Crypt Vandalised | The Most Amazing Coffin Lid

- Today we visit the historic St. John's Cathedral, Cashel.
We met with alovely gentleman named Michael, who told us some information of the area, including the vandalism done to 2 crypts.
The historic cathedral on the Rock of Cashel had been seized by the English Crown from the Catholic Church in the 1530s and was then handed over to the newly established Church of Ireland. This mediaeval cathedral was closed for worship by the Church of Ireland in 1721. Meanwhile, the old parish church of St John was removed and the present Georgian cathedral completed in 1784. Its famous Samuel Green organ was built in 1786, while Charles Agar was Archbishop, and the Chapter House was built to hold the Bolton Library.
Miler Magrath (also Miler McGrath or Myler McGrath, Irish: Maolmhuire Mag Raith; c. 1523 - 14 November 1622), was an Irish priest and archbishop born in County Fermanagh, Ireland. He came from a family of hereditary historians to the O'Brien clan. He entered the Franciscan Order and was ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood. The Vatican later appointed him the Bishop of Down and Connor in Ireland, but he converted to the Anglican Church of England (since the passage of the 'Irish Church Act 1869' the Anglican Church in Ireland is known as the 'Church of Ireland') and became the Protestant Archbishop of Cashel. Magrath is viewed with contempt by both Protestant and Catholic historians, owing to his ambiguous and corrupt activities during the Reformation. He also served as a member of the Parliament of Ireland.
The Hackett Effigies.
They are thought to be coffin lid effigies of Sir William Hackett and his family from the 13th century and originally at the site of the nearby Franciscan Friary.
They were moved and housed within part of the original town walls of Cashel.

Some kids are so disrespectful now days😡. They aren’t taught respect by their parents because they are given everything. They don’t know what it’s like to have nothing or how to work today and don’t want to know. Thanks for the video Sue. 🇨🇦👏💕
So true
😭
I can't speak to where you are from but when I was young The other parents would slap you around for being a idiot and no The Parents in the States are arrested if their child shoots at someone! Not the Child the bloody parents! If you spank them of you are in so much trouble of the law finds out! People are not right these days! Protect wrongful and punish correction!
Two well done grave visitors. Amazing when life was at the best 60 years, someone living to 102 in 1805.
Pretty awesome, Priscilla must have been a strong woman back then, great age
People are so disrespectful, I'm truly sorry for this to happen in a beautiful church graveyard , we have the same thing happen here in the USA , my state Tennessee, anyway these people that do these horrible acts will suffer consequences someday in this world or the world of the evil death. Thank you Ms. Sue for your great work and your friend there with you. God bless
Thanks Donna ❤️
This was a really well kept cemetery with lots of unique stones and history. We both loved tipperary
We sure did
At an early age, I was taught respect for the dead and something that stays with me all my life. My wish is for more volunteers to help in preserving old or neglected cemeteries. Thanks for what you do and for this video!
Thanks Sonny, I was taught the same, respect the dead and your elders, whisper when in a church, I still have those values
Ann Theodora Chute (Stanhope) wife of the 11th Earl of Harrington. Such great history there. Such a shame that people desecrate the graves and tombs of others 😢 just shows that they don't have any concern for the dead nor the living when they can do things like that sadly. Another great explore Sue ❤
Thanks Tracy, well said
What an amazing place. Aside from the heartbreaking vandalism, there was one gem after another. Thank you!
Thanks toms, it sure was beautiful besides the disrespect 😤
I feel sick Sue 😫 I have no words,it's a stunning graveyard its just heartbreaking seeing those skulls lying in that mess 😢
I don't mind natural decay but something like this makes me so mad too

Great walk and chat!!! This place had it all so much to see. Tons of history along the way. Thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it
Those coffin tops were beautiful.
They really were
Hi Sue, the rock wall with the effigies is just stunning and I appreciate how well the grounds are maintained at this cemetery. Such a shame about the one crypt, such an unfortunate mess😢! Great video Sue❤
Many thanks Becky
People can be so cruel sometimes.
That's true, sad really
I'll take a shot at it. A skeleton holding an open can of Guinness?💩 Looking forward to the reviel.
Close but nope 🫣
Thank you Sue for bring the problem of vandalism in cemeteries to everyone's attention. It's really sad to see the disrespect to graves and monuments.
Thanks Shela, it's so sad
What on earth is wrong with people today ?, am I right in calling them people I wonder ?. Such heart-breaking desecration, words fail me. Thank you for a lovely video despite the damage. Best wishes to you both my friends xx
Thanks Barry, it's just the lowest of the low
Hi Sue such ashame they did that!
