I wish UA-cam was around when I was in junior high school back in the mid 90's. That rope climb was the toughest thing I had to do in P.E. Any other exercise or run or obstacle, no problem. But that rope climb was like kryptonite to me.
Hey great video. The gym i go to got a new rope and I couldn't figure out how to get up. I watched your video and I was able to make it to the top on my first try using the S method. I was surprised that your instruction made it so easy. Great work. 👍
Me watching a rope climb tutorial on my recommendations: Psst who needs a tutorial for rope climbing? 5 secs later after the video starts: *What is this wizardry*
had a dream about climbing a rope using the wrap around method. I never knew the wrap around method, or even how to climb a rope. I just remembered the dream, and decided to find out how to. Really helpful. Thanks!
I tried your technique today and it actually works! I appreciate you showing this video, I never thought I could climb a rope as far as I did today! Thank you!
The ropes are durable and just like the ones at the gym. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTFxba6lNeHrZaHoY_LXe6ZzmMfaipnwu Caution: I bought the 50 feet ropes and they are long and heavy so make sure you have the space (I do have the space). If I was to do it again I would probably get a shorter version as 50 feet (25 feet each side) is a little long.
Thanks a ton dude. Playing only soccer, I have a lot more leg strength than upper body strength and this showed me how to properly utilize it. Thanks again!
I ship off in a week to MCRD San Diego and I’ve never climbed a rope before. Watch this video everyday other day so I know what to do at basic training.
Lol, I’m going to an Obstacle Training Ground with some friends today and I’ve never been able to climb the rope 🤣. I knew the theory of the S method but I could never actually do it! This will help a lot! Thanks!!
Man thanks for the detailed technique video! I have struggled with rope climbing since boot camp I still can’t get it right. Gravity will not allow me the time to practice! I recommend the Garmot boot
I got AIC in a week and so I was worried about the rope since I’m assuming for the IPA I can’t fail the rope and I literally just did it at the o course at like 5PM lmaoo watching your demonstration helped so much, wish me luck boys
I learned the wrap around method in boot back in '96. The instructor here completely loses his wrap on the climb and reapplies it after crunching his body towards his hands. When I was instructed on how to do it, we kept the wrap and only loosened the hold to move our legs up. It makes locking the rope back in place that much easier and quicker, should you start to lose your grip with your hands. Only someone who has spent an incredible amount of time in the gym getting muscles like this man, can completely let the wrap go and make it work.
Same here and also graduated Sand Hill Infantry School, Dco 1/19, in 96. Drill Sgts Taurez, Swanson and Allen. Our C.C. was Bennet. Graduated Sabalauski Airassault School end of same year. Wrap around method was the strongest lock for me and it functions exactly as you describe.
It helped a lot before knowing these techniques i struggled a lot that's blisters on lrgs and hands but after using these method i have climed it 5 times in a row
I learned the wrap around method in at MCRD in 1971. Nobody used the J-hook method back then. Now it looks like the J-hook method is preferred. It is good that they still let you use the old school method. New is not always better.
I prefer the wrap around method but the S-method is more practical when training for the Spartan race. The wrap around method is hard on my bare skin (leg) when doing it wearing shorts. Thanks for the sharing your technique!
I can already climb ropes, I’ve been able to climb them ever since the 5th grade, but I wanted to see more techniques. I can wrap my legs around the rope or just pull with nothing but my arms and leave the legs dangling.
Got to give this man credit for climbing a rope like 7 times in a row just to explain how to do it
Ye I couldn’t do that
If you use the technique correct its all its mostly on the legs and they can handle it just fine
Naruto didn't work that hard in the whole series except for barking
You’d be surprised. When my Sgt showed me these techniques it became cake walk lol almost no effort is needed.
@@acid_1318was gonna practice this but that walk to some cake sounded better 😂
This was EXTREMELY helpful. Well recorded, well explained. Thanks a lot

Great - it took only 40 sek from the beginning of the video to see how to do it. Thanks. Normally guys talk 15 mins first - love their voices.
