Hey there, love your channel! I appreciate the realness… sharing your, and your families authentic journey, especially recipe fails and foibles. Cause come on, who doesn’t f-up (love that you cuss also!) when cooking? You’re just real enough to share it with us, which is both, entertaining, and encouraging… the fear of failure stops people from trying. Thank you for generously being you!
Thank you so much!! This was such a lovely message to get - it truly means a lot so thank you for taking the time to do so. I've spent my life failing and soldering on, that's just what life is - we've never hidden our failures from our kids - and so I'm glad it comes off that way in our videos and I hope it does inspire others as you've suggested. Truly appreciate this - lots of love from me and my clan!
Buy borrow bypass or bounce. I have this cookbook and was one of the suggesters. Can add that I made the Good Morning Muffins and at first thought they were just okay but I froze some and now am loving them with any fruit and sometimes almond butter as an evening snack. Also hang in there, Annie. Braces are a pain but so worth it!
I really enjoy your very practical cookbook reviews, and the general feeling of honesty tempered with kindness and good humor in all your videos. And, for what it's worth, I think it's lovely that you are setting a good example for your children by being polite and graceful to the rude and judgmental folks who think it's okay to publicly insist that you raise your kids according to their beliefs.
Thank you for this. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I read and consider all the comments, but I also know what I want to do with this channel - if I just did whatever everyone says it would no longer be our channel, which is what so many people - yourself included - love about it. We're not perfect, but neither is anyone else. Thanks again for taking time to write this very meaningful comment. Truly appreciate it!

Hi- I'm a new subscriber (from Wisconsin in the US) and love your videos. I'm working to expand my repertoire of WFPB meals and your cookbook reviews have so useful for that. And I love hearing from your kids and how they like or dislike the dishes you make. You have a delightful family. I also have a cookbook to add to your review list (unless it is already there). It is called First Mess by Laura Wright and she is also from the Toronto area . The recipes in the book and on her website are vegan though often higher fat and higher sugar than I'm aiming for and I haven't yet made anything. But I plan to. I'd love to see what you do with her recipes. It is also such an interesting cookbook to read. Thanks for your youtube channel. It is so helpful to me.
Glad it was helpful! For every person who has an issue with me improvising on the fly I know there's 5 more people who benefit from me having to wing it sometimes :)
OMG this book sounds like a winner for us. Hubby is gluten free and you guys really tried recipes we are interested in. That buckwheat bread looks amazing. Teff, huh- who’d a thunk it? 🤓

The cooking is great and so are the reviews, but your family is just awesome....just the way they are. I am always happy to see a new video from you in my feed, as I know I am going to get honest reviews and lot's of laughs. I know some commenters say negative things about your kids table manners. Complete BS!!! As a mom that lost her 21 year old son to suicide, I would give anything to see his mouth full of food again and talking at the same time.😔 Childhood is so precious and fleeting! So cheers to kids and to great food!!
Thank you for sharing this - it gives so much perspective. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss but appreciate you sharing with all of us. Glad that our videos bring you such joy. Big hugs to you!
Hey Jeremy and family (Happy Christmas by the way), my neighbour got me Ashley Madden's first cookbook as a neighbour-Christmas-gift today! It's not the one you reviewed here but it's her first cookbook so I came and re-watched this review. Although I have my entire plant-based meals planned for Christmas tomorrow, on Boxing Day I'm going to make a couple of the recipes. Exciting.
Have you looked at Plantiful Kiki? She wrote Plantifully Lean and lost 70 pounds with the McDougall program and the 50-50 plate. Her husband and 2 kids eat this way and her recipes are great! I love your videos and your family all trying these foods. I have most of the cookbooks you are going through, this is wonderful! Kudos to you and your wonderful family ❤
I just got this book and had to rewatch your video. I am a little intimidated by the 2 page recipes but after watching your video, I’m definitely going to try some. I wasn’t going to try the bread but after your review, I’ll give it a shot. I am making a list for the different grains in this book that I’ve never tried before. Number one recipe I want to try is the Chili Shepherd’s Pie with Sour Cream Potatoes. Hope it tastes as good as it looks! 😋
I love that you improvise with what you have and I love that you make mistakes because this is reality. Makes me feel better when it happens to me. Also, these reviews have gotten me to try recipes I never would have before and I have found some new favorites. Love this series!

