A followup three years later - During his first Late Night appearance on July 24, 1986, George Clinton clarified the various personnel on the LP and declared that both parties were actually correct. (It was while he was reading his own Top Ten list.) I believe there’s a clip of it somewhere on the UA-cams…
The episode with Robert Clint, er- Robert Klein is my favorite of them all. I caught it as a rerun during Hal Gurnee week. Just pure chaos. I always wondered what the Melman reference meant during George's top ten. I had an idea, but nice to finally see it. Barely related: you should do a supercut of intros before Late Night repeats.
@@granthorne3526 I had planned a compilation of every “Intro to Repeat” clip, but time ran out, and, unfortunately, that won’t happen now. I tweeted a sample the beginning of 2021. I’ll see if I can find it.
Oh PLEASE Please please please, do a run of Larry ''Bud'' Melman bits, back to back on one long video. Let these children learn. Larry ''Bud'' Melman changed television forever. the Future needs to know, groc, Larry ''Bud'' Melman. PLEASE !!!!
This is the second time Dave and Paul get held up at gunpoint by a staffer. In Melman's favor, he handles that gun better than he handled the microphone at the Port Authority.
From what I hear, it was purged not long after NB was sold to GE. And what of that giant beautiful RCA broadcast turntable?! Probably sent out for scrap.
They're talking Funkadelic.....in '83. Fantastic. The audience was crickets and it doesn't even matter. This show is so imitated, I can't even get over it. They're talking Eddie Hazel....in 1983! On NBC. Unbelievable.
This is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Thank you again, Letterman. Hahahahahahahahahahah Hahahahahahahahahahah Hahahahahahahaha Hahahahahaha Ha
My favorite part of this is that they let the elevator door completely close… and then took a beat before they cut and cut to a completely closed elevator door again…
I read an article that the NBC record archive on the 7th floor of 30 Rock was completely digitized and they tossed all of those albums. All of the tape and film libraries were digitized too. They even got rid of all the old percussion instruments used for sound effects in the radio days. Tens of thousands of dollars worth of instruments thrown in the trash.
Very unlikely. They might have gotten rid of the albums, but could have easily found a new home for them. People will gobble up old stuff being given away.
had my friends and i met Larry Bud back then we would have pursued him until he went out with us for drinks and whatever else it took to produce an epic story. then i would have had a story to tell here. darn.
"Cut 6" sure sounds an awful lot like The Price Is Right's "Cliffhangers" music... which, in fact, happens to be a clip from "On The Franches Mountains" by Jura Orchestra from the 1957 compilation album "Swiss Mountain Music." And yes, I *am* intentionally being meta.

Keep up the good work, Don!

Don! So glad to see you here!
I'm happy Don Giller is here. He's been single handedly sustaining us all these years. Late Night Fan Club President.
This piece is so brilliant. I’m so grateful they made time for it on the show.
The Melman always delivers.
That’s what I was thinking, but you said it so well
"You're breaking my heart!" LB Melman
this is probably the best video I've even seen
.
This is Gold, Jerry.........GOLD !!
.
I'd forgotten about Bud Melman. This is great.
The way Larry says “Funkadelic” at 0:50 is too much 😂
A dangerous word for the writers to expect him to pronounce.
Can you imagine how difficult it was to resolve arguments like that before the internet?
Whoever wrote this sketch is a mad genius.
I always feel blessed to have been in the "target demo" when that show was on. MAN it was good.
@@plaws0 what's that ?
I love it when Dave jumps just after Mr. Melman goes "all right chumps" LOL
This scratches every itch.
3:55 that laugh 😂
Thank god there was no copyright infringement on the "Polka Yodel".
sounded like he said polkl yodel

You should check out Don Giller's channel he has hour plus compilations of Larry Bud segments.
I love old television clips on youtube, and I've really tried to appreciate Melman, but he's just not funny
fond memories of watching these old broadcasts when they aired live... on acid. Melman was a trip!!
Some say they are still locked in the record library to this very day…
Larry Bud actually had some acting chops in this one lol
I'm guessing they had to do multiple takes of each of his lines.
This is the second time Dave and Paul get held up at gunpoint by a staffer. In Melman's favor, he handles that gun better than he handled the microphone at the Port Authority.
Paul and Dave look so young and nubile. Hey, Larry Bud did a great body of work, Thanks for the memories.
Masterpiece.
I need to know if the record library still exist! lol
From what I hear, it was purged not long after NB was sold to GE. And what of that giant beautiful RCA broadcast turntable?! Probably sent out for scrap.
I bet Larry knows all the words to "Heartbeat, it's a love beat".
I only know that’s by Little Tony DeFranco and the DeFranco Family because of Reservoir Dogs.
Showed he knew good music. The Defranco Family rocked!

Hahahahahaha
Ha
This is the greatest thing I have ever seen. You don't get this from Fallon...
So this is why Bob Dylan requested Paul to meet Larry Bud Melman when he was on the show. (Paul's true story that he wanted to meet him)
Does the building still have the record library? Can you imagine getting to check that out
My favorite part of this is that they let the elevator door completely close… and then took a beat before they cut and cut to a completely closed elevator door again…
Melman jams with RUN DMC- DONT. QUESTION. HIS. MUSIC. KNOWLEDGE.
ONE OF MY FAVORITES... I still say "shut up, bigmouth"
Gotta love Calvert

That's a shame 😔😔😔

Calvert actually did a great acting job in this!
love dave

I doubt you would have been able to extract an epic story from him. Try watching a real interview with him out of character and without a script.
How about the transit authority video with Bud Melman?
Have a hot towel.
Well Pauls head size still plays true! lol
I can only hope Larry was prosecuted for his crimes.
He always got off scot-free.
He was. He got the death penalty too, under the 3 strikes law. He died Mar 19, 2007.
YEA !! 😡 THEY SHUD LOCK HIM UP AND THROW AWAY THE KEY !!!
I like to imagine this is raw documentary footage.
Larry Bud can funk that sh!t on up.
So, are Dave and Paul still in there? They must've got through all the Pat Boone by now.
Let's have some Brother Theodore clips.
When TV was still just silly.
lol

So weird!
Ouch. Soooo bad
