Thank you so much for being so good at breaking concepts down to like a 5 year old's level and still manage to not be the least bit condescending. That's a talent.
Rather than tempering damage while close, you can also temper damage while berserking. The double swing variant has essentially 100% uptime while berserking, and having >300% damage while berzerking has a synergistic effect with the “blood rage” paragon node, to give you an extra 30% multiplicative damage. (Shout out to rob for pointing that out in his videos on this build)
I’ve got dmg while berserking in every slot except amulet. My dust devils are averaging 500k dmg, not too happy with the damage output yet, wondering if I need to go more into dust devil size and see if ramaladini’s works with them
If you guys get lucky for an Uber n get starless, you can essentially have almost infinite resource n can literally roll for more Damage on everything. Rn I’m sitting close to 900k crit b about ~250vul damage n which I never have an issue w fury. I just need the fury generation on the chest. So I can have passive fury gen.
My favorite part of this build isn’t even the Dust Devils- it’s the Ancestral Charge aspect, battering into a full screen of enemies and exploding them all
So I started with this build, and I was thinking it felt really powerful, but hadn’t seen anyone talking about it post launch so wasn’t sure it was anything special, but was hoping Rax would try it because I thought he would enjoy it.
I really like how you break it down and talk through the written guides. I use maxroll for all my builds and help a friend of mine on her first journey into Diablo and there are always little parts that I don’t totally understand as I blindly follow the guide. Maybe you could make it a series to talk through and explain the strongest build guides??
Thank you so much dude!! I've wanted to make this build, but other videos don't go into the explanation of why we use certain skills or nodes as you do. As a guy that can't play that much this really helps. Thanks bro!!
I didnt pay much attention to the season changes prior, but my barb was a little slow to start, but following the guide, getting the 2 of the dust devil aspects, my guy started moving really good. fun build for sure, love the mobility and speed, once the fury issue gets handled.
Thanks Rax, I love these early season 'Great Build' guides. You sis one on Ball lightning in S2 and I immediately switched to it. In S3 Wudijo did one on the Charge Barbarian and it was the most fun build ever. Great job with your explanations, also.
Raxx...you are the man! I was trying to do this build on my own and I was really struggling with fury generation. I wasn't having fun so I decided to park my barb and hop on YT and check out what was good. I found this vid and it has been an absolute game changer. Your tips on everything have helped me so much that now I just walk through everything. Literally. This is the most fun I've had playing D4. Thank you!
I also am experimenting with this build. It's great. As for the Blood Rage node (at 13:00), you don't have to Men in Black erase the bleeding part from your memory if you pick-ul pe "Tough as Nails" skill (sacrifice 2 from Leap if you're comfortable) and it ensures that enemies bleed for 5 seconds after they hit you. But I don't know if you really need that extra Berserking or if by the end you get enough from other sources. So the build DOES have access to Bleeding if you care about that first part of the node. It's just 2 skill points. Edit: Since you're using Lunging strike, there's the skill to make enemies bleed on hit (but since you mostly use it for gap closers and not that often elsewhere it may not be viable). So just swapping out this skill means you won't need to take any points out from Leap.
Dude you make some the best and easiest to understand videos. I think the redhead still might struggle with not focusing on the first sentence. Let's call it the FTL build. I played for maybe 2 hrs before this patch. I just pulled 27 hrs with 2-2 hour naps. I think that pretty much sums it up
I've enjoyed this build even though I'm not close to geared, played HC first time last season and started with HC only this season. I killed my first barb on wt3 at 41 going too ham but had the damage. Just leveled second one to 49 or so gonna take on wt3 again on days off. Looking forward to destroying with double swing again. S3 double swing was my main barb on softcore. Love the content and explanation of build Raxx, ty.
never played barb in d4 all seasons necro & druid, but this one looked so amazing in your stream . i just started one 2 h ago and it is allrdy 46 . what a fckn blast. gone to t3 with 32 kind of unreal xD
Got my necro to 100 last night and was thinking about trying a barb when this video popped up in my notifications this morning. I randomly got a Dust Devil's polearm drop from the Blood Maiden, so I swapped to Whirlwind and now I'm having a blast tearing through helltides. Looking forward to seeing what this character can do at higher levels
Thanks so much for all you content I love how you show what you use at the start and not a min maxed end game build. It’s great when you go in to the details and explain everything so we have an understanding of what every thing is and why we have it. Thanks so much and keep up the amazing work.
