    Something hilarious to add about Aeneas is that at one point during the Iliad, Apollo dupes him into 1v1ing _Achilles_ under the logic that since Achilles is stomping the Trojans so bad because he's under his mother Thetis's protection, and since Aeneas's mother, Aphrodite, outranks Thetis in power, Aeneas should be able to beat Achilles handily. The Trojans didn't actually find the horse and just say "Seems Legit", a priest named Laocoon saw it and immediately thought what we all did and said that it was clearly a trap. To prove it he stabbed the horse several times with a spear narrowly missing one of the Greeks inside. The next night two snakes swam in from the sea and fucking murdered him and his two sons before slithering off to the temple of Athena and since snakes are symbols of Athena the trojans were like holy shit this is a monument to Athena and took it inside the city. Athena however favored the Greeks because of the whole golden apple thing and so, she sent the snakes to convince the Trojans that the horse was legit.

The Italian word "torta" is used to refer to both pies and cakes. I love the musical symbology of the musical stings when The Prophecy is mentioned- when Zeus plays, it's a simple one-note power chord. When it's Apollo- the first god of music- it's a quick little riff that requires a modicum of technical skill. And then Hermes, who took over the role of music god from Apollo, gets a full-on orchestra. :)

    Also important to note is that Athena is also mythologically associated with horses. She is credited with teaching humanity how to tame the horse, as well as inventing both the bridle and the chariot. For this, she was even referred to as “Athena Hippia,” translated as “Athena of the Horses.” I just felt that you missed out on the most important detail that associates Athena with horses.

      stillwatersrundeep i’m cofused if the trojen war actially happened if it didnt then i would be wondering that as well. If it did happen i think Helan had more autonomy though getting kidnaped & taken to another land you cant really use that autonomy

    The Aeneid was also a way for Rome to assert its place and fit into in the larger narrative of the Greek cultural world by tying their empire's history to Troy.

      Itty Tendo while I agree Bacchus (guessing we’re suppose to call Them by their Romain names) was fantastic, Pluto (or whatever the official name is because apparently he had 3 Latin-origin names) gets more points of comedy from me for going through the effort of taking his helmet off then casually putting it back on afterward

      Cultural Perspective. Just like how kidnaping your soon-to-be SO was A-OK to the Greek/Romans, so was racing naked. In fact, doing such feats naked were actually easier as spandex was not invented for a couple thousand years and the clothing wouldn't produce drag.

    Woooo! I finally finished the Aeneid today after trudging through it little by little for the past four years. I had saved this video as my completion reward, and it didn't disappoint! Also, I finally know where the prophecy meme comes from!!!
    I was so expecting you to mention more of book IX more, though. I was hysterical the entire time reading it. But, it's a summary.

      Sir Knight
      Different people tend to learn differently. The OP may have not learned much at English due to a lack of active engagement in the text, or found it incredibly boring. Trust me, history or English aren't the most fun of subjects. The video, however, uses to the point summaries, coupled with fun little gimmicks and a pleasing storyline to make the tales memorable! :D

    • @sirknight4981
      @sirknight4981 6 років тому +2

      I can understand that but I guess I was kind of confused by them saying they studied it for a month. I love history but for ELA I mainly read informational text, I have read older stuff like The Elements, Herodotus' The Histories, some of the Bible, and a little bit of the Odyssey(which I liked) and I thought they were fine. They were Goodreads if you had a book guide that gave you historical background to them and stuff like that. I enjoyed reading those guides as well because I like learning about historical stuff like time period slang that makes certain wordplay work and references that a person from the time-period would probably get but that are obscure to us.

      Sir Knight do read it though, and get yourself caught up with Roman history until Augustus. It's undeniably a masterpiece and I'd love to explain why with some examples but that would make a long comment... But I'm willing to defend the work against these 2 Huns 😜
