    Like your clear, no-words-wasted approach. Really helpful.

    I put the links to the spec sheets for both mics. These links get deleted. Therefore, check the spec sheets yourself (you can look up the frequency response charts, with a search.) You'll clearly see a bump on the bass section, of the frequency response chart for the BA 85a. You will not see that bump on the XM8500 (for this mike, the bass reaponse is effectivley flat until rolls off.)

      The xm8500 is warmer, the ba85a is clearer with more bass but less warmth.

      @@TechRaccoonGG I think that these last words, that you've said here, are very accurate. If you're looking for a kind of big warm sound the XM8500 is good. If you're looking for more of a scooped sound (plenty of bass, with more treble), with clarity, the BA 85a is good.

      TechRacoon, have you reviewed the Pyle PDMIC58 Dynamic mic? I just got a couple of these, after watching another reviewer trash them. Ironically, his review got me to buy a couple of them. The only real problem that I've encountered with them is that they exggadurate the highs, leading to some sibilance overload (but that can be attenuated with some judicious editing, in a recording.)

      @@KenTeel I don't have one of those. might look into buying one

      @@TechRaccoonGG Today I playe a gig. There were around 60-80 customers, in attendance. I decided to try out the Pyle PDMIC58. I plugged it into the PA and preceed to do some scat singing. I asked the customers about the sound of the vocals. They said that they sounded good. I asked a few more people, includeing a bass player, who happened to be a customer. I got no negative reports on the sound of vocals, so the humble PBMIC58 definitely did it's job. I got lots of compliments on my original music, from the people there. Half of the sound was the PA system, the other half, my guitar. Before I started, I rolled back the treble just slightly from it's 12 o'clock position so as to ward off sibilance, with the PDMIC58. The humble mic passed the test.

    I find them both good value for money. Which one is best depends on the voice of who's using them.

      Yep like I said.

      Exactly: Chose which mic to use, based on the characteristics of the voice. Tech Racoon has a low voice. He doesn't need help in the low end of the spectrum. He needs a mic that will bring out the highs, so that his voice sounds more distinct. Guys who do podcast, like to sound like The Wizard Of Oz, with a big bass (hence the popularity of the Shure SM7b), but realistically a balanced voice is easier to understand than an overly bass heavy voice. I think that Tech Racoon sounds better on the XM8500. It's not as bass heavy as the other mic.

    The BA85A seems to have less of an issue with plosives

      They are pretty equal since they have the same foam and metal mesh

    I wonder what a 50/50 mix would sound like.

    No, the BA 85A has more bass. The XM8500 has a bit more mids. The XM8500 makes you sound somewhat more clear.

      Have a good listen, the xm8500 is clearly a warmer mic. While the ba 85a has a lot more treble making it sound more distinct and clear

      @@TechRaccoonGG Per your advice of having a good listen, I strapped on a pair of Sony MD7506 headphones, and had a good listen. My conclusion: Still the same, the BA 85A has more bass. The XM8500 has about the same high end, but is clearly less bassy. The XM8500 makes your voice slightly more intelligible, due to the rolled off bass.

      @TechRaccoonGG  Рік тому

      Surely you can agree that the xm8500 had a warmer sound to it? While the ba 85a has some bass, not loads of mids and lots of treble. If you watch any review of the xm8500 everyone agrees it's a warm sounding mic, while the reviews of the ba 85a usually mention it's a more clear sounding mic but not as warm.

    I like your video on this BA 85a. You don't sing, though. That is a lot of what this mic would be used for. I did a singing test witht his mic. For anyone who is considering buying the BA 85a, and wants to hear what a male voice, singing, here's a test video. Thanks, Tech Racoon. I like your videos. ua-cam.com/video/kBiz8rKc6MY/v-deo.html