Thanks for the video! I am glad you landed on the word "bypass" as your 3rd "b" word, as seen in other videos. I don't know if you are aware of this, the Vitamix cleans itself! All you have to do is fill it half way with water and a drop of washing liquid, run if for one minute and rinse.
Oh - well aware - but depending on what's in it, it can take a few rounds - it's more that I find with thicker liquids you lose a percentage of it - more than you would in a food processor. Alas!

You and your daughter impersonating each other had me literally LOLing. Spot on! I think you should do a video of the recipes she rates five stars. Since she’s so picky I feel like if she gives it five stars, it HAS to be good!
Thank you Jeremy and family for another great video. I had my eyes on this book for a while, will look to borrow it from the library. My daughter is gluten free as well and the pancakes look really good. Jeremy your channel is my "NEW FAVOURITE" 😄
Oh wow! Thank you! So happy we're at the top of your favs list! What else is on it? Most of the recipes on my website are GF - or at least I explain how to do it that way.

I really really like your cookbook reviews, thank you so much! I will make the shakshuka recipe tomorrow, but without the black salt, because I never liked the smell/flavor of real eggs. P.S. The impersonations were hilarious 😄
Ha - glad you enjoyed the impersonation :) My wife doesn't always love the black salt either, but for those who want the eggie flavour it does the trick

My favorite vegan bread machine bread recipe: Flax and Sunflower Seed Bread 1 1/3 cups water 1 teaspoon salt 2 Tablespoons oil 3 Tablespoons honey or maple syrup 1½ cups unbleached flour 1 1/3 cups whole wheat flour or more unbleached flour ½ cup ground flax seeds ½ cup sunflower seeds 1 teaspoon active dry yeast Place all ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order given. Select large dark bread cycle. Press start.
You guys are hilarious (as always). I always look forward to your videos. Everything looked really good, so I will have to get my hands on a copy of this cookbook! Those pancakes! I recently ordered a bag of teff to use as cooked grain, but I could grind it into flour. Hmmm… I get specialty grains from Azure Standard, but I’m not sure if they deliver to Canada. Not that I don’t trust you, but the French major 🤓 in me looked up the pronunciation of poutine. The québécois pronunciation is poutin as you said it. I have been using zee French pronunciation of pouteen all this time! Silly me. 😎 Enjoy the last days of summer!
Thanks!! Because Poutine is a Canadian dish I'd defer to the Québécois pronunciation - but I mean, it's fries, cheese and gravy - just smash it into your face and don't worry :)
Thanks for trying out all these recipes! ❤ I like having the kid's input, their flavour/texture palate seems to match mine. Suggestion: have each person describe the flavours they taste in the dish. Different palates will be able to pick out different flavours. Since we all have different palates and flavour preferences this will be more useful verses if a dish is "good" or "bad"
Thanks! Oh - I try to get more description out of the kids, but sometimes by dinner they're so tired from the day it's all I can do to get them to talk at all :) That's why Woolie and I try to be more descriptive - but I'll continue to encourage them to be more descriptive :)
I am definitely trying the Band Aid Bread with that raving review- it LOOKS delicious We are so lucky that you and the fam bam do the hard work for us- definitely appreciate you lot😊thanks from NZ
My favorite vegan chili (from McCormick): 3-Bean Chili 1 onion, chopped 1 green or red bell pepper 2 cloves garlic ½ cup dry red wine 1 14.5 oz. can diced tomatoes 1 15 oz. can each black beans, dark red kidney beans, and great northern or pinto beans, drained and rinsed 4 teaspoons chili powder 1 teaspoon each cumin, oregano, and basil ½ teaspoon ground black pepper 2 teaspoons molasses green or red onions, chopped In a skillet with a little oil, sauté onion until golden, then add bell pepper and cook until caramelized. Add garlic and cook a little. Add spices and cook 1 min. Add tomatoes and cook 15 min. or more. Add remaining ingredients except green/red onions. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes or longer, stirring occasionally. Serve with rice, topping with green/red onions, and optionally avocado and cilantro leaves.
My favorite vegan gravy recipe: Mushroom Gravy 1 onion, diced 10 to 16 oz. mushrooms, minced 2 cloves garlic, minced Bell's seasoning (or substitute sage, thyme, rosemary, black pepper, and a little oregano) s & p 2 c vegetable broth 2 T low sodium soy sauce ¼ c flour sherry In a skillet, saute onion in some oil with some salt. When onions brown some, move to outer edges of pan and add mushrooms in the middle. Saute until most of their moisture is gone. Clear space in the center of the skillet and add the garlic and some oil. Saute until golden. Add some Bell's seasoning and some freshly ground black pepper and cook a few min. Sprinkle flour over vegetables and stir to combine and cook a bit. Add broth and soy sauce and stir to combine. Stir frequently as it thickens. Add sherry towards the end of cooking.
Great video. Love seeing new recipes. Suggestion of recipe books to try for future videos are either of the cookbooks by fellow Canadian Dreena Burton. Kind Kitchen or Plant-Powered Families.
Hi Jeremy! I am very excited about this book! I was enticed by most of the recipes. Don't think I would like the lentil soup because I am not a fan of Indian spices, or the porridge, not sure about that one. But everything else looks delicious! The bread, tofu shakshuka, PB&caramel cookies, chili, beet balls, poutine and pancakes look so good! 😋 My library doesn't have the book, so I may order it through your link (it's in my cart). I will get her other book you mentioned first and see if I like that one. Thank you!
@@pbwithjeremyI decided to order this book thru your link to Amazon, based on your strong recommendation. I absolutely love cookbooks and have a amassed a great library at home. I love to be able refer to them anytime I want. I like “buy, borrow or bypass”. 😊

