Excellent technique and explanation of the way to execute the rope climb. Couple things to add, and I am suggesting this only because I trained at Camp Rhino in Boise, ID for the last two years for several spartan races. First, the rope at camp rhino is 1.5 inches, but the rope in the spartan races are one inch. Doesn’t seem like a big difference, but it actually matters a lot. So follow her technique with a 1.5 inch rope, but try it with a one inch rope to get used to the difference, it really makes a difference. Second, make sure your grip is strong enough to hold the rope while transitioning your feet, because if your grip can’t support your weight on the rope for a few seconds then it’s way harder. Third, she is spot on that the J hook is quicker, but it’s also less secure if you haven’t mastered it yet. The wrap (S Hook) is slower, but more secure once you figure it out, but takes longer as she mentions. One last opinion on the wrap method (S Hook), when you pull your feet up you will tend to drag the rope up with you, which can really stress your grip strength, so its important to figure out how to unwrap your feet from the rope and then re-wrap the rope again. Definitely more stable, but slower and requires a different technique. Basically, watch her technique because it’s spot-on, but try a few variations to see what works best for you. I definitely recommend Camp Rhino!!!!
