I thought it was more to do with how much Urban's performance was so similar to Kelley that Nimoy said it was just like seeing him again? Still a fantastic compliment to Karl Urban either way though.
Spock's verbal middle finger to the Vulcan Science Academy should've received a win. I must add that seeing Anton Yelchin in _anything_ now makes me sad.
Your final remarks about how it is okay to like (or love) the new Star Trek were very well spoken. Star Trek has been with me my whole life of 54 years and I love the reboot and am thankful for it, like you. The negativity comes from a type of fan I have no interest in knowing.
My parents got me into Star Trek when I was a little kid, and as of now, it is one of the biggest parts of my life. I love all shows and this reboot. It just brings me such joy. This movie came out when I was 12 about to be 13, and now that I'm 26, I love it and all of Trek more. Live long and prosper, my friend
I’m 40 grew up on TNG while my dad told me about every episode of TOS that he could remember(all of them) This movie is great. Might even be my favorite of all trek movies.
@@AdamTPersonetteMy much older sister is very much a Star Trek fan, and as soon as I turned 12 she showed me TOS. I adored it, and it influenced me quite a lot. (When I grew older, I reached towards every leadership role possible, and disciplined myself to be a good leader.) My sister wasn't so keen on the Kelvin timeline films, but she encouraged me to watch them nonetheless. I adored them even more, simply because my friends wanted to watch them with me, and I could steer them to original Trek. I'll always be grateful to the Kelvin timeliness films.
Great video, but you kind of gloss over one thing a lot of people seem to miss. They all argue about "prime timeline" vs "kelvin timeline" and complain about Abrams' reboot without seeming to realize that by having Nimoy's Spock time-travel, they keep the prime timeline in canon. There is no "either/or". Therefore Abrams' Star Trek is _not_ a reboot, it's a pre-sequel, the 11th movie in the ongoing series, not the first movie in a new series.
it IS a reboot, in that a reboot is a film/series/whatever that breaths new life into a dead or dying franchise. a reboot CAN be canon and even a sequel. but i thought it was genius to do it the way they did here. as as you said, the original timeline is still canon.
+Clayton Courtney ~ I'll admit it's a bit of a clumsy term, but afaik there's no existing term for it. It's a "prequel" in that it takes place before prime canon TOS, but it's a "sequel" in that it also takes place some time _after_ 'Star Trek: Insurrection' in prime timeline chronology. In fact, one kind of abstract way to look at it is; instead of thinking of it as Spock going to the past, think of it more like the past got pulled up to Spock's present. The closest analogy I can think of would be the ancient way they used to move heavy objects by rolling them forward on logs, and when the rearmost log came out from the back, it got moved to the front and started the same journey again, only this time over different ground.
The Romulans and Spock traveling back in time created the new timeline, or alternate universe, so they are stuck in the new timeline. People travel back and forth with alternate timelines in Star Trek all the time.
As a massive Trek fan (like, know the names and classes of almost all the ships) well done for winning this movie. I enjoyed it, too. Best of luck with Into Darkness ;)
EK OddLink maybe the fact that its like 10 times the size of the original 1701, in memory alpha it states that the jj-prise was a bit longer than picards enterprise E which was alot bigger than the og 1701
Alex Nedrud That's one Reason the Trek fandom dislikes it, but that is only a miniscule reason why. The Trekkies are SUUUUPER petty when it comes to the Enterprise design. I mean the smallest difference between the a design could make them say it's an abomination or a masterpiece.
I absolutely LOVE how they used silence to make dramatic scenes more dramatic. And that the timelines separating gives so much more freedom to the reboot.
I don't get why people hate the Kelvin timeline. Star Trek has used time travel and alternate dimensions in every iteration. I cant remember the name of TNG episode where Worf keeps going between alternate dimensions where he's married to Troy but if you can accept the multiverse then a universe where the Kelvin is destroyed has to exist. Maybe they should have done what Marvel and DC do and given this version a number. I love Superman as a hero but I also enjoyed the Injustice storyline a lot. In TOS there is a universe where the Federation is evil. Wait. Did DC get the Injustice idea from Star Trek? Combining Star Trek and DC maybe this is the Flashpoint Federation. I'm way off topic.
I doubt it. The multiverse/many-worlds concept goes back a long way so I doubt that injustice got the idea from Star Trek, but if they did, I'll add it to the long list of things Star Trek has brought into the world (like Star Wars!) and that still receives attention. Although Star Trek and Marvel are apparently semi-canon together (Star Trek/X-Men crossover), so I wouldn't be surprised if Star Trek and DC exist together somewhere as well XD.
Because Worf goes back to his correct, original timeline. The "Kelvin Timeline" not only negates all the fun of the original stories, but it's sloppy. Why does Nero want to get revenge when he could simply use the opportunity to prevent the disaster in the first place? Why does a mining vessel have such effective weapons against warships? Why is anyone surprised the Romulan sun exploded when such things would have centuries of warning? Why is the Enterprise built on Earth? Why is young Kirk racing a car, listening to the Beastie Boys? That would be like a teen today speeding off in a covered wagon, blasting Johann Sebastian Bach...so edgy!!! Horrible movie.
@@kev3d “The Kelvin timeline negates all the fun in the original stories” No, it doesn’t! You can still enjoy those things. I still have my TOS DVDs here at home, they didn’t magically become invalid because of the new timeline! Spock Prime’s presence literally confirms this.
