- Today we are harvesting chokecherries. This is a native plant found in eastern North American which produces small tart cherries which can be used for a variety of things such as chokecherry jams or jellies, syrups etc. Chokecherries are hardy and a great plant to go foraging for here in late July when the small cherries ripen.

Great harvest. The birds got our berries this year.
Wow! Look at all the apples.
The homestead is in full production this year. The berries and apples are loaded. We have been fortunate this year.
Can't wait to see what you do with them! Ours are green and trees are huge.
I wonder if yours are black cherry? Our black cherry fruits are still green or just starting to turn. These ones are going to be made into jelly this week.
Dear Steph,
It is always good when there is a bountiful harvest. It varies from year to year as you said. I am glad this was a good year.
Sincerely,

We have been so blessed this year. The blackberries are crazy here too, so many, and the apple tree branches are on the ground with the weight.
Amazing! So many berries, thanks for sharing 😀
We are very fortunate. Our property is loaded with berries and apples and who knows what other goodies. We make sure we take full advantage that is for sure.
Being new to this homesteading adventure we are still discovering things like chokecherries and black cherry. We just found the trees last week as a friend removed brush from a rocky ridge. It appears we only have one of each, choke cherry, black cherry, and apple. The birds already stripped the chokecherry in less than a week since we found it. Thanks for this video. The lesson arrives just in time for this student.
That is great that you have found them on your property, not so great about the birds. It is so wonderful how we can all learn from each other and receive encouragement and inspiration 😀
Choke cherry is also great for wildlife!
We were so pleased to see more trees starting to grow all around this very productive tree.
wonderful ,chokecherry syrup on pancakesand waffles ,yummy. Looks like abumper crops apples. I see lots of juice and sauce in your future canning good day you guys
The apples are just crazy this year.... we have around 350 overgrown trees, and I would say that at least half of them are full.
Chokecherries grow wild here in Wyoming too. They make the best jelly and syrup!!
Yes, we are making jelly with these ones and going to harvest the black Cherries to make some syrup. It has been a fantastic foraging year.
My tress finally have blooms on this year! I’ll definitely be looking at your jelly for recipes, hopefully I’m able to get enough to make some jam or jelly’s
The Cherries definitely have good and bad years. This year our trees had barely any blossoms, so good thing I made lots last year.
I think I saw some on our hike. But wasn't 100% sure
Interesting. I sowed some this spring but they did not germinate yet. I'll check if you have a mulberry video because I have about 20 of them who germinate and stayed alive so far.
Interesting. We don't have chokecherries in my area of Missouri.
Hi there! I am from Missouri also 😀 Springfield area.