@@pbwithjeremy I first ate teff in an Ethiopian restaurant, as a kind of bread that was served with various wonderfully seasoned vegetables. Delicious! I've used it to make chocolate cakes and cookies. Thank you for your great videos!
Love your cookbook reviews Jeremy!Even though I live in Tasmania. Lots of interesting recipes in this one. Hang in there with your braces Annie, things will improve. ❤️
Your son said ‘I approve‘ in such a professional way 😂 As for the spaghettis… Do you know how to spin them on a fork so that you get a perfect twirl? The secret is to take just a few (2-3) and start spinning. We learn it when we are babies and it’s really fun, even for adults. 😋
Haha - he's a professional kid. Thanks for the spaghetti twist. I WAS THE MASTER of this as a kid. Now I'm like, "I mean, twirling's cook, but I want my pasta NOW" :)
Just a suggestion - substitute half of the tomatoes with butternut squash cubes in the Shakshuka recipe. Almost the same texture as the tomatoes and cuts the tomato in half.
I'd love the link to the yogurt video 😄 I hope Annie isn't still in pain from her braces. She's growing up, she apologized for the brownies in her teeth.💟We understand Annie! But Thank you ☺️✌️
Annie says thank you! She's totally feeling fine now. Here's the link to the video where I FAIL AND FINALLY SUCCEED at making yogurt: ua-cam.com/video/GsC3dFH3U9M/v-deo.html
WOW you made a lot of recipes out of this book. Stuff I have never seen before, and some that I've seen but not made like this recipe put it together. I agree with Annie, the chili really did look like poo. LOL. Oh that was hilarious. And yet, she liked it! Which was funnier yet. At the end of this video, Woolie came out pushing her hair back, and not expecting to be on video. But she looked adorable. Looked like she either just woke up or just got out of the shower - her hair was very full and beautiful. Thanks for doing all the hard work and testing these books out for your viewers. It really affects what I think and whether I buy it or not. Again - thanks! Tell us how your wife got the nickname (unless it's too personal).
Plant-based cooking for kids, by Faith Goimarac Ralph’s. Keep in mind this is for little kids, BUT my tweens love it! Lots of great practical advice on how to include your kids in the kitchen. Plus the recipes themselves are yummy! Smashed potatoes with the plant based Parmesan recipe is so yummy. It’s the park recipe we make a large batch and keep in the pantry(like the “old” parm in the green can, but ohhh so much better for you) The recipes are great. The side notes and add on recipes make the book great!
Ok, a few things 😂😂 1. I confess I replayed the towel snap several times and Laughed Out Loud every time! 😂 2. I totally understand the mouth pain, Annie! Funny story - after getting my braces rewired/tightened one time, my mom and I went shopping then out for Mexican food (my fave). By the time we got to the restaurant, I couldn’t even THINK of eating the tortilla chips (again, my FAVE) and all I could handle was barely licking the refried beans. I was SO sad that day. 3. Love your channel, your family’s honest reactions, the humour. Thank you! Smiles from Ireland 🇮🇪