As an OG Star Trek fan, I think you are missing the point on what JJ "Lens flare" Abrahams actually achieved. He rebooted this franchise in the ONLY way possible to appease old fans (that get what I'm about to say), and new followers (that have no idea what I am saying) of this awesome universe. He created an ALTERNATE timeline. Nothing was reset. This is it's own thing. No one needs to froth. Nothing was undone. As soon as that huge Romulan mining ship appeared through a singularity and devastated the Kelvin...everything changed. From that point on, as James Tiberius Kirk was being born, there was a split. (And before anyone goes ballistic, OG Spock also went through a worm hole. That's why he is in this movie. JJ is not a dummy, so save your rantings. There are TWO Spocks, like in this movie...as well as TWO kirks, the other Kirk did not go through a wormhole...HELLO?) JJ, in one fail swoop, just established that everything that we know and love about this franchise still exists...somewhere, in all of it's "Kahn" screaming Shatner glory, but he also puts forth: "Here's what could have happened...with a bigger budget." That's worth like...756 wins. Seriously. As a reboot...this could not have been done any better or with more reverence to the the established universe that came before him...and the casting was absolutely phenomenal. JJ nailed it...Three times. JJ is a genius...with a box...of mystery. lol. I hope he makes more. (Please, JJ...after the Star Wars thingy...make more of these) And Pine...in any timeline, ends up in a wheelchair. See what I mean? These multiverse things are difficult to get your head around. I do not fault you. It's complex. Like JJ.
Plus JJ's Goal was to attract new fans and keep the franchise relevant because no TV network wanted to touch Star Trek at the time. It worked...never really got into Star Trek until Abrams films, now I own almost the entire series on DVD and tearing ass through the episodes.
I love JJ Abrams. I think he's just one of those under-appreciated directors in the business. Really love Force Awakens, it's just a shame The Last Jedi turned the Sequel Trilogy into a disjointed mess. Things were going great until they killed off Luke Skywalker, as well as Snoke.
I don't understand this films hate man. The fact that Abrams can be loathed for star wars ep 7 for not being original and star trek being too different by the same person is ludicrous.
Not really, I think it exposes what is wrong with both actually. This movie is too much like a Star Wars movie, and episode 7 is too much like the old Star Wars movies. I personally happen to like both movies, but I also absolutely agree with both criticisms
Yep, I first saw this when it came out. I was 1. Now, 12 years later, it makes me feel so old but also takes me back. So does TNG since that was one of the first shows my dad introduced me to (a lot of Sci-fi/fantasy shows and movies now that I think about it...)
Arguably one of the best opening moments of a movie ever. And I absolutely love the score to the new films. Nothing will ever top the Star Wars theme, but the new Star Trek theme is a solid second place.
Hungry Hungry Hobo the Star Wars theme has absolutely no emotion in it apart from the Force Theme. This theme gives u the chills... Makes u want to get out there and see the wonder of the universe around us. The opening theme of Star Wars sounds like a military march. As i said, no emotion except for ur nostalgia clouding ur judgement. If u wanyt a goid theme, fill it with some real emotion and not some blaring military march. Thats why I dont really like Star Wars theme or the 1978 Superman theme. They dont give u any feels and feel too cartoonish
As a DIE HARD fan of Star Trek since I was a kid I grew up watching TNG DS9 Voyager TOS Enterprise and all the movies, this was a great tribute to the franchise. I loved this movie when it came out and the following movie Into Darkness. Unfortunately Star Trek Beyond didn't quite reach the same level, even though I do like it. Thanks for your great review of what is good about this movie. It stands out as one fantastic piece of Star Trek greatness!
This video is a breath of fresh air. I've enjoyed these new films thus far, for the same reasons, and share the same views in your rant. For the record, this new timeline has now been officially dubbed the "Kelvin Timeline", thanks to the Star Trek: Online MMORPG.
You have the minority on your thinking. And since doing things by the lesser vote is "trendy" here in the US, I would like to offer up my 1st Amendment and say Fuck this shitty "hipster" Star Wars ass fuck JJ aka Jar Jar fucking star trek.. And anyone who likes it!
I freaking love your optimism, there are so many people and channels that focus on nitpicking and it is so awesome that you look for the good in things! Keep doing what your doing
Dune was the original literary Sci-Fi classic, Star Trek was the original TV Sci-Fi classic, and while Star Wars started as the original film Sci-Fi classic (other than Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Wrath of Khan), it evolved into the Space Fantasy sub-genre. Also, CinemaWins didn’t constrain his love of Star Trek, so I wasn’t surprised when he revealed his love for Star Trek at the end of the video.
I love voyager myself that show got me liking Star Trek then I watched ds9 both of these faster paced elements made me love Star Trek until I was older and could understand the hidden meanings of TNG and TOS and after watching all of trek voyager also captured the essence of the "to go where no man has gone before"
YAY! A fellow TNG lover! Although I started on TOS back in the 80s rerun syndication - followed by the premier of Wrath of Khan on HBO at my grandpa's house in 1982, my 'coming of age' generation Star Trek was - in fact - The Next Gen. Personally, my favorite character was DeLancie's Q. He was the bookends to the TNG who completed the series 'circle of life.' Plus, DeLancie also guest starred on DS9 (getting punched by Sisko) and Voyager (in the civil war of the Q arc that eventually introduced Keagan DeLancie as Q2 - Q's son and real life son), thus tying the triad of the three series together. And, no. No one will ever, ever replace Nimoy! Man, my heart still aches when I think of him. (And Anton Yelchin as well, who was a great young Kyle Reese in that one Terminator movie which nobody speaks of... besides Genysis). Oh - and I LOVE the new Trek reboots.... and Star Wars. I'm not really sure how people can be dark side and light side about their love/hate relationship of Star Trek versus Star Wars. What, no gray area? TNG Episode name drop! Anyway, comparing the two sci-fi giants are akin to comparing apples and oranges. While there is space, space-ships, and aliens in both syndications - neither Star Wars nor Star Trek revolve around the same time span, universe, or mythos === Hey! Apples and oranges are both fruit, but neither look nor taste the same, right? And a person can still love both, right? ---> ST & SW's unifying connection are actually Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic, whom were credited for the FX on both the Star Wars movies and the Original Trek & Reboot Trek movies.
