  • Just as the new Leatherman ARC came out I saw a video of it being reviewed in the P5 version, well I had to have one. I searched and searched the internet to order one and no luck, they were sold out everywhere. You could order on from Leatherman but you would have to wait weeks to get it.
    Leather man said that BassPro shops had them and their site said that most stores had them in limited quantities. we were headed to visit the wife’s folks and had to drive pass the Tallahassee store so I decided to stop and see if I could find the Limited quantity that they said was there.
    I looked at the leather man display with no luck. I asked one of the clerks and he said that if they had it it would be in the rack. I looked at every box in the rack and was just getting set to give up with an older guy with a bass pro shirt on asked if he could help. I showed him on his web site that it said that they had limited quantities of the Leatherman ARC and he started looking. Eventually he found 2 of them in the expensive knives area behind the counter. I had scored.
    When I got to the in-laws house and opened my box to look at my new tool. I discovered that the one that I had bought was missing the nub on the knife to open it. Damn!
    On the way home I stopped by the same bass pro and went straight to the counter that we had found them at and discovered that the gentleman that had helped me was very high with in the store and I again told him my problem and he swapped out the knife with the one that was still there. And gave me a few hats for my troubles.

    I've found that the hole in wire cutters is very useful for stripping wires. You might like the Volty Switch from PCPoodle, which is a micro-multimeter made to fit into the bit driver.
    The ARC has the best toolset, I love it!

    I've never like Gerber, felt like plastic and thing aluminum foil. They always flexed like crazy.
    I was an instant fan of Leatherman the first times I got my hands on one. I've accumulated 3 over the years and each one is pretty awesome in their own way. This one looks really nice.

    Newbie here, looking for real life advice.
    Mine should be able to cut barbed wire more than once. Have a reasonable saw. The knife should be able to feather stick. A good pair of scissors would also be useful. Can and bottle opener. Don't necessarily need screwdrivers. Focused on bushcraft. I could use some advice, and thanks in advance!

      I would not use my Leatherman to cut barbed wire. The is the right tool for every job and the leather does a good job of doing a lot of the, but when I am running the fence line looking for breaks I carry lineman pliers to make that job so much easier. The cutter on the leather is meant for much smaller gauge wire. When they say wire they are meaning electrical wire for the most part.

    $200 is actually a really good deal for this multi-tool with the magnacut blade.
    The lowest price I've ever seen a magnecut blade go for is $130 and that's on very rare deals. Most of the time they are $160 plus, and that is just the knife. Leatherman is putting just that knife on the multitool along with their multi tool that costs $140 or w/e. I don't know how much it cost to actually manufacture it, but $200 is definitely a fair price for the multitool especially if you can make use of that blade steel and considering everything is made in the USA. Too many people are used to paying for essentially slave labor with bad materials to just get the job done and they've forgotten how much things cost when you actually have to pay fairly for work to be done with good materials.

    I was blown away at the cost. Magnacut explains it. I still wish theyd let us design our own wave, or surge

      @TheGeorge65  6 місяців тому

      there are many mods that you can do to modify your wave or surge to customize it.

      @ShawnGeorge i know...but then you end up with a bunch of extra pieces and have to find out what will get in the way of what the hard way. A program like that (i am not software engineer or have ever written 1 line of code) is simple enough to do in excel. I think they're lacking in oem aftermarket options. You could build one from scratch or have trade specific versions, people could vote online for their favorite and give the winner a free one. Seems like there's a lot they could do with customer input and interaction.

      @@TheGeorge65I live in Thailand, so I was able to head down to the local camping store today (which is an authorized Leatherman retail store), and picked up the Arc, Bit Kit, and Ratchet Driver. The tools here are not in such high demand, so they have stock. All up, it ran me $300 USD, so not bad, considering I can walk in and walk out with everything. Next up, is the case! Here in Thailand, everyone carries cross body bags. While it took a while to get used to effectively carrying a purse with me, man is it convenient. Not sure why there is such a stigma in the US, on men carrying a bag. Anyway, due to this, I am going to get the one with more bits, and no clip. Only question, is what colour :). I think I will go with Orange, so it’s easier to find in the bag.

      @@TheRealMafoo that is fantastic news. crossbody bags are coming back with the Tactical guys and EDC carriers. I wear one when I am filming so that I have all my stuff that I need right in front of me for easy access.. but the leatherman with all that gear attached to it is heavy and off loading that to my belt is much easier and I don't want damage my delicate cameras.

      @@TheGeorge65 Good point. I don't have anything that high end in my bag. :). Sad news... I went to buy the clip, and the shipping is crazy. almost as much as the product itself. I will be back in the states next year.. I will get it then. Until then, I have a bag, so no real need I guess for the clip. I can just put all the accessories in a pocket, in the bag. Oh, and I watched some of your other videos, and subscribed. Looks like you’re about to move into a house. Good luck!

    No multitool is perfect. Once the cost of the newer models goes over $100 I question it's worth. I think the Wave plus can't be beat considering the value. I consider the Surge the best Leatherman makes but it's on the heavy side to be a EDC. Good review though, Leatherman owes you a new tool!

    • @TheGeorge65
      @TheGeorge65  6 місяців тому

      well a big cost of the ARC is the magnacut steel that is the blade of the ARC. right now it is probably the best blade steel on the market. look up magnacut steel blades and see the price. to get the best some times you have to pay for it.

      I agree. The Wave/Wave+ is the most popular and best selling tool. I have a Wave+ myself and while I enjoy the new models that come out, I just don’t see me running out to buy one. There is really nothing I can’t do with my Wave that makes me need something else. Especially if it means spending $100+ just for one tool.
