- Hello there, my dear viewers. Allow me to take you on a journey to the heart of Ireland, to the old graveyard in Trim, Co Meath. This place has a dark and mysterious history, with the tomb of a jealous man and woman standing as a haunting reminder of the past. Legend has it that the couple were so filled with jealousy and anger that they were buried in a similar tomb as his first wife!
But that's not the only strange thing about this place. You'll discover, as we make our way through the graveyard, that the tomb is covered in pins and needles. Not just any pins and needles - these are said to possess magical healing powers, especially for warts. It's a bizarre and intriguing sight, one that has attracted visitors from far and wide.
Join us as we delve into the history and mystery of this ancient graveyard, exploring the legends and folklore that make it such a captivating place. Whether you believe in the power of these pins and needles or not, one thing is for sure: this is a story you won't soon forget.

Fascinating! Love the folklore that goes with so many of the very old tombs. Thank you for taking us there.
Glad you enjoyed it, Ireland has so many of these stories, I love them, we call the wives tales here
Thank you Sue for sharing with us these beautiful cemeteries ❤
You are so welcome Lauren 🙏
Yes I couldn't agree more, thank you Sue. These cemeteries are absolutely gorgeous xx Teresa❤🇦🇺
Hi Sue and G V. That Sheridan family crest is a yellow background with a green lion and 3 shamrocks one below the lion and one each at the two top corners of the crest. And you may find this of interest since you see the deer or stag above the crest on the tombstone.... The Latin on the family crest is " Cervus Lacessitus Leo" or translated " A Deer caught by Leo" . I am trying to read the text under the coat of arms on the tombstone but it is hard to read. If i can decipher it i will. It looks like something about " Unhurried Foot **** Next" is what I think I can translate from it. Cheers!
Wow, what great information yes very hard to read but thanks so much for taking the time to let me know, I'll pin your comment 😀
RIP to all.🙏
Those old ruins, I just can't keep my mouth closed. It's just wondrous to see this. Such a beautiful sky.

🥰
Fascinating story about the jealous man and wife. It's very interesting. ❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful cemetary Sue. By the way, my friend is back from her trip to Ireland. She said it was absolutely beautiful. She also went to Scotland as well. Something about Lockness. Her daughter,s cat,s name is Nessy! Lol. I guess after the Lockness monster.😂 Her son and daughter accompanied her on her trip! Loved the end with the tomb of the jealous man and woman. Spectacular.
Thanks Karen, it's always lovely to hear that people loved Ireland on their visit
The artwork on those monuments is unbelievable. Thank you both for sharing!
You're very welcome 🙏
Those deeply carved headstones were magnificent! Thank you for this video. Brilliant! ❤❤❤❤

Aussie Pete here and once again thank you for the history of that tomb and the old ruins was so old it's amazing and the detail of the head stones... keep safe
Thanks so much ❤️
@@SerenitySueGraveyards hope i don't bother you too much i have insomnia and i enjoy your videos so much I'll look for them... thanks for the reply
Great story and such a beautiful place!
Thanks so much ❤️
The different carvings are amazing, especially for being put in stone. The tools we ave now, make it easy to do, but back in the 1800’s , they had to make all the tools by hand. Quite the artistry. Very clever. Ty for this tour. Tc and stay safe.
Couldn't agree more! I'm always amazed at the detail by hand, plus they last so well, I've seen newer graves that are hard to read in a shorter time
i wish that some of he gravestones could be preserved because they are absolutely precious works of art!
Me too, sometimes I feel like I'm in a museum full of art. These definitely should be preserved
Such beautiful stones 😊 can't believe they're in such good condition*I have great interest in 1500's-1900's*Thank you for sharing 😊
Glad you enjoyed Elizabeth
Grim reaper is the angel(messanger) of death, and the hour glass is full of sand at the bottom...time is over for these souls.
It was a very detailed stone William
Thank you both i enjoyed this, im catching up with vlogs as iv missed a few take care both
Glad you enjoyed it Hazel, I hope things are better for you ❤️❤️
Beautiful sky & ruins 😊
The sky was breathtaking, I couldn't stop watching it and thinking, God paints great pictures
Wow you found some amazing Graves’s there guys 🍀
They were amazing Bailey, I'm always so excited to see these old stones carved by hand
That tree trunk with flowers in is a great idea
Yes a great idea
That's a great video guys, thanks, loved it
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for making these videos. I live in the USA but LOVE Ireland and cannot wait to visit someday
You are so welcome!
