Crypt Vandalised | The Most Amazing Coffin Lid

  • Today we visit the historic St. John's Cathedral, Cashel.
We met with alovely gentleman named Michael, who told us some information of the area, including the vandalism done to 2 crypts.
The historic cathedral on the Rock of Cashel had been seized by the English Crown from the Catholic Church in the 1530s and was then handed over to the newly established Church of Ireland. This mediaeval cathedral was closed for worship by the Church of Ireland in 1721. Meanwhile, the old parish church of St John was removed and the present Georgian cathedral completed in 1784. Its famous Samuel Green organ was built in 1786, while Charles Agar was Archbishop, and the Chapter House was built to hold the Bolton Library.
Miler Magrath (also Miler McGrath or Myler McGrath, Irish: Maolmhuire Mag Raith; c. 1523 - 14 November 1622), was an Irish priest and archbishop born in County Fermanagh, Ireland. He came from a family of hereditary historians to the O'Brien clan. He entered the Franciscan Order and was ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood. The Vatican later appointed him the Bishop of Down and Connor in Ireland, but he converted to the Anglican Church of England (since the passage of the 'Irish Church Act 1869' the Anglican Church in Ireland is known as the 'Church of Ireland') and became the Protestant Archbishop of Cashel. Magrath is viewed with contempt by both Protestant and Catholic historians, owing to his ambiguous and corrupt activities during the Reformation. He also served as a member of the Parliament of Ireland.
    The Hackett Effigies.
They are thought to be coffin lid effigies of Sir William Hackett and his family from the 13th century and originally at the site of the nearby Franciscan Friary.
They were moved and housed within part of the original town walls of Cashel.

Some kids are so disrespectful now days😡. They aren’t taught respect by their parents because they are given everything. They don’t know what it’s like to have nothing or how to work today and don’t want to know. Thanks for the video Sue. 🇨🇦👏💕

Not the Child the bloody parents! If you spank them of you are in so much trouble of the law finds out! People are not right these days! Protect wrongful and punish correction!

People are so disrespectful, I'm truly sorry for this to happen in a beautiful church graveyard , we have the same thing happen here in the USA , my state Tennessee, anyway these people that do these horrible acts will suffer consequences someday in this world or the world of the evil death. Thank you Ms. Sue for your great work and your friend there with you. God bless

Ann Theodora Chute (Stanhope) wife of the 11th Earl of Harrington. Such great history there. Such a shame that people desecrate the graves and tombs of others 😢 just shows that they don't have any concern for the dead nor the living when they can do things like that sadly. Another great explore Sue ❤

When I was growing up we had a cemetery just up the road from our house, and all 6 of us kids would go there and play hide and seek, we lived in the country, maybe not the best thing to do in a cemetery, but not once, never did we think to damage or disrespect people's graves or headstones. We knew that if we had done anything like that our butts would be too sore to sit down for a week, and would not be leaving the house unless it was for school, for many a day, and would be busy doing chores, now it seems that people are not taught to have any respect for anyone, either living or dead. As for the lady who lived to be in her hundreds, I had a great grandmother surnamed Carpenter, who is buried here in the U.S., in Pennsylvania, who was born in 1871 and died in 1971, she didn't drink, smoke, and she would have washed out anyones mouth who had the gall to swear around her, many stories I have been told about her, very strict, but maybe such a clean way of living was what kept her alive for so long. My female ancestors seem to live very long lives, they had hard lives, and did what any woman had to do to make a home for their families, and didn't put up with bad things. I apparently have adopted that same way of life, I don't take no bull, and don't let people push me around, and have been called stubborn as a mule, to which I say, it's all in the genes. I just hope that those who destroy people final resting places get haunted, and become educated that what goes around comes right back around to them. Love the history, and the travels to the places where the possibility of some of my ancestors may be buried, keep it up, and stay safe, and enjoy.

Thanks K, I was brought up in a strict but loving family, I learned how to be respectful learned to be quiet in a church, respect your elders and get off a footpath to let the people pass, etc, it's stayed with me. @SerenitySueGraveyards the algorithm put your channel in my feed, I've been researching my family tree and I guess because I searched for things in Ireland, but I watched a video and now I'm hooked. Thank you.

This might explain why folks have so many warts, as the pins on the other video revealed of the Jealous Couple! Let's hope they get Warts for being so disrespectful!

That vandalism was disgusting! 😠 When I was younger we would go off drinking in the local cemetery. We always
respected the dead and never left any bottles, etc. Beautiful coffin lids and grave stones. I love the old writing on the
grave stones. Cool sculpture of a face!