Nice job with this. TNG followed closely by DS9 are my favorite series too. And I also enjoy both Star Wars and Star Trek, both Picard and Kirk, and so forth. I may _prefer_ Star Trek and Picard, but that doesn't mean I also like the other. The squabbling by fans on one side versus the other quickly gets old.
what if the point is not one or the other. why can't they make sense in one, star trek universe wich the new movies don`t. picking and choosing what elements of how the trek universe works instead changing it to look stupid and flashy rather than just spicing up the cannon tec little. Then the movie writers just leave things like STO to try and fit the new stuff fit into/with the normal universe.
+John Hague yea well if it werent for the new movies we prolly wouldnt be getting the new star trek discovery tv show in 2017 because enterprise did a bang up job of killing the movie and tv franchises for a couple years till we got the jj abrams reboot man
jeremy roberts I see where you are coming from but, Wile enterprise is a not the best show ever. Yet, is not as bad as it gets slated as, it went of the rails with the temporal stuff. Also, i am not sure that we should be looking forward to this not tv show. As if it terns out to be like the new movies, it will likely destroy all faith of ppl hoping that star trek will regain it identity.
+CinemaWins what I love about this movie, and into darkness, is that they make Star Trek mainstream. I'm a huge fan of Star Trek, but none of my friends used to be. When they saw those two movies, they saw a fun action blockbusters, which is something everyone loves these days. But at the same time, the movies introduced them to the concept of Star Trek, and made them want to see the shows. Are the reboot movies full Star Trek? No. But they told new stories in a manor the fits the times we live in.
CinemaWins On an unrelated note I would like to see you talk about The Lost World: Jurrassic Park, youre a really entertaining critic and I hope your channel grows more
because! it's so hard to imagine that someone liked this film so much. it's so incredibly boring, and doesn't seem to have any respect to the source material. plus, it looks very flashy and glittery, i bet it won't age well. the only good thing about this film is that it won't be remembered. and you call this "best Star Trek Movie ever"! ...how??? but whatever, who am I to talk, i'm a fan of the prequel trilogy:D
+Mary42877 Well. I can explain a bit i suppose. But bare in mind thats it's just my opinion. First off: I am a trekkie and saw all there was to see. But i really didnt like ToS. Especially most of the cast. The number one spot of annoying people that feature in ToS has to be Scotty. Followed closely by Kirk himself. Only Bones and Spock save the show. So now we have this reboot that replaces all the annoying people with nice actors (Especially Bones en Scotty are awesome) Then they created an alternative timeline so they they where not bound by past lore. Which i like obviously. Then there is the great dialogue, humor and special effects. And did I mention that it was a trilling ride? More then all previous movies put together? Does this answer the question?
"Time to take that red shirt off..." nice one, I hadn't noticed that that was his character! Good nod to the original. And I really enjoyed Pine's "Shatnering"
I'm sure there are tons of people like us who love the new Ent design it's just that any time we try to say something positive about it fanboys get offended and start raising pitchforks and torches and try to run off us.
@@EKOddLink - I like it too, especially since Star Trek Online with my Kelvin Timeline Constitution-class Heavy Command Cruiser, the U.S.S. Jupiter NCC-1734 under the command of Phillip Christopher Pike.
I think their equal. CinemaSins is funnier, has slightly better execution, and came up with the original idea. CinemaWins, however, is still really funny, well written, and, yes, being positive about movies is really fun.
Well, the quality of Cinemasins has dipped recently, and too often the criticisms are either unfounded, misinformed, or just rather douchey. The earlier analyses were insightful but lately the host just amped up the salt and toned down the actual analysis. I still love the channel, but I appreciate the Wins' positive spin. It's very refreshing in a UA-camverse full of salty and angry movie critics.
I just adore watching both cinemawins and cinemasins! I love cinemasins for the sarcasm and obvious humor to not-as-obvious "flaws". It's also a great way to watch and maybe get out some of the frustrations with continuity with movies that people gloss over or whatever. Cinemawins is great for some feel good and overall/specific moments in the movies that they "win". Cinemawins is also a great way to get/experience the morals/meanings of the movies and how well they cover these. Both channels are great!!!! Keep it up!
@@puckerings I agree, but I've come to terms with it being more satirical and for the comedy value more than a legit bashing of movies! Once I came to terms with that I started to enjoy it even more!
I love the positive nature of this channel and watch a few vids each week (and always let the ads play too lol). While I think the bulk of new timeline is hysterical and eye rolling, there's no denying that the cast is really good and the near star wars-esque look and special effects, at long last, are fantastic and way overdue. With the exception of Rogue and Empire, I always thought the message of ST was better than SW. No magic and drama within two families, just science and people caring for something bigger than themselves. (I'm the weirdo among my nerd friends by liking TNG and Voyager, so I'm sure the SW/ST thing will only add to that lol.) Again though, this channel is such a welcome place to relax, see things differently and learn some good trivia too, and do it without raging fanboys or overly fawning ones either. Well done.
I really like those other Star Trek series too. Since I started out loving Star Trek as a young teen in the mid-1960s, seeing it continue has been wonderful. When the original was cancelled after only 3 years, I didn’t ever expect to see it again. Back then when a show got the axe, it was depressing because reruns were not common and usually a show just died.