It really is a shame that these beautiful cemetery and headstones are falling apart. Thank you for posting your videos of the beautiful country side.
Thanks Tammy ❤️
@@SerenitySueGraveyards you are very welcome
That stone was beautiful. Just as beautiful as the one you found recently. They really should be protected.
I agree, hate seeing these beautiful stones forgotten, the amount of time and skill they put into these should be protected
So beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
Great video thanks again love everyone of your s
Our pleasure!
What a wonderful graveyard you found Sue! This is absolutely extraordinary never mind all that lichen! The headstones are incredible from the carving representations to what is inscribed on them! Simply fantastic! This one really pumped me up! I loved it! Thanks so much to both you and GV. Love & Hugs, Janet
Thanks so much Janet, I went to see the tomb but absolutely loved those beautiful carved stones, felt magical there, I was blown away

Oh Sonny if you get here, definitely check it out and look for the walk to Trim Castle, really worth it
Thanks Sue for another great video and the cemetery was wonderful. I love some of the beautiful Effigies that are on the headstones and the Crypt. Thank you so much for sharing have a great day.
Glad you enjoyed it Joel, it was absolutely beautiful
Ah yes, the Angel of Death with the hourglass reminding us all of our mortality here on Earth. Beautiful. Thanks for showing this gorgeous headstone. A true reminder.
Don't worry about the pronunciation, we all have different pronunciations for a variety of words depending on the country we are from but I think we all know what you are referring to. This was very cool, love the tours of these graveyards. The flowers in the tree stump were amazing. The golden headstone from the sun, just beautiful. Take care guys, thanks again.
Edit: The tomb of the Jealous Man & Woman was so very interesting. I would have never guessed warts. Hopefully no warts befall you guys. Lol. Thought for sure it would have been for protection.
Thanks so much, I'm always getting pulled on my pronunciation, some as you say is down to country, some from my accent, thanks so much ❤️
@@SerenitySueGraveyards I understand the pronunciation thing completely. G-mother from Scotland, everyone else, Ireland. My dad passed his accent down to us with different pronunciations. I used to get skewered in primary school. I used to make G-mother mad to hear her yell at me in Gaelic, I loved to listen to her. I was a torch as a kid. 🙃
Beautiful old historic area! Loved seeing those old gravestones with the artwork. Very unusual tomb and story.
Thanks Don, like an outdoor museum
Very interesting sue. As usual great. I’m enjoying this one. GV must have loved all the angels.
Glad you enjoyed it Aunty, ahh those angel carvings were so pretty
Can't wait to find out about the safety pins.
Video going up as premiere Friday night
I have got to say I love your accent thank you for a great video watching from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada
Hello, we've got a good few people here from Canada, it's just great ❤️
Enjoyed the tour!
Thanks so much ❤️
Amazing graveyard
It’s a really nicely kept old Churchyard Sue.Some fabulous old stones a real testament to the workmanship of the old stonemasons. These new ones that have very light engraving on will not last as long sadly as they are cut by machines now.The old Effigies have worn well considering they are exposed to the elements and have been for many years.I love finding the really old ones don’t you?.. thanks for taking us along .In it’s day this place must have looked spectacular ,then Henry the 8th came along.Such sacrilege…Love n Light 🥰
Thanks Christine, yes the older the better for me, the craftsmanship is just amazing all by hand
Most irelands grandest art is in it's cemeteries 💚💚💚🍀🍀🍀
I completely agree
Wow such an unusual tale! ❤
Hope you enjoyed it!
ThankYou for allowing me to tag along
These places are so peaceful as well as beautiful !
Glad you enjoyed
Thank you both for a very interesting tour. Lovley old graves. Love from Africa. 😊💝🐘
Thanks Yvonne ❤️
sorry I'm late watching this , it's been an extremely busy weekend here this was a fascinating video , the tombstones with that Angel of death and the Sheridan crest was remarkable never seen anything like them ❤another wonderful video Sue
Thanks so much Julia ❤️
Wow what a tour! So many beautiful old stones and carvings. That's quite a story about that jealous couple and the pins 😆. Thank you! We appreciate all you do for us.
Glad you enjoyed it toms ❤️
Hi Sue And GV❤️🙏
Hi Bonnie
I think that is the oldest tomb you have shown us. Amazing that much carving is still visible!
It's very old for sure but I've found older in Wales, effigies in a church, beautiful
A big hello from Poteet Texas
Hi Gary
Sue, such a beautiful place with the ruins and the old graves. I was really taken with the tomb with all the carvings and the angel of death. I wish I what it said on the bottom part of that stone.
