    Hi Dom, First time visiting your channel and now a subscriber! Excellent video and very interesting. Ive shot all 3 major brands and am currently shooting Sony. For me, the a1 is the winner here, but I can understand why others might pick the R3. The ability to crop in aggressively is such a huge advantage. Also, the fact that the body size is smaller with the option of a grip I feel is a good thing. You can opt for either where as with the Canon you cannot. I have normal size hands and the smaller body with closer button layout has never been an issue. You cant lose with either camera and you have to go with what best suits you. Again, excellent video and I look forward to viewing future content! best, Rick

      I agree, for me being able to capture 50mp (compressed raw) at 30fps is incredible. Especially when you get all that detail in a large image.

    The super35 mode of the A1 is exquisite, with an outstanding image quality at 60fps. Many reviews forget to mention it.

    Canon's industrial design is definitely superior. Sony's body form needs revising. Too many sharp edges that rub away paint and look shit.

      I sold all my Sony gear (A1 + 2 GM2 lenses) due to the Sony's body design. One of those sharp edges (the one by the exposure comp dial) literally injured my thumb on the A1. Hard to understand what Sony was thinking with their designs.

      @@mikede2464 Exactly. Those shitty sharp edges are a nightmare. The paint finish is crap and the rubber grip is just cheap and nasty.

      @@mbismbismb I fully understand that, I guess I’m just fine with it. My hands are larger, but it dose not bother me. We are in a great time with so much options available to us. Even though I try to stick to GM lenes with Sony, I appreciate all the choices we have with mount lenses.

  • @zacbatx1017

    As far as the smaller Sony body they consulted with their Associated Press and other pro photographers that preferred the smaller size so they can more easily pack more camera bodies into smaller bags and add the grip if needed. As a sports photographer I also prefer the smaller camera body so I can pack an extra lens.

    Good video but as an owner of both Canon and Sony systems one has to call a biased review when I see one. That being said the R3 is Canon’s first stacked sensor and great to see they are on that path (but was really hoping for a global shutter). The A1 is a much better camera but both are great tools in the hands of a good photographer. Look forward to the A1 ii and the R1 which will be a real comparison we have been awaiting.

  • @ajalbetjr
    @ajalbetjr 2 роки тому +6

    The bottom line of it is quite simple: 50.1 megapixels at up to 30 fps vs 24.1; also Sony has 8K video, HDMI jack output not mini which is a huge deal in and of itself, you have 2 not 1 CF Express card slots, BOTH OF WHICH CAN RECORD VIDEO AT THE SAME TIME NOT ONE, and so on... The R3 as mentioned below is closer in comparison to the Sony A9/A9II

    Strange review, felt biased from the beginning to end. For example, "I suppose the A1..." is mentioned over and over when the A1 specs outperform the R3. These two cameras aren't even a proper match for comparison - the R3 should be compared to the A9ii. Regarding size, interesting how the reviewer is in love with the massive, bulky R3 form factor and doesn't even consider how beneficial it is to be able to separate out the grip on the A1 on occasions when you need a more lightweight kit. Overall this review was pretty bad actually, didn't feel like I learned much of anything other than what a Canon homer thinks of his favorite brand.

    • @Fontsman
      @Fontsman 2 роки тому +3

      Agreed. Not very objective, often with a marked reluctance to credit any superior Sony feature. I will say that Sony need to review their body form. Not necessarily bigger, but a more rounded form with a tougher paint finish. Those sharp angles get paint rubs and catch so easily.

    • @NUMMiNO
      @NUMMiNO 2 роки тому +1

      True, it is biased. One of the biggest advantages of mirrorless cameras is weight compare to DSLR. A1 is compact and powerful, and that's what mirrorless cameras should be.

    I sense a bias here. I have tested R3 eye control focus and it is not something I would rely on processionally and many of my colleagues who use R3 on daily basis don't use it as much as they expected to. I also have on my shelf Nikon D5, Canon 1dx and Sony A1 mirrorless. I travel extensively and having a smaller body allows me to carry 3 Sony bodies(2 a1 and a9) in my carryon backpack which can remain slim instead of having to be really thick to carry the tall DSLR bodies. I started out with D1 in 1999 and I can't believe Canon and Nikon are still using that size body in their transition to mirrorless. It's just seems so anachronistic to hold R3 or Z9. Although the A1 is older now I am still blown away by the 50mpx sensor each and every day I upload images to Capture 1 on my Macbook 14. 24 mpx is so 2018. The 50mpx is very useful for me in sales as I can sell images with deep crops or give the editor an option to turn a horizontal into a vertical. The dynamic range of the sensor is also incredible. I am glad the A1 exists to really spur Canon to produce more. I am sure the R1 will blow our socks off and I credit Sony for really pushing the market not only with their sensor technology(as in Z9) but to give us a lot of features in a compact size. I am shooting everything in 8k with 1080p proxies and this gives me the option of quick editing videos as well as option of frame grabs if I need hi-res stills.

    Still would go with the R3, I have the R6 and R3 is an overkill to what I do, but right now in the Industry Canon is taking the Spot in the Mirrorless World with the C-log3 and the 10bit and IBIS. Not to mention the better menu system, touchscreen, and out of this world AUTOFOCUS. I am so glad I never switched to sony and waited Canon to do their thing.

    Idk why people make size a “smaller is better” I’m a big guy with big hands. Love larger cameras. Just feels better to shoot with for me personally but don’t think it’s a good comparison point. People with bigger hands tend to like heafty cameras and people with smaller hands like more compact cameras but it’s really not a huge deal. Still would pick cannon just because I’ve always favored it’s interface over Sony’s