You are one of the few people who seemed to get the reverse exploration of Kirk and Spock's characters, which was one of the biggest joys for me. Kirk is learning control. Learning logic. Learning to be responsible and to think before acting. His entire character arc in the first 2 movies is based around this. By the same token, Spock's character in the alternate timeline is leaning way more towards his human side, learning to struggle with deep emotions and emotional responses. Any of us who are trekkies know how dangerous this is for Vulcans. Seeing Spock daringly go down this path is both fun and very interesting. They don't hide it either. There is a great scene in Into Darkness where Spock admits his deep feelings to Uhura. Then later in the movie, the rage Khan inspires in him, and how he blatantly goes after Khan, letting his emotion take over and the rage making him a formidable adversary to Khan hand to hand. That moment is eluded to earlier on when Khan tells Spock "You can't even break a rule how would you be expected to break bone?" Into Darkness was a HIGHLY underrated movie in my opinion PLEASE while I'm sure it is already on your itinerary do a cinema wins vid for that movie as well. I love your channel and even more respect for you being a trekkie. Thanks and cheers!
Thank you for making this! Gene Roddenberry would have loved this film. I've been a hard core fan since 1974, had a great experience watching these reboots.
One of the things I appreciate is that this reboot never "overrode" the original one. The events at the start of the movie _split_ the timeline into the main timeline and the Kelvin timeline. With the various series, Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks and Prodigy all staying in the main timeline, it's clear that nothing has been erased.
I saw this film FOUR times in the theatre. Blew my mind. Bought the disc and have watched it repeatedly since then. My ONLY gripe is the water pipe scene SHOT IN A BREWERY... it takes me out of the film. Other than that, it's epic brilliance... the opening, nero and the scale of the Romulan ship, the mud-flea gag, the free-fall down the drill, the ice monster, the Red Matter, Quinto-Spock really wrestling with his two heritages, and more. Just so good!
So J.J. Abrams resourcefully shooting in a real location that looks close enough to what it’s supposed to be in-universe “takes [you] out of the film”? That’s on you for not being in the film in the first place.
Star Trek (2009) is 15 years old! I remember seeing it with my sister Cara opening weekend My late father really liked it on dvd too There’s so many great action scenes of the space battles, lots of callbacks and inside references to the franchise, the acting is amazing from everyone involved bringing the characters to life, and a great amount of laughs JJ Abrams and the writers have even made their own ways of using time travel, alternate realities, and rewriting history This definitely came as a shock to many since the filmmakers took a big risk by resetting the timeline making so many changes, in a way the older movies happened but this is the Enterprise Crew going on a different path than what they were originally intended giving them modern sensibilities and “human” desires bringing enough steamy friction All the actors perfectly bring these characters we know and love to life in a new fashion Michael Giacchino’s score can be very bombastic at times, like really scale it back a bit plus the movie does slow down a lot during the middle Still it provides great visuals, surefire thrills, a well-made fun adventure, and paved the way for many of these actors making $385.7 million worldwide even winning an Oscar for best makeup It doesn’t alienate casual viewers while still catering to the hardcore fans And it’s incredible this got made the way it did considering Hollywood was suffering another writers strike almost halting production Abrams and writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman manage to successfully reboot this series creating the kind of popcorn excitement you’d expect; they even remind the audience that heroes still bleed, they also love but also make mistakes It delivers almost everything you want in a summer movie while also respecting the franchise that has endured for over 60 years This is the movie that made me a bonafide Trekkie for life! Most would argue it might even be better than Wrath of Khan
I agree with almost everything you have to say in this. I feel the same way about the Kelvin Timeline movies as you do. (Though the Refit Connie is still my favorite. The new one is nice, but not quite there...) However, *how could you not win the Enterprise rising from Titan?!* I know that it’s not the most sensible thing to edit warp right in to an atmosphere (then again there’s that scene in Voyage Home...) but that is by far the *best* shot of the Enterprise in the entire movie! It’s shot from this Enterprise’s best angle, has the score done perfectly, and the red clouds parting away looked incredible! I’m shocked that you didn’t win that... (*Yes* I know I’m really behind on posting this...)
I agree. I have not watched the TOS, or TNG, But I have seen many shows and movies depicting starships, and I have to say, Abram’s Enterprise rising from Titan, was the most beautiful. The moment I saw her pull it off, I came to realize... This is the Enterprise that is to live up to the original Enterprise who did an excellent job living up to her Namesake, CV-6 Enterprise who defied fate in the second World War. Beautifully done.
@@Ranger215able My dad was a veteran of WWII (USN,Pacific) and loved the original series. There was peace on Earth and he liked that so very much. When it was cancelled, he was very upset. I believe that he would have loved the Kelvin timeline movies!!!
You don't know how happy I am to find someone who likes both sides when it comes to franchise arguments. I love your happy and amusing commentary and I hope you do more videos!
Not a huge Star Trek fan, but I might try and watch some episodes before I make final judgments. Anyway, not what my comment is about. I think it's great that you're not like the people completely incapable of tolerating the other content in a universe/IP. Star Trek is great, even if I don't enjoy it as much as other stuff, and liking one or both of the shows doesn't mean you're any more or less of a fan. Enjoy what you enjoy. It's all meant to entertain.
One thing that I would suggest is skipping the original series and going straight to The Next Generation. And be prepared to think. I love TNG because it's more about philosophy, human nature, and a hopeful look at what humanity should be. Sure, there is plenty of doofy stuff with reversing polarities and graviton pulses and whatnot, but when you look past that, TNG is great.
Porfle Popnecker I gotta be honest, I can't stand it. I realize it's a classic and all, but I can only handle the level of hokiness that TNG or other more recent shows offer. TOS is just a little too... Shatnery.
I just want to say you really did a great job in your discussion here. I'm so glad there are other Trekkies (or Trekkers, whichever you prefer) out there who love the new movies as much as I do. And the old movies / TV shows. I still haven't seen all the TAS episodes, but I'm working on it. Great video!
This channel gives me life and cures my depression, literally. I come here and rewatch some of the videos for your amazing positivity, I hope you will never lose it. That rant at the end is words that I live by. You can love everything.
One of my favorite things in this movie is that each of the main characters got their individual moments to shine, and they each played a specific part in the success of the operation. My wife, who otherwise does not even like sci-fi, loved this movie and saw it multiple times in the theater.
