@@linuskonetschnig6063 - Bringing highly explosive ordnance that was last handled by untrained Somali pirates in choppy seas onto a small ship is really not advisable. This WAS the "correct" way of disposing of them.
LAUTE KINDER why them bring back on a ship when you can drop them somewhere completely inaccessible to anyone as the ocean is 2500 metres deep and the water will damage them making them unusable
Alex1999 people don’t think of that. The pressure alone will crush them
They could have at least kept the fuel lmao.
Russian warships would have just sunk the Merchant Ship with the crew aboard

What a wonderful showing of how neutered the navy is in these situations, just let’s the pirates know how to do their part better
Its been fixed, most companies take armed secuirty thourgh pirate zones now and they culled a bulk of the piracy in that area since. (It goes up and down regionally globally, i think its growing in the indian ocean and asia at the moment)

My favourite comment on here
If the cargo or personnel is so valuable then have a security team aboard
Most ships usually hire PMCs or Full flegded security teams.
Some still refuse because they are costly.
International maritime law doesn’t work like that, merchant ships aren’t allowed to be armed. They would have to charter private security ships which would be insanely expensive.
@@snow49032 there are slews of ship security firms that specialize in armed ship security for the most part the laws they follow stem form their flag country but its a huge grey area
They only operate in national waters for the most part. Being armed in international waters without being recognized as a member of a national military or police force (or paramilitary or what-have-you) is an act of piracy. I used to work in admin when I was a student for a PMC that specialized in hostage return after ransoms were paid. It was a weird job, but I learnt some cool things. There are huge grey areas, but if you are caught armed in international waters by most navies they will detain you.
@@snow49032 Wrong im afraid snow. Merchants ships are allowed to carry armed guards and small arms in International waters, and territorial waters that allow it. The reason they dont is that it would require a massive amount of paperwork, insurance documents etc... Not to mention the classic response of "You have weapon A, so I will get weapon B which is bigger" which the pirates would follow.
Ross is a beast dudes fearless
Love the sinking of the pirate boat so the crew can release some frustration. Beats drilling a hold in it.

By 2016 the issue had diminished so much that the NATO task forces were recalled. Piracy is always a short term game. The navies are simply too powerful.
OutrageousGamer No, it’s not
that skiff got merked
I guess the only way to put a stop to this is to make sure every ship has fully armed security.
I think things are different these days in that these merchant ships now hire mercenarys to defend them on the ship and there are decoy merchant ships that are basically military boats that bait the pirates in and fuck them up when they realise

Unless you are a naval captain, in the military, specialise in anti piracy or hostage rescue and you’re typing this from the comfort of your home with your standard civilian job, you have absolutely no right right to say that they are doing the wrong thing and what they could be doing differently. If you want to, join the Navy, join the special forces, and say it to their face. I’d like to see you do better before you somehow criticise thinking somehow you know better.
hi it has nothing to do with that.. Hell I'm Canadian and if I had that ship at my disposal I would have simply locked a harpoon on it and blown them outta the water...
the only reason I didn't join the military?
MILITARY INTELLIGENCE = an OXY MORON
Former US military here who has done anti piracy work. A twelve minute edited video is no way to transmit the kind of information needed to make that call. There are millions of dollars and dozens of lives at stake. While I would prefer a more aggressive stance the "boots on the ground" so to speak thought it better to let them go. I don't like it but I'll not gainsay anything about it based on this little information. Most of this comment section are just idiots arguing with other idiots.
Harley Me idiot
But isn't it our standard civilian jobs that fund our Military? isn't that why we pay tax? Everyone plays a part. Its our standard civilian jobs that keeps the country going.
I'm a reservest in 2nd battalion royal irish regiment, but I also am a supervisor for b&q. So what would you call me you ignorant fuck?.
Miles Kiener now what I would’ve done was get a 25 kill streak and nuke em
Ooo baby a triple
Keep Calm and carry on.
Every single merchant ship should have armed private security. The problem is they only accept (understandably) ex-special forces ideally or military at the very least. The PMC industry needs to be bigger. I'd prefer if there was a long extensive training course anyone could take and have a chance, that way more people have secure jobs and these pirates would be eradicated. Shit, I'd do it for a bed and two sandwiches a day.
Being armed in international waters when not a member of a recognized national military is an act of piracy. SO your answer to the piracy problem is to... make more pirates?
@@evejunkie1942 Recognised national military? PMC's are business's pal. There not apart of any national military whatsoever. Tf are you talking about?
@thematic Right either you're really thick or very misunderstood. What are you trying to say? Spit it out lad. Do you think PMC's are part of a nations military, yes or no? They're called PRIVATE military contractors and you can get all of their company info online, all the upper management and their details, how long they've been a company, where the address the company is registered at. So, what don't you understand?
@thematic That's answered my question. YOU don't get it you thick fuck. I really try with know-it-all's like yourself but you'll never learn. So, I never said they don't have permission, but this is only in territorial waters (not sure where you got the term 'host nation', and this territorial water that nations own only stretches for a measly 12 nautical miles. After that (So 99% of a ships journey) is in whats called International Waters, where what's known as Maritime Law is in place. NO ONE owns this water. They have their own set of rules and laws. Why do you think L.Ron Hubbard set sail to sea when the IRS was hunting him down for tax evasion? Because his country couldn't do shit, because he wasn't in their waters, meaning he didn't have to abide by their laws. Sunk in yet?
@thematic Thermatic, you've got it all wrong mate, Private security on international waters is in no way piracy, is just self defense. Almost every ship in the area has such security these days as well as full lockdown capability.
Oh yes, let's send the very well armed and trained soldiers just so they can sit there and watch!