So glad! Let us know what you explore with!
You and your daughter impersonating each other had me literally LOLing. Spot on! I think you should do a video of the recipes she rates five stars. Since she’s so picky I feel like if she gives it five stars, it HAS to be good!
Awwww - glad you enjoyed this so much. I LOVE the idea of an Annie's Favs compilation. Once she likes enough things I'll do it :)
@@pbwithjeremy I really enjoy content from Pick Up Limes, Well your World, Vegan Michele, Simnett Nutrition (his lentil tofu is insanely good) Broccoli Mum and Plant-based with Jane Esselstyn, to just name a few. But I enjoy your content so much because of your kids, it's exactly how it is in my home with my kids LOL.
So what you're saying is I can't get rid of my kids.... UGH... FINE.
Love all these people you mentioned! Glad to be mentioned amongst them :)
@@pbwithjeremy yup I’ve got 4 kids, 3 still live with me, just can’t get rid of them. Maybe my cooking is too good?🤔😂
Yes - you need to reduce your skills!
I am going to see if my library has or can get this cookbook for me - thanks Jeremy and family 👍
Our pleasure!
I really really like your cookbook reviews, thank you so much! I will make the shakshuka recipe tomorrow, but without the black salt, because I never liked the smell/flavor of real eggs.
P.S. The impersonations were hilarious 😄
Ha - glad you enjoyed the impersonation :)
My wife doesn't always love the black salt either, but for those who want the eggie flavour it does the trick
🌿 Hi.. Just found your channel. Informative & entertaining. I love cookbooks and I appreciate you diving into one that i don't own.... yet. All the recipes you made looked good to me. Your family is great !!! 🌿 Best wishes from Pacific Northwest Washington state. 🌷🌿🌷🌿🌷🌿🌷🌿🌷
Awesome! Thank you! I strongly recommend this one :)
Love your family love your videos!
Thank you so much!
My favorite vegan bread machine bread recipe:
Flax and Sunflower Seed Bread
1 1/3 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons oil
3 Tablespoons honey or maple syrup
1½ cups unbleached flour
1 1/3 cups whole wheat flour or more unbleached flour
½ cup ground flax seeds
½ cup sunflower seeds
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
Place all ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order given.
Select large dark bread cycle.
Press start.
Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Another great video! I recently bought this book and looking forward to cooking from it!
Wonderful! You'll have to come back and let us know what you tried!!!
Silly me. 😎
Enjoy the last days of summer!
Thanks!! Because Poutine is a Canadian dish I'd defer to the Québécois pronunciation - but I mean, it's fries, cheese and gravy - just smash it into your face and don't worry :)
Another fun cookbook review - thank you!
Our pleasure!
@@pbwithjeremy No pressure, I still love the videos!
Just discovered your channel and am loving it. You have a great family too.
Thank you so much!
You have inspired me to try more from this book. Xx
Oh yeah!
I am definitely trying the Band Aid Bread with that raving review- it LOOKS delicious
We are so lucky that you and the fam bam do the hard work for us- definitely appreciate you lot😊thanks from NZ
Our pleasure! And my wife actually really liked the bread despite the Band Aid :)
Love these cookbook reviews!!
More to come!
Your channel is great.. love your family.. u keep it so real👍🙏😊👏
Thanks - not everyone appreciates that but glad you do!
Great video thanks!! 😊
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for your work l loved everything you made
You have a very special family 😊
Thank you so much! This is really lovely :) Glad you're enjoying what we do!
We eat a lot of buckwheat at our home. It has a more earthy flavor that may take some getting used to.
We've started using more of it ourselves :)
My favorite vegan chili (from McCormick):
3-Bean Chili
1 onion, chopped
1 green or red bell pepper
2 cloves garlic
½ cup dry red wine
1 14.5 oz. can diced tomatoes
1 15 oz. can each black beans, dark red kidney beans, and great northern or pinto beans, drained and rinsed
4 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon each cumin, oregano, and basil
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoons molasses
green or red onions, chopped
In a skillet with a little oil, sauté onion until golden, then add bell pepper and cook until caramelized.
Could probably do without that oil, but sounds good otherwise!
I think the molasses makes it.