Almost 4 years later, still love this movie. The other new ones are action flicks that I don't mind, but this one was GOOD! The casting and character interplay was tight and fun, and makes up for any plot holes that do exist.
I watch it often and so happy to see my favorite TV series, keep being made into films and new TV series. This old trek fan (was a young teen when it first aired in 1966) is happy to see younger people appreciate it too.
Great job with the vid. I enjoyed every minute of it (and your Into Darkness & Beyond vids). I am one of those Trekkies who discovered Star Trek via J.J.'s 2009 reboot, and thus will always be partial to the Kelvin Timeline. (I have nothing against the other shows/timeline, but J.J.'s Kelvin was my first.) My dad has been and always will be a TOS Trekkie, but for some reason never shared his fandom with me. It was only after my brother picked up ST'09 that I realized what I was missing out on. I am constantly astounded by just how well J.J. incorporated, not just TOS, but TNG, Enterprise, DS9, and Voyager into his reboot without simply remaking each series or being entirely too obvious in his parallels and quotes. I appreciate how you, as an obvious Trekkie geek, acknowledge these hat tips, and point them out for us newbies. LLAP
Not only is this review highly entertaining, it is genuine to the passions of the critic (Chris). Its not some empty, high fulutent bullshit. You guys are talented and bring a unique formula to an overblown youtube forum- film reviews. Film critiques are a dime a dozen on UA-cam. But you guys are the archtype in my book. Keep up the great work.
The biggest win of this film is that it gets people like me (who previously thought Star Trek was for geeks and nerds) enjoy (an albeit small part of) this franchise. It really did blow me away
In highschool I watched this movie. After talking about it with an old friend, who was a full blown trekkie at the time, he let me borrow all 7 seasons of his TNG DVDs. I lost interest at around season 3, but a year later I picked it up again on my own and have never stopped since. I'm 25 now, turning 26 next month, and I've blown through all of TNG, followed by DS9, the original series, and am now working on Voyager. In all honesty my life has never been the same and, despite the occasional campy acting and special effects, Star Trek has enriched my life in ways that I'll never be able to fully explain in words.
Love these films, and helps show where our world could end up if we unified. Sure, Star Trek isn't for everyone, but watching this film encouraged me to watch TOS and the rest is history
It's a real breath of fresh air to have something positive instead of the usual "all movies are shit" mentality that a lot of movie-based channels have. Keep it up! :)
But like others have said the things that are great about the room are also the things that are horrible about it. I don't even think it's a movie but a documentary into Tommy Wusos mind.
Lol they actually mistranslated something in the german version: In the scene at the end, where Kirk offers to save Nero and he responds with "I'd rather die..." in the german version he says "I'd rather see my planet get destroyed a thousand times than to accept your help"
For me the best things about Star Trek (2009) were: 1. The intro to the movie. The whole bit with Kirk's dad was pure win and really put me in the right move to enjoy the rest of the film. 2. All the references and call backs to TOS. Everytime they said a quote or pointed out a detail about the universe, the little trekkie in me just went wild. So much fun.
I watch all three of the Kelvin timelines a lot, great films. Having been a teen when the original series got the axe, it’s fantastic to see it continue for new generations of fans.
The lack of gravity and the fact that the ship needs to get to space eventually anyway is why they build in space. Plus starships are usually very delicate. But I'm cool with it.
Agreed. It's much more convenient to build in a light-weight (or no weight, as it were) environment. It cuts down the need for all of those giant platforms, as well.
dj2neo In a world full of spaceships, where they have the capability to build in space, they would. Which makes it odd that they would do it on Earth. It's less convenient and prone to more problems that could just be crossed out entirely if they were in a weightless environment. Building a spaceship in space makes more sense.
There is a large amount of stress placed on any body when it is gravity. After it is built, you would then need the ship to be able to lift itself out of the planet's gravity far enough that it can fall around the planet (orbit). Unless you plan to land the giant ship on other planets, it does not make sense to incorporate the large amount of downwards thrust to achieve this for the first launch.
I like the way the film subtly reminds you of the time jump, like slightly updated ships and improved tactics. It never goes THIRTY YEARS LATER and I appreciate that. Gives the viewer more to look at.
This film, for me, is the one I would take to a desert Island, I love how the "new" actors reproduced the orignial characteristics so that very quickly it was like watching the original..back in the day,. The script was brilliant with humour action and heart string pulls, and the music OMG....and lastly the legend that IS Leonard Nimoy
This is one of the best Cinema Wins I have seen yet! As a TOS fan, I LOVE this movie and you pointed out every reason why. Thank you for finding the positive with things instead of focusing on the negative. Well done!
I just found out this channel a few days ago and this is becoming my favorite channel. Ever. Love all the positivity and we all could use some of that. Keep up the good work! X.
Here are my suggestions for future videos: Avengers 2 Thor 2 Iron Man 3 The Incredible Hulk Daredevil Hellboy Pacific Rim The Da Vinci Code Illuminati Crimson Peak. the Harry Potter franchise the Percy Jackson failed franchise Eragon Pirates of the Caribbean franchise Burton's Alice in Wonderland Anything else to suggest?
I loved the video and your explanation of the black hole scene. This shows that if truly want to defend and explain Star Trek you should have a true Trek nerd do it.
+abdoulhay ceesay about time someone actually agrees with me, cause u either love the movie or u hate, most movie critics for the newpapers hate this film
I completely agree with your closing monologue. I even dare to say that Enterprise would've gone on to its full potential if they didn't rush it out after Voyager ended. It was clear when Voyager ended that it was time for a break, but rather than doing so they got it out and it died when it was just hitting its stride. I even think that its direction of being more serialized as opposed to stand-alone was good when compared to other shows.
