Back at my HondA Crv I'd have a flask of Tea and sandwiches.My toolbox is in the jeep too,now if my vehicle breaks down I can phone my wife,my son or one of my friends.WHAT are AMERICAN's afraid of,what do they think is going to happen.Sorry for being so blunt but I don't understand all this prepping.I have a collection of Helle and other Scandinavian knives.I'd love an answer my friend.

hey scoochmy cousin goes to that school in Florida. He says that the kids they're showing on the television never went to his school. He also says that they were told that there would be a drill that day with police coming in shooting blanks. He says that they convinced most of the kids at the school that it actually happened when it didn't. And they were told explicitly not to talk about the situation.
Another good review but I do believe I have enough fire starting materials at this point. I like the knife it looks like it means business. Keep up the good work. Let us know if you move your channel if you get caught up in the UA-cam political correctness mess.

I bought this Exotac FireRod, and am not impressed; the striker is too small and almost impossible to get consistent controlled sparks. Might work better when using a knife as the striker but I don't like to use my knife as a striker.

Doesn’t even mention trying to start a bic while wet. To me that’s the biggest and really only downfall to the bic besides running out of fuel which I feel doesn’t really count. The things he’s mentions about the bic have never happened to me in all my years. Given sure they can happen. Water I feel is it’s only real weakness till it dries out.

This ferro rod is $30 in the link supplied by Sootch00 in his description. It's a good ferro rod, but it isn't worth $30. I bought the same exact ferro rod off Ebay (no name clone) for $5.70. Works the same and likely made in the same factory.

Unironic comment. I was looking for a proper review for this rod as I decide whether to buy it. However, you are lighting cotton dipped in alcohol and this just couldn't be further from any survival situation possible.

Due to youtubes announcement on banning gun videos this is my reply: I am calling for a complete boycott of EVERY advitisor on every channel on youtube until youtube changes their policy back to allow all gun content. Also everyone should also call for a week of non-use of youtube to protest this policy and if it is not changed then there needs to be an exodus of youtubers to Vimeo or another video service. This is an outrage. A complete violation of what we stand for as Americans. We must stand united because divided we fall.