Thanks for another wonderful adventure.
PS I don't care how you pronounce words. We can all understand you the same.
Thanks a million Ben, I really appreciate it ❤️
Thank you Sue very interesting tour it's a shame how that lichen overtakes the gravestones, some works of art on some of those stones too. 💜💜
Thanks Jules, yes unfortunately this happens a lot here, such beautiful craftsmanship
Beautifully carved stones of so many shown today.
Absolutely amazing craftsmanship
Soo interesting the tomb is amazing. Lov ur adventures 😊
Thank you 😀
GV was right, some of those stones need to be preserved. Especially the tomb! I can't believe it hasn't been saved already. It has a quirky little legend attached to it! Loved all the Celtic Crosses and 1700s stones you found. The last time I tried scrambling in between trees I ended up with an Orb Weaver spider and her web stuck in my hair, so I don't do that anymore. Lol. Thank you for this breathtaking walkabout Sue, you had me ooing and aahing along with you. Deb of Oz XXX
Ahh thanks so much Deb, yes I agree, this Tomb should have a glass around it or something to preserve it before it's too late, it was definitely a very beautiful place and I got so excited
Danke!
Danke!! wow, that's amazing, thanks so much, really appreciate it 😀 ❤️
Amazing place! The carvings were awesome. Almost looked like they were done by a machine. Sad the tomb was so weather worn😞
Yes, I think it should be behind glass to preserve it, soon it will be all gone
I can't imagine living in a place overflowing with history. Just breathtaking!
Yes, I feel very blessed here
The old tomb should be covered to protect it X another great vid thanks
Yes for sure, its already so worn
What a find on these headstones. So much history. Thank you for sharing! By the way, could you imagine someone walking by while you were on the ground looking at the headstone, 😮😂
There were people passing by as its a beautiful walk along the graveyard to Trim Castle, I think I was so excited at that point I didn't care 😄
Looking forward to it Sue…
Thanks Eddie
I've heard of this story before but have never been here. There are amazing carvings on the headstones.
The most amazing stones I find are the older ones, these ones certainly didn't fail me
Another fantastic video that was a bit of luck knowing someone’s brother who was buried there 👍😍
Thank you so much 💓
Thank you for righting that stone! Maybe someone will for sure fix it back up again.
I hope so!
What a small world it is
So many times we've found this, small world for sure
In the time it took for those pins to rust, their worts would have gone away by themselves, lol
Haha true, or gone and come back again lol
Great video I hope you and gv don't get warts😊
I hope so too 😅 it was a thought after I touched the tomb 😅😅
Hi Sue 😊 thank you for filming these beautiful videos. I’m amazed at how much detail these stones still have after so many years!!! Here in England, when we see IHS on a stone it means ‘The Holy Spirit’ generally refers to a Protestant grave. Could it mean the same over there? Anyway, thank you again for sharing these with us xx
IHS here usually means Jesus here
Yay S.S. & I.E.'s love it...
Thanks William
Sounds interesting 🧐
Wow, I’ve never heard of the wives’ tale of rubbing a wart with the pin… funny the things people came up with & believed years ago! 😊
I know, there's so many wives tales here, (don't cross your legs when pregnant as the cord will wrap around the babies neck) so many but that one was told to me personally, I just laughed lol
An old wives tale I heard is, if you put a knife under the birthing bed, it will cut the pain in half.
Wishful thinking from a time before real pain meds.
Awsome video.
@amykillmeyer4630 haven't heard that one before, there's so many, I think it's brilliant
Thank you. A nice walk and show. Are the tall bushes trimmed to look so nice a neat.
Was thinking the same, good too see someone still cares about such an ancient cemetery.
I'd imagine they are, it's so beautiful there
Yes, for sure, so many are overgrown and forgotten, it's sad
You say the name and they are not forgotten x
I believe so too
You are so lucky to be able to visit these ruins, jealous from the U.S. 😊
What are the white spots all over the ruins when you first walk in? Thank you for sharing these stores, ❤❤❤
Hi, yes we're blessed, it's lichen, like a fungus, it's everywhere here, it can be yellow, orange and white
@@SerenitySueGraveyards lol, I thought It must be some kind of alge but it kind of looked like white paint, 😄
Thanks❤️🪦
@zoey8426 yes, it often covers the stones and looks like someone painted it
Amazing content Sue . The high crosses you refer to are known as the Celtic Crosses and of course The Celts from the North Western Germanic Tribes they invaded Wales , Scotland and Ireland . there were more celts in Ireland and to this day there are 120 million of Celtic descent in North South America , Australasi , Africa and Europe , The largest single group from Ireland , followed by Scotland, Wales, and Cornwall .
