    I'm so glad I find this gem on UA-cam, you can't imagine how much you content help me building my own track car (NB). Also would be great if you can have a video about the shocks and spring, coilover you use for the spec miata. Thank you so much!

    Hey man, I love the vedios. You are crazy smart about these cars(probably comes with the amount of time you have worked on them 😂) and I love learning more about the suspension. Thank you for doing what you do and keep going.

      @@aracing I'm in Indiana. I've been vintage racing for the last 5 years. This will be my first time in a Miata now that NA Miata's are old enough and accepted by some vintage organizations. I will get on track at MidOhio, Indianapolis, Road America, Gingerman, and Blackhawk next season if all goes well.

    So in my setting my ride height on Penske threaded body coil overs i noticed that going back and forth on sides of car that the coil over adjuster began to run out of thread. On one diagonal adjusters were high on threads and other diagonal it was low on threads. Even so my ride heights were close to where I wanted. But I decided to started over with all adjusters about in middle of threads on all coil overs and set ride height with a few turns. When I scaled it, it was 49.9 x 50.1 and diagonal weight difference was like 4 lbs. And all adjusters still had plenty of thread above and below them on coil overs. What is best place to start the adjuster on the threads? Middle, high, or low?

    My pinch welds are all beat up and folded. Where should I measure from instead. I was using a left/ right rear subframe landmark but can't reach under for the front.

    Researching for my own street/Ax/light track setup. Is it a common miata setup to do 0 rake?

    Excellent information👍 What brand of coilovers you recommend for autocross and track?

    • @aracing
      @aracing  2 роки тому

      Tein shocks, they seam to be a good all around adjustable shock.

    In order to set the ride height exactly the same at all 4 corners does this mean that the shocks have slightly different spring seat heights (left to righ).
    I thought that you should match the coilovers spring height left to right...accept that the car may not be perfectly symmetrical and left and right pinch weld heights could be off by a few mm's.
    Then go and do the fine tuning adjustments on the spring seats with the corner scales?

      The car weighs differently from side to side and front to back. The idea behind setting the ride height is that it is the foundation for car set up. If you want the best set up you need to adjust each shock for that corner of the car. so setting them all at 5" from the ground to the pick weld gives the best results. I look for a part of the pinch weld that is not damaged and close to the wheel. I hope this helps and thank you for watching.

    If I don’t have a lift can I adjust one corner at each time or do I have to jack up both sides at the same time?

    • @aracing
      @aracing  2 роки тому +1

      You can do one wheel at a time but roll the car about 10' before you measure the height

  • @solid_spec

    Hey Al, do you factor in any height drop due to spring settling when rechecking the height after adjusting? Maybe that doesnt matter so much when there is hardly any preload on the spring like in this example? Thanks.

    • @aracing
      @aracing  3 роки тому +1

      Your right its not much if any. What you can do if you like is after you make an adjustment, out the car on the ground then roll it back several feet and then forward several feet and it will be settled. Thanks for the comment and for watching

    When looking at these shocks to purchase, I’m asked about what stroke length….6, 7, or 8. What is it dependent on?

    • @aracing
      @aracing  2 роки тому

      Sorry Bobby im not sure about that since we can only use Spec Miata shocks. I take them out of the box and install them. Thank you for letting me know that there are different stroke length

      @@aracing I’m in the process of getting a Miata set up. I would like to get it as close to Spec Miata as possible so that if I get to that point, I will be ready. That shock issue has got me stumped. So the ones you use don’t specify a stroke length?

    • @aracing
      @aracing  2 роки тому +1

      Bobby, as of right now we can only use the Bilstine and Penske shocks provided to us by Mazda Motorsports. In a short time we will no longer be able to use the Bilsine's, as of right now we can NOT use them in a National race. I normally buy the shocks assembled so I only have to drop them in. In the future I will make a video on how to put them in. There is a guy who rebuilds the Spec Miata shock and his business name is Fatcat racing. (www.fatcatmotorsports.com/) he could help you with ANY and ALL of your suspension questions buddy. Hope this helps you out, and thank you for the question.