The creators actually wanted a break but Paramount wanted a new series ASAP. In fact Paramount wanted it to air along side the final season of voyager but Berkman convinced them to wait till after Voyager finished airing
It's worth noting that when Leonard Nimoy saw this movie, he actually wept at how much DeForest Kelley would have loved Karl Urban's take on him.
Owwwwwwwwwww
Oh fr, that’s actually really sweet!
I thought it was more to do with how much Urban's performance was so similar to Kelley that Nimoy said it was just like seeing him again? Still a fantastic compliment to Karl Urban either way though.
Awwww
Leonard live long and prosper in our hearts
Dang.
Spock's verbal middle finger to the Vulcan Science Academy should've received a win.
I must add that seeing Anton Yelchin in _anything_ now makes me sad.
At that moment, I said, "That is the nicest way to say 'fxxk you' that I've ever heard."
Macsen Phloudio makes me hate jeeps with its failed design..😖😞
Agreed on both counts 👏 👏
I actually recently saw an episode of Criminal Minds he starred in.
Long story short....

Yeah, I still get sad also.
Your final remarks about how it is okay to like (or love) the new Star Trek were very well spoken. Star Trek has been with me my whole life of 54 years and I love the reboot and am thankful for it, like you. The negativity comes from a type of fan I have no interest in knowing.
I hope fans like you are louder than "those" type of fans mann:(
@@kantoorhandook6595 That is our responsibility..! Let us never stop doing that!! ^^
I’m 40 grew up on TNG while my dad told me about every episode of TOS that he could remember(all of them)
This movie is great.
When Spock flipped the Council off with "Live long and prosper" I loved it so much, too. Definitely a win in my eyes!
Also a moment he probably did in Prime Timeline as well.
Ah, good. At last someone who likes the new Enterprise design.
I like it as well and in fact I prefer this version of it than the refit version from Star Trek Beyond.
It’s so nice to see someone who appreciates good things these days
Who hated it?
@VOLD GAMER Could you explain what changed to the design? I myself havn't cought any changes to the enterpirse in beyond/darkness/2009
VOLD GAMER it literally looks the same from tos dafuq are u talking about
Great video, but you kind of gloss over one thing a lot of people seem to miss.
I agree basically 99%, the "pre-sequel" term is a little off to me.
it IS a reboot, in that a reboot is a film/series/whatever that breaths new life into a dead or dying franchise. a reboot CAN be canon and even a sequel. but i thought it was genius to do it the way they did here. as as you said, the original timeline is still canon.
You have the wrong definition of a reboot. What you described is a revival.
"The Enterprise has never looked better"
Finally people I can talk with!!
but seriously I will NEVER understand the hate for the design.
EK OddLink Eh, compared to others its pretty bad IMO. That said I like the J and people aren't fond of that either.
@@Minx5892 compared to other what?.
Not The original one, not the refit, not the B, or C, only D and E looks better so yeah
I absolutely LOVE how they used silence to make dramatic scenes more dramatic. And that the timelines separating gives so much more freedom to the reboot.
Yeah, I really liked how quiet things were during Spock's mission log, after his home planet Vulcan was destroyed.
aww... no mention of Simon Pegg's reveal at Scotty? Simon Pegg should have been an automatic win! plus he portrayed Scotty so well$
*exclamation point, not dollar sign
Nick Corvello - Do you know you can edit the comment?
Yeah, he did a great job as Scotty.
Yeah but then he would have had to give a win to every other actor.
Not arguing with the fact that he’s a great Mr. Scott but the original Scotty was much more reserved.
@@kev3d “The Kelvin timeline negates all the fun in the original stories”
No, it doesn’t! You can still enjoy those things. I still have my TOS DVDs here at home, they didn’t magically become invalid because of the new timeline! Spock Prime’s presence literally confirms this.
@@kev3d beastie boys are timeless dude.
@@efulmer8675 Ah yes, green lantern, a decorated member of Starfleet XD.
There are TWO Spocks, like in this movie...as well as TWO kirks, the other Kirk did not go through a wormhole...HELLO?)
JJ, in one fail swoop, just established that everything that we know and love about this franchise still exists...somewhere, in all of it's "Kahn" screaming Shatner glory, but he also puts forth: "Here's what could have happened...with a bigger budget." That's worth like...756 wins. Seriously. As a reboot...this could not have been done any better or with more reverence to the the established universe that came before him...and the casting was absolutely phenomenal. JJ nailed it...Three times. JJ is a genius...with a box...of mystery. lol.
I hope he makes more. (Please, JJ...after the Star Wars thingy...make more of these)
And Pine...in any timeline, ends up in a wheelchair. See what I mean? These multiverse things are difficult to get your head around. I do not fault you. It's complex. Like JJ.
Agree
Lens flares are horrible though. Every fucking scene.
I dislike what he did to both movies.
Not really, I think it exposes what is wrong with both actually. This movie is too much like a Star Wars movie, and episode 7 is too much like the old Star Wars movies. I personally happen to like both movies, but I also absolutely agree with both criticisms
Even with lens flares. I can still see what is going on!.
People love to complain
It just hit me that beastie boys song of Kirk joyriding is the same one in Star Trek beyond...

The film came out 10years ago
Time moves fast
Yep, I first saw this when it came out. I was 1. Now, 12 years later, it makes me feel so old but also takes me back. So does TNG since that was one of the first shows my dad introduced me to (a lot of Sci-fi/fantasy shows and movies now that I think about it...)
I saw this movie with a live orchestra conducted by Michael Giacchino himself. It was awesome!
Woah, must have been cool to watch a movie with an orchestra...
Lê Phạm Khánh Linh it was
!
Oh sweet. I saw Star Wars with live orchestra and it was amazing. (Wasn’t conducted by Williams tho)
When he said "Skinny, baby-faced Thor" I died 😂 😂
He did a wonderful performance too, 😪.