I know. Buy, borrow, bypass!!!!! 🎉
My favorite vegan gravy recipe:
Mushroom Gravy
1 onion, diced
10 to 16 oz. mushrooms, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
Bell's seasoning (or substitute sage, thyme, rosemary, black pepper, and a little oregano)
s & p
2 c vegetable broth
2 T low sodium soy sauce
¼ c flour
sherry
In a skillet, saute onion in some oil with some salt.
Ohhh - thanks for sharing!!!
Mmm olives in pasta ?! I’ve never thought of that but need to try asap lol
OHMYGODIJUSTCHANGEDYOURLIFEYOUAREWELCOME!!!! :)
Another great video! I hope Annie is feeling better and adjusting to her braces.
They are! Thanks for asking!
Great video. Love seeing new recipes. Suggestion of recipe books to try for future videos are either of the cookbooks by fellow Canadian Dreena Burton. Kind Kitchen or Plant-Powered Families.
Freena is on my list for sure!
You and your family are so 😎
That’s very sweet. I think of ourselves as a band of merry fools. But I’ll take 😎
@@pbwithjeremy love it!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
@@pbwithjeremyI decided to order this book thru your link to Amazon, based on your strong recommendation. I absolutely love cookbooks and have a amassed a great library at home. I love to be able refer to them anytime I want. I like “buy, borrow or bypass”. 😊
I've really been waiting for this review. It seems like this book is for me. Thanks Jeremy, Woody (did I spell that correctly?), and to both the fun kids too!!
Thank you! Oh - it's Woolie :)
oops, thanks for the correction. Must be my seniors hearing, or not.@@pbwithjeremy
I also aren't always the clearest of speakers :)
I always thought buckwheat had a weird taste but man, she nailed it with bandaid! Lol
Uiiiiiiii the Spaguetti...... The brownies 🎉🎉🎉
The brownies are fire!
Loving teff!
Same here - we've used it a few times since!
@@pbwithjeremy I first ate teff in an Ethiopian restaurant, as a kind of bread that was served with various wonderfully seasoned vegetables. Delicious! I've used it to make chocolate cakes and cookies. Thank you for your great videos!
My pleasure! I want to use it for cookies
Love your cookbook reviews Jeremy!Even though I live in Tasmania. Lots of interesting recipes in this one. Hang in there with your braces Annie, things will improve. ❤️
Awesome! Thank you!
I’ve made Teff porridge and it’s delicious
Nice tip - I need to try that!
@@pbwithjeremy 😜
Love everything you do. Any chance of a raw vegan cookbook ( your choice ) ….
Doing a raw book is on my list!
Just a suggestion - substitute half of the tomatoes with butternut squash cubes in the Shakshuka recipe. Almost the same texture as the tomatoes and cuts the tomato in half.
Great idea!
To clean braces, it helps to use a Water Pik - I wish someone had told me that when I got braces! So you don't get cavities.
Oh - thanks for the tip!
Thank you for all this! I'll tell Woolie that :) It's not a great story - her maiden name is Woolner :)
@@pbwithjeremy - Ah ha - I see. Make sense!
The 3e B bury 😂😂😂
Plant-based cooking for kids, by Faith Goimarac Ralph’s. Keep in mind this is for little kids, BUT my tweens love it! Lots of great practical advice on how to include your kids in the kitchen. Plus the recipes themselves are yummy! Smashed potatoes with the plant based Parmesan recipe is so yummy. It’s the park recipe we make a large batch and keep in the pantry(like the “old” parm in the green can, but ohhh so much better for you) The recipes are great. The side notes and add on recipes make the book great!
Sadly that book isn't at my library - sounds delicious!!!!
Just getting started with plant based cooking. Can you recommend a book that has recipes with less ingredients ?( 8 or less if possible).
This one is a pretty good beginner book: ua-cam.com/video/8Uag3rj5DYs/v-deo.html
Ok, a few things 😂😂
1. I confess I replayed the towel snap several times and Laughed Out Loud every time! 😂
Welcome from Toronto! Annie appreciates that. It took her a beat for them to stop hurting.
I love these reviews-have you done Dreena’s Kind Kitchen?
No - but it's on the list!
Can you please review one of ThisSavoryVegan’s weekly dinner plans? Instead of a cookbook, she comes out with weekly dinner plans online and I just tried her roasted veggie ramen and it was amazing! I wanna try more of her recipes but I also wanna see you do a review and am curious what your family would think.
Great idea! I'm going to aim to do it later this fall - looks like their meal plans are free too which is amazing!
Bread and butter is a fabulous gluten free vegan baked goods book with a teff bread that tastes just like wheat bread to me. I would say you need a scale because it never comes out right unless I do weight. Would love to see you cook from it.
I am gf vegan too. I know how hard it is.
Thanks for that tip - adding that book to the list!
Hi! Where might I find that yogurt recipe pretty please? Thanks!
