That is really superb painting on the Ki-44. I have the Hasegawa Ki-61 and have been contemplating how to achieve the mottle. Thanks.

Thank you for sharing your skills and expertise on this project. I have recently purchased the Hasegawa 1/72nd scale kit and the Eduard photo etched kit for this model. Your video is going to be very helpful in my pursuit of completing my model. I hope to find information on the butterfly wing flaps that were unique to the aircraft and are represented in the Eduard photo etched kit. Thank you again for all your information. The idea of the difference in camouflage application never occurred to me, but is very logical.

      Hi Michael
      Many thanks for the message.
Don't let the fear of failure put you off, there's no such thing in modelling as a mistake that can't be rectified. Lots of Tojos were finished in a solid green, so you could always resort to that if the mottle fails - that was my back-up plan with this project although thankfully it wasn't needed.
      Best regards

I like the Ki.44 . Good kit apart from the gap between the wings are fuselage if I remember from my own Shoki . I also fitted the Moskit Exhausts .

Many thanks. I also have a bit of a soft spot for the Ki-44. I'm going to do the Hasegawa 1/32 in the not too distant future.

A nice kit Pete, the Hasegawa start was a help, good to not have to file/reapir sink marks. You can't beat Eduard for PE and I am a great beleiver in canopy masks. Nice plug leads. I find that the pressures of producing weapons platforms during wartime. Paint factories were bombed and the manufacturing plants needed to use any paint. In Germany in 45 many tanks were unfinished inside and went into battle in red-oxide. As for field painting well it was what you had to work with and often had to be painted fast.
Odd about the wing fit with a Hasegawa. Another demo of fine work in the cockpit, sadly not seen on completion until you peer in at odd angles. I like your use of pre-paint Alclad areas - very high level modelling, especially to get the texture changes. I am definitely going to get some Alclad Aluminium. You are dedicated if you spray the hinamarus but I understand your reluctance to use the out-of-scale decals.
Very tight mottling, I have an Iwata H-PB and only one nozzle but I do like the H&S Infinity. Unfortunately I have bought too many guns this year to justify another airbrush. I see you use a lot of AK interactive. I have had a lot of airbrush blockage so stick to Tamiya acrylic which sprays so easily. Any tips?
I spend a lot of time subtle chipping but I think the Alclad undercoat would be a much better technique as tanks tend to have a lot of chips. I'd like to hear of your disaster weathering as you have got it mastered now.

I'm not a japan maniac person, but I really like this plane!
It's just very interesting like their heavy fighters!

Thank you! I love the P-47 and always think of the Shoki as being the Japanese equivalent.