"The original timeline exists. I have dvds to prove it."
Best argument ever! XD

I feel like I'm the only one who's favorite Star Trek was Voyager. No one ever talks about it.
And Captain Janeway is my favorite captain.😁
Voyager and Janeway were my favorites, too. :)
No!! No you are not!!!!
I love voyager myself that show got me liking Star Trek then I watched ds9 both of these faster paced elements made me love Star Trek until I was older and could understand the hidden meanings of TNG and TOS and after watching all of trek voyager also captured the essence of the "to go where no man has gone before"
Enterprise is one of my favourites yet everyone seems to hate it
You're not alone, my friend. Janeway is my favorite Captain as well, and Voyager my favorite Trek show.
Thank you for doing a positive spin on movies. I've been getting pretty bored with the nitpickers.
Well, it made a bundle at the worldwide box office!! This film brought in $$225, 730, 01. 🙂👍👍👏👏‼️
Enterprising Young Men is probably the best Trek score, of all time.
...sorry, everyone else.
I totally agree with this. I'm a longtime Trek fan too, and I love this movie.
Once Again *CinemaWins* I Agree With Everything You Say About "Star Trek" (2009)
The science in star trek has ALWAYS been wonkey, the JJ films are just continuing the trend.
Exactly and somehow people are getting upset over it.
0:46 - 1:03 When you realize Jim Kirk is the son of Emma Swan and Thor!
I agree on all points
What about Janeway?
Karl Urban is one of my favorite actors. He absolutely NAILED Bones.
you should do into darkness it's really underappreciated in my opinion
Agreed.
CinemaWins On an unrelated note I would like to see you talk about The Lost World: Jurrassic Park, youre a really entertaining critic and I hope your channel grows more
Agreed, I actually love Star Trek Into Darkness a lot. I think it's amazing.
i personally loved into darkness as the movies go imo it was one of the best trek movies it was wrongly bashed much like nemesis
When I learned that Kirk's dad was gonna be Thor all those years ago, I was so psyched! The intro to this movie gets me in tears everytime!
Best Star Trek Movie ever. So happy with this reboot. Especially the casting is excellent.
you Have to be a troll!!
+Mary42877 why?
because! it's so hard to imagine that someone liked this film so much. it's so incredibly boring, and doesn't seem to have any respect to the source material. plus, it looks very flashy and glittery, i bet it won't age well. the only good thing about this film is that it won't be remembered. and you call this "best Star Trek Movie ever"! ...how???
but whatever, who am I to talk, i'm a fan of the prequel trilogy:D
I agree.
"Time to take that red shirt off..." nice one, I hadn't noticed that that was his character! Good nod to the original. And I really enjoyed Pine's "Shatnering"
I watched this movie like a thousand times lol when I got the DVD.

Yeah being positive is so much more fun
agreed
+Lovi Poekimo you know that all the criticism are meant to be jokes or for comedic purposes, just 5 out 100 sins are actually serious
Keep it up!
I'd like Cinemasins a lot better if they didn't lie about what happens in films so often.

(I'm the weirdo among my nerd friends by liking TNG and Voyager, so I'm sure the SW/ST thing will only add to that lol.)
Again though, this channel is such a welcome place to relax, see things differently and learn some good trivia too, and do it without raging fanboys or overly fawning ones either.
Honestly, love your enthusiasm. I can hear it in your voice, especially at the end! Thank you for sharing your joy!
That moment is eluded to earlier on when Khan tells Spock "You can't even break a rule how would you be expected to break bone?"
Into Darkness was a HIGHLY underrated movie in my opinion PLEASE while I'm sure it is already on your itinerary do a cinema wins vid for that movie as well.
I love your channel and even more respect for you being a trekkie. Thanks and cheers!
Vulcans without logic are dangerous
D Jackson yep
Thank you for making this! Gene Roddenberry would have loved this film. I've been a hard core fan since 1974, had a great experience watching these reboots.
Hard core fan since 1966. Glad you like it too.
I remember seeing it with my sister Cara opening weekend
My late father really liked it on dvd too
There’s so many great action scenes of the space battles, lots of callbacks and inside references to the franchise, the acting is amazing from everyone involved bringing the characters to life, and a great amount of laughs
JJ Abrams and the writers have even made their own ways of using time travel, alternate realities, and rewriting history
This definitely came as a shock to many since the filmmakers took a big risk by resetting the timeline making so many changes, in a way the older movies happened but this is the Enterprise Crew going on a different path than what they were originally intended giving them modern sensibilities and “human” desires bringing enough steamy friction
All the actors perfectly bring these characters we know and love to life in a new fashion
Michael Giacchino’s score can be very bombastic at times, like really scale it back a bit plus the movie does slow down a lot during the middle
Still it provides great visuals, surefire thrills, a well-made fun adventure, and paved the way for many of these actors making $385.7 million worldwide even winning an Oscar for best makeup
It doesn’t alienate casual viewers while still catering to the hardcore fans
And it’s incredible this got made the way it did considering Hollywood was suffering another writers strike almost halting production
Abrams and writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman manage to successfully reboot this series creating the kind of popcorn excitement you’d expect; they even remind the audience that heroes still bleed, they also love but also make mistakes
It delivers almost everything you want in a summer movie while also respecting the franchise that has endured for over 60 years
This is the movie that made me a bonafide Trekkie for life!
Most would argue it might even be better than Wrath of Khan
I saw it theaters too when I was 12. I love all three reboot movies. 2009 Star Trek is what got me into Star Trek.
Not as behind as me!😆
@@Ranger215able My dad was a veteran of WWII (USN,Pacific) and loved the original series.
Never--NEVER--skip The Original Series.
Porfle Popnecker I gotta be honest, I can't stand it. I realize it's a classic and all, but I can only handle the level of hokiness that TNG or other more recent shows offer. TOS is just a little too... Shatnery.