Sue, thank you so much for giving a tour of the beautiful grounds and church today really enjoyed it. And looking forward to the next video on that Catholic bishop that you showed of a carving. Thank you so much and have a great day.
Hi Joel that videos it up, just before this one, it's the Rock of Cashel, thanks so much
This was a great find and well worth the wait! So interesting! Thanks Sue!
Glad you enjoyed it Liz ❤️
A wonderful video, such a beautiful place to visit. The tomb that was vandalize was just heart breaking. The sun shining on everything just gave a beautiful glow to everything. Again another well done video. Thank you again for the history leason. Just beautiful.🌈🌈😁
Glad you enjoyed it Olga, thanks so much ❤️
This is absolutely a wonderful video. There are just too many people who don’t care or respect those who gave all they had to have a proper place to rest when they die. It’s sad when you see children’s names mentioned by fact they never got the chance to enjoy life. The place was very beautiful and well preserved. Wow, 102 , a century! Ty and stay safe always.
Thanks Lorrie ❤️ 😊
Just devastating how people could do something like that
Sick people in this world
Horrible yea
Good thing God can re-articulate all the bones at the resurrection.
Thankfully
What makes people to do stuff like that
Those lids are amazing.
They sure were
Nothing breaks my heart more in vandalism than ppl going into these cemeteries and destroying them. It is so sad.
Yes, it's terrible and most don't get caught doing so
Great History Great coffin lids and a sculpture made from a tree..This had everything 👏 your the best Sue 😘
Thank you so much!
This a long wait for a premier.
I only had one Friday night William, notifications are not going out so I'm hoping more will see it
Its just fine,we'll get'er out I'll share it if every one shared it would help you out👍😃
It would William, thank you sir 🙏
I love how excited you got when you saw the skull & crossbones… I wish more people respected the graveyards & didn’t feel the need to destroy them.
Hi Anita, I always get excited, I just adore what I do, I love everything about it, skulls and crossbones are just amazing to see. Yes so very sad to see desecration
Hi sue when is your next live chat happy Sunday to you and the beautiful family ❤
Maybe next week x
Thank you for a wonderful video!!
Thank you too!
What a beautiful place Sue I always wonder what kind of bringing up these kids are having it's disgusting what they did. Very interesting content guys thank you 💜💜
Thanks Jules, it's terrible to see and we were there to see the mess before the local man cleared it up, what are the guards at to let this happen. Sad now
might have missed the premire but it wont stop me watching it as for facebook hopefully ill be putting up yet more grave yard photos this time from the historic city of york when i found a hidden gem church called St Olives
Thanks Harry
What is wrong with people!! Have they lost any and all respect for others remains!!!!
No respect, just terrible
@@SerenitySueGraveyards I don't understand what has happened to people values when they are ready, and more than willing to vandalize someones resting place
Looks interesting 🧐. We have to wait 7 days😱😂💕
😁 afraid so but GV has a premiere tonight so hopefully see you there x
Looks interesting! Doesn't look like you will be able to keep the 'lid" on for this one Sue! 😄
😅😅
Lovely, thank you & GV, I’d hoped to get out this weekend to search for a cemetery I ran across years ago but it rained too much here in Southwest Montana
Brilliant Sheila 👏
What an incredible church and graveyard! The headstones were very unique, touching and some sad. 32 babies! I wonder what the story was behind that! Just a gorgeous place all around. A perfect video and walk around! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks Janet, I loved this place, especially the coffin lids
Great video, Sue! I can certainly commiserate with you on reading some stones… I have found that often the ones I can’t make out live on camera become completely legible when I’m viewing my video in editing. Keep doing what you’re doing! I love watching over here in Virginia in the US.
Thanks a million, that's it exactly, afterwards I'm looking thinking it's obvious in edit lol
Thanks Sue & C….GV 😅 Stay Cool! It’s very 🥵 here, as well.
Great history!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks, you too!
Thank you Mike❤️ Such a pretty place why they would destroy that vault is crazy. It makes me mad🤬 Happy Fathers Day ❤️ It was 103 but feel temp was 115. Going to be the same for at least a week. Hey from Texas❤️
Oh Brenda, it's been so warm here for Ireland, I definitely couldn't cope in your temperatures
Beautiful weather, and cemetery..thank you Sue ❤️
You are so welcome
Shocking disrespect. What on earth makes people do this. It makes me very sad to see this. I love cemeteries and churches they are so peaceful and very interesting. Great places of social history.
