My father worked at AEC in the 1930s to the late 1960s apart from the war years. He would have been so thrilled to see the work you are doing to restore these beautiful buses. We lived behind the Hanwell bus garage and I saw many buses from there over the years. Well done and continue with the great work.
Well done guy’s I love the passion to save these busses. Heart breaking to see them just sit and rot. Grand effort you both made such a pleasing video thank you.
Wow - superb episode. Great to see old Hamish McRoutemaster AKA RML2704 moving from the ancestral seat. Bonus that this all took place somewhere near my home...
@@PeteAndHisBus We moved here from Essex last year. You were about 30 miles from us (by rough recognition of identifiable landmarks and businesses.) If I'd known you were coming I'd have happily brought you refreshments - and as a fellow enthusiast, I'm not averse to also getting out the spanners!
Great effort guys, I was cheering the old girl on to haul herself out of her rather soggy bed. I loved driving them in Central London (137’s Streatham Hill to Oxford Circus) in the 6 months prior to their decommissioning. They offered them to the drivers for £2,500. Shame I didn’t have the space to store one at the time 😢 Brilliant to see another one saved ❤

👏👏👏👏👏 The Lord of the Scrap Yard 👏👏👏👏👏 great progress Pete saving yet another bus sleeping its head off 😁 unbelievable it started after a long time asleep, just shows dedication from the bus gang 👏👏👏👏👏
This made me admire the Cummins transplant. It awakened really well and has a very AEC like tickover. It's a great motor you can set and forget and removes a lot of worry with running these things. Love an AEC but running with a Cummins makes sense these days. I never knew they had a surpentine belt 😯. What a modern touch for an RM(L). It was interesting to see the Lord getting a Cummins example going. . It was
Holy moley that was edge of the seat stuff for me I must say, willing that bus out of the slime pit was hard work! Pete , that was one of your best vids imho just love the Routemaster rescue missions! Bravo!
Brilliant episode! I was cheering the old bus on as it came out of the swamp. I love your enthusiasm combined with Lord Barrington's never changing expression!
Well done guys. So glad another routemaster is saved and the future of 2704 is pretty good. Roll on for the next episode Pete. God I really want a routemaster now 😫
Great bit of video as always. Was very frustrating watching you trying to free the bus but I knew you wouldn't be beaten. Really looking forward to next instalment. 🙂
A great vid Pete it was a joy to see the rescue bus moving on her own speed, I was willling her to do it and like you Pete I cheered when she finally moved out of her watery pit. And now she's indoors at least now she will be warm and dry, well done Pete and Lord Barrington
Can’t wait for another episode on this bus, mad to think how old it is with a bit of tinkering it runs quite easy with not too much trouble, well done Pete and Lord Barrington
A big smile from start to finish. Full lock doesn't do you any favours in these circumstances. I wondered when you'd realise that. Very well done. Hope to get some updates as and when.
I'm sat watching this on my tablet with earphones in shouting "come on old girl you can do it! Come on! Come on! I was almost as excited as Pete when she came out yelling "YES" when she came out! Well done guys another RM on the long road to recovery
What a great video. Thanks to Lord Barrington and yourself another RM(L) lives. So nice to hear that Cummins. Reminds me of my Days in London watching these in their final days on the 159. Just wish I could drive one one day.
I too have been able to enjoy and appreciate a friend with a delightful pad in the sunshine 😊 The bus from the pit? Always a cert, very neatly done gentleman.
If you ever are in that situation again a good trick to get you more traction is to thread rope through the holes in the outside rims and around the tyre on each side of the rear diff and works like a set of snow chains, keep up the good work and it's awesome to see someone playing with these awesome old icons.
Awsome work by lord Barrington and awesome work by you Pete love watching what you both getting upto Brilliant video as always Pete well done both hope the family are well
It was nice to see R M L 2704 again. My wife and I worked on it whilst it was allocated at Uxbridge Garage, believe from new ,operating route 207 ,Uxbridge of Shepherd Bush, with running time of 1hr7mins. When it as delivered the upholstery moquette was grey and blue ,have a photo some ,also R M L 2710 had the same interior design also allocated to Uxbridge when new.
Oh wow. How the mind works! As soon as you climbed aboard I teared up. Used to catch the number 8 to school every day in the 70s. I'd LOVE to just sit there and take myself back to childhood 🥰
came from a time, when British engendering, was the envy of the world. over engineered, and was still patrolling the streets of london, 50 years later, what a bus ❤
@@PeteAndHisBus Amazing really, I need to stop looking at eBay for buses after watching your videos 😂. I was quite taken with the comment you made in your video about people giving you grief for advocating alternative uses - on one hand it is a shame to see the original interiors and fittings lost, but more important the vehicles are saved and used. I guess there are only limited uses for an actual bus with 60 or so seats….
I knew she'd get out of that pit, I had faith in the old girl. Lord Barrington must have had arms like a bodybuilder by the time he'd finished with her steering. Well done guys
Well done guys, these old buses are from better times and still start, amazing. So much character compared to the Boris bus and pass the test of time. Thanks for the vids.
Fantastic set of videos, Pete - very entertaining but also a privilege to witness all the hard work being put in to bring these old girls back to life, regardless of what future use they may have.