Hence the reason you see more of the Celtic crosses in Ireland They were In England also but not so many .
They inhabited Britain known as Pritani around the Iron age and after the Bronze Age who were known as the Beaker People however they did not last long as the Celtic People .
Then came the Romans and we all of us know that the Greatest CELTIC WARRIORS was QUEEN BOUDICA
Hope this has been of some use to you two intrepid Brave Journeyman .
Found your Program last week and My sister and I Visiting my fathers and other Relatives graves In Shropshire England . Buried mainly in the new part from the 1800 hundreds onwards . although there are older Tombs they are the other side many pre Victorian It is a huge Cemetery and magnificently kept especially the more modern graves .
However when my sister and I used to meet up we would bring shears . cleaning material to clean some graves up so you could see the writing and cut down Ivy and weeds etc we used to do three of four graves . depending on the amount of work .
Noone ever saw us do it but it seemed to me so sad that graves were left to rot and overgrow .
Keep up the Good work both love it , all you do .
Thank you, I've been to so many graveyards where we have hundreds of celtic crosses, especially from the early 1900s, unfortunately they are not as popular now. I've found the largest highcross to the smallest high cross in Ireland too
Lucas Dillon and Lady Jane Bathe are my 11th great grandparents. I know, how do I know....there is DNA that connects me back to Savage from 1607. I am 43% Irish. The Dillon side is not proven, so with that. The Plunkett grave stone you showed could be a relative of mine in some way. Lucas and Jane had a daughter Anne, who married Richard Plunkett. :) It's very cool to see on a UA-cam video. You now have a new subscriber. Thank you!! I have to tell you that his descendants in America, some were known as fortune tellers, and so on. I, however, did not receive any of these traits! 🤣What a beautiful place, I can't wait to visit!
Thank you very much 💓
The camera your using is fantastic!😅
Thanks ❤️
I grew up Catholic. I still follow most of the teachings, but I was wondering if you believe that Mary Magdalene was a disciple. And please other people don’t bash me because I asked that question.
Hi, no one will bash you here I promise that, I too was raised as a Catholic and even though I don't go to mass, I still visit churches to pray or light a candle, in my own time. Also for their beauty and history. As far as Mary Magdalene, I can only say what I was thought, which was she was a follower of Jesus, a disciple, she witnessed his death and so many times on older headstones she depicted with the virgin Mary beneath our Lord. So yes I believe ❤️
This is so amazing. BTW, as you know, my last name is rare in Ireland, but we definitely came out of Dublin. At one time, I even had my great grandfather's address from Dublin. You have a friend with my sir name and I watched the Documentary on the men who did the hunger strike in the English prison, he is also a Walker I wonder if we are related I also found a relative in Dublin a Sister Mary Walker but I don't have contact with her, she came to New York just to meet me in the 90's.
Wow, I'll have to ask my mam, where my aunty Anna walkers husband came from
@@SerenitySueGraveyards wow, we could be related! See if she knows if he was related to Mayor James J Walker of New York City from 1926-1932. That's how we connected Sister Walker and myself. My great grandfather was also James Walker from Dublin, the IRB got him to New York on a ship, he was wanted by the English government.
I could not help but think .....that by the time the pins had rusted that any warts might have naturally cleared up by themselves or with medication.......
I thought the exact same
The ruins are in pretty good condition, considering their age.
The same for the monuments in the graveyard. Very interesting story about the pins and the tomb.
It looks like someone is trying to keep the grounds in somewhat good condition. Thank you very much Sue, and GV, for a very fine walking tour. This was a great video. Are you planning on visiting a cemetery or graveyard for Halloween 🎃? Take care. 😊
Glad you enjoyed Michael, yes definitely one coming for Halloween
you made me laugh with your comment about the warts😂...thank you.
p.s. I love your channel❤
Lol I don't want to catch one 🙃
I completely understand 😂..
Happy new year to you and your friend "GV" ❤
Hey Sue and GV wow my mind is blown by the age of these graves 1700s then you mentioned about this 1592 tomb..I’m in Australia we were discovered by the English in 1788. Love your channel so much , just a quick question what do the letters at the very top of some of the headstones mean? ❤ thanks so much ❤️🌳🪦🌳
IHS is that what you mean, this is Latan for Jesus
