    "...for so long, a bitter enemy of America." Not true. The US and Vietnam restored diplomatic relations in 1995.

      And we were friends even before the Vietnam War, but France dragged us into the war because we owed them. We should’ve told the French to go fuck themselves. I mean, I love the French, but I love the Vietnamese. I love any culture that provides so much to humanity.

    • @ellisdon100

      France didn't drag us into the war. After over a decade of fighting, the French and Vietnamese signed a peace treaty, which resulted in the creation of the DMZ and separate North and South Vietnam. Elections were promised w/in two years of this decision, allowing the people to decide their leader under unification. The US feared that Ho Chi Minh would win by a landslide, so JFK sent 'military advisors' to South Vietnam to bolster the Saigon government. And thus commenced our slippery slope into a full-blown military conflict w/ the North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong. All of this b/c my American ancestors hated the communists and felt that the collapse of Vietnam under 'The Reds' would trigger a domino effect across all Indochina, hence the Cambodian and Laotian Civil Wars.
      The moral of the story is that the US Foreign Policy was as shit then as it is now.

      Viet Minh was kinda allied with US during WW 2, they help fighting Japanese and rescue downed US pilots. And Ho Chi Minh was also trained by OSS.. Whole thing could have been different.

    I like how Anthony and Obama aren’t going for the obvious Vietnamese food which is Pho. It tells me that Anthony is communicating there’s more to it and there’s a bigger picture (with food of course). If I were traveling I would try different foods because it’s exclusive to that area and it’s an experience I can personally carry. I think that’s why Anthony always go to the local places people would eat at.

    “Praising the president’s chopstick skills before picking up the $6 tab for the leader of the free world”...
    I swear that sounds like something Bob Dylan would’ve wrote in his early days

    • @changgyong
      @changgyong 3 роки тому

      There might be a slight contradiction in the term "leader of the free world".
      To me sounds a bit like "naked ladies in clothes"... 😏❤️
      Of course it is always good to have friendly international relations, so I don't mean to be ironic or critical about this actual event. Just the expression is kind of interesting...

    I recently went to this restaurant and they have something called the "Obama Combo." It's pretty much the same dishes Obama had when he visited. However, this restaurant is waaay overhyped. You can get better bun cha at other spots in Hanoi.

      Usually, places like this got visited not because of better food, but rather better security detail. If I'm mr Obama, I'd visit Asia again in 2017 for genuine Asian cuisine experience. And Asia is indeed going to be the better place in 2017 anyways, just so you know.

      Not so sure it was a voluntary departure. He died exactly 3 days after Kate Spade was found in NYC hanging by a scarf from a doorknob. Both had knowledge of the unsavory activities of a husband and wife power /presidential couple known to have a high body count around them. The one who died first had intimate knowledge of their disaster capitalism in Haiti where thousands of orphans mysteriously went "missing" and another who had general knowledge of them and was talking about it. He also openly admitted he was being harassed by the goons of this Power Couple. Shortly after, he was dead. His comments can be found in his last Vanity Fair issue that was published posthumously. In fact, just the previous year, several other famous people were found hanging (sometimes by a doorknob, one not.) They were also working on a film about child trafficking called The Silent Children. Their names are Chris Cornell & Chester Bennington. Draw your own conclusions.

    The cost of the Vietnam war are lives, money and the victims are both North and South Vietnamese and all Americans, obviously the soldiers that's involve in the war but also the Americans tax payer's money that could be better spent back to the people but no it's goes towards funding for the war so eventually it's can end up in the pocket of the war profiteers.