In my almost 20 years of playing Diablo, I have never played Barb. I decided to this season, went to maxroll and picked either this or thorns. I picked this one and love it. Barb is fun and this build just feels so great to play. The affix that makes charge explode enemies coupled with the Holy Bolt potion just annihilates trash mobs in one shot and it’s so satisfying.
I enjoyed this build more than the necro one, I started the S4 with necro and suddenly got bored at level 40. now I am level 76 Barb and enjoying it! thanks for showcasing it RAX!
This build is absolutely amazing. I just got Tibs Will and Tusk helm so I made my own version of it since I don't like copy and pasting builds. I Double Swing, 3 Shouts, Wrath and Charge. Aspects I go Ancestral Charge + Brawling to absolutely blow up packs. Dust Devil aspects everywhere I can and I actually kept Vocal Empowerment but I am yet to test using something else in its place. Now that I have tusk and Tib I will try replacing Vocal to see how bossing is on my fury. I still need Yens and Opus though... Dope video btw!
Thanks for this. I had just got my Necro to 100 then saw this. Have been having a blast with this build now. It’s really a lot of fun. With all the changes they’ve made I’m genuinely enjoying D4 again. As always there’s a few minor niggles. But overwhelmingly I feel I am enjoying this now at least as much as POE. Getting what you need to build the core of what you want has never been eqsier and I really like that. Changing the Codex mechanic was one of the best things they did.
I started out the season with a barb and that tornado base damage was ridiculous. When i pressed a shout and 3 tornadoes fired off i was astounded. It is still the same to this point. Incredible. I didnt even follow a guide. Despite not minmaxing it i easily crushed pit 50 day 2. It is crazy.
I've been using this build guide so far this season and it rocks pretty dang hard. And the best part of it is that I don't have a SINGLE one of the Uniques from this guide. And it doesn't matter. You still just blast through everything with just the basic levels of MOST of the Legendary Powers. You don't even need all of them.
Been a Necro main this whole time.. then pow!! You came up with this barb build, so I took the bait and 12 hours later I have a new lease on life when it comes to D4. The in your face and punch you in the mouth style is what I was missing this whole time. Thanks for the insight brother
I just made my barb today and I did the 1st capstone at 35 and the 2nd capstone at 47 with very little issue except for casters…love this build so far, I stopped playing my 90 necro for this build so far.
I just hit 100 3 days ago, and masterworked everything to rank 4. I'm currently clearing nmd tier low to mid 80s, and mid 40s of the pit. I admit it was hard to cap resistances using this many uniques, but the build is solid.
Similarly to you Raxx, I am having a devil of a time trying to get the dust devil powers and am almost 50 and even w/o them, this build has been super strong.
Same! Had been playing mainly Rogue since the start of the game because it is just my kind of class. Was already great trying out Necro this season but it is the complete opposite of Rogue because you actually don't need to do anything than moving you character. Barb next. Then Sorc probably.
You've sold me on it, Brother. Been playing the MaxR Pen Shot Rogue and while it's super fun and powerful, my old fingers ain't really built for the Typing Dex Check that build is lol. And super nice to hear sometime about Barb that isn't "nerfs nerfs nerfs"!
I was watching when Raxx switched to this build. I switched from Upheaval immediately and I was melting mobs in T41 at level 78 (but I was a bit squishy)
Great video man I quit playing necro at lvl 75 to switch to a barb. I'm glad I went with dust devil build. Only level 55 but it's going to suit my playstyle so much more.