Me too Julie, I'd rather walk in a cemetery and find history than read in a book, something very exciting about it all. Beautiful and peaceful
Hello Sue and G V. The "Harrington " clan was predominantly from southwest Ireland in the counties of Kerry and Cork with another offshoot residing in the county of Mayo. If that helps you out???
Cheers John ❤️👏
Thank you for another great video
Thanks for watching!
It is rare to find a person to be so loyal all his life. Beautiful manicured cemetary. Thanx for a beautiful walk and story.😊😊😊❤😊❤
You're welcome ❤️
Wonderful video. Also thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sue and your friend Great Video thanks for taking the time to make it
Our pleasure!

Hi from Poteet Texas
Hi Gary ❤️
I like the you can a sequence
I like your opening sequence
It should say no
Sue you look fantastic in that beautiful colour!
Oh thank you!
Beautiful church
Another beautiful place to sleep! We are hoping to dodge tornadoes and storms later. God Bless and Thank you for sharing!🇺🇸🇺🇸
Oh no I hope you're all safe
Thanks guys. Very interesting. Love from Africa 😊❤
Thanks Yvonne
I just don't get the mindset of vandals! Other than the destruction, this was awesome. Some gorgeous stones, bit of history, a church with brightly coloured doors and well kept grounds. GV being spooked by the bust in the window was funny. It's hard to believe the carving of Miler Miller (1523-1622) was made with a chainsaw! That was his effigy at Cashel. Thanks for a lovely walkabout Sue. Stay cool!!! Deb of Oz. XXX
Thanks Deb, I don't understand, what do they get from vandalism and desecration of graves it makes me mad, other than that it is a beautiful place
Absolutely disgusting what is wrong with people, why don't parents take more control of there kids, feel so sad at this 🙏🌹😪
Couldn't agree more
Another Historical Overview of these ancient burial places ThankYou for sharing these grounds . Be safe Godbless
Glad you enjoyed
Hey Sue. It's me again. I can't remember where you said that Michael Dolin was from. We here in the U.S have a Michael Dolin he is in New York City. He is the Archbishop up their. Are those skull and cross bones for a pirate?Hey Sue. People come to my house and I say to them hey did you see my dead guy in the yard..LOL and they WHAT. I go yeah he is right there. His name is George Collier. Some people still can't believe I bought a house with a dead guy on it. Take care Sue great video
Hey James, Michael Dolin was from Dublin and a great Irish actor, he's buried in Mount Jerome in an unmarked grave, unfortunately we tried to get him a headstone but were not allowed unless we found family. Skull and cross bones mean our own mortality or momento mori
Good morning from Australia 🇦🇺 love your GV videos
Glad you like them!
Hello Sue from Buckeye, Arizona U.S.A. I am wondering what is the oldest grave you have ever found? Thank you for all you do.
Good question! The oldest headstone was 1622 but I have found a knights grave too 1587 and a King's grave from 1100s but I've found effigies dating from AD 632
Hey There, from Amity, Oregon USA. That would really really upset me too. Thank goodness for Michael and his dedication to this place. A good soul. Hard to find these days. Thank you for another beautiful tour. ❤
T C, Micheal was such a lovely gentleman, very dedicated to his church. It's terrible to see destruction like this
I don’t know how or why anyone would vandalize gives/tombs etc. like that😢
Me either, I was lost for words
What an interesting place full of history Sue and by the way a great hello from Australia keep up the great video's shame that grave with the pallet put there as a door being destroyed plain vandalism Sue bye to you and your friend.
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful cemetery! Thank you so much for the awesome video. I do appreciate it. 💐👸🏻🌻😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Beau Travail comme d'habitude🔬🍀🌌🎬
Merci Alex
I remember as a kids, we would walk around a local cemetery. There were a lot of mausoleums, and we found them fascinating. But it never would have occurred to us to break into any of them, and desecrate the bodies. I can’t understand what they’re thinking. What prompts people to do this
I've no idea, I don't get it, having a curiosity is one thing, even peeping in is OK but to break in and disturb the dead is just nasty
Nice video again Sue! A lot of great monuments there. 👍🙏
Yes, thank you
It is remarkable they have stood as long as they have.
