Hello Diane! Trip planning for us is a big part of a better Second Half of Life. Like so many others, we love travel. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers! M&D
As fares return to "normal" post-pandemic, the reasonably priced fares from Chicago to Madeira as published often have had long layovers in Madrid eastbound, then require an overnight stay in Madrid westbound. Recently, the cheapest Chicago to Porto routes are no more than than Chicago to Lisbon with more reasonable layovers in Madrid. That's why our ultimate plan to visit Madeira is first fly to Porto, spend a few days exploring what we didn't see last fall, use a budget airline to fly to Madeira for a week, then back to Porto to see Aveiro and Braga before returning home. Whatever you do, you will love Porto, though! We highly recommend the tour of the Pinhais sardine cannery in Matosinhos.
Hello Stephen! Wow you are a wealth of information! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with our subscribers! We always believe in making the lost of layovers! Why not right? Thanks as always for watching and commenting. Cheers! M&D
Hello Doug and Monique. Your videos are getting better and better and Funchal at night as your background is really spot on. Porto definitely is worth a visit. The other places I can’t comment because we haven’t been there. All the best
Hello Rui! Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words! We are excited to travel and share our adventures! Hope you and your family are well! Cheers! M&D
Hello! All the places on the list are so interesting to us!! We will share our adventure with you soon! Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers! M&D
Hi Doug and Monique! Thanks for the great suggestions. Nancy and I are definitely interested in going to Morocco. As far as the Canaries are concerned, I think we would choose Lanzarote with the cool volcanic landscape of the Timanfaya National Park. The Azores is another location that's definitely on out list. We definitely look forward to hearing about your travels in the future! Cheers!
Hello John and Nancy! So great to hear from you! Yes all amazing places close to our home. How lucky are we? Take care and thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers! M&D
I don't think you could go wrong with any of your choices! When you get to Porto be sure and give us a shout as we would love to meet up for a glass of wine or port!
Hello! Thanks for watching and we think you’re right- all great places!! If we end up in Porto we would love to! Please send us an email sometime so we can connect ! Cheers! M&D
Hello Miranda! Agreed- all amazing!! Porto right?? We have travelled through a lot of Portugal with our boys and back to Lisbon on our own, but somehow never Porto!! It’s a must for sure!! Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers! M&D
Fun video. I’ve been to 3 of your 5-Marseille, Madrid and Porto. If I had to choose one I’d vote for Madrid even though my French is way better than my Spanish. Have fun!!✈️
Hello! Yes we were going to include the prices but they truly vary day to day and as we are flexible we are always looking for a great price. We can tell you all under 150€ return per person. Thanks for watching and for the suggestion! Cheers! M&D
Hello! Yes Madrid sounds great! Oh that’s nice that you’re heading for a visit to S Korea!! ( side note- I’m obsessed with UA-cam channels on lifestyle from S Korea!) 😆 We have spent some time in Asia, but never yet S Korea. It’s on the list!! Thanks for watching! Cheers! M&D
Hello Diana! Yes Morocco would be quite different! All amazing locations to spend some time!! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Cheers! M&D
When Europeans laugh at us Americans ( Canadians too?) about not travelling overseas, I don't think they fully appreciated just how expensive it is to fly from North America to anywhere else. I didn't fully appreciate it until I lived overseas for a while & then went back. North American air carriers definitely take the piss out of us. Your selection of destinations sounds great. Hope to see your videos about those places.
Hello! Ah we hear you! As a teacher I was only able to travel at high times. The prices literally went up the day I was available and down when I had to go back to work. Travel throughout Europe whether by air or train is so much less expensive and easier than coming from North America. We are so happy that we now have these options! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Cheers! M&D
Hello Tinglestingles! That’s great that you’re heading to Madrid! Exactly cooler and less crowded - so much to see there. Have a great time! Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers! M&D
The flights to mainland make sure you take touristic seats, if you take executive seats or if there's an option to change the flight after you purchase you will lose the residence refund
Hello Silvia!! It’s on the list for sure!! We have spent some time in Innsbruck and loved it. We know there is so much more to discover. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers! M&D
Wherever you go I’m sure you’ll have a blast-love how you’re spicing up your videos -trip planning! Sounds super!! 👍
Marseille is so fun. Went all around France in 2010. Go have fun!!
Hello Diane! Trip planning for us is a big part of a better Second Half of Life. Like so many others, we love travel. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers! M&D
Yes Marseille! So old, so much history and the soap ( Doug not so excited about the soap 🤪) cheers! M&D

Great information. However prices for each flight would've been great. Thanks again.
Hello! Yes we were going to include the prices but they truly vary day to day and as we are flexible we are always looking for a great price. We can tell you all under 150€ return per person. Thanks for watching and for the suggestion! Cheers! M&D
Madrid would be nice, I am going to visit my family which is S.Korea for couple of months end of September. Any plan for you guys to travel Asia?

Morocco! You can dream about opening "Doug & Monique's Cafe Americain," a place filled with international intrigue...and a few Bogart impersonators!
Hello!! Ha ha! Wouldn’t that be something! Thanks for watching and making us laugh! Cheers! M&D
How fun! All these places look amazing.. but I think I would chose Morocco since is super different :) Blessings.
Hello Diana! Yes Morocco would be quite different! All amazing locations to spend some time!! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Cheers! M&D
Trips to Morocco to eat fresh dates is one of the reasons I want to retire in Portugal ❤

Using your words, airlines really take a “piss out of us” especially during school holidays with the extortionate prices.
@@ruinunes8251 One of the reasons I prefer travelling by rail. I love travelling by rail in Europe.
@@morgan97475 In UK trains are not cheap either.