Whirlwind skill with Dust Devil Aspect, Aspect of Fierce Winds, and Devilish Aspect is the way to go. With all the added traits you mentioned, you produce 4+ Dust devils per second with a chance to double.
that's awesome, I'm not so much of a meta guy so I'm trying to make a dust devil with frenzy+double swing, so I get a ton of attack speed from battle trance, and when Im using frenzy I'm spawning dust devils with the fury generation, when it's full I'll spend with double swing and so on, I just love frenzy and am trying to make it work 😅
I went the WW Twister route and been destroying NMD so far. Cleared a 76 just now at level 84 with one death, that I could have avoided, but I looked away from the screen. Been having a lotta fun so far!
I started with the double swing version because that was the first power I found. What I like about it is that you can control where your dust devils go because wherever you double swing, the dust devil flies off in that direction. So early game, it allowed me to play ranged while I was still weak. However, once I got the whirlwind power, it was way more fun for me. I do have a love-hate relationship with the way the dust devils work while using whirlwind though... while it is nice that they fly out ahead of you (much better than trailing behind you like D3) the problem is when you are dealing with bosses. I would much prefer if the dust devils had smart targeting while using whirlwind. What I mean by this is that the dust devil should fly off in the direction of the nearest target prioritizing bosses, then elites, then normal mobs. So often while avoiding ground effects I'm just wasting time and resource waiting for the effect to go away when the dust devils could be actually doing something like I can control with double swing. All this to say that I prefer the whirlwind variant except for that one issue and would love it if you could make a follow up video to this one focusing on that build. I am using Maxroll's guide, but I enjoy your insight and comments around the builds you cover.
I created a similar build from the beginning, but with 1 defensive shout and with weapon change mastery. Whirl with bleed + weapon change triggered earthquake also (additional + 40 rage). It's a lot of fun to play, huge mobility, huge damage
Don't know if it's been said on the comments but for the blood rage legendary node bleeding part, you can get bleed on your build with Tough as nails on your skill tree. 2 points invested and bleed is on.
Thank you for the in depth discussion here. I missed the temper discussion and that's what I needed to see in this video! Trying the changes and I'll report back :)
Started out as a Whirlwind Barb, but it didn't feel great, so I switched to Double Swing. Lvl 95, Pit Tier 30, blasting through like a boss. God-tier build.
I do struggle against bosses at higher tiers, especially in the pit, but that's mostly due to skill and being bad at Diablo mechanics. I think bosses are where the Necro pet builds truly thrive - they melt bosses so fast. But when I finally got this build put together I thought it really awesome. It's super satisfying having that slow start before you become an engine of destruction. This build with the artillery shrine is the funniest thing. I did follow that guide and it's super well-put together. I do wish the Double Strike gauntlets had better symmetry with the build since those are really good.
For a source of bleed you can take the power that converts your damage while Berserking to Bleed damage if you can fit. Another option is to run Two Handed Sword as your weapon technique, but you are sacrificing 10% Vulnerable damage. The third is to put one point into Outburst and Tough as Nails, which will convert 10% of your thorns damage to Bleed.
My whirlwind build is using Aspect of Fierce winds in my build (Each shout spawns 3 dust devils). I have Rallying Cry, War Cry, Challenging Shout, and wrath of Berserker. Also have Dust devil and Devilish aspects running as well. So many Dust devils going everywhere. I will give your build a run though because I could use more survivability on mine.
Thanks boss for this motivational vid. Actually, I was surprised that you are also using double swing for the dust dev setup. It's literally obliterating mobs in the pit. I agree with you with regard to the fury genrators. Anyway, I think sir Rob is also using double swing as well. Kudos for this vid. 👍👏
Literally was playing this and about to switch to ww barb but realised that fouble swing felt really good. Then level 41 beat cap stone dungeon and ine shot like t11 rift. Level loke 65 vs 42 and it got DESTROYED. Builds wilddd
I’ve done 70 plus nmd 60 pits without holy bolt. Haven’t even used any yet lol but as of now, I feel like the damage has hit a wall. I can’t get past pit 60
@@mattL---you have to fully masterwork gear. It really taps out around 80. But is there any reason to go higher? Those high tiers heavily favor single target builds.