Well, that's unfortunate for you.
Elliot Robertson I understand. TNG has my interest more than the original series. I'm not against Shatner, but... well I'm not a fan of him, either.
It's great to see you're yet another person who appreciates ALL of Star Trek and also the reboots! :)
I watched this, and missed Leonard Nimoy all over again... :(
I miss him too!! I’ve been a fan of his since 1966, when the original trek aired - -on my parents brand new color TV.
I love how sometimes you don't even explain it, you just add on win points and that's amazing.
This channel makes me so happy, man.
is a Kardasian sunrise a glass of Kanar?
Ha!
*Cardassian
William Jakespeare could be kim's hooha.
Tequila replaced with Kanar in a tequila sunrise
I just want to say you really did a great job in your discussion here. I'm so glad there are other Trekkies (or Trekkers, whichever you prefer) out there who love the new movies as much as I do. And the old movies / TV shows. I still haven't seen all the TAS episodes, but I'm working on it. Great video!
Most fans: arguing over old vs new.
Me: Galaxy Quest is my favorite "Star Trek" movie.
I agree and I love the new Kelvin timeline films. (Old fan from 1966).
This channel gives me life and cures my depression, literally. I come here and rewatch some of the videos for your amazing positivity, I hope you will never lose it. That rant at the end is words that I live by. You can love everything.
Do Everything Great about The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
One of my favorite things in this movie is that each of the main characters got their individual moments to shine, and they each played a specific part in the success of the operation. My wife, who otherwise does not even like sci-fi, loved this movie and saw it multiple times in the theater.
As a guy with a Beagle named Porthos, don’t rule out that Archer’s “Prized Beagle” is one and the same. Those dogs live for forever
LOVED THIS SERIES!! My hubby started me on TNG and Voyager with the Borg story lines which are still my favorites!
LLAP
Haha, nice Voyager reference. Makes me wonder, why didn't we get to see the crew's arrival at home?!
No win for the awesome sarcastic "Live Long and Prosper" :(
The biggest win of this film is that it gets people like me (who previously thought Star Trek was for geeks and nerds) enjoy (an albeit small part of) this franchise. It really did blow me away
I love how you keep referencing the old star treks!
There should be a video with him and cinema sins arguing over a movie!plus one if you agree
I literally can't stop watching this movie over and over again, mission accomplished. Very well done.
Keep it up! :)
Everything GREAT about The Room.
you ask the impossible
Its me Bane That is why.
But like others have said the things that are great about the room are also the things that are horrible about it. I don't even think it's a movie but a documentary into Tommy Wusos mind.
Oh, a challenge!
+Its me Bane Yes, it is impossible... Not to find anything good about The Room.
Great video cinemaswins, your channel is really cool, it's nice not having someone only saying negative things and still being funny. Thank you
Lol
they actually mistranslated something in the german version:
In the scene at the end, where Kirk offers to save Nero and he responds with "I'd rather die..." in the german version he says "I'd rather see my planet get destroyed a thousand times than to accept your help"
Hast du recht, fällt mir jetzt erst auf
MrBlackhawk49 How is that a mistranslation?
I think he said “i would rather withness the destruction of romulus a thousand times than to accept help from you
Huh I actually prefer that. And I don’t think mistranslation is the right word. Direct translations are very rare due to differences in mouth flaps
For me the best things about Star Trek (2009) were:
I hate how the reboots are so underated because I love all three star trek, into darkness, beyond
They actually have a bigger fanbase than you think. It's just the haters that are the most vocal
@Black Ninja fantastic
I... really liked both of these videos. As a Trekkie, and as a fan of the films. And to date, 'Beyond' is my favorite. Well done, mate.
I watch all three of the Kelvin timelines a lot, great films. Having been a teen when the original series got the axe, it’s fantastic to see it continue for new generations of fans.
Why wouldn't you make a space ship on earth, space needs spacesuits and the ocean needs SCUBAS
I didn't know they needed to go to space to make the space shuttles... wait.
JK, I love this channel, but I honestly don't understand that complaint.
dj2neo In a world full of spaceships, where they have the capability to build in space, they would.
This review had me in stitches. Best narrated review i have ever seen. Well done mate...
I also absolutely love this score
I like the way the film subtly reminds you of the time jump, like slightly updated ships and improved tactics. It never goes THIRTY YEARS LATER and I appreciate that. Gives the viewer more to look at.
This film, for me, is the one I would take to a desert Island, I love how the "new" actors reproduced the orignial characteristics so that very quickly it was like watching the original..back in the day,. The script was brilliant with humour action and heart string pulls, and the music OMG....and lastly the legend that IS Leonard Nimoy
I had a huge crush on him back in the 1960s, when the original trek aired. Had a large poster of him. Loved him on ‘Mission Impossible’ TV series too.
@@slcRN1971 My secret crush was (still is) Shatner :) it is what it is
This is one of the best Cinema Wins I have seen yet! As a TOS fan, I LOVE this movie and you pointed out every reason why. Thank you for finding the positive with things instead of focusing on the negative. Well done!

FUCK YOU
I loved the video and your explanation of the black hole scene. This shows that if truly want to defend and explain Star Trek you should have a true Trek nerd do it.
would u do, everything great about Batman V Superman dawn of justice when it comes out on dvd
I second this.
+abdoulhay ceesay about time someone actually agrees with me, cause u either love the movie or u hate, most movie critics for the newpapers hate this film
Ghost worrier 38 what can I say? I like what I like.
He should definitely do it
I enjoyed the movie.
3:17 THE ENTERPRISE!!!!! 😍
4:49 - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THS MOVIE AND THE DIRECTION IT WENT! PLEASE MAKE A 4TH MOVIE... WITH THIS CREW!
