Never clinching for self defense because of possibility of knives. Also, Shane is brave for clinching with a man taller than him. They usually have all the leverage then!

Depends on context, clinch can be the only useful unarmed tool to nullify a knife. Look up double overhook position, Russian 2-on-1, and others.

Raiden4019 That's an interesting point. I guess the thought of being close enough to be stabbed just makes me hesitant to ever clinch up but in all honesty, if it's self defense, I'd invest in good running shoes lol.

The problem is, in a real assault, you're probably going to be ambushed from a close distance and hit/stabbed/threatened with a wepon and pinned up against a wall before you even know what's going on. If someone pulls out a knife from 20 feet away and starts yelling obscenities and running towards you, by all means run. Or give them your wallet, or whatever. You don't always have the luxury of the time and space necessary to pull out a gun or escape, though, so sometimes you've gotta clinch whether you want to or not just to to temporarily keep from getting stabbed or hit, etc.

I see Stephen is using the performance skills he developed in order to play the villain in his budding new acting career 🤣

Shane uses his left arm to block the haymaker while the right arm is going past the head to clinch. It would be reasonable to take the opportunity and just strike the face at the same time as you do the block, krav maga 360 defense teaches this. After the hand strike the knee can follow.

The clinch is not ideal for self defense, since it leaves one or two arms of the opponent free to take out your eye or groin or strike your torso and it's also allows the opponent to kick/knee your groin. The clinch is awesome for sport fighting, not so much for self defense. Self defense demands a much higher degree of limb control and positioning.

Shane, …. Hand behind the head (in Muay Thai ) is not called Pluum. Grabbing the neck and/or arms involves Pluum which means = to wrestle. Keep studying.Peace.

That's what he said in the video... Neck grab is only a piece of the story. Keep listening.