Raxx - get the aspect to reduce CD on brawling skills and go with bash for constant max fortify for defense and damage and have charge up for every elite pack - I did that and it’s even more godly. ❤
I use the Unique, Yen's Blessing which will periodically activate non-ultimate and non-movement skills that are on cooldown. So activating three shouts and entering combat then is on a continious fury loop while also randomly shouting while on cooldown, sending out the maximum amount of dust devils.
Whats hilarious is that this is literally the build I tried playing at launch. Double swing with the tornadoes and the whole leap quake synergy. It was pretty bad back then but it was fun. Eventually switched over to hota but glad to see more barb build variety this season. I started sorc but im not a huge fan. Going to switch over to barb and play this and probably a gen build.
First barb build for me in D4. I am having so much fun playing this build. I don't know if it's the S4 changes or this build in particular, but my god, I can't put the controller down.
My favorite part about this build unironically is the aspect that spawns dust devils when you generate fury. It's hilarious when random mobs attack me and immediately die because 3 dust devils spawned right on top of them. And with multiple sources of fury generation sometimes I kill a thing with charge and it creates dust devils. And I'm only level 72. This build all geared up at 100 is gonna be crazy.
we were strong in season one then got nerfed in the ground cause people wouldn't stfu. welcome to the family.but druids were doing this type thing in season 1 and 2. thank you for the guide i left after season 2 cause it was garbage i came back to this build im digging it thanks for the help.
@Raxxanterax you actually are able to leap down cliffs and over some walls in the game similar to PoE leapslam which makes leap even more value as a traversal skill imo. It is kind of weird which stuff you can and cant. An example would be at min 2:35, most terrain that has a step down you are able to leap rather than have the character physically climb down. Ive also noticed in some dungeons with walls and doorways that sometimes youll just leap over random ones haha.
Great video man! This is the build I’m working on and I absolutely love it and I’m just a newbie. Now I regret missing seasons 1-3. Keep up the good content!
I found the triple shout version of this build kind of pointless when I got so much resource reduction My double swing is down to like 14 I think. And I have over 150 fury. I spawn so many tornadoes if I had triple shout I couldn't have any more tornadoes cuz you only max it 15 at a time So at that point triple shot becomes kind of pointless work like rax uses in this only one. And I'm finally I found a good variant of the build I've been kind of using so I can reference this guide now which is dope. Thank you
I started out as a Druid during pre S1 then completely stopped. So I tried doing necro minions now on S4 managed to complete the build-“ish” but it kind didnt click with me. Gonna definitely try this been wanting to do barb since s2. Thanks for the guide Raxx!
If you want to have bleed as well for this build you can slot in berserk ripping aspect somewhere. we're always berserking so basically any hit bleeds.
actually we can add bleeding if you put 1 point in outburst passive and one point tough as nails. any enemy that hits you gets bleeding damage. so it’s even more damage and extra synergy for this build
there are 4 ways to spawn dust devils, not only 2: The mentioned: 1) Whirlwind 2) Double Swing others: 3) generate 100 Fury 4) Casting Shouts I play Frenzy and every 1-2 seconds i launch 2 dust devils by just spamming the base attack. Im not that destructive yet, but i can easily clear L7 Pit with a L80 Barb. (and not optimized at all regarding the paragorn points, just did what feels right)
Fam d4 feels amazing this season. My shadow necro melts everything. Definitely gonna make an alt. Only played barbarian once and that was last season. I think I’m gonna make this too.
Thank you so much for being so good at breaking concepts down to like a 5 year old's level and still manage to not be the least bit condescending. That's a talent.
Rather than tempering damage while close, you can also temper damage while berserking. (Shout out to rob for pointing that out in his videos on this build)
the berserking category only has 3 choices. I spend all my rolls and only getting damage when wrath of the berserker is active.