All things aside, as a person completely disconnected. It’s wicked to be able to see this kind of thing.
A waste of money if the warships don't do anything but observe.
They should at least stop the pirated ship and take it from there
And how would they do that without risking the lives of the crew?
“They’re life are in danger if we invade the pirated ships”, arent their life’s already in danger becoming hostages to the pirates
Jamie they’re lives are already at risk so what are you talking about ? It’s better to try and do something now than later because the crew of the ship will probably be executed
Love the title to this video, as if Ross is helping. Should be Ross watches HMS Northumberland try to save a ship while taking up space and getting in the way.
How frustrating is that then ? 'fucking frustrating'..... 'ye roger that' hahahahah
Riss Kemp - the biggest Walt since Disney...
Big, big waste of money. Just allow private security contractors to staff armed guards on those ships. Problem solved.
You can't have armed guards on merchant ships as then you'd only be able to dock at military docks.
The Suez canal doesnt allow armed security to transit.
Arming the crew can pose an insurance issue.
Its just pretty damn expensive.
All these costs will get passed on to consumers so that might just make it better to have governments deal with it. America, the UK, and many other nations already keep warships around the middle east, so why not use those ships for counter piracy operations and save your citizens a bit of money at the same time.

Cargo ships with hundreds on millions of dollars of cargo.
On ships worth tens of millions of dollars.
Protected by a warship costing £130 million.
Attacked by pirates with a few thousand dollars of equipment.
Can anyone see the disconnect here?
The value of the life of the crew... Priceless. The risk to their life is too great. Take it from someone who is in the British Merchant Navy and has sailed those waters.
@@Hughesy-97 they aren't fukin escorted by the warship their whole journey cargo ships can easily hire private security the pirates always get fucked when ships have security aboard oceans a big place warships cant always be there
Actually it did cost £130million... although the running costs are probably way more than 20 times the cost of the other ship.
MrB1923 the disconnect is you believe your ships and products should be safe while you steal fish and dump toxic trash along our shores. No money in the world can save you from determined Somali’s. Only option now is to pay tributes for traveling across our water, fuck your international law.

Funny how we’ve come from sinking great naval battleships in WW2 to barely being able to sink a Somalian pirate’s fishing boat.
Funny? I highly doubt a single one of their bullets would have missed a 50,000 tonne battleship let alone a bloody boat no better than a dingy, cop on. It's not exactly a combat situation that requires you to kill the enemy before he kills you, is it? If there were pirates firing back I guarantee you shots on target would be far more precise
The pirates had hostages and if they shot they would shoot the people
J empty ships and boats are used for target practice. You’ll find that the gunners here are actually recruits or just people not specialists in this gun
Not in 1940 now, time to wake up
