I'm glad I found your channel, I'm a 60 year old male who is new to cycling because my doctor said to change or else. I have a low end bike Giant Cypress. My friend and I broke our first 50 mile ride yesterday 06/24/22. We normally ride 15-25 miles 4 times a week and the stock tires on my bike are already worn down quite a bit at roughly 1500 miles. I will keep watching your reviews. I wish we had bike trails like what I see in your videos. I've gone from I have to exercise to I enjoy riding and exercise is just an effect of riding.

My wife rides them to work 5 days a week, 16 km round trip, for the past year. Zero flats Upgraded after repeated frustrating flats with cheaper tires. Now Continental Contact Plus are my goto tire. Totally worth the higher price to avoid the inconvenience of a flat tire, IMO. I just put a second pair on another bike. I can get them on without needing tire levers, and risking pinching the tube. The trick is to seat the bead in the rim's center groove. That gives the clearance necessary to pull the last section of bead over the rim by hand. A helper to squeeze the tire all around, and get the bead centered, helps. But it's possible by yourself with patience.

Zero problem mounting these in 700x35 to aluminum rims. Didn’t need tire levers, only thumbs. Wiped the inner rim with a damp paper towel, lightly inflated the tube, and used the drop centre. Job done.

I bought these tires for my 29er MTB, for commuting use. After I bought them I took them on a 160km trip, with several rough off-road sections in the nearby mountains, and started beating them really hard. Had zero problems, needless to say.
What I dislike though it the rolling resistance. I feel like I had the brakes on when I am riding these tires (I have them in the 622/47 size).
To sum it up, great tires, can take any beating, but this comes with a price of weight and rolling resistance.

I just love those tyres. I use them on my bike for about 10 weeks now. Have been cykling 600 km on them and they are just awesome. I haven't felt them as loud, but that's maybe different from person to person. They feel super secure and puncture resistant. No problem with them so far.

Thanks for the feedback. I might have noticed the noise because I'd tested a few tires that had significantly less tread and were quieter in comparison.

4:03 I decided to give these conti’s a try so I purchased a set of 650Bx50 tires for my gravel bike. I only inflated to 65psi and measured tire width at 8 points around rim. Average width was 47mm not 50 as stated on label.
They were also brutal getting on my clincher rims. Appears to be a copy of the Schwalbe Marathon Plus tire in construction and tread pattern.
Offers good road asphalt surface traction and some moderate gravel traction.
They are a heavy tire and not foldable so take a spare WTB foldable 650Bx47 tire on tours as backup.

I have a 13 yo bike that came with Continental Contact 700x32 tires. I cycle commuted 25km for over 10 summers and replaced my back tire after about 30,000 km of riding. I always found the ride harsh on rough pavement and gravel/tar roads but the bike was quick and easy to ride compared to my mtb. I replaced the Contact with a Contact City last summer which is an 80 psi tire compared to the 85 psi. It smoothed out the ride considerably. After fooling around with reduced pressures, I'm running 80 psi on both tires. I don't think I ever will wear out the Contact on the front tire. I bought a commuter/hybrid with the 32mm wheels about two or three years too early and now it seems that 35-38mm are more common on a similar bike. I would like to try a 35 or larger tire but don't have the clearance on the bike.

I have this Tyre on the front wheel (700 x 32) and yes is very manoeuvrable and keeps the air well. After 10,000km not a single puncture. No sign of wear either. The reflective strip is a life saver. At the rear is the Continental Tour Ride (6000km), which I consider changing at some point. But not the front one, which will go for another 10-15,000km. Maybe more.

If you puncture a tyre as you're putting it on...sounds like you may be using tools to do so. Don't. Bare hands, yes you can. It's a tough tyre plus a narrow one but...this may help...work towards the valve. Why? Rule...the only reason you can mount a tyre by just pulling it over the edge instead of separating rim halves like on old Vespa's is the rim has a deep section. Some very wide car rims have it on one side. That's the place where the tyre can't be if the valve is in the way. So you don't start out there but right opposite of it, where the weld is.
Once the inner tyre is in place deflate it a bit so the outer tyre can plop into the deeper mid section. As you work your way around and the tension builds up, keep squeezing it off the high shoulder into the lower mid. It will stay there by itself only if there's enough tension. Put the wheel on a 40cm stool or something so you can stand and use some muscle. I pull towards me, almost like twisting a throttle but some push. Plop plop....don't fight the laws of physics...use them.

Nice vid 🙂👍, few months back i replaced a bontrager gr1 comp tyre that came along with my bike which is dual sport 2 with this tire in the vid, and I'm curios if this is a right tyre for hybrid or should i replace it with some other bontrager tyre.

I think it really comes down to the type of use. This is a really good tire for commuting. I’d argue that it’s my favourite one so far, but it has its weaknesses too.

I had 3 flats in 4 weeks (then another non puncture flat where the presta valve was left open). I plan on changing the rear tire ( where the puncture flats occurred) and was thinking of the Schwalbe Marathon Plus. I'm wondering whether this would be as puncture resistant but ride better.
    Any opinions?

@@pikijuiyii777 Hello. After using the "Continental Contact Plus" every day for about seven months (riding a total of approximately 5000 km), and having ridden with the "Schwalbe Marathon Plus" for some years, I honestly don't find any qualitative differences between one and the other. Let everyone choose the ones they prefer, with the absolute peace of mind that both options are great for commuting purposes.

Any tips on how to avoid them being wonky? The lines aren’t straight however I try to get them into the beads in an even way! I also needed a second person to wrestle the tires on by pushing then into rim all round. Still wonky though.

    • @peerperemans897
      @peerperemans897 5 місяців тому

More pressure as you mount it can help to get it in place. Soapy water helps but there's special stuff for that, too. Never use oil or grease. Another thing...some rim tape is half up the rim shoulder in places. That's a surefire way to have tyres not popping up on the shoulder where it should be, no matter how much pressure you dare to add. Watch the thin line where the molding hairs are, it should be just above the rim. Reflection strips may wobble separate from this.

@@BikeCommuterHero Mounted a pair of these yesterday and had more trouble with one than the other as well but overall wouldnt say it is a hard job (not 1 out of 5 anyway). Also don't think they are loud at all, far from an MTB tire that sound like a freighttrain. Compared to those they are deadsilent 😅 (but have to check for noise again on a less windy day)