Exactly what i wanted to ask about. Why should we pick close dmg over berserking dmg?
@@Asocialovo you shouldn't. zerker dmg all the way
I’ve got dmg while berserking in every slot except amulet. My dust devils are averaging 500k dmg, not too happy with the damage output yet, wondering if I need to go more into dust devil size and see if ramaladini’s works with them

D4 S4 feels good, from leveling, boss farming, and the pit. Bravo Blizz!
This is the build I have been playing since the start of the season. I'm so glad raxx is using it I knew he would have fun with it
My favorite part of this build isn’t even the Dust Devils- it’s the Ancestral Charge aspect, battering into a full screen of enemies and exploding them all
I like ancestral charge + brawlers, just blows up all the trash
Sooo satisfying

Whirlwind skill with Dust Devil Aspect, Aspect of Fierce Winds, and Devilish Aspect is the way to go. With all the added traits you mentioned, you produce 4+ Dust devils per second with a chance to double.
that's awesome, I'm not so much of a meta guy so I'm trying to make a dust devil with frenzy+double swing, so I get a ton of attack speed from battle trance, and when Im using frenzy I'm spawning dust devils with the fury generation, when it's full I'll spend with double swing and so on, I just love frenzy and am trying to make it work 😅
I’m gonna give it a try, I never really messed with double swing in previous seasons.
I went the WW Twister route and been destroying NMD so far. Cleared a 76 just now at level 84 with one death, that I could have avoided, but I looked away from the screen. Been having a lotta fun so far!
I was watching you outperform my level 100 Frozen Orb Sorc (only missing unique amulet for 95% perfect build) at level 58 LOL. This build is insane.
I got to this build organically just by playing around with Barb this season. Was a devil/ WW to start with but ended at DS. A fun time anyway.
As somone who is new i appreciate going over the skill tree.
Started out as a Whirlwind Barb, but it didn't feel great, so I switched to Double Swing. Lvl 95, Pit Tier 30, blasting through like a boss. God-tier build.
This is actually one that I want to try eventually. This is awesome.
Was leveling the 🥶 Sorc but it felt limited. Gonna try this. Thank you.
Maybe show a higher tier dungeon? At lvl 100 with just your core affixes any build can speed run a tier 40z
true lol plus he had the potion with the bolts the OS monsters his video didnt prove sh1t lol ;
I’ve done 70 plus nmd 60 pits without holy bolt. Haven’t even used any yet lol but as of now, I feel like the damage has hit a wall. I can’t get past pit 60
Yeah I feel like a lot of these yt do this kinda annoying
Great in-depth guide, nice job Rex!
So glad I rolled a barb this season. First time since season 1. I'm running 3 shouts and, just like your dungeon run, nothing stands a chance
Started Whirlwind barb, and switch to this, and this build is so crazy and strong
As soon as the game gave me a 3 star Magnum Opus, I knew it was a sign to do something fun with the barb
I'm in the early stages of DD whirlwind but this video is making me want to switch to this. Thanks for the guide!
Great video man! This is the build I’m working on and I absolutely love it and I’m just a newbie. Now I regret missing seasons 1-3. Keep up the good content!
Season 1 to 2 was o
Pretty shit, you lost nothing
Playing this build and it's just wow the damage and the speed is just amazing
If you want to have bleed as well for this build you can slot in berserk ripping aspect somewhere. we're always berserking so basically any hit bleeds.
Always looking for a Whirlwind build. Great that there is a variant for it with an S-Tier Build.
I've been playing this build and it's been so much fun!! my first time playing barb as well
actually we can add bleeding if you put 1 point in outburst passive and one point tough as nails. any enemy that hits you gets bleeding damage. so it’s even more damage and extra synergy for this build
there are 4 ways to spawn dust devils, not only 2:
The mentioned:
1) Whirlwind
2) Double Swing
others:
3) generate 100 Fury
4) Casting Shouts
I play Frenzy and every 1-2 seconds i launch 2 dust devils by just spamming the base attack.
