I started making soap during the 2020-2021 school year because I was home-schooling that year and needed a science unit and we made all different kinds of soap.
Ee watching Ellen as it popped up again on my screen. I am now adding different milks to my soap recipe. I bought a steamer but forgot how to do the top of soap so it was great to re watch this video. Thanks as always for inspiring budding, novice and less experienced soapers.
I am from India and I have supper sensitive dry skin, I came across your thick soothing oatmeal cream and it's working well for my skin. Thank you...I enjoy watching your soaping videos.
I like how you added the milk to the oils, so many soapers add to the lye and it risks burning if you do not freeze it, this seems so much more fool proof. Love the lemon idea!
Thank you for sharing about how you got into soap making. We have something in common. I also have been homeschooling for the past 22 years (12 more years to go!) My first soap making escapade was when the first kids were still kids, and soap making was recommended as a fun enrichment to go along with learning about the pilgrims. I used a book from the library to make Castile soap with just olive oil, distilled water and lye. It was SO fun! I made a few more batches that way, but ultimately, buying groceries took precedence over my hobbies. 😂 Anyway, I’ve really been enjoying your videos, and I went ahead and dove into my lard and lye soap yesterday. I just cut it into bars about an hour ago. Let’s just say, they’re not exactly “Ellen Ruth” quality 😂 But they are most assuredly SOAP! Thank you again for the fun and encouraging videos! I can’t wait to try again and my BIG goal is to make a batch that looks as good as yours do, and smells as good as I imagine they do.
Thank you for sharing I look forward to your videos. The soap is beautiful. I have learned a lot from you. This month is school appreciation I’m a transportation supervisor and I made my drivers soap from your goat milk soap recipe from the 4 test soaps videos. I put them in school bus molds. They turned out super cute
I love this soap! I have only been making soap for 3 years but I love it too. I just started Homeschooling my 6th grader this past February. We love it. I'm getting my daughter involved. She's doing the melt and pour. We love watching your channel. 😊 Have a great day!
Wow, this was so interesting. I’d love to make some soap. Maybe I’ll give it a try one day soon. I’m retired now and am always looking for a new project. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely loving tha light yellow. Light but not neon. Going to have to gdt me some. Beautiful! I am a dedicated lemon lover, too. Citrus scents are the best! Cheers 👍💕
Good morning. I am so glad you made a lemon drop bar. I am so excited. I did not even finish watching the video and got on your site to make sure you still had some left. I ordered three bars because I love lemon. It actually is a great bar to put in my kitchen. Thank you so much and have a wonderful day. 💕
WOW! I have homeschooled all 5 of mine as well❤️🩹 ! I have a grand daughter with me and ive actually enrolled her in school this year & im still skeptical...i don't like the school system and the dangers today so i actually may keep her home, who knows 😊 love lemony and orange 🍊 scents the best & this is a pretty sight!!
I started making goat milk soap because my niece bought Nubian dairy goats, and wanted to make goat milk soap, but was too busy. So I volunteered and I am hooked. I so appreciate all your ideas, and you have become my greatest inspiration and tutor. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I wouldn’t be able to have the beautiful results that I do without your help. ❤
Wow Ellen, that yellow surprised me going from dark to light ! The soap turned out beautiful!!!! Thanks for sharing. I did miss you talking to us throughout the video 😢 Love from Georgia
Oh my gosh! The morph was so intense! I thought I had missed you adding orange to the color scheme? Ha! How funny! I'm glad it changed to a yellow! Soap making has so many exciting & weird events. I had a soap almost seize up & I thought I ruined it? It turned out to be my daughter's favorite soaps! Go figure?
Hey Ellen, I’m Cina I am a new soap maker who has loved watching and learning your videos and I just wanted to ask of how do we discount the water/lye if we use milk (liquid) or aloe gel or juice in the soap recipe? And would we discount as well if we used powered milks instead of the liquid form?
I don't discount for powdered milks, I just add them to the oils with the other additives.. When doing milk in oil, I'm taking a portion of the liquid volume to add in milk form.
Question: do you always use fragrance oils? I only use 100% essential oils as I don’t want any chemicals in my soaps I’ve started to make. Any suggestions on using essential oils only? You are an amazing person as your videos are always interesting and informative.❤️
I used a lot of essential oils in my soaps. You need to be checking the usage rate. Anise for example has a very low usage rate, less than 1% others( cinnamon and geranium will accelerate your butter pretty bad

Good idea for the science unit. I want to buy soap making stuff and now I can use my homeschool funds. 😂

I was always afraid to use this and make a pretty soap because I didn't know what the discoloration would be. Did it turn any darker than butterscotch
It did darken quite a bit, but it still smells amazing🍋

Do you still put a blanket over the soap even though you cover it with the lid?
Yes, most of the time I do cover with a blanket too..
Ellen, what do you do with all the leftover bits from making your bevels?
I either Rebatch or make confetti soap❣️
Thank you!
Why it's not seizing and how so thin batter?
Some fragrances are very slow moving and slow trace down.
Hi Ellen where do you get the best deal on bulk sodium hydroxide?
I buy in bulk to get the best price, here's the one I get: amzn.to/3xjBbsn