It is Gail
Great👍👍👍
Thank you 👍
When I was growing up we had a cemetery just up the road from our house, and all 6 of us kids would go there and play hide and seek, we lived in the country, maybe not the best thing to do in a cemetery, but not once, never did we think to damage or disrespect people's graves or headstones. We knew that if we had done anything like that our butts would be too sore to sit down for a week, and would not be leaving the house unless it was for school, for many a day, and would be busy doing chores, now it seems that people are not taught to have any respect for anyone, either living or dead. As for the lady who lived to be in her hundreds, I had a great grandmother surnamed Carpenter, who is buried here in the U.S., in Pennsylvania, who was born in 1871 and died in 1971, she didn't drink, smoke, and she would have washed out anyones mouth who had the gall to swear around her, many stories I have been told about her, very strict, but maybe such a clean way of living was what kept her alive for so long. My female ancestors seem to live very long lives, they had hard lives, and did what any woman had to do to make a home for their families, and didn't put up with bad things. I apparently have adopted that same way of life, I don't take no bull, and don't let people push me around, and have been called stubborn as a mule, to which I say, it's all in the genes. I just hope that those who destroy people final resting places get haunted, and become educated that what goes around comes right back around to them. Love the history, and the travels to the places where the possibility of some of my ancestors may be buried, keep it up, and stay safe, and enjoy.
Thanks K, I was brought up in a strict but loving family, I learned how to be respectful learned to be quiet in a church, respect your elders and get off a footpath to let the people pass, etc, it's stayed with me. I'm so grateful I was thought these things. If my child did that, well they wouldn't go outside the door again.
Love the tombstones in the wall❤
My goodness Sue! Those are some huge sunglasses!!! 😀 You don't need sunscreen on your face with those things! Love your videos -- and your respect for the places that you visit!
Haha Aengus, they are huge but great for hay-fever season
Very very sad what them vandals done to them tombs...if ever found should be made to do community work there to repair what they did... and the library wow...skull and Crossbones amazing... Aussie Pete again keep safe
Well said
Ordered a t-shirt and can't wait for it to arrive 😊
Ahh Brian, that's so sweet, I keep looking at your surname "walker" and I'm now in memory mode of my great Aunt Anna Walker
@SerenitySueGraveyards oh yes, Walker is Scottish, but we lived in Ireland for a few hundred years. When I lived in NY, my neighbors went to Ireland, and they came home with a Catholic Nun Sister Mary Walker. It turns out we were related. I was also related to Mayor James J Walker mayor of NYC 1926-1932. I'm probably related to your friend.
Sooo sad what a mess ...people who desicrate graves are evil .people need to rest in peace forever
Absolutely agree
Thanks for the wonderful vlogs
Our pleasure!
They all need Jail time whoever does that disgusting crime 😡
Absolutely agree or get them back out there and make them clean all the graveyards around that are over grown, how could they do this, Where's their respect gone
@@SerenitySueGraveyards they’re gutless cowards
WHAT!!no respect for the dead at all?what a shame.what has things come too!what is wrong with those people .?MONSTERS!!Did the law deal with them?😢😢
I don't think they were but not 100% sure on that
Love the content thank you.
Glad you enjoy it!
This video gets better as it goes on👏👏👏
Thanks
I love how you get excited about the skull on the grave, just like myself !
Every thing excites me when I step into a cemetery, so much beauty 😍
love your videos
Thanks ❤️
Shame on the vandals! But those coffin lids were positively inspiring, its amazing they're in as good of shape as they are in. Good job!
It's terrible what people do to the dead
@SerenitySueGraveyards the algorithm put your channel in my feed, I've been researching my family tree and I guess because I searched for things in Ireland, but I watched a video and now I'm hooked. Thank you.
@RealMelodyBlue thank you so much 💓
The rock wall was beautiful and so were the coffin lids.
Thanks
Very interesting and beautiful place thank you both
Always welcome Hazel ❤️
This might explain why folks have so many warts, as the pins on the other video revealed of the Jealous Couple! Let's hope they get Warts for being so disrespectful!
Yes and more, anyone who interferes with the dead!! It's terrible
That vandalism was disgusting! 😠 When I was younger we would go off drinking in the local cemetery. We always
respected the dead and never left any bottles, etc. Beautiful coffin lids and grave stones. I love the old writing on the
grave stones. Cool sculpture of a face!
Thanks Don, yes it's hard to believe people are so disrespectful, the coffin lids were awesome
That is beyond disrespectful and disgusting! I hope karma get these idiots!
Me too Mikey
This is horrible. People are so very bad specialy the young ones. The graveyard is beautiful.😢😢😢❤❤❤
Just terrible behaviour
Nice job

The crow was a nice touch.

Shame on those that do these disrespectful things😤😡
Yes, I can never understand anyone doing this to the dead, they are the worst kind o person
Very sad that young 1s would do such a thing no respect anymore.Great video x
